Meta has opened a pop-up store in Los Angeles called “Meta Lab” to showcase its Ray-Ban smart glasses in time for the holiday season. The pop-up, open now until December 31st, offers a unique retail experience centred around Meta’s vision for immersive, next-generation technology. This isn’t just about selling smart glasses; it’s Meta’s broader strategy to redefine the shopping experience and to familiarise people with augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) products, laying the groundwork for the eventual launch of AR-enabled glasses in 2027.
An Experiential Approach to Retail
Meta Lab doesn’t follow the traditional retail format. Instead, it offers an “experiential” approach, where visitors can try on the Ray-Ban smart glasses, experience VR elements, and participate in hands-on customisation. In this way, Meta aims to provide more than a showcase—it’s a glimpse into the future of technology-enabled lifestyles. According to Meta, the primary goal is to learn what resonates with consumers, helping the company optimise its retail and sales strategies.
Community-Driven Events and Entertainment
To draw in a diverse audience, Meta Lab hosts a lineup of community events and live entertainment, including stand-up comedy, live podcast recordings, and interactive workshops. Special activities like “paint and sip” nights and cooking classes add a social layer to the shopping experience, appealing to a broader demographic beyond just tech enthusiasts. Encouraged by this success, Meta has already announced plans for a similar pop-up in Phoenix, scheduled to open in January 2025.
