Marvel Studios is riding high at the box office once again. After the phenomenal success of the recent “Avengers: Infinity War” move, the studio’s latest offering, “Ant-Man and The Wasp,” flies into the top spot at the global box office, ahead of a Chinese comedy-drama and “Incredibles 2.”
Marvel’s latest movie tops the global box office for the weekend of July 8 after opening in US theaters. “Ant-Man and The Wasp” — Ant-Man’s second big-screen caper, directed by Peyton Reed — grossed over $161 million on its opening weekend. The movie stars Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Lawrence Fishburne and Michelle Pfeiffer.
Released July 5 in China, the comedy-drama, “Dying to Survive,” lands directly in second place on the box-office podium. Grossing $146 million over the weekend, the movie makes a surprise entry ahead of “Incredibles 2.” Pixar’s animated adventure may have dropped from second to third place, but “Incredibles 2” has still grossed over $772.8 million worldwide since opening June 15 in the USA.
Last weekend’s number one, “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” falls to fourth place this week. Adding over $56.1 million to its total grosses, the latest movie in the “Jurassic Park” franchise now tops $1 billion worldwide.
