JAL Boeing 787 Hits Delta Plane’s Tail While Taxiing

A Japan Airlines (JAL) Boeing 787 clipped the tail of a parked Delta Air Lines aircraft while taxiing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at 10:17 a.m., according to airport officials. Both Japan Airlines Flight. 68 and Delta Air Lines Flight 1921 had all passengers safely deplaned, with no injuries reported.

Japan Airlines confirmed in a statement that the right wing of its aircraft made contact with the Delta plane’s tail after arriving from Tokyo’s Narita International Airport. The flight carried 172 passengers and 13 crew members. Delta also issued a statement saying that its Boeing 737 was waiting for deicing when it was struck by Japan Airlines’ wingtip.

The Delta aircraft was scheduled to depart for Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, with 142 passengers, who were later transferred to another plane. Authorities stated that airport operations faced minimal disruption since the incident happened on a taxi lane.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the matter. This incident followed a February 1 plane crash in Northeast Philadelphia that involved a child and five others. Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, which operated the flight, said it could not confirm any survivors.
