Plus Rava.pk, being a video curation forum, also let users submit viral-worthy videos. After extensive moderation, the content submitted is made open to the public.

The comments section, however, is given a free reign, “to encourage free flow of extemporaneous ideas, as comment moderation robs the discussion of spontaneity,’ Paracha said, adding that the hateful and expletives-laden comments, even though removed immediately, are a by-product of a ‘thriving culture of free speech.’

BUT THIS IS NOT IT!

Truly transcending boundaries with its innovative strategy of video curation, Rava.pk’s next stop is to build its own newsroom with a powerful portfolio of experienced journalists and editors to provide insightful reports and reviews on the latest issues.

Even cooler is its plan for an extensive archive of Pakistani, Bollywood and Hollywood movies based on a profit-sharing model, benefitting filmmakers as well as the website. Rava.pk’s team has similar plans for making available movies of Iran, French, Brazil, Italy, South Korea and Japan for the Pakistani audience, but acknowledge that might prove to be a bridge too far.

Nonetheless, it is the dreamers and those with unbridled passion who really make a mark. It might be early days for Rava.pk but it continues to grow and explore the endless possibilities available in our digitally driven world. Rest assured, this infotainment video portal is bound to delight you with its endless array of videos available online. And who knows, one day we might be able to watch the next ‘City of God’ on Rava.pk!

Google Voice Guided Turn-by-Turn Navigation Launched For Pakistan

google turn by turn navigation service

After introducing the real time traffic update feature, Google has now launched a turn-by turn navigation feature for Pakistani users. Google Navigation, in beta form, is offered via Google Maps. Any person with an Android phone latest Google Maps application feature would be able to make use of the feature.

However, with the new navigation feature launched for Pakistani users, it will offer automatic guidance, on the basis of real-time location and voice command details.

The phone screen will be lit up all throughout the navigation mode, for any turns or alerts. In case you take any wrong turn or face traffic jams, voice guidance feature will alert you of such real-time events.

Mother Teresa to Be Declared A Saint, 2 Decades After Her Death!

Mother Teresa will be cleared to become a saint on Tuesday after a Vatican panel recognizes a second miracle attributed to the late nun famed for her work with the poor of Kolkata.

The committee of senior clerics that approves elevations to sainthood is due to meet from around 0900 GMT with the long-awaited green light seen as a formality, less than two decades after her death.

Pope Francis will then sign a decree approving the canonization of the 1979 Nobel peace prize winner and announce a date and venue for it to happen.

mother teresa 1

The Albanian nun and missionary will be one of five candidates for sainthood considered at Tuesday’s session, but by far the most high-profile.

The canonization is widely expected to take place on September 4, the eve of the anniversary of her 1997 death, for which a celebration of her memory had already been scheduled as part of the Church’s Jubilee Year of Mercy.

mother teresa

Indian Catholics had hoped Francis would travel to India for the canonization ceremony but, barring a last minute surprise, it is expected to take place in Rome with a thanksgiving ceremony scheduled for the following month in the Indian city.

Known across the world, Teresa was awarded the Nobel for her work with the poor, sick, old and lonely in the teeming slums of Kolkata, previously known as Calcutta.

She is revered by many Catholics but has also been attacked as a “religious imperialist” who attempted to foist her beliefs on an impoverished community in which they had no indigenous roots.

From sister to sainthood

Born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu to Albanian parents in 1910 in what is now Skopje in Macedonia, Teresa arrived in India in 1929, having first spent time with a missionary order in Ireland.

She went on to found the Missionaries of Charity order in 1950 and was granted Indian citizenship a year later.

Last year she was credited by Vatican experts with inspiring the 2008 recovery of a Brazilian man suffering from multiple brain tumours, thus meeting the Church’s standard requirement for sainthood of having been involved in two certifiable miracles.

mother teresa 3

She was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2003 following a fast-track process involving the recognition of a claim she had posthumously inspired the 1998 healing of a Bengali tribal women.

Francis met Teresa before he became pope, in 1994, and later joked that she had seemed so formidable he “would have been scared if she had been my mother superior”.

Others were much harsher in their judgement with the likes of Germaine Greer and polemicist Christopher Hitchens accusing her of contributing to the misery of the poor with her strident opposition to contraception and abortion.

In her Nobel acceptance speech she described terminations of pregnancies as “direct murder by the mother herself.”

Questions have also been raised over the Missionaries of Charity’s finances, as well as conditions in the order’s hospices.

A series of her letters published in 2007 also caused some consternation among admirers, as it became clear that she had suffered crises of faith for most of her life.

mother teresa 2

India granted her a state funeral after her death and her grave in the order’s headquarters has since become a pilgrimage site.

P&G Faces Backlash For Safeguard’s Deceptive Marketing

safeguard

A show-cause notice was issued to Proctor and Gamble Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd (P&G) by the Competition Commission of Pakistan on Monday, for suspected misleading marketing techniques, which were “in violation of Section 10 of the Competition Act 2010.”

An objection from Reckitt Benckiser (Pakistan) Ltd (RB) led the CCP to conduct an inquiry into the ‘Safeguard’ promotion campaign, that talks about the soap being “Pakistan’s No. 1 rated anti-bacterial soap.”

According to the CCP Director Advocacy and Media, Asfandyar Khattak, one of the CCP Officers of Fair Trade inquiry established that P&G had been unsuccessful in providing “substantial justification for terming Safeguard as Pakistan’s No. 1 rated anti-bacterial soap.”

The statement further elaborated that “According to the inquiry, the false claim has thus resulted in the distribution of false and/or misleading information to consumers related to the quality of their product Safeguard in violation of Section 10 of the Competition Act.”

The CCP also claimed “false claim” can possibly influence the consumers to favor Safeguard over other rival anti-bacterial soaps available “as opposed to the facts.”

P&G may perhaps damage the competitors’ business welfare in doing so, which also includes RB, which is an infringement of Section 10 of the Competition Commission Act, because of this a show-cause notice has also been subjected to P&G, according to what the CCP stated.

The corporation has been called for a hearing “on a given date,” the CCP alleged.

World T20 2016 India Vs NZ: Virat Kohli Urges Team To Stay Calm

virat-kohli

Star batsman Virat Kohli urged his team-mates to stay calm Monday amid growing fervour about India’s prospects in the World Twenty20, ahead of the host’s tricky tournament opener against New Zealand.

After winning 10 of their last 11 T20 internationals, India is red-hot favourites for the World T20 and former batsman Virender Sehwag said last week he was “99 percent certain” they would become the first team to win the trophy for the second time.

But Kohli, who is sometimes regarded as something of a firebrand, tried to put a dampener on expectations in a press conference on the eve of the match in Nagpur and said it was important not to get carried away.

virat-kohli

“I think the key is to learn from the past where calmness is required in big tournaments like the ICC (International Cricket Council) events because you can get sort of carried away or over anxious or over excited,” said Kohli, who is India’s Test captain.

“Both those feelings are not great for any side going into a big tournament”.

“What we’ve learned from playing in big tournaments in the past is that we have to stay as calm as possible and focus on the skills that need to be executed on the field.”

India has a woeful track record against the Black Caps in World T20 tournaments, losing four out of their five previous encounters while the other match was rained off.

http://www.brandsynario.com/afridi-served-with-legal-notice-over-controversial-statement/

Big-hitting Black Caps

And although New Zealand has been undermined by inspirational skipper Brendon McCullum’s retirement on the eve of the tournament, their performance in warm-up matches shows they are not lacking for firepower.

They thrashed the holders Sri Lanka last Thursday when Colin Munro, Corey Anderson and Grant Elliott all posted half-centuries in rapid time. Skipper Kane Williamson then smashed an entertaining 63 when New Zealand narrowly lost to England in their final warm-up match on Saturday.

India also suffered a rare defeat in what was an unofficial T20 international on Saturday when they lost by four runs to South Africa in another high-scoring match.

With their powerful openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma hitting a purple patch, and the veteran Yuvraj Singh also in good nick, India will expect to post a big total on a batsman-friendly pitch in Nagpur.

Kohli, in top form himself, said rookie Indian bowlers Jaspreet Bumrah and Hardik Pandya would also be crucial to the outcome, saying they had showed few signs of nerves in their fledgeling international careers.

“Players like Hardik and Bumrah they have more confidence than when we started out,” he said.

“They have performed in different situations and they have brought that confidence with them into the side.

“They have backed their skills and I think this is, what has been the x-factor for us.”

Like many of his fellow skippers, Williamson believes that India is the team to beat but says his side — which is still to win a world cup — do not lack in belief.

“No doubt India will be possibly the favourites for this tournament but I think all the teams will come here thinking they can win it,” he said last week.

IIFA 2016 to Be Held in Madrid, Spain in June

Madrid will host the IIFAs aka the “Bollywood Oscars”on June 25, officials said Monday, with Spain hoping the glittering awards ceremony will help draw more tourists from fast-growing India.

Over 100 Bollywood stars will attend the International Indian Film Academy awards, which is expected to have a worldwide viewership of about 800 million people, according to organizers.

“It is going to be real, real madness,” Anil Kapoor, one of India’s most popular actors who starred in “Slumdog Millionaire”, told a news conference in Madrid.

IIFA 2015: The Best Dressed Bollywood Celebrities

“There is a tremendous amount of similarity between the Spanish people and Indian people. We believe in enjoying life, we believe in family values, we love to dance.”

The ceremony, first held in 2000, honors the previous year’s films and is filled with over the top performances. It is held in a different country each year.

The choice of Madrid to host the event comes as Spain is pushing to diversify its tourism base beyond the traditional northern European sunseekers and capture a greater slice of the rising tourism flows from emerging economies like India.

Last year just 85,000 Indians visited Spain but this is nearly a threefold rise from 30,000 visitors in 2011, the director general of Spanish tourist board Turespana, Marta Blanco, said at the presentation of the awards show.

IIFA 2015 Twitter Roundup – Winners’ List & Event Highlights

“It is a country with great potential. We want a better positioning of our country in this strategic market,” she said.

The Indian film awards is expected to bring 15,000 visitors to Madrid during the week of the ceremony and generate 15 million euros ($16.7 million) in revenue, organizers said.

Several hundred people turned out on Sunday for a flashmob hosted by Kapoor and two other top Bollywood stars — actress Sonakshi Sinha and heartthrob Hrithik Roshan — in front to Madrid city hall to promote the awards ceremony.

The actors then posted tweeted pictures of themselves eating jamon (ham) at a Madrid market, dancing flamenco and meeting with Real Madrid starts Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema at the club’s Bernabeu stadium.

Known for catchy songs and whimsical backdrops, India’s film industry is thriving commercially with the country producing over 1,000 movies a year — more than Hollywood.

The Indian industry sells over four billion movie tickets a year, according to the International Indian Film Academy award organizers. The Indian film awards were held in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia last year. Europe last hosted the event in 2007 when it was held in Yorkshire, England.

PSFW 2016 Day 4: Pictures & Event Highlights

The Day 4 of PSFW was a bonus to fashion lovers as we usually have a three-day fashion week here in Pakistan. It was actually an unwanted day that was added to the schedule.

Except for Deepak Perwani, there were no designer showcases; rather, retail brands and textile houses were offered this forum to showcase their voile collections, which we think is not required as these brands individually host their lawn launches with proper presentations.

Nevertheless, it is good to see fashion week expanding its horizons and inviting more brands and adding new genres. Let’s see which of these design houses made an ever lasting impression on us with their collections and which one could not succeed in doing a good job.

Deepak Perwani

Ace designer Deepak Perwani showcased his The Return of D-Philosophy collection. Geometric prints, splashes of colours and artistic strokes defined this assemblage of Perwani.

Overall, the collection was modern and edgy featuring trousers, palazzos, skirts and asymmetrical hemlines on a variety of fabrics including silks, chiffons chamois and rawsilk.

Television and film personality Wiqar Ali Khan walked the ramp as the brand’s celebrity showstopper.

Al-Karam

Popular retail brand and textile house exhibited its spring/summer collection on day 4 of PSFW.

The usage of crochets and lace with bold peacock and preppy ajrak prints was a break from usual floral prints that we see on every other lawn, but the way collection was presented completely killed its vibe.

All the designs were tailored without putting any thoughts and trends which made it look less than ordinary.

Khas

Khas also showcased its premium lawn 2016 collection. Sober colour tones were used by the brand and the placement of prints wwas done with a spin of creativity.

There were a few prints that truly stood out not only because of their prints but also because the way they were tailored and styled like the one worn by Mehreen Syed.

Warda Prints

Warda Prints paid tribute to eminent painter Frida Kahlo. The collection was inspired by the painter’s ever famous self-portraits. In fact, all the models paraded on the ramp with Kahlo’s signature floral head band.

Most of the dresses that were part of the collection had prints in stripes running down the neckline forming a rectangular shape just like Khalo’s most of the clothing design. Even though the prints and its placement was inspired by this legendary artist, but the cuts and silhouette of the collection were in complete contrast of Khalo’s style.

She was known to wear ankle length hemlines to hide her damaged legs. Also, the collection had influences of Khalo but lacked the prodigious talent and arresting beauty that she used to exude.

House of Ittehad

House of Ittehad collaborated with iconic designer Nilofer Shahid to design their lawn collection for their SS’16 collection. From monochrome to bright hues to sober tones, the colour palette for the range was quite diversified.

In addition to floral prints, we also witnessed colourful tapestry masterly arranged on fabrics as well as some intricate embroidery to bring the glam quotient.

Gul Ahmed

This glitzy affair of fashion week came to an end with Gul Ahmed. The renowned brand showcased its spring/summer collection. Floral prints over a varied colour palette were dominant. Most of the prints looked repetitive and there was nothing refreshing about this collection.

However, the way the collection was presented by focusing on seasonal trends and by adorning all the dresses with captivating baubles was something that made the collection appealing to eyes.

Bollywood Actresses & Their Whopping Charges for Public Appearances

Bollywood is an expensive game. With millions spent on keeping up a glamorous lifestyle filled with branded clothes, designer shoes and luxury cars, it come as no surprise that even the top ranked Bollywood actors ask for big amounts for public appearances including wedding, events and performances.

Indian website, SpotboyE compiled an interesting list of B-town’s divas and their whopping rate cards. While the list does mention a few A-listers and a few yesteryears actress, it fails to mention any current big names.

Seeing the list, it seems the Bengali beauty, Bipasha Basu and Chitragada Singh charge the highest amount for gracing an event with their star power. Some popular TV actresses, including Bigg Boss star, Karishma Tanna and the current ruling Queen of Indian television, Mouni Roy are also in demand.

ICC World T20 2016: 5 Key Players in Group 2

Players to watch from Group 2 of the World Twenty20, featuring India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia and Bangladesh, as the tournament’s main draw gets underway on Tuesday:

Ravichandran Ashwin (India):

With question marks over India’s pace attack, Ashwin will be the team’s go-to man in home conditions. The off-spinner comes into the tournament as the top-ranked T20 bowler in the absence of the West Indies’ Sunil Narine.

Ravichandran Ashwin

With many variations including the ‘carrom ball’ up his sleeve, Ashwin is feared on Indian wickets and he’s also handy with the bat lower down the order.

Colin Munro (New Zealand):

Forget Kane Williamson, Martin Guptill and Corey Anderson, New Zealand suddenly has another big-hitter in the form of Munro, 29. The unheralded left-hander has been in sensational form this year and starred in the Black Caps’ 74-run thrashing of Sri Lanka in Thursday’s warm-up match in Mumbai.

colin munro

Munro smashed 67, including seven sixes, off 34 balls, leading Anderson to call him “one hell of a player”. His form is timely for New Zealand, after the retirement of their swashbuckling captain Brendon McCullum.

David Warner (Australia):

Arguably the most brutal opener in Test cricket, Warner has been handed a new role in the middle order of Australia’s T20 side. A blistering 77 off just 40 balls against South Africa last weekend showed how quickly he has adapted to the change and he says he is relishing the opportunity to face more spin bowling.

david-warner

Warner made his debut for Australia’s T20 team even before he played first-class cricket but is now an automatic pick in all formats. His in-your-face approach has landed him in trouble, including his infamous 2013 ban for punching England’s Joe Root in a bar.

But as vice-captain in what is a relatively inexperienced squad, much responsibility now rests on the 29-year-old’s shoulders.

Shoaib Malik (Pakistan):

The middle-order batsman made his international debut back in 1999 when still a teenager, beginning a rollercoaster ride which seems to be drawing to a close. Still only 34, he dropped a bombshell last November by announcing his retirement from Test cricket, only three matches after a five-year exile.

But he remains a key member of Pakistan‘s one-day and T20 squads and a calming influence in a crisis situation. After Pakistan‘s disastrous performance in the recent Asia Cup in Bangladesh, skipper Shahid Afridi will be looking to Malik to mentor the side’s young batsmen.

Husband of Indian tennis star Sania Mirza, Malik was at the crease when Pakistan lifted the T20 crown in 2009 and would love to repeat the victory in Kolkata on April 3.

Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh):

Widely regarded as the best cricketer Bangladesh has produced, Shakib is a canny left-arm spinner and a power middle-order batsman with a wide array of strokes. Shakib is also Bangladesh’s most experienced T20 campaigner and has played in domestic leagues in four different countries.

Previously ranked as the world’s number one all-rounder, he has been the main factor behind the team’s sharp improvement in one-day cricket in the last two years. But the brash 28-year-old has also made headlines for the wrong reasons and he was slapped with a six-month ban in 2014 by the Bangladeshi board for a “severe attitude problem” after he tried to play in the Caribbean Premier League without permission.

He was also suspended briefly last year for a foul-mouthed outburst at an umpire in Bangladesh’s domestic T20 tournament.

The explosive batsman is one of cricket‘s biggest personalities, but never far from controversy. The Jamaican was fined US$7,000 after he asked an Australian interviewer reporter out on live TV at the Big Bash. Gayle was unabashed, telling critics to kiss his “Black Rass” on social media.

On the field he smashed 50 off just 12 balls for the Melbourne Renegades in January to equal the fastest half-century in T20 history.

VIRAT KOHLI (India)

India vice-captain and talisman Kohli is in red-hot form and will be key to the chances of the host nation when their campaign begins against New Zealand on March 15.

The 27-year-old’s aggressive batting and self-assurance bailed India out more than once during the recent Asia Cup, exemplified by his poise in the face of a torrid spell from Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir and an unbeaten 41 to see his side to victory in the final against Bangladesh.

MOHAMMAD AMIR (Pakistan)

The pace bowler returns for his first ICC event following a five-year ban for spot-fixing upon the back of impressive performances on tour in New Zealand and the recently-concluded Asian Cup.

Tall and intimidating, the 23-year-old Amir was considered one of the best young fast bowling prospects in the world before his fall from grace but his composure could be severely tested by hostile Indian crowds.

AB DE VILLIERS (South Africa)

Nicknamed “Superman”, a destructive batsmen in all formats who is adored in India for his power batting in the IPL. Holds the records for the fastest 50 (16 balls), 100 (31 balls) and 150 (64 balls) in the 50-over format.

In Johannesburg in February he smashed the fastest T20 50 by a South African, off just 21 balls, and went on to make a match and series-winning 71 off 29 balls against England.

BEN STOKES (England)

Hailed by some as the new Ian Botham, all-rounder Stokes began 2016 by tonking the second fastest Test double hundred off just 163 balls against South Africa and went on to clear the boundary a record 11 times before he was out for 259 off 198 balls.

Also a go-to man with the ball, he became in South Africa the first England player since Botham more than 30 years ago to exceed 350 runs and 12 wickets in an overseas Test series.

Pakistan Rains Leave 42 Dead: Officials

The death toll from torrential rain that has lashed Pakistan for the past five days has risen to 42, authorities said Monday, with collapsed roofs blamed for the fatalities.

Apart from the deaths, 70 injuries were reported and 75 houses damaged, said a statement by the National Disaster Management Authority. The rain began late Thursday across the country, with the southwestern province of Baluchistan and northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa worst hit.

Poorly-built homes, particularly in rural areas, are most susceptible to collapse during heavy spring rains. The death toll from the collapse of a coal mine shaft in northwest Pakistan rose to seven, with 10 injured.

Officials said the rescue at the mine in the far-flung mountainous Orakzai tribal district ended Monday morning after 16 people were saved.

“The rescue operation has ended and we have seven people dead, 10 injured while 16 others have been rescued from the mine,” Zubair Khan, a top government official in the district, told AFP.

More than 30 miners were trapped after the shaft collapsed amid heavy downpours on Sunday.
