Microsoft Build 2016 Event Details & Highlights: Computing Platforms of the Future

Microsoft

Microsoft made a pitch Wednesday to developers to stay with the US tech giant, saying it remains a force in future technologies such as artificial intelligence and augmented reality.

Chief executive Satya Nadella highlighted Microsoft‘s advances with its HoloLens augmented reality goggles, its Cortana virtual assistant and its progress in cloud computing.

This means Microsoft is a force to be reckoned with even though it has lagged rivals like Apple and Google in powering mobile devices, according to Nadella.

Microsoft 1

“For us, mobile first is not about the mobility of any single device, it is the mobility of the human experience across all the devices and all the computing in our lives,” Nadella told the San Francisco gathering.

“Cloud is not a single destination, cloud is a new form of computing that in fact enables that mobility of experience across all our devices.”

The company said its Windows 10 operating system — which can be tied together a range of devices including PCs, phones, and tablets — now has some 270 million users.

“Windows 10 is off to an amazing start,” said Nadella, calling it the “fastest ever” adoption of the Windows operating system.

The 270 million represents new computers and devices with Windows 10 installed as well as upgrades of existing gadgets.

Microsoft has set a goal of having the operating system in use in more than a billion devices by 2018, which would put it on a par with Apple, which said this year it has one billion active devices running iOS.

Microsoft said it would introduce an update of the operating system in the coming months that will make Windows 10 available for its Xbox One game console and enable various devices to use the Microsoft digital assistant known as Cortana, an artificial intelligence tool.

The Windows update will also step up use of biometrics for authentication, allowing users to log into computers and their applications with their fingerprints, improving security by moving away from passwords.

Looking ahead with HoloLens

Microsoft also Wednesday began its first shipments of its HoloLens augmented reality headgear, staking its place in what is expected to be an emerging computing platform.

HoloLens is being delivered to application developers, with Microsoft opting for augmented reality rather than virtual reality in devices such as the Oculus Rift from Facebook.

While virtual reality is fully immersive, the partly immersive augmented reality allows users to multitask via virtual images superimposed on their normal field of view.

At the conference, the US tech giant showed some of the possibilities for HoloLens — such as giving users a view of Mars that up to now could only be seen by space vehicles, and an inside view of the brain by medical specialists aiming to deal with a brain tumor.

Aiming to encourage new applications for the device, Microsoft noted that developers can create a “new mixed reality” with holograms to enable users to see and experience things in new ways.

microsoft-build-2016-event-verge_200

Microsoft unveiled the HoloLens goggles a year ago as rivals such as Oculus were moving into virtual reality.

The holographic capabilities in the Microsoft gear can open doors for developers to augment tasks from complex surgery to motorcycle design, according to the company.

The developer editions will be available for $3,000 for app makers and otherMicrosoft partners.

One of the partners is NASA, which uses HoloLens to help users move about as if they are on Mars and figure out where they want the Rover to go.

microsoft-build-2016-event-verge_200

Pamela Davis, dean of the Case Western Reserve University medical school, led a demonstration showing how holographic images of the body and its organs, including the brain, can be used in doctor training.

With the goggles and Windows 10, Microsoft said in a statement it was “extending the Windows experience to holograms and allowing developers to begin helping build the future of holographic computing.”

The move by Microsoft comes just two days after Oculus began deliveries of the first Rift devices to consumers.

Careem Acquires Pakistani Ride Sharing-Service Savaree

Careem has recently acquired the Madeeha Syed’s Savaree, operating since the year 2014 in Lahore. However, the amount paid off to acquire Lahore’s first ever taxi service, Savaree wasn’t disclosed to the public as of yet.

Before the acquisition offer by Careem was out forward, the owner was already negotiating a deal before Uber announced expansion of it’s operations in Pakistan. The founder is all set to work as product lead for Careem’s global team.

Careem_Savaree

The acquisition appears to be a positive stop for both Careem and Savaree since the biggest taxi hailing company in the world will be entering the local market. The smart move will give Careem the advantage over ‘Uber’ since it will now have local market expertise and the talent it was lacking before.

Uber Introduces Booking From Google Maps

It will be great for Pakistani consumers if there are more similar service providers competing for market share.

This is what Managing Director, Junaid Iqbal for Careem had to say:

“We have had serious admiration for Madeeha, her grit, her entrepreneurial spirit and her awesome tenacity. She built Savaree from ground up, knows the nuts and bolts of this business and we are super excited to have her on board and lead product innovation for Pakistan. Careem’s strength in the region has been its localization of products, and Madeeha’s addition to the team is a shot in the arm on that front.”

Madeeha Syed also commented:

“This is still dream like for me. Hailing from Sadiqabad, graduating in Biotechnology, launching a tech startup, and to be acquired within 2 years, and now to join Careem, which is among the region’s most exciting startups. I see in Careem the same vision and values that I identify with deeply.”

Afghanistan & Kenya Cancel Plans To Visit Pakistan For ODI Series 2016

pak-vs-afghanistan

UPDATE: The Afghanistan and Kenya cricket have cancelled plans to visit Pakistan owed to security reasons, as reported by ARY News.

The cricket teams were scheduled to visit Pakistan and play matches with the clubs teams but not the countries have backed out of their commitment at the last minute. It could be due to the latest bombing incident in Lahore and the sit-ins at Islamabad.

News sources revealed that the matches between Afghanistan and Pakistan will not be played at UAE; there is no formal decision made in this regards, however.

English and Wales Cricket Board President Giles Clarke has also postponed their visit to Pakistan. The test teams have refused to tour Pakistan since the 2009 attack when the Sri Lankan cricket team was targetted in Lahore; this left the domestic side to play most of the home matches n the UAE.

Zimbabwe cricket team agreed to tour Pakistan for a restricted overs match series; Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) chairman Wilson Manase was truly ecstatic to witness the larger crowds at Lahore’s Gaddafi stadium.

“They are watching that the grounds are so full, they are watching the security given by the government and have understood Pakistan have the capacity to take any measures for the visiting team,” he said.

“I can tell you that players were never reluctant. They were always ready to go, we never had any dissent within,” Manase said.

“All players who were selected did come. We are safe, the players are safe and there is no problem.”

Before the Pakistani cricket team goes to England during the summers, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been contemplating to host a short ODI series with Afghanistan in April 2016.

Last year, Zimbabwe was the only cricket team to visit Pakistan after the Sri Lankan team was attacked in the year 2009. An official source from the PCB said,

An official source from the PCB said,“There is a series against Afghanistan in the pipeline, with Pakistan keen on hosting them in April. The discussions between the PCB and the Afghanistan Cricket Board have taken place. Initially, two four-day matches and three ODIs were proposed, but it might have to be limited to just three ODIs as we’ve got the Pentangular Cup scheduled as well.”

Afghanistan’s cricket team also visited Pakistan last year and learnt under the tutelage of Kabir Khan. They honed their cricket playing skills by playing against departmental teams. Other than that, they also played in Karachi during the Ramzan tournaments.

The PCB has even sent a request on paper to the provincial governments of Sindh and Punjab to provide proper security protocol and give security clearances for the matches that are to be played at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore and National Stadium, Karachi.

Amjad Hussain Bhatti from PCB verified the news and said,“We are planning to host Afghanistan.”

“The board has already sent a request to the Sindh and Punjab governments for security clearances. We will announce the series as soon as we receive confirmation.”

Islamists End Qadri Protest in Pakistani Capital Islamabad

Islamist protesters gathered in the Pakistani capital ended their days-long sit-in on Wednesday after claiming the government had agreed to a number of their demands including the hanging of a Christian woman convicted of blasphemy.

Pakistan‘s Interior Minister Chauhdry Nisar Ali Khan denied however that a deal had been struck, saying the demonstrators left “on their own accord”.

The protesters — who numbered some 25,000 at their peak — had gathered Sunday in support of Mumtaz Qadri, who was hanged in February five years after he assassinated a liberal Punjab governor over his calls to reform the country’s blasphemy laws.

The demonstrators clashed with security forces in Islamabad before setting up camp outside key government buildings along the capital’s main Constitution Avenue.

Islamabad-protest

Ashraf Asif Jalali, one of the protest’s main leaders, told reporters at the protest site Wednesday evening: “As a result of the continuous four-day sit-in, the government has accepted our demands.”

“Nobody involved in blasphemy against the Holy Prophet will be given concessions, whether they be Asia Bibi or anybody else,” he added, referring to a Christian woman on death row since 2010 over a dispute with Muslim women involving a bowl of water.

Islamabad Protest

He added that the government had also agreed to not make any changes toPakistan‘s controversial blasphemy law, which critics say is frequently used to oppress the poor and minorities.

protest-dchock

However, the interior minister denied any such deal was made.

“There has been nor written or any other form of agreement,” Khan said.

“We were about to give orders to law enforcement agencies for clearing the area but then two religious personalities intervened.”

sit-in1

The minister added that the protesters then decided to leave on their “own accord”.

The stand-off came as Pakistan mourned more than 70 people killed in a Taliban suicide bombing targeting Christians celebrating Easter Sunday in Lahore, underscoring deep religious divisions fuelling the Muslim country’s long battle with extremism.

A police source said more than 7,000 security forces were poised to clear the sit-in, including the paramilitary Rangers and Frontier Corps with reinforcements from the Punjab police, while army troops guarded key government buildings.

51602105

Columnist Gul Bukhari said that after initially underestimating the protesters and failing to read their intentions to hold a sit-in following funeral prayers Sunday, the government had acted wisely by allowing them to tire out and displaying an overwhelming show of force.

“The show of force was put out and, in the end, all they got was a safe passage out,” she said, adding there was nothing in the agreement claimed by the protest leaders that went beyond the current status quo and it was a “face-saving measure”.

“Of course, there are no amendments planned on the blasphemy law. But there was no question of that happening. The government doesn’t even have the prerogative to change the law, that is with parliament.”

Bukhari added that the case of Asia Bibi together with other blasphemy convicts was also a judicial matter and would not be affected.

– Qadri’s legacy –

Hailed as a hero by right-wing religious groups when he murdered Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer, the demonstrators have demanded that Qadri be named a “martyr” and called for the execution of Asia Bibi, a Christian mother of five convicted of blasphemy.

Pakistan has 17 people on death row for blasphemy including Bibi but has not executed anyone yet.

Qadri’s hanging hailed as a “key moment” by analysts in Pakistan‘s war on religious extremism, has become a flashpoint for the deep divisions in the conservative Muslim country.

His funeral earlier this month drew tens of thousands in an extremist show of force that alarmed moderate Muslims while the call to hang Bibi along with the Easter attack in Lahore has underscored a growing sense of insecurity forPakistan‘s minorities.

On Wednesday, the death toll from the Lahore bombing climbed again to 74. Dozens more remain in hospital, seven of them critical, medical staff told AFP.

“It’s a sense of great grief, sorrow and fear,” Shamoon Gill, spokesman for the AllPakistan Minorities Alliance, told AFP.

England Enters World Twenty20 2016 Final Dreamland

ENGLAND

Captain Eoin Morgan said England were in dreamland after crushing New Zealand by seven wickets in New Delhi on Wednesday to qualify for cricket‘s World Twenty20 final.

Jason Roy top-scored with a sensational 78 off 44 balls as England cantered home in 17.1 overs after their bowlers had restricted much-fancied New Zealand to 153 for eight.

The 2010 champions will play either host India or the West Indies in Sunday’s final at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens following the convincing last-four win at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium.

ENGLAND

“A final is the kind of thing you dream about,” said Morgan afterwards.

“Every player in that dressing room has worked extremely hard and made a lot of sacrifices over the past year to put us in this position,” the skipper added.

Chasing 154 for victory, England rode on a brisk 82-run partnership between opener Roy and Alex Hales as New Zealand’s bowlers, who had shone in the team’s unbeaten run to the semis, were made to suffer.

Even the introduction of spin after six overs of powerplay did little to improve the situation and Mitchell Santner eventually gave the Kiwis their first breakthrough when he got Hales (20) out.

England Beat New Zealand By 7 Wickets In World T20 Semi-Finals 2016

But Roy stayed in control, hitting 11 fours and two sixes, for a man-of-the-match performance.

“I got a few boundaries early and it just kept going from there,” said the 25-year-old.

“The whole team has that licence and opportunity to do what they want and be free with their skills. I just looked at the runs that were needed and knocked them off,” he added.

Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi took the wickets of Roy and Morgan (0) to leave himself on a hat-trick, but England made sure they stayed on course.

Jos Buttler (32), who denied Sodhi his hat-trick, and a composed Joe Root (27) then drove England to their second World T20 final, with Buttler hitting a four and two sixes against Sodhi to finish things off in style.

Earlier, Ben Stokes grabbed three wickets as England’s bowlers responded well to their captain’s decision to field first and restrict New Zealand towards the death after a poor start.

Not meant to be

New Zealand lost opener Martin Guptill early but Kane Williamson (32) and Colin Munro (46) counter-attacked with a 74-run partnership to lay a solid foundation before the Kiwis faltered late on.

Off-spinner Moeen Ali’s introduction in the 11th over soon saw the back of Williamson as England turned the screw.

Liam Plunkett bowled well in his second spell, denying Munro his fifty when a wild slice went straight into the safe hands of Ali at third man.

England’s fielders continued to pouch their catches and Morgan dived beautifully at extra cover to get rid of Ross Taylor off Chris Jordan.

The wickets quickly tumbled and New Zealand’s run-rate, which had started impressively, plummeted.

Stokes was going for a hat-trick near the end after sending back Luke Ronchi for three and the hard-hitting Anderson for 28.

The impressive all-rounder ended with figures of 3-26 as New Zealand lost five wickets for 35 runs in the final 30 deliveries of their innings.

Williamson said his charges had failed to take advantage of a promising start.

“We were 130 for three which is certainly a good platform for any game of Twenty20 cricket and we were not able to capitalise on that,” said the Kiwi skipper.

“(But) credit to England, the way they played… Jason Roy took the game away,” he added.

“Today was not meant to be for us.”

England Beat New Zealand By 7 Wickets In World T20 Semi-Finals 2016

england-wins

New Zealand media have likened Eoin Morgan’s England team to Frankenstein’s monster, saying they turned the Black Caps’ own game plan against them to win the World Twenty20 semi-final on Wednesday.

While acknowledging England were the better team and deserved the seven-wicket win in New Delhi, Kiwi pundits said the seeds of the result were sown when the sides met in Wellington last year at the Cricket World Cup.

In that match, eventual finalists New Zealand trounced England by eight wickets, prompting Morgan’s men to review their style and emulate the Black Caps’ aggressive tactics.

Fairfax New Zealand’s Duncan Johnstone wrote.

“This was an England team that the Black Caps turned into a monster. And the monster came back to destroy them.”

england-wins

The New Zealand Herald’s Andrew Alderson said England also mimicked the Black Caps by taking the emotion out of their cricket, delivering “a clinical dissection which wouldn’t have looked amiss in an operating theatre”.

“If the Black Caps could be deemed ‘the masters’, their apprentices trumped them,” he wrote.

He added that “England have morphed into a side with swagger and chutzpah”, since their Wellington humiliation, rating them a good chance of winning the decider on Sunday against either India or the West Indies.

Johnstone said the heavy loss was a “limp” end to a campaign that saw the Black Caps cruise through the group stages undefeated, including wins over Australia, India and Pakistan.

The New Zealanders have shown they can advance deep into limited-overs tournaments but are yet to reach the next level and win a 50-over or T20 World Cup.

However, Kane Williamson proved himself an able captain for the post-Brendon McCullum era and the promising young spin duo of Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner excelled.

Former Black caps paceman Simon Doull said Williamson’s men exceeded expectations, finally showing they could play in Indian conditions, and should not be judged too harshly.

“We’ve had a good tournament and adapted to conditions really well, I don’t think this is a failure,” he told Radio Sport.

“Today’s game will be disappointing, but if you’d told me at the start of the tournament that we’ll go there and make the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup on the sub continent, I’d have said ‘no way’.”

West Indies Beat India By 7 Wickets-Enter WT20 Final 2016

india-vs-west-indies

UPDATE: The West Indies clinched their place in the final of the World Twenty20 on Thursday with a stunning seven-wicket victory over the hosts India at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium.

Virat Kohli top-scored with 89 as India made a respectable total of 192 for two against West Indies in the second semi-final of cricket’s World Twenty20 on Thursday.

India’s talisman hit 11 fours and one six as he injected much-needed life into the hosts’ innings after West Indies won the toss and elected to field at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

Kohli, in at number three, started nervously though and the Windies were left to rue a bizarre moment in the ninth over when they should have run the 27-year-old out.

After missing a free hit, Kohli, on one, inexplicably began running for a single, only to be waved back by Ajinkya Rahane.

Both wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin and bowler Dwayne Bravo then missed the stumps from just a few yards out, handing Kohli an unlikely reprieve for his moment of madness.

India’s hottest prospect breathed a huge sigh of relief and quickly began putting runs on the board after a slow start from openers Rohit Sharma and Rahane.

The ground is known to be a batsman’s paradise but boundaries were few and far between in the opening stages as India picked up singles with some quick running between the wickets.

Sharma hit three fours and three sixes in his 31-ball 43 while Rahane took 35 deliveries to reach 40, scoring only two fours and no sixes.

Kohli, who entered the fray in the eighth over after Sharma was bowled lbw by Samuel Badree, upped the tempo, to the delight of a packed crowd at the 33,000-seater stadium.

India were at 86 for one at the halfway stage and it wasn’t until the 13th over that they reached 100.

But Kohli put his foot on the gas to race to 89 in just 47 balls as India set the Windies a run chase of 193 in their 20 overs.

The victors will take on England in Sunday’s final at Eden Gardens in Kolkata after Eoin Morgan’s side defeated New Zealand in the first last-four match.

West Indies won the toss and elected to field against India in the second semi-final of cricket‘s World Twenty20 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

Big-hitting opener Chris Gayle returned for the West Indies after sitting out their dead rubber defeat to Afghanistan, with Evin Lewis making way.

Lendl Simmons also came in for the injured Andre Fletcher.

India also made two changes to the team that defeated Australia on Sunday, with Ajinkya Rahane and Manish Pandey replacing Shikhar Dhawan and the injured Yuvraj Singh.

The victors will take on England in Sunday’s final at Eden Gardens in Kolkata after Eoin Morgan’s side defeated New Zealand in the first last-four match.

Chris Gayle is determined to grab the World Twenty20 limelight back from in-form Virat Kohli when the West Indies and India clash in a mouth-watering semi-final in Mumbai on Thursday.

The destructive opener smashed an unbeaten century, which included 11 sixes, in the West Indies’ opening win against England but has only batted once since, making just four.

Kohli has been the star of the tournament so far, expertly guiding India through the group stages with a half-century against Pakistan and 82 not out in a crunch win over Australia.

With the flat wicket at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium a dream for batsmen, the last-four showdown between the hosts and 2012 champions is set to be a battle of the big-hitters.

“I am looking to show what Chris Gayle is,” Gayle warned ominously on Tuesday.

“I have only batted twice but this (semi-final) is a perfect opportunity to actually start the tournament and try and pick up where I left off, get a big one for the team and put them in a winning position,” he added.

The 36-year-old described Kohli, who is the top run-scorer left in the tournament with 184, as a “world beater” but insisted neither he nor the West Indies was concerned about individual players.

“Chris Gayle will always be positive. It does not matter which bowler is bowling against Chris Gayle,” he said.

“Chris Gayle would attack. That’s the nature of T20 cricket. And that’s the nature of Chris Gayle.

“No names, just cricket ball, beat it as hard as possible,” Gayle added.

Injury worries

India is looking to take another step on their quest to become the first team to win the World T20 twice, after their triumph in the inaugural 2007 edition, and the first on home soil.

They are also bidding to give inspirational 34-year-old captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni — who is though to be close to announcing his retirement — the chance to out on a high.

India was stunned by New Zealand in their first match but picked up three straight wins to qualify second from Group Two.

By contrast, the Windies won their opening three games to top Group One before being shocked by minnows Afghanistan.

Gayle believes India have the momentum but warned that “anything was possible”.

“India are the favourites. It is always going to be difficult to beat them here. But the West Indies are ready for an upset,” he said.

The Windies preparations were dealt a blow with the announcement that Andre Fletcher, whose unbeaten 84 fired his team to victory over Sri Lanka, had been ruled out the rest of the tournament with a hamstring injury.

Fletcher has been replaced by Lendl Simmons, who gets a second chance to take part having been originally named in the squad but having to withdraw on the eve of the tournament with a bad back.

India meanwhile are sweating on the fitness of left-handed batsman Yuvraj Singh, who picked up an ankle injury against the Aussies. Ajinkya Rahane and Manish Pandey stand ready to replace him.

“I don’t know whether we should make changes but it is possible, depending on the wicket,” Dhoni said earlier this week.

World T20 2016: India’s Yuvraj Ruled Out of WT20 Semifinal

Indian veteran allrounder Yuvraj Singh was Wednesday ruled out of the World Twenty20 on the eve of the hosts’ semi-final clash with the West Indies, after suffering an ankle injury.

Batsman Manish Pandey will replace Yuvraj who picked up the injury during India’s six-wicket win over Australia that booked them a spot in Thursday’s semi-final encounter, the International Cricket Council said.

The 34-year-old scored 21 runs in Mohali and took one wicket, but struggled with the bat during earlier matches in the tournament, managing just 4, 24 and 3.

Pandey became the first Indian to score a century in the glitzy Indian Premier League T20 competition, but the 26-year-old last played for India in July against Zimbabwe.

India, the 2007 champions, will take on 2012 winners the West Indies in the second semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

England and New Zealand clash in the first semi in New Delhi later on Wednesday.

Pakistani Protesters Refuse To End Qadri Islamabad Red Zone Protest

UPDATE: Islamist protesters gathered in the Pakistani capital said Wednesday they would not end their days-long sit-in and were “willing to die”, as armed security forces readied to clear the camp.

The stand-off, which comes as Pakistan mourns more than 70 people killed in a Taliban suicide bombing targeting Christians celebrating Easter Sunday in Lahore, underscores deep religious divisions fuelling the Muslim country’s long battle with extremism.

Several thousand protesters marched on Islamabad Sunday, clashing with security forces before setting up camp outside key government buildings along the capital’s main Constitution Avenue.

The protestors — who numbered some 25,000 at their peak — had gathered in support of Mumtaz Qadri, who was hanged in late February five years after he assassinated a liberal Punjab governor over his calls to reform the country’s blasphemy laws.

Islamabad-protest

The government gave the demonstrators an ultimatum to leave late Tuesday, but it went unheeded, prompting the government to issue a second call saying security forces would begin an operation to clear the area Wednesday morning.

“If the protesters do not disperse peacefully tonight, then we will evict them in the morning in front of everyone,” Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told reporters late Tuesday.

Protesters were calm Wednesday morning as leaders said they were holding talks with authorities.

“We won’t move from this place until and unless all 10 demands are accepted,” said protest leader Ashraf Asif Jalali.

“Our workers are willing to die. If the government takes action they will not run away but face the bullets. They are not armed with guns but with clubs.”

A police source said more than 7,000 security forces were poised to clear the sit-in, including the paramilitary Rangers and Frontier Corps with reinforcements from the Punjab police.

Army troops are already standing guard at government buildings near the protest camp.

Qadri’s legacy

Hailed as a hero by right-wing religious groups when he murdered Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer, the demonstrators have demanded that Qadri be named a “martyr” and called for the execution of Asia Bibi, a Christian mother of five on death row for blasphemy.

They have also demanded the imposition of Sharia law.

The government has so far rejected their demands.

Qadri’s hanging hailed as a “key moment” by analysts in Pakistan‘s war on religious extremism, has become a flashpoint for the deep divisions in the conservative Muslim country.

His funeral earlier this month drew tens of thousands in an extremist show of force that alarmed moderate Muslims in the country while the call to hang Bibi along with the Easter attack in Lahore has underscored a growing sense of insecurity for Pakistan‘s minorities.

“It’s a sense of great grief, sorrow and fear,” Shamoon Gill, spokesman for the AllPakistan Minorities Alliance, told AFP.

The Lahore blast had left Christians feeling that “no place is safe”, he said, while the “mob situation” in Islamabad was “dangerous”.

“They are a serious threat to Asia Bibi’s life… there is a chance the government could bow down to pressure on this issue,” he warned.

Moderate Muslims are also set to suffer by growing religious extremism, he said, calling on the government to devise a “clear strategy”.

Pakistani security forces readied to move on Islamist protesters to end a days-long sit-in on the streets of the capital after setting a Wednesday morning deadline for the demonstration to disperse.

Qadri protest

“If the protesters do not disperse peacefully tonight, then we will evict them in the morning in front of everyone,” Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told reporters late Tuesday.

A police source said more than 5,000 security forces would be deployed to clear the sit-in, including the paramilitary Rangers and Frontier Corps with reinforcements from the Punjab police.

Army troops are already standing guard at government buildings near the protest camp.

Human shield

Hailed as a hero by right-wing religious groups at the time of the murder, the demonstrators have demanded that Qadri be named a “martyr” and called for the execution of a Christian mother of five convicted for blasphemy.

They have also demanded the imposition of Sharia law.

The government has rejected their demands.

Qadri’s hanging hailed as a “key moment” by analysts in Pakistan‘s long battle against religious extremism, has become a flashpoint for the deep divisions in the conservative Muslim country.

A legal notice issued to the protesters and seen by AFP accused the protesters of attempting “to frustrate the government’s drive against terrorism”.

When the government first demanded the sit-in to clear voluntarily, Interior Minister Khan said the protesters were using women and children as a “human shield” and the government could not clear the area at night for fear of hurting people.

AFP journalists at the scene on Tuesday did not see any women or children in the crowd of around 2,000.

Protesters shouted religious slogans while the leaders made fiery speeches vowing to continue their sit-in.

When the demonstrators first marched on the capital Sunday, violent clashes erupted with police and paramilitary troops.

The protesters set alight container trucks — positioned by authorities at key intersections to try and block their advance on the capital — and police responded with heavy tear gas shelling.

Sunny Leone’s Raees ‘Item Song’ Selfie

Sunny-Leone

UPDATE: As we all know, Sunny Leone is to shoot a special item number for the upcoming SRK and Mahira Khan Movie Raees. Sunny Leone will be seen dancing to the remixed version of the 70s hit song, Laila O Laila, previously performed by Zeenat Aman.

The excited actress who is performing the dance number with King Khan recently shared a selfie from the sets of Raees; she will be part of the 2-day shoot of the song.

Interestingly enough, Raees had completed 100 days of shooting yesterday. The sultry actress was quite pepped up about the shoot, tweeted a picture of herself donning a special badge in a selfie.

The badge has the picture of Miyaan Bhai Shah Rukh Khan with 100 days written on the badge. Sunny Leone tweeted the following:

 “So happy I got to be a part of the 100th day of @RaeesTheFilm with @iamsrk @rahuldholakia @ritesh_sid #thegoodlife”

It will definitely be fun to watch SRK and Sunny Leone grooving to Laila O Laila together!

The movie Raees is slated for an Eid release this year.

SRK Is Unhappy With Raees Co-Star Mahira Khan

Sunny Leone, the 34-year-old actress will be shaking a leg with Shah Rukh Khan in Rahul Dholakia’s crime-drama Raees. And the chartbuster they will sizzle to is none other than Qurbani’s “Laila O Laila” which featured Feroz Khan and Zeenat Aman way back when in 1980.

Producer duo Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, who are fans of the classic number, acquired the rights to Amit Kumar-Kanchan song which is being re-recorded and rendered with faster beats.

SRK & Mahira’s Raees in Legal Trouble!

“Raees is set in the ’80s and there was need of a song sequence. The makers unanimously selected ‘Laila O Laila’ which perfectly fits with the dark, gangster theme and period. It was suggested to Shah Rukh and it was his idea to get Sunny on board. A lavish set is being created in Mumbai and rehearsals are on in full swing,” reveals a source close to the development.

The makers have planned a similar club set-up as seen in the original 1980 film with Sunny wearing a white, sequinned gown and a feathery headgear as she woos SRK who plays bootlegger Raees Khan.

In the film, his business is eventually thwarted by a police officer – Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Khan’s ladylove is played by Pakistani actress Mahira Khan.

“She (Sunny Leone) will begin shooting for Raees next month. It will be a two-day schedule,” the source adds.

Sunny Leone seems to be getting more and more popular with the A-listers by the day. The actress first did a cameo in Akshay Kumar’s ‘Singh is Bliing,’ then found a strong supporter in Aamir Khan, who made it clear that he has no qualms about working with Sunny, and now the girl is likely to be sharing screen space with Shah Rukh Khan!

Google Unveils Landline Phone!

Google on Tuesday March 29 unveiled a new landline telephone service aimed at helping consumers stay connected in the Internet cloud.

The new Fiber Phone service will be made available to a few US markets and later expanded to other cities where Google offers high-speed Internet.

The new service adds a few high-tech features to the landline, such as transcribing voice mails and delivering them as written messages, and connecting with mobile phones when consumers are away.

GOOGLE-PHONE

“While mobile phones have pushed us toward the future, home phone service is still important to many families,” Google’s John Shriver-Blake said in a blog post.

“Landlines can be familiar, reliable and provide high-quality service, but the technology hasn’t always kept up,” he said.

“That’s why today, we’re introducing Fiber Phone as a new option to help you stay connected wherever you are.”

The new service enables “getting access on the road, in the office, or wherever you are,” Shriver-Blake said.

“Your Fiber Phone number lives in the cloud, which means that you can use it on almost any phone, tablet or laptop. It can ring your landline when you’re home, or your mobile device when you’re on-the-go,” he added.

Google Fiber, which offers ultra-fast service, is now available in four US cities, with several others set to come online soon.
