John Lithgow will play Albus Dumbledore in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series. The 79-year-old actor confirmed the news, taking over the role previously played by Michael Gambon and Richard Harris.
In an interview, Lithgow admitted the decision was tough due to the long-term commitment. “It’s going to define me for the last chapter of my life,” he said. “But I’m very excited. Some wonderful people are turning their attention back to Harry Potter. I’ll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I’ve said yes.”
