Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to fulfil his promises regarding various development projects for Karachi. He also asked the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) to clarify its position on local government powers.
Speaking at the inauguration of development work near Macchi Miani Market, Murtaza Wahab stressed the need to improve Karachiโs Old City area. He called it the foundation of the metropolis and promised to address its problems. Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, PPP leader Javed Nagori, and other officials also attended the event.
Wahab said that they have now fixed the biggest issue in the city, which was sewerage. He urged Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori to go beyond attending Sehri and Iftar gatherings and visit different parts of the city.

Mayor stated that he has received a letter from Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori, and will reply soon. He also reminded the governor that he has a role as a federal representative. “Being a representative of the federation, I hope that he will fulfil the promise of getting Rs100 billion from the federation for the city’s development,” he said. Wahab stressed that federal support is necessary to improve the cityโs infrastructure.
Criticising MQM-Pโs stance, Murtaza Wahab noted that they once supported decentralisation but now prefer the Pakistan Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (PIDCL) to handle projects instead of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). He urged the party to explain the reason for this change.
Murtaza Wahab officially concluded his speech with a statement that Karachiโs development must be a priority and that Pakistanโs national interests should never be compromised.
