Pakistan cricket never runs out of debates, and the latest one comes from former pacer Mohammad Amir. He isnโt too happy with the appointment of Salman Ali Agha as Pakistanโs new T20I captain. In fact, he believes the job should have gone to Mohammad Haris instead.
Speaking in a recent interview, Mohammad Amir acknowledged Agha Salmanโs contributions in ODIs and Tests but questioned his appointment in the shortest format.
Instead, he pointed towards Haris, highlighting his leadership experience with Pakistan Shaheens and the Champions Cup.

โHaris is captaining everywhere. He led the Pakistan Shaheens, and he also captained in the Champions Cup,โ Amir stated, emphasizing that Haris has already been groomed for leadership.
At just 23 years old, Haris is eight years younger than Agha Salman. His aggressive playing style fits the modern T20 approach, making him a strong long-term option for Pakistanโs leadership.
For Amir, the decision was simple: If Pakistan was looking for a fresh captain, they should have gone with someone already groomed for the role.

While he didnโt get the captaincy, Haris has made his way back into the national side. He has been called up for Pakistanโs upcoming T20I series against New Zealand, set to begin this month.
The series, which runs from March 16 to April 5, will feature five T20Is followed by three ODIs. Haris, who last played a T20I for Pakistan in 2023, will be eager to make an impact.
With just nine T20Is under his belt, he has scored 126 runs at a strike rate of 127.27. Now, with a fresh opportunity ahead, heโll be looking to prove why Mohammad Amirโand many othersโsee him as a future leader.
