LUMS is a reputable institution in all of Pakistan. However, for one reason or another, the institute always finds itself in the news for all the wrong things! Now the institution has unnecessarily and irrationally raised the fee without informing the students and the student body is raising its voice. Here’s what’s going on:

About LUMS
LUMS is already the most expensive non-medical institute in all of Pakistan. Its fee price has seen a hike consistently in the past three years. Consider the fact that a normal fee of any undergraduate student for a semester ranges from Rs. 400,000-600,000. This also does not cover the hostel cost yet which stood somewhere around Rs.50,000. These are all the figures before the “price hike” this time around.
The Latest Developments
What many people are raising their voices on is the fact that many have sold their belongings to be able to put their children in LUMS. It was already hard to pay the previous fee provided its amount. How can one be able to afford it after the hike? Apparently, the fee has been increased by 14% while the hostel fee has been increased by 18%.
What Are Students Saying?
Students want to raise their voices about the fact that this is simply greed and to sustain profit margins and exorbitant salaries rather than a matter of inflation. Have a look at the tweets of students:
IBA’s per sem fee: 286,050/-
FC’s per sem fee: 170,000/-
NUST’s per sem fee: 129,000/-
LUMS’ old per sem fee: 410,000/-
Fee after the hike: 480,000/-
Nothing more to say, these numbers are self-explanatory.@LifeAtLUMS @VCofLUMS we won’t accept this.#LUMSFeeHike— Haris Rajput (@harris_rajputt) June 8, 2022
They will come up with the ‘inflation argument’ and claim that the fee is being adjusted to inflation, but this argument is flawed due to multiple reasons.
1) Lums is already the most expensive non-medical institute in the country, how can they increase the already inflated fee?— Haris Rajput (@harris_rajputt) June 8, 2022
Right. This seemingly understandable argument is flawed. It’s not about inflation, it’s about mismanagement, greed, and priorities. The amount of money put in renovation of tennis court and decorative pieces was just absurd while other important issues persisted. #LUMSFeeHike https://t.co/gO0isXgjeG
