Former Pakistan fast bowler, Mohammad Amir announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020. He cited the perceived injustice from then-head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis as the reason for his decision.
The fans have since then asked him to reverse his decision and make a comeback as he is only 31 years old at the moment.
Mohammad Amir is currently representing Desert Vipers in the ongoing ILT20 league and has shared insights into the possibility of a comeback to the national team.
“At the moment, I have moved on. I have different things in my life to do,” Amir stated firmly while speaking at the Vipers’ team hotel this week.
Having been away from international cricket for three years, Amir acknowledged the complexities associated with making a comeback in the ever-evolving cricket landscape.
“Three years is a long period out of the international system. If you look at the Pakistan system right now, it is changing every single month, so you never know what is coming,” he observed.
The former pacer remained pragmatic about his stance, suggesting that the debate about his return is currently closed.
Amir highlighted the impracticality of making a comeback after such an extended period away from international cricket. He emphasized that the volatile nature of the cricketing landscape adds uncertainty to the equation.
“For me, this debate is closed. After three years out, I don’t think it would be a sensible decision for me to come back. For now, at least. I don’t know what will happen in the next few years,” he concluded, leaving room for speculation about the future.
