With all the buzz around whether India will visit Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025, India have secured the rights to host the Asia Cup that same year.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has previously warned that if India refuses to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025, the Green Shirts will not travel to India for upcoming events.

Although the PCB issued similar warnings before the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, they ultimately did travel to India for the mega-event. Only time will tell how this situation unfolds.

Asia Cup Format and Hosting

The Asia Cup is held every two years, rotating between One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) formats, based on the format of upcoming world events.

The 2025 edition will be played in the T20 format, aligning with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

The 2027 edition of the Men’s Asia Cup will switch to the ODI format and will be hosted by Bangladesh. This aligns with the ODI World Cup, which is scheduled for the same year and will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Participating Teams

Both editions of the Asia Cup will feature six teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and a sixth team determined through a qualifying event.

For those who might not know, India is the most successful team in Asia Cup history, having won the title eight times. Meanwhile, Pakistan has managed to secure the title only twice.

As the cricketing world watches, the tension between India and Pakistan over tournament participation adds an intriguing layer to the upcoming events.

With India set to host the Asia Cup in 2025 and the ongoing debate over Champions Trophy participation, fans can expect plenty of drama both on and off the field.
