
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has inaugurated the provinceโs first electric bus project, describing it as a major step towards a modern and eco-friendly transport system. She said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had always prioritised development.โ This is Punjab on the path of innovation,โ she remarked, adding that the dream of a green and clean province was now becoming a reality.
The newly launched electric bus service in Lahore will have a starting fare of Rs20, with the maximum fare set at Rs35. The government has also announced free travel for students, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
Maryam Nawaz said that 27 electric buses would begin operations in Lahore from Tuesday, while 500 more buses were expected to arrive in Punjab by August. She further revealed that the provincial government was manufacturing electric buses in Faisalabad and had also invited Chinese companies to invest in the sector.
The chief minister stated that the initiative was aimed at reducing pollution and providing affordable public transport, adding that the fare structure in Punjab was lower compared to other provinces. โAll buses are equipped with free Wi-Fi, mobile charging facilities and CCTV cameras to enhance security, particularly for women,โย sheย noted.
