The new Mayor of Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has talked about his determination and ambition to turn Karachi into a pristine “clean and green” city by enforcing strict laws against wall chalking and plastic bags. In a recent meeting at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) head office, departmental heads discussed plans to initiate a streamlined one-window operation for efficient service delivery and other amenities.
This may just be a great initiative because who wants to see ads for black magic and cures for male infertility on walls? And the amount of plastic bags throughout the city is unbelievable causing accidents and the death of street animals.
Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad expressed gratitude to the citizens of Karachi for their trust in the new city leadership. He emphasized the urgent need to stabilize KMC’s financial situation while addressing the challenge of maintaining clean drains during the monsoon season. He assured the public that visible changes will be evident within the next hundred days. How much this is true is not yet confirmed because only time can tell. Karachiites have been promised a lot of things in the past but no execution has been seen.
New Mayorship
Mayor Wahab received a warm welcome upon his arrival at the KMC head office, with officers and employees showering him with rose petals. After the elections on the 15th, and all the chaos and political riots that followed, Murtaza Wahab finally became mayor and has now outlined his priority to enhance the city’s basic infrastructure, including road maintenance and provision of adequate street lighting. Additionally, he has also emphasized the improvement of KMC hospitals to ensure citizens have access to quality medical facilities.
To facilitate the city’s progress, the mayor has also announced plans for various public-private partnership projects aimed at engaging the private sector in the city’s construction and development efforts. These initiatives will contribute to the overall improvement of Karachi’s infrastructure and quality of life for its residents.
Will Karachiites see a difference now? Let us know in the comments below.
