Meta Introduces New Features

Meta Platforms recently introduced new features for Messenger which aim to improve user experience during audio and video calls. Powered by artificial intelligence (AI), users can take advantage of personalised backgrounds during Messenger video calls.

HD Video Calls for Better Quality

One of the more notable additions is the availability of HD video calls, which allow users to experience higher-quality video throughout their calls. This function is intended to enhance the clarity of video calls by making them more vibrant and detailed. When a user connects to Wi-Fi, the HD video call option is automatically enabled. Users can still turn it on and off when using cellular data, thereby providing them more options depending on their network connection.

Improved Voice Clarity with Voice Isolation and Noise Suppression

Meta has also added quite a few audio updates to improve call clarity, particularly in noisy environments. The new voice isolation and background noise suppression technologies allow users to have clearer conversations and with fewer interruptions. The voice isolation feature prioritises the speaker’s speech over ambient sounds, while background noise suppression reduces environmental noise. Furthermore, both features can be enabled through the app’s call settings, providing users with a more focused and professional calling experience.

AI-Powered Backgrounds for Messenger Video Calls

A particularly intriguing feature added in this update is AI-powered backgrounds. This feature, powered by Meta’s artificial intelligence allows users to customise their video call backgrounds by merely entering a description. Users may access this function by touching on the effects icon during a video call and selecting “Backgrounds” option, which allows them to customize their call environment.

Voicemail-Like Features for Unanswered Calls

In addition to audio and video enhancements, Messenger now has voicemail-like features as well. If a call is not answered, users can now leave an audio or video message for the recipient. When a call is missed, the new “Record message” option appears, therefore making it easier to continue communicating even when live calls are missed.

By continuing to integrate AI-driven features, Meta is enhancing its platform’s capabilities and offering users more customization and flexibility in their interactions.
