The Saudi Red Crescent has successfully tested an emergency Marrkah air ambulance landing on a newly built helipad at the Masjid Al Haram (Grand Mosque) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This helipad is part of the third Saudi expansion of the holy mosque, which was recently completed. It has been designed to enhance emergency medical response and provide immediate medical assistance to millions of pilgrims who visit every year.
The newly constructed helipad is specifically made to support air ambulance operations, ensuring quick patient evacuations and transportation to nearby hospitals. This initiative is especially important during peak pilgrimage periods like Ramadan and Hajj when a large number of visitors can put pressure on medical resources. The dedicated air ambulance service aims to reduce response times and offer urgent care when needed.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the health system provided over 40,000 health services to Umrah pilgrims during the first half of the holy month. The Ministry of Health stated that these efforts align with the Health Sector Transform Program and the Pilgrim Experience Program under Saudi Vision 2030.
Apart from focusing on pilgrims’ health and safety, the Ministry of Health also announced health requirements for the upcoming Hajj. It stated that pilgrims must be free from illnesses that could prevent them from safely performing Hajj. The Ministry recommended that pilgrims with chronic diseases carry documents verifying their health conditions and bring an adequate supply of their medications in their original packaging.
The Ministry further advised that pilgrims should update their vaccinations against essential diseases, including diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio, measles, chickenpox and mumps, in addition to the mandatory vaccines.
