AUG 21st, 2012 – Yahoo has not only made it back as a headline but it also made it all the way to the top of the list of ComScore’s Top 50 Web Properties, according to AdweekThe list included Google, Microsoft websites, AOL and even Facebook.

The last time Yahoo made to the top of this list was five years ago in March 2008, when facebook was on fifteenth position. Ever since, Google has been invincible, until last month.

Most number of unique visits commonly termed as ‘web property’, is the count of visitors trafficking a particular website. Yahoo surpassed Google with approximately an astounding count of 5 million visits.

It is worth noticing that this count did not include Tumblr’s traffic, a site which is on 28th position on its own. Noticeably Facebook’s unique visitors have fallen from 161 million (as per July 2012) to 142 million; validating the notion that Facebook is losing its edge of being cool with the teenagers.

Yahoo has been a pick for the news lately for more than one reason. Last year it was Marissa Mayer, the new CEO, then the corporate effort to reposition and refresh the timeworn Yahoo persona.

Merissa Mayer, who recently celebrated her first year as Yahoo’s CEO, seems determined in her charge to regain Yahoo’s lost glory.

When Mayer joined Yahoo, the brand was at third position behind Google and Microsoft. The current ratings from ComScore, based on all of United States internet visits, are a strong proof of her efforts in the last year.

The research from ComScore, nevertheless has a twist; it excludes all the significant and ever-growing mobile statistics. This implies that Google has every chance to regain its position once ComScore research on all platforms.
