Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has initiated the ‘Chief Minister Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme,’ providing free solar panel installations to electricity consumers consuming up to 200 units monthly. The move is intended to lower electricity bills and encourage the use of renewable energy.
How to Apply Online
- Go to the Registration Portal
- Open your web browser and access cmsolarscheme.punjab.gov.pk.
- Click on the Register button.
- Fill Out the Registration Form:
- Provide your Full Name, Email, Mobile Number, CNIC and Bill Reference Number.
- Set a safe password and repeat it.
- Submit the CAPTCHA verification and hit Register.
- Verify Your Email
- Look for an email verification in your inbox
- Click on the Verify Email Address link.
- Sign In and Submit Your Application
- Log in using your registered email and password
- Provide your Bill Reference Number and hit Check.
- Review your information, agree to the terms and press Submit.
- Track Your Application
- You can see the status of your application from the portal.

How to Apply via SMS
Open your message application and send an SMS on 8800 in the below format:
- ReferenceNo. [SPACE] CNIC
- Example: 1234567890 1234567890123
- Wait for a confirmation SMS about your application status.
Eligibility Criteria
The scheme is for consumers who use up to 200 units of electricity every month. Verification will be done on the basis of your electricity bill reference number and CNIC. Installation of solar panels will only be done after physical verification. Every solar system will be associated with the applicant’s CNIC to avoid misuse. 94,000 households will be provided with solar panels in the first phase, with installations starting in late March and ending by July.

Punjab’s Solar Energy Transition
As part of the effort, Punjab government intends to equip all 43 jails across the province with solar power, hopefully cutting the costs of electricity by up to 60%. According to the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) estimate, the jail electricity expenditure of Punjab was Rs4.5 billion on a yearly basis.
This programme is an important move toward alternative energy in Punjab, saving household and public sectors money.
