He went on to say that even India’s second-string side would be very difficult for Pakistan to beat in their current form. He also questioned Pakistan’s ability to produce top batters, specifically mentioning Inzamam-ul-Haq as an example.
For a country that has seen generations of world-class cricketing talent, these comments hit hard. Gavaskar didn’t stop there, implying that despite having talented players, Pakistan hasn’t built a strong backup, which has led to their inconsistency on the field.

As expected, the words didn’t sit well with Inzamam-ul-Haq, who recently responded during a TV show. He didn’t hold back and fired back at Gavaskar’s statements.
“India has performed well, but Gavaskar should also review the stats,” said Inzamam, reminding everyone of the history between the two nations.
He took a subtle jab at India, recalling the time when the Indian team pulled out of playing Pakistan in Sharjah—a period that left fans and pundits scratching their heads.
Inzamam also made it clear that while Gavaskar is a revered figure in cricket, some lines shouldn’t be crossed. “You have the right to praise your team, but it’s not right to say about another team like this,” he added, pointing out the importance of respect in the game.
Respect and Dignity in Cricket
What stood out the most in Inzamam’s response was his call for Gavaskar to maintain dignity when speaking about other nations. While he respects Gavaskar as a cricketing great, Inzamam urged him to be more mindful of his words when discussing another country.
“Gavaskar is a big and respectful cricketer, but I urge him not to undermine his own dignity with such statements,” said Inzamam, making it clear that a more thoughtful approach to commentary is necessary.
