Pakistan is gearing up for Eid Milad Un Nabi which falls this Friday, 1st December 2017. The preparations are in full swing and you can see roads and building lit up with colorful lights and decorations.
However, as every year this 12 Rabi ul Awal may see the shut down of mobile services across Pakistan. Even though it is highly inconvenient for everyone as contacting your loved ones becomes difficult.
Ministry of Interior rolled out a notification to announce the suspension!
The authorities have cited the reason for the network shutdown in previous cases to be precautionary measures to sustain security throughout the day and to avoid terror attacks. Security concerns in major cities lead to the ban on network services on all important religious and political events.
Mobile services are normally suspended across all cities in Pakistan from early morning to night on Chehlum and Muharram, the same schedule may be followed on Milad Un Nabi if the government decides to shut down the services. However, timings have not yet been announced.
The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on Milad un Nabi where all shops, offices and educational institutes will remain closed in the province.
Apart from cellphones remaining without networks all day, the recent ride-hailing companies like Careem and Uber are highly dependent on mobile networks and 3G services. No signals mean no business for the cab services all day.
