NAB Seals Malik Riaz's Bahria Town Properties, Accounts

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has sealed several commercial and residential properties owned by Bahria Townโ€™s Malik Riaz due to corruption cases. It has also frozen hundreds of Bahria Townโ€™s bank accounts and vehicles.

On January 21, NAB warned the public against investing in Bahria Townโ€™s Dubai project and announced plans to arrest Riaz. In February, it filed corruption cases against him, former Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Minister Sharjeel Memon and others for illegal land transfers. Additional cases involve land occupation in Rawalpindiโ€™s Rakh Takht Pari and New Murree.

NAB stated that Riaz and his associates illegally occupied government and private land under Bahria Townโ€™s name. They further urged the public to avoid investing in any of his projects.

Currently residing in Dubai, Riaz faces money laundering accusations. NAB claims that some individuals in Pakistan are helping him transfer money for his luxury apartment project there. They warned that any funds that are sent for this project would count as money laundering and lead to legal action.

In a separate case, a Rawalpindi accountability court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Malik Riaz and Ali Ahmed Malik for skipping the hearing of the Takht Pari land case. The court ordered their arrest and set the next hearing for April 16. Former Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi was also absent but received a one-day exemption due to medical reasons. Of the 17 accused, 10 attended the hearing, while lawyers represented four others.

NAB vowed to continue legal action without delays and is working with other agencies to bring Malik Riaz back to Pakistan.
