Arsenic Found in Pakistan’s Water Supply: WHO Report

Arsenic has been discovered in Pakistan’s water supply. Mixed with water and being consumed by humans, it has dangerous effects on the human body.

Especially when Arsenic of such high concentration is present in drinking water!

Public Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) published a study which showed that only 72% of water schemes in Pakistan are functional. Out of those functional water schemes around 84% of the supplied water is unfit for consumption.

The team of experts collected 1200 samples (3-70-meter-deep wells) from all over Pakistan and it revealed shocking results.

Contaminated water is found in almost all parts of the country. Around 60 million people use five times higher arsenic water (50 micrograms per liter) than the ones in WHO territory.

Around 200 micrograms of arsenic content were found along river Indus. However, as per WHO, the recommended limit for Arsenic is 10 micrograms per liters of water.

A public health engineer at WHO, Richard Johnston, says, “It’s a reminder that arsenic remains a serious public health threat in drinking water”.

Charles Harvey, a hydrogeologist at MIT says, “People should be aware that water in their well has a high amount of arsenic”.

A recent study carried out by students of (NUST) National University of Sciences and Technology showed overall Water Quality Index of Faisalabad district.

The map showed that most of Faisalabad is suffering from very poor quality of water, which is bad for the health of its citizens.

Let’s hope Pakistan gets out of this situation as soon as possible and live a healthy and better life.

Smelly Pakola Cases Reported by Pakistanis!

Pakola, the green colored fizzy drink can easily be called the national drink of Pakistan. It is hardly possible to find anyone who is not a fan of the sweet ice cream soda.

However, recently there have been reports of the cold drink being different in taste and smell. People have also taken to Facebook and Twitter to share their concerns. It looks like the quality has suffered a great deal, the pungent smell of the Pakola bottles have led consumers to lodge complaints.

A post on Facebook by Kinza Inam explained how she had bought two bottles of Pakola which smelled horribly wrong. She then had to throw both bottles down the train as they were not fit for consumption.

Looks like she was not the only one that had received the weird smelling drink!

The drink is available at all leading supermarkets. It has also been discovered that Pakola cans are of top quality while the plastic bottles seem to be the problem.

It is also possible that a counterfeit product is being manufactured and sold in the market in order to defame the brand. The company has not released any official statement regarding the ongoing crisis.

Some believed quick action needs to be taken!

Hareem Farooq Just Shut DownTrolls & We’re Like, You Go Girl!

Did you know Pakistanis have the biggest noses in the world? They always manage to find their way poking in someone else’s business. Where it clearly does not belong. The latest episode of nosy Pakistanis features a “scandalous” Instagram post by Hareem Farooq.

The picture under discussion is one where Hareem is chummily standing next to her super close friend, Osman Khalid Butt, enjoying the 14th August, Azaadi feels.

And instantly, Instagram patrol united to remind her of her ‘aakhirat’. More than half the comments on the post were downright horrendous and beyond rude.

“Hahaha but why mention others like katrina kareena are you jealous kay loag un ko dekhtay hain ap ko nahi? Attention mil gai hai apko behen ayashii karain aj kal boht trend hai insta py apnay hak aur azadi ki baat kar kay attention lainay ka 😂 apko mubarak ho”

“Lann tan krna to buhat ghalat ha But Ap bhi jo kr rahi ha Woh bhi theak nahi ha”

“Begharat ho jo defend kr rahi ho jo marzi kro tm log but atleast public na kro”

“Kal tum apni naked photo upload karna to phir hum tmhain hell ka certificate dain gy, kanjar aurat, aik to ghalat kaam upar sy us ko defend karna. Wtf you bloody celebrities “

Then there were people who came to Hareem’s defense and exposed the double standards that our society is plagued with.

“I don’t understand why everyone is going after Hareem when Osman is doing the same pose as her lol. Double standards?”

“It is her right. Tumhen kyun aag lagi pari hay?”

“But idk what is wrong with this pic that people criticing or blaming it’s just pose pic nothing more but check the mentality of bullshit people who saying bla bla and abusing”

Hareem, without singling anyone out, replied back:

Yo go girl!

It is about time we tell these haters to stop moral policing once and for all!

Sarahah App has Pakistanis Going Crazy After it

The latest trend that seems to have taken the online world by storm is an app called ‘Saharah’ and the Internet is both, confused and amused.

‘Sarahah’ literally means honesty in Arabic, and there is no one in the world itching, to be honest… scratch that, anonymously honest, more than Pakistanis. Which is why it’s understandable that an app like Sarahah caught attention in Pakistan.

It allows you to be ruthlessly honest, or creepy while protecting your identity. Although it was launched for the purpose of constructive criticism, which is a fact, people are conveniently ignoring.

Anyway, more and more Pakistanis are creating accounts and succumbing to curiosity or to the hope that someone will confess their undying love for them, we’ll never know.
Some people obviously took it up as their moral duty to be creepy AF.

Creep case 1

Creep case 2

Creep case 3

While the concept behind Saharah is not new in the digital age, apps like Whisper and AskFM have existed for some time now

Let’s see if it sticks around for a longer time.

This Laziza Kheer Mix TVC is a Total Copy of an Indian Ad!

Ever heard the phrase imitation is the best form of flattery? Seems like there are some Pakistani brands that are too impressed with advertising campaigns and commercials from across the border.

There has recently been a buzz about a TVC by popular Laziza Foods on their Laziza Kheer Mix that has been discovered to be totally inspired by a commercial for an Indian cooking oil brand, Lotus Oil, that was released back in 2012.

The two ads are extremely similar and it is definitely a ‘copy’ and ‘paste’ job. The characters, storyboard, dialogues and everything else are exactly the same. What is more, the characters in both commercials have acted in the same manner as well. One could actually say that this ad was a work of plagiarism.

The Opening shot of Both Ads.

Above – Laziza, Below – Lotus Oil (India)

Laziza foods are one of those companies that do not advertise heavily as this ad came up after the longest time from the brand. It is sad to see the brand going ahead with such a level of plagiarism.

Can you spot the difference?

Notice the jewelry and color of clothes to be the exact same too!

The compilation of both ads by a page on Facebook has gone viral on the internet! Watch  the video below:

Here’s what marketing enthusiasts on the facebook group Khalid Alvi Marketing Next have to say about it:

However, this comment has won the internet for the day! We really think the agency deserves an award for such pulling off such detailed plagiarism.

Looks like we weren’t the only ones who noticed every shot was the same!

Indian Supreme Court Bans Triple ‘Talaq’!

The Indian Supreme Court on Tuesday has announced a ban on the controversial Muslim quick divorce practice of the Triple Talaq, calling it ‘unconstitutional’.

The decision was taken after Muslim women in the country had protested against the age-old law that they believed violated the right to their equality.

The Triple Talaq law allows Muslim men to divorce their wives after simply saying the word ‘talaq’ three times. There are often times when this has caused distress and created havoc. A heated argument or extreme frustration between a couple during a fight could also lead to the unthinkable happening over the uttering of the three words.

There were shocking reports of women left divorced through Skype and WhatsApp.

The Chief Justice of India announced that he would like to suspend the practice completely and ask the government to come up with a new law within six months. However, the other three judges overruled his decision by calling it unconstitutional.

One of the Judges further added:

“What is sinful under religion cannot be valid under law”

Shayara Bano who brought the case forward to court expressed her happiness on the ruling:

“Finally I feel free today. I have the order that will liberate many Muslim women.”

The Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi, also welcomed the verdict:

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne tropical disease transmitted by mosquitoes. According to the statistics by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, India has recorded over 33, 964 cases of dengue in 2017 so far.

The disease returns to affect an estimated 390 million dengue infections worldwide each year, with about 96 million resulting in illness. If you feel you’re showing any signs of dengue, you should visit a doctor right away.

Symptoms

High Fever

Usually, children experience the common cold, vomiting or diarrhea.

Exhaustion

Patients tend to gain extreme headaches, slight joint and muscle pain, as well as pain behind the eyes.

Other Signs

These may include bleeding in the gums or nose, along with a skin rash which may show up to 5 days after the start of the fever.

Preventions

Use Mosquito Repellents

The dengue mosquito prefers to stay inside as that helps it stay away from climate changes.

Full Coverage

When outdoors, try to wear long pants and full sleeved shirts.

Prevent Water Stagnation

Immediately dispose of places where mosquitos can breed, for example, flower pots that collect rain.

Is there no end?

Most dengue diseases have been known to be diagnosed from tropical areas, such as the Indian subcontinent, Taiwan and the Caribbean.

The disease has no specific treatment or vaccine whatsoever. However, there are ongoing efforts to produce drugs that may be used to treat the fever in the future.

Bollywood Movie Partition: 1947 NOT “Banned” in Pakistan?

Other than politics and border tensions, India and Pakistan often clash on arts and entertainment. Well, we all know that they never seem to agree on the same things and movies are yet another area where the nations always face a conflict.

Consequently, many of the Bollywood flicks get banned in our nation due to either objectionable content or controversial topics.

Recently, an upcoming Indian movie ‘Partition: 1947’ is being claimed as banned in Pakistan by various Indian publications.

The movie features Huma Qureshi and as the title suggests, the story is set during Partition. It is is an onscreen adaptation of the life of the last Viceroy of India under British rule – Lord Mountbatten.

Apparently, the movie’s director took to Twitter and declared it banned in Pakistan!

His tweet sparked an instant reaction on social media and #BannedInPakistan started trending on Twitter!

Meanwhile, in Pakistan, it turns out that the movie has not been even imported yet to be declared banned by the censor board!

The member of the Sindh Film censor board, Saeed Rizvi clarified to Brandsynario:

“The movie has not been imported in Pakistan and hence can not be labelled as Banned. However, it is highly unlikely that the movie will be imported in the nation due to its controversial story line”

What is more, he added that the movie will surely make it to cable television later, even if it is not screened in cinemas.

“It was the same with Bajrangi Bhaijaan. We edited many scenes but they made it to cable later”

Moreover,  Sindh Film Censor Board secretary Abdul Razzaq Khuhawar told the Express Tribune that the movie has been banned as it misrepresents the image of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

But one thing is clear that movie certainly can not be certified as a banned product as it has not been imported in the first place.

TDF Launched TDF Ghar to Rejuvenate the Old Karachi’s True Spirit The Dawood Foundation Hosted an Open House at TDF Ghar

With an aim to promote informal learning spaces in Karachi, The Dawood Foundation (TDF) recently opened its gates to a restored 1930’s home that is now converted into a public space.

Now called TDF Ghar, it will connect the visitors with the rich and vibrant history of Karachi while giving them a place to talk and discuss ideas.

The Dawood Foundation hosted a meet & greet open house for the media personnel today. TDF Ghar will be opened for general public on August 22, 2017, onwards.

TDF Ghar is located in Jamshed Quarters area, which is the first dedicated cooperative residential complex for the middle class in Karachi. The area was developed by Jamshed Nusserwanjee in 1922 and was a home to multiple ethnicities including Muslims, Hindus, Christians, Parsis, and Jews.

TDF Ghar retains its heritage architectural features but has been rejuvenated into a public space, to relive the true spirit of residents of this old cosmopolitan city. This space can be openly used and accessed by the public.

While expressing the vision behind TDF Ghar, Sabrina Dawood, CEO the Dawood Foundation said;

“TDF Ghar represents the ideology of peace, harmony, and equality in rights for everyone. The ideology that was followed by the founders of modern Karachi. TDF Ghar, welcomes everyone to share their culture with others, talk about education, arts, science and preserve history in the best way. This place was previously underutilized, impractical and empty, watching it transform into a public space is the biggest source of pride for me. It is truly a testament to the transformative power of art and legacy in our society.”

The main attraction of TDF Ghar is ‘The Living Room’ museum which comprises antique artifacts and collectibles from as early as the 1930s. Restored with vintage fixtures The Living Room has plenty to captivate on its own terms.

As the name itself depicts that it is a home where the infrastructure, furniture, decoration and the overall ambiance would take one back to the lifestyle of people living in the old Karachi.

In the center of TDF Ghar lies a simple yet beautiful Sehan Café which reminds its visitors of the most famous Irani Café culture of Karachi when sitting on bentwood old Irani chairs and sipping Chai with bun would have been more relaxing than anything else.

One of many specialties of TDF Ghar is a breath-taking view of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s mausoleum from the roof top where one can sit and relax while enjoying the spectacular view of Mazar-e-Quaid. Moreover, three Numaish Halls and a training room can be utilized for organizing workshops, training, seminars, meetups, exhibitions, and other activities.

Anti Encroachment Operation in Karachi Extends to Dhoraji

The city of Karachi has currently been going through many different development projects, which includes the building as well as the demolishment of bridges and not to forget road expansion.

However, although these projects are a part of Karachi and overall Pakistan’s development, the way thing are being handled has become concerning. At first, it was Tariq Rd and then followed other areas and now Doraji has become the newest, ‘victim’.

Doraji is known to be the home of Karachiites’ favorite ‘Gola Ganda’. However, the stalls occupied by the vendors in Doraji were abolished because they operated on public roads and each vendor had secured illegal portions of the road and sidewalk.

This created issues like traffic jams, portion disputes, and other relevant issues. Recently, the vendors and their stalls were removed because of their illegal operations. However, the mess left behind leaves us with a question; was abolishment necessary or could there be a better way to address this issue?

Despite giving warnings and notices, vendors refuse to give-up their locations because it affects their income. However, it needs to be asked; where can these vendors go to earn? They probably cannot afford shops and may not have the money to buy fancy equipment to start a proper legal business.

Yes, these stalls are being removed for proper infrastructure construction but at the same time, it is also important to provide a platform for these vendors so that they can continue to earn for their household.

What is your say on this situation?

“The concept expresses the new BMW design language from all perspectives and in all details,” said Adrian van Hooydonk, senior vice president BMW Group Design ahead of the prototype’s reveal.

“From the dynamic-looking front to the striking flanks to the clean-cut tail end: a few lines and the subtle interplay between surfaces are enough to generate a sense of power and emotion.”

Design & Modification

The prototype will be debuting at Pebble Beach, however, from its first look, we see that the BMW Z4 is more dynamic in terms of look. Four- and six-cylinder turbocharged engines are expected.

On the other hand, according to AutoWeek, The all-new Z4 is expected to share many of its mechanicals, with the possible exception of engines, with the upcoming Toyota Supra.
