Japan Airlines Hit by Cyberattack, Causing Delays to its Flights

Japan Airlines (JAL) (9201.T) reported a cyberattack on Thursday, causing delays in several domestic and international flights. According to JAL, the attack started at 7:24 a.m. (2224 GMT) and had an impact on both the company’s internal and external systems. The business said it temporarily turned off a router that was creating system difficulties and paused ticket sales for flights departing on Thursday.

A representative for ANA Holdings (9202.T), Japan’s other major airline, said the company observed no signs of an assault on its systems. Earlier this week, American Airlines (AAL.O) temporarily stopped its flights for an hour, affecting travel for hundreds on Christmas Eve, due to a technical issue with its network gear.
