Markets across Karachi will remain shut today as traders observe a strike to show solidarity with the people of Gaza. The strike affects major retail and wholesale hubs, including Saddar, Old City Area, Hyderi, Liaquatabad, Tariq Road and the Sarafa Bazaar, which will remain closed in protest.
Jameel Paracha, a leader of the Karachi Traders Alliance, said, “The business community stands with the people of Gaza.” Wholesale markets also joined the strike. According to the Chairman of the Wholesale Grocers Association, protest camps against Israel are also expected to be set up in parts of the city.

Trader associations across the city called on the public to support the strike and help make it successful. Rizwan Irfan, President of the Electronics Markets, confirmed that all electronics markets would be closed today. He said this was meant as “a symbolic show of unity.”
Muhammad Aslam, General Secretary of the Jodia Bazaar Medicine Market, announced that medicine markets would observe a complete shutdown. Likewise, Malik Zahid, President of the Shershah Scrap Market, confirmed that their market was also taking part in the strike.
The Tariq Road Traders Alliance also announced a protest in support of the people of Gaza. These moves reflect a united effort by Karachi’s business community to protest the situation in Gaza and express their support for the Palestinian people.
Traders from different sectors and areas have taken part, demonstrating unity across various types of businesses. The strike has brought commercial activity to a halt across large parts of Karachi, making the city’s stance on the issue clear through peaceful protest.
