The authorities in India-occupied Jammu and Kashmir were investigating a mysterious disease that has caused the deaths of 17 people, local media reports said on Saturday.The deaths, including those of 13 children, occurred in the remote village of Badhaal, Rajouri, in the Jammu area since early December. The village was declared a containment zone earlier this week, with approximately 230 people quarantinedthe Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency reported.
Amarjeet Singh Bhatia, who heads Rajouriโs government medical college, stated that all casualties had damage to the brain and nervous system. โThe winter vacations have also been cancelled to address the medical alert situation,โ PTI quoted Bhatia.
>According to the latest news, the federal government has launched an investigation, with Health Minister Jitendra Singh saying that an initial probe suggests the deaths were โnot due to any infection, virus, or bacteria, but rather a toxin.โ

โThere is a long series of toxins being tested. I believe a solution will be found soon. Additionally, if there was any mischief or malicious activity, that is also being investigated,โ PTI quoted Singh.
>In another medical incident, the authorities in the western city of Pune recorded at least 73 cases of a rare nerve disease. Those infected with Guillain-Barrรฉ Syndrome (GBS) include 26 women.
14 of the patients are on ventilator support, PTI quoted an official. As per the World Health Organisation, in GBS, a personโs immune system attacks the peripheral nerves. The syndrome can affect nerves that control muscle movement, potentially leading to muscle weakness, loss of sensation in the legs or arms, and difficulty swallowing and breathing.
