homemade hairmasks

We all dream of long, luscious, and healthy hair, all year around. However, in the heat of the summer, it’s impossible to keep your hair oily, and unwashed for more than a couple of days. Summer makes your hair dry, frizzy, and brittle. On top of that, effective store-bought products are becoming unaffordable, which is why here are the top 5 homemade hair masks you need to try this summer:

1. Coconut + Honey

Perfect for moisturization, and only requires two ingredients. Melt the coconut oil if it’s solid. Mix the coconut oil and honey together until well combined. Apply the mixture to your hair, concentrating on the mid-lengths to ends. Leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing and shampooing.

2. Yogurt + Egg Homemade

Simply beat the eggs and mix it with the yogurt until smooth. Now beware, this won’t smell pleasant. Apply the mask all over your hair. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes, rinse thoroughly with cool water and shampoo. The protein in this hair mask gives your hair the strength it needs to survive all the up-dos this summer.

3. Aloe + Lemon

Mix either natural or store-bought aloe vera gel and lemon juice. Apply the mixture directly to your scalp. But carefully, as it might sting. Then, massage gently. Leave it on for 20-30 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water and shampoo. The aloe in this soothes your scalp and lemon controls oil.

4. Oatmeal + Milk

This one is only for those with an itchy scalp. Blend your rolled oats into a fine powder, and mix it with milk till you get your preferred consistency. Leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing and shampooing. The oatmeal in this mask has anti-inflammatory properties that soothe an itchy scalp. While milk nourishes and hydrates both the scalp and hair.

Effective hair care does not require thousands of chemicals. Nor does it need to be so expensive. The homemade masks, and constant oiling, are what nourished the hair of our ancestors, and if you’re Pakistani then you’ve definitely heard a story or two about an aunt who had the longest hair ever.
