Modi Removes Lt Gen Kumar After Refusal to Launch Strike on Pakistan

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi removes Lt Gen Kumar from his post after he allegedly declined to initiate a military operation against Pakistan. Serving as the Northern Commander at the time, Kumar was said to have received orders to respond militarily following a suspected false flag operation. His refusal to act allegedly led to his dismissal.

The Indian government has strongly rejected these allegations. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) dismissed the narrative as misinformation. In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), PIB stated,

“Several pro-Pakistan social media accounts falsely claim that Northern Commander Lt Gen Suchindra Kumar has been removed from his post after the Pahalgam incident.”

Official Reason

According to PIB’s fact-check, Kumar had reached the age of retirement, and his exit had been scheduled for April 30. The military had already planned to appoint a successor. Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma was named as his replacement and was scheduled to assume command on May 1.

Sharma Faces Scrutiny

After the appointment notice was issued, Lt Gen Sharma held a meeting with army personnel. During the session, several officers questioned him about recent security failures, particularly the deadly Pahalgam attack. Sources say Sharma struggled to provide satisfactory responses, which added to concerns within the ranks.

Tensions Mount After Pahalgam Attack

The April 22 attack in Pahalgam claimed the lives of 26 individuals, most of them tourists. It stands as one of the deadliest incidents in the region in recent years. India has hinted at cross-border links but hasn’t produced concrete evidence. Meanwhile, Pakistan has firmly denied involvement and urged for an independent investigation.
