[Update]: The Green line bus service that was supposed to start in 2017 will now be launched by August of this year, 2021. The project had even witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony and would have covered Surjani Town all the way to Municipal Park, M.A.Jinnah Road. But it did not see the light of the day.
However, with the Karachi Transformation Plan picking momentum and Karachi becoming more aware of its rights, old projects have resumed, and new projects have been initiated.
Asad Umar, the Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, said that the prototype of the greenline bus service will be ready quite soon. Following that, the service will be fully operational sometime between July to August.
[February 26, 2016]: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif performed the groundbreaking for the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit System on Friday in Karachi. The Green Line Bus Service is the first-ever Rapid Transit System to be started by the federal government.

The Green Line Bus Rapid Transit System is a significant milestone to decongest and upgrade the overburdened transport infrastructure of Karachi; it will also reduce the travel time and cost for Karachi residents, PM House statement stated on Thursday.
The project will be completed in about a year. The Green Line Rapid Transit System would begin from Surjani Town and end at the Municipal Park M.A. Jinnah Road.
After its culmination, the corridor will be benefitting over 300,000 passengers every day. The approximate corridor cost is Rs. 16, 085 million. The federal government has also provided the overall funding.
Karachi Infrastructure Development Company Limited (KIDCL) has been amalgamated under the Board of directors, including project stakeholders, senior government functionaries, and technical directors to take independent responsibility for the project.
Upon his arrival at the PAF Faisal base, the PM was given a warm welcome by Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ibad and Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah. Chief Secretary, DG Sindh Rangers, the provincial home minister, and IG Sindh Police were also present at the base.
