Former Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Ishrat Hussain, has urged German companies operating in Pakistan to actively contribute to the nation’s development by offering technical training and apprenticeship programs to Pakistani students. This call to action was made during a Business Networking Series event, organized under the German Consulate in Pakistan and the German Industry and Commerce (AHK) Pakistan Desk.
Building Bridges at the OICCI
The event, held at the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI), saw participation from AHK members, stakeholders, and representatives of German enterprises. This initiative aims to bridge the skills gap in Pakistan by leveraging the expertise of German firms known for their strong business ethics and commitment to quality.
During his address, Ishrat Hussain highlighted the exemplary standards maintained by German businesses, stating, “German companies are renowned for their adherence to high ethical standards, ensuring that their products and services consistently meet quality expectations.” He emphasized that such principles could significantly benefit Pakistani industries by fostering a culture of excellence and reliability.
Strengthening Bilateral Trade
The German Consul General, Dr. Roediger, also spoke at the event, underscoring the potential for increased trade between Pakistan and Germany. He noted, “Germany requires over 400,000 skilled professionals annually across various sectors. By enhancing trade relations and providing vocational training, we can create a mutually beneficial partnership.” Dr. Roediger’s remarks reflect a vision where both nations can achieve economic growth through strategic collaboration.
Oliver Oehms, CEO of German Industry and Commerce (AHK), elaborated on ongoing efforts to equip individuals with new skills that align with evolving industrial demands and the pressing challenges of climate change. He mentioned, “Our collaborative projects with the Pakistani government aim to impart cutting-edge skills that will enable the workforce to adapt to the fast-changing industrial landscape.”
Investing in the Future Workforce
The call for German firms to provide training and apprenticeships in Pakistan is not merely a gesture of goodwill but a strategic investment in the future workforce. By equipping Pakistani students with technical expertise and practical experience, these programs can enhance their employability and contribute to the country’s economic development. Moreover, such initiatives align with Germany’s need for a skilled workforce, creating a symbiotic relationship between the two nations.
The active participation of German companies in training Pakistani students represents a forward-thinking approach to international cooperation.
