Mohammad Amir has been on an incredible journey, participating in three different T20 competitions in just under a week. This remarkable feat has set a new benchmark for cricketers around the world.
From Derbyshire to The Hundred
Amir’s busy schedule started with five games for the Derbyshire Falcons in the T20 Blast, right after his stint with Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024.
His stay in the United Kingdom (UK) was unexpectedly extended when he was called up by the Oval Invincibles for their opening match in The Hundred 2024 against Birmingham Phoenix.
Spencer Johnson was set to join the Invincibles, but his arrival was delayed due to commitments with MLC. This opened the door for Amir to step in for a single game. He seized the opportunity, bowling 10 dot balls in his 15-ball spell and taking 2-7, contributing to a strong start for the defending champions.
Jetting Off to Canada for GT20
Right after his one-match deal in The Hundred, Amir flew to Canada for the Global T20 Canada 2024, joining the Vancouver Knights. Just two days after his stellar performance in London, he debuted in this year’s tournament.
Unfortunately, he was dismissed for a duck when the Knights batted first. However, he bowled two overs, giving away only seven runs, as the Toronto Nationals chased their target with more than five overs to spare.
In his second outing for the Knights, Amir picked up a wicket while conceding 24 runs in four overs against the Bangla Tigers Mississauga.
PCB’s Stance on NOCs
Interestingly, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has denied No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to other Pakistani international players, including Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam, preventing them from participating in the GT20.
Despite this, Mohammad Amir has shown tremendous fitness and work ethic, travelling across continents and delivering performances for different teams in a very short span.
