Ahmed Shehzad Confirmed For T20 World Cup 2016

Ahmed Shehzad has replaced Khurram Manzoor at the World T20 2016 as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sent a final squad list to the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday.

“Ahmed has been asked to submit his passport for the World T20, reported a PCB Official to Express Tribune.

His inclusion in the World T20 side has been made official now.

Khurram Manzoor has been dropped for the forthcoming tournament starting tomorrow, after giving a disappointing performance in the Asia Cup T20 2016. He scored merely 11 runs in 3 innings of the tournament.

The disastrous performance of the top order in Asia Cup T20 2016, especially Khurram Manzoor, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to reconsider their decision of not including Ahmed Shehzad in the World T20 squad.

Ahmed Shehzad has made 941 runs in T20 International. The right-handed batsman is closing in on 1,000 T20I runs.

Let’s hope his inclusion in the team brings some stability in the top order.

Pakistan has been placed in the Super 10 (Group 2) along with  the hosts India, as well as Australia, New Zealand and Qualifier 1, the Asia Cup runners-up Bangladesh.

Pakistani team will be playing their first match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on March 16th.

‘Zootopia’ Sets Record Opening For Disney Animation Studios

zootopia

Disney’s “Zootopia” bounced its way to $73.7 million in its US opening weekend, a record-setting box office debut for Disney Animation Studios, industry estimates showed Sunday.

The film about intrepid rabbit police officer Judy Hopps who works with a fox to solve a crime in the Zootopia animal kingdom topped the $67.4 million opening weekend take for  2013 Disney blockbuster “Frozen.”

Analysts said Zootopia was helped by very positive reviews as well as the relative lack of other family films currently in theaters.

Action thriller “London Has Fallen” was a distant second, earning $21.7 million in its opening weekend, according to the estimates from industry tracker Exhibitor Relations said. Directed by Iranian-Swedish filmmaker Babak Najafi and starring Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, and Morgan Freeman, the film is the sequel to 2013’s “Olympus Has Fallen.”

“Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” was in fourth place after its opening weekend, earning $7.6 million. The comedy starring Tina Fey was based on Kim Barker’s memoir of being a female war reporter in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Falling from the second spot to fifth, “Gods of Egypt,” which also stars Butler, took $5 million in its second week. With a production budget of $140 million, it was on track to be the year’s first flop.

Rounding out the rest of the top 10 were:

— “Risen,” $3.9 million

— “Kung Fu Panda 3,” $3.6 million

— “The Revenant,” $3.3 million

ICC World T20 2016: India Eyes World T20 Crown

India-eyes-t20-crown

Hosts India are favourites to clinch the sixth edition of the World Twenty20 in what could be a fairytale ending to the glittering career of captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

India, ranked number one in the world, will seek to become the first side to win the International Cricket Council (ICC) title on home soil when the 16-team tournament gets under way on Tuesday.

They are also gunning to become the tournament’s only two-time winners, with South Africa, Australia and the mercurial West Indies shaping as leading threats.

India-eyes-t20-crown

Australia, the top-ranked Test side, are desperate to win their first WorldTwenty20 crown while Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir will play his first ICC tournament since returning from a five-year spot-fixing ban.

India comes into the tournament on the back of an eight-wicket win over Bangladesh in the Asia Cup final, and have several key batsmen and bowlers in form.

“We are on track for the World T20,” a confident Dhoni said after Sunday’s victory.

India’s hot streak of 10 wins from their last 11 T20 internationals, coupled with their vast and boisterous home support means Dhoni’s men will be tough to beat.

“I think India will win. Their players know the pitches and they’re playing good cricket against the best teams in the world at present,” said West Indies legend Brian Lara.

India also has an added incentive to lift the trophy on April 3 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata because of the fact that the tournament may mark Dhoni’s swansong.

ICC T20 World Cup 2016: Schedule & Match Fixtures

Dhoni, who led India to the inaugural title in 2007, has struggled with the bat of late and turns 35 this summer. A second World Twenty20 crown would be a fitting end to the wicketkeeper’s career.

A treat to watch

In-form batsman Virat Kohli and deadly off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin are expected to be the key men for India, who are hosting the championship for the first time.

The home side started their campaign against New Zealand on March 15 before playing arch-rivals Pakistan in Dharamsala four days later in a hotly awaited clash.

Pakistan endured a disastrous Asia Cup, thanks largely to some atrocious batting, and any hopes they have of making an impression will rely on the performances of the controversial Amir.

The 23-year-old fast bowler was banned and jailed for deliberately sending down no-balls in a Test match against England in 2010.

But he has been in good touch since re-entering the international fold earlier this year and lit up the Asia Cup with a devastating 3-18 spell in Pakistan’s loss to India.

ICC T20 World Cup Twenty20 2016: Logo, Schedule & Qualifiers

“The way he bowled… it didn’t look as if he was making a comeback after five long years. It was a treat to watch,” former Pakistan captain and now Afghanistan coach Inzamam-ul-Haq told AFP.

Second-ranked South Africa are hoping to spoil India’s party and come into the tournament full of confidence following a T20 series whitewash against England.

The Proteas have never won the World Twenty20 but anything less than the final will be considered a failure for the Faf du Plessis-led side, who boast top run-scorers AB De Villiers and Hashim Amla and leg-spinner Imran Tahir.

Defending champions Sri Lanka is a shadow of the side that won in Bangladesh two years ago and have struggled to come to terms with the void left by legends Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.

The West Indies’ tilt at a second title has been hit by injury withdrawals and a bitter pay dispute with squad members arguing with the country’s board over fees to play in the tournament.

Experienced batsman Darren Bravo, all-rounder Kieron Pollard and off-spinner Sunil Narine are all out but it would be unwise to write off the third-ranked Windies, especially when they boast the big-hitting Chris Gayle.

The preliminary round starts on Tuesday, with Afghanistan and Bangladesh favourites to join the big eight teams in the Super 10 group stage.

In Tuesday’s opening matches, Hong Kong take on Zimbabwe and Afghanistan play Scotland.

India Wins 1st Asia Cup T20 2016 Title

India-wins-Asia-Cup-2016

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan scored a swashbuckling fifty to help his side crush Bangladesh by eight wickets and clinch the Asia Cup Twenty20 cricket title on Sunday.

Dhawan, who made just 19 in his previous three innings, smashed 60 off 44 balls guiding India to 122-2 in 13.5 overs after Bangladesh notched up 120-5 in a rain-drenched pitch.

The match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka was reduced to the 15-over-a-side affair after storms delayed the start of play for two hours.

Dhawan and Virat Kohli, who scored 41 not out, put on 94 runs for the second wicket partnership.

Bangladesh’s Al-Amin Hossain made an early strike to remove Rohit Sharma, who edged a catch to Soumya Sarkar, but Dhawan and Kohli denied any further breakthrough with sublime batting.

Taskin Ahmed ended Dhawan’s innings in his second spell as Soumya again took a brilliant low catch at point, but it was too little too late for the home team.

Dhawan hit nine fours and a six while Kohli struck five fours.  Indian skipper MS Dhoni, 20 not out, hit two sixes and a four in Al-Amin’s final over to complete the victory.

ICC World T20 2016: Pakistan To Send Security Team To India

“Thanks to the top-order batsmen, they have done the bulk of the job,” Dhoni said after the match.

“We are on track for the World T20,” he added, referring to the Twenty20 WorldCup beginning in India next week.

It was India’s sixth Asia Cup title — although their previous winning meets were all held in the old 50-over, one-day international format.

Earlier, an in-form Mahmudullah struck an unbeaten 33 off 13 balls to give Bangladesh what looked like a fighting score on a wet pitch.

Mahmudullah, who struck two fours and as many sixes, put on 45 runs in an unbroken sixth wicket stand with Sabbir Rahman.  Sabbir anchored the innings with an unbeaten 32 off 29 balls.

Batting first, Bangladesh made a positive start as Soumya and Tamim Iqbal gathered 27 runs in the opening partnership.

Indians Ashish Nehra and Jasprit Bumrah struck in back-to-back overs to dismiss Soumya (14) and Tamim (13), but Shakib Al Hasan ensured Bangladesh did not lose their way.

Shakib made 21 off 16 balls with three boundaries, before an attempted slog sweep off Ravichandran Ashwin brought an end to his innings.

Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim was run out for four and skipper Mashrafe Mortaza followed him in the next ball, giving Kohli a catch at deep midwicket off Ravindra Jadeja.

The 30-year old right-hander, who was unbeaten in his previous three innings in the tournament, hit Hardik Pandya a four and two sixes to score 19 runs in the penultimate over.

Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe praised his team-mates for their effort.

“We couldn’t win the final but congratulations to the boys for making it this far,” he said. “They played really well.”

ICC World T20 2016: Pakistan To Send Security Team To India

T20-Lead

Pakistan said Saturday it would send a security team to India next week to survey the situation on the ground before the country’s cricket squad travels to play against their arch-rival during an upcoming India-Pakistan World T20 tie.

The teams are set to square off in India’s Kolkatta, Dharamsala and Mohali during the World Twenty20’s first round that kicks off on March 8 and ends on April 3.

Islamabad has already voiced concerns about security in India, saying there were specific threats from Hindu activists who forced the cancellation of a meeting between cricket officials from the two countries in Mumbai last October.

“A three-member security team will depart for India on Monday to look into the security situation,” Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told a press conference in Islamabad.

T20-Lead

“Our team will be sent to India only if the initial report is positive,” the minister added.

The South Asian adversaries have not played a bilateral series for more than three years amid diplomatic tensions.

Those were worsened by a January attack on India’s Pathankot airbase, which came days after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surprise peacemaking visit to Pakistan in December.

Pakistan‘s team is scheduled to leave for India next week; however, the interior minister said the trip could be delayed if conditions on the ground are found to be unsatisfactory.

“It will make no difference if we have to delay the team’s departure until we get a clear message that India is safe for our team,” said Khan.

“People of Pakistan want their team to take part in the T20 but at the same time we cannot remain oblivious to the threats being hurled out by extremist organisations in India.”

Popular Smartphone App Fails To Measure Blood Pressure: Study

A popular smartphone app that claims to measure blood pressure is highly inaccurate and may mislead users about their health, said a US study Wednesday.

Known as Instant Blood Pressure, the app has been downloaded more than 100,000 times and is still operational though it is no longer available for purchase, said the study by researchers at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

The app claims to accurately measure blood pressure “by placing a cellphone on the chest with a finger over the built-in camera lens,” said the study.

Instant Blood Pressure app
However, it “misses high blood pressure in eight out of 10 patients, potentially putting users’ health at risk,” said the study involving 85 volunteers, and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Internal Medicine.

Aspirin Lowers Risk Of Cancer: US Study

The app, which was available for $4.99, was removed from the Apple store in August 2015 for reasons that are unclear, said the study.

“Because this app does such a terrible job measuring blood pressure, it could lead to irreparable harm by masking the true risk of heart attacks and strokes in people who rely on the accuracy of this information,” said Timothy  Plante, a fellow in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

The study said the best way to measure blood pressure is by “inflating a cuff, attached around the brachial artery in the arm, to detect the force of blood flowing when the heart is beating and at rest.”

Either a machine or a medical professional should take the measurement based on the cuff reading.

“We think there is definitely a role for smartphone technology in health care, but because of the significant risk of harm to users who get inaccurate information, the results of our study speak to the need for scientific validation and regulation of these apps before they reach consumers,” said Plante.

7 Reasons To Watch Dillagi Drama ft. Mehwish Hayat & Humayun Saeed

‘Jawani Phir Nahin Aani’ trio – Mehwish Hayat, Humayun Saeed, and the director Nadeem Baig are back – however this time around their reunion is for ARY Digital’s romantic television serial ‘Dillagi’. The promos of the drama serial have already been out creating quite a buzz with a scintillating romance between Humayun Saeed and Mehwish.

Brandsynario caught up with the lead cast and directer recently at a special blogger meet-up with the cast and crew of Dillagi.

The event, as usual, started fashionably late but once our stars reached the spot, it was worth the wait. Written by Faiza Iftikhar of Aunn Zara fame, the drama was directed by JPNA director Nadeem Baig. The ensemble cast includes Humayun Saeed, Mehwish Hayat, Imran Ashraf, Saba Hameed, Maryam Ansari, Uzma Hassan and model turned actor Zain.

dillagi

Although only a few teasers of the drama were revealed on television so far but at the event, we got to know a lot more about the serial than whatever shown on television.

Watch the promo below:

Here are a few reasons to look forward to Dillagi.

1. Nadeem Baig’s Direction

The drama is a brainchild of Nadeem Baig. He has always carved a niche for himself by introducing new concepts in dramas – be it Takkay ke Ayegi Barat series on Geo TV, Pyaray Afzal on ARY Digital and a blockbuster film Jawani Phir Nahi Aani, he has several successful projects under his belt.

In this serial once again he tried to push the envelope with an unusual treatment of a touching story.

“I had this story in mind almost a year ago and it’s very close to my heart. Right now, I can only tell you that it is a romantic tale but once it will air on television then only you will be able to know how it is different from many other run-of-the-mill scripts,” the director said.

2. Another masterpiece by Faiza Iftikhar

The playwright Faiza Iftikhar’s name is synonymous with several successful plays including Roag, Akbari Asghari, Bilquees Kaur, Zindagi Dhoop Tum Ghana Saya, Aunn Zara and Ik Naye Cinderella. This show is indeed another great effort and the drama cast was all praised for her.

Ace actress Saba Hameed while talking about her role said the writer had added a lot of depth to it with her brilliant craft.

“Faiza is undoubtedly the finest writers of modern times and she takes the play to another level with her brilliant writing. I must say that I am all praises for her,” she said.

And with new look new vigour we start yet another serial❤️

A post shared by sabahamid_21 (@sabahamid_21) on

The drama lead actor Humayun Saeed also admired the writer for jotting down an interesting script.

Nadeem had a particular scene in his mind and when we explained Faiza that scene she developed a complete story around it – it was not an easy task and I really appreciate her tremendous efforts,” he said.

3. superb portrayal of rich culture of interior Sindh

Some exclusive footage was shown at the bloggers’ meetup, which gave a little more insight to the serial. Set in the interior Sindh, the serial beautifully depicts the local life of interior Sindh.

#dillagi#outstanding#script#cast🌹

A post shared by sabahamid_21 (@sabahamid_21) on

Saba Hamid’s role is, of course, something to look forward to – dressed up in colourful attires with big gold earning and pierced nose she ruled the screen like a typical Sindhi wadera’s wife.

“It has been really a long time when I have done something like this – I played a powerful lady in the house who believed in equal treatment of women. To get into the role, I wore those churi dresses and antique jewelry besides adopting the particular accent for the serial,” she said.

4. It’s all about women empowerment

It is a sheer delight to finally watch a serial which doesn’t show a woman like a typical damsel in distress. Rather the ladies of Dillagi come out as an independent being who can take decision for themselves.

I personally loved the part where Mehwish Hayat was shown beating the guy in a market. In another scene, Saba Hameed told her son that if he ever slapped his wife then he should be ready to face a similar treatment from the wife too.

“One of the reasons I opted for serial was that it talked about women empowerment. Through this drama we have made a small effort to change the current momentum of serials on television which highly titled towards in projecting girls as a bechari and helpless creature,” Saba Hameed said.

5. Humayun Saeed ‘Lady Killer’ once again shines as the romantic hero

After watching the promos, we thought Humayun Saeed played a gangster who loved talking about guns and deadly weapons but the actor said his role had much more than just be a bad boy in the serial.

“In promos we have given a certain twist by projecting our hero as a bad man but in fact, he is a true lover and drama features his tale to win over his love,” he said.

#Repost @karachista1 with @repostapp ・・・ Classic #HumayunSaeed pose – at the #Dillagi intro #PakistaniDrama

A post shared by Humayun Saeed (@saeedhumayun) on

6. The headstrong Mehwish Hayat

It has been a long time since Mehwish Hayat has done any serial. Her last drama was Hum TV’s Ru Baru where she had a small role of hero’s mother and after it, she did two films Na Maloom Afrad and Jawani Phir Nahin Aani.

In Nadeem Baig’s Dillagi she plays a headstrong girl who never hesitates to follow her will. While talking about her role she said it showed her as a confident girl of modern times who values her family traditions and boldly faces the challenges of life.

“In the first episode, we’ll show the real reason behind her confident persona. She considers her father the biggest idol in her life who always teaches her to face the difficulties of life with courage and determination,” she said.

7. The wonderful supporting cast

The drama also stars Imran Ashraf, Maryam Ansari and newcomer Zain in important roles. We also talked to them to get to know more about their roles in the drama.

The famous Ashar Bhai of Gul-e-Rana will play a close ally of Humayun Saeed in the serial. He told us about his role in the serial.

“Dillagi is a great addition in my career where I get to learn a lot about acting from Nadeem Baig and I got the most humble superstar of Pakistani showbiz industry and he is none other Humayun Saeed.  In this serial, I have played a guy which stood by his master, Humayun Saeed, throughout the serial,” he said.

Maryam Ansari while talking about her role said that the director explored an undiscovered side of her personality through this serial.

“I played a bubbly fun loving girl in the serial and no one has never shown this side of personality on television. I am glad Nadeem sb has given me a chance to come out of my comfort zone and do something great on television,” the actress said.

The drama also features model turned actor Zain in the serial.

“It was my first serial and I was quite excited as well as nervous but it was excellent support from director and co-actors that I did it with ease,” he said.

We wish Dillagi team all the best and desperately wait for it to kick off soon.

Consumers Prefer Paying With Credit Cards Over Smartphones

As Google gears up to launch its digital wallet service, Android Pay in the UK, many experts are still less than convinced that the idea of replacing a credit card with a smartphone is really going to gain mainstream consumer appeal.

According to Juniper Research, by the end of 2016, 148 million people around the world will be reaching for their handsets to make payments at in-store point of sales (POS) terminals.

In its latest white paper, “Contactless Payments: ‘NFC Handsets, Wearables & Payment Cards 2016-2020,” the research firm highlights that one-in-five POS terminals in the US now supports NFC (one of the technologies that facilitate payments by smartphones) and points to Apple as a catalyst for consumer interest in the technology. When Apple Pay went live in China in February, 40 million cards were added to the system in just 24 hours.

Samsung Pay is now available for Wells Fargo customers in the US

However, registering cards and using them via a handset are not the same thing.

Apple Pay has been live in the US for 18 months and Samsung Pay and Android Pay for a little over six months. Yet, according to research from Crone Consulting, just 12 million consumers regularly use Apple’s mobile payment system while 5 million use either Samsung Pay or Android Pay.

This means that so far, just 22 million Americans have made the switch from physical to virtual wallets.

And this is despite the fact that Samsung Pay has a distinct advantage over other systems, as it works with any type of POS terminal, new or old. Or the fact that the systems, although competitors, all have one thing in common — they’re mores secure than traditional magnetic swipe credit cards.

On Tuesday, Samsung announced that Wells Fargo Bank had become the latest financial institution to support its mobile payments technology. That means that 70% of America’s credit and debit card market is Samsung Pay compatible.

In Europe, where all three companies are now turning their attention, NFC credit and debit cards are already popular, allowing consumers to tap to pay for small purchases, and existing cards are much more secure, requiring a type-in PIN number for larger transactions.

Therefore, how UK consumers — considered the most tech savvy in mature markets — embrace the technology will highlight if the services are the shape of the future or simply a fad.

World’s Most Expensive Train Station To Open At NY’s 9/11 Tragedy Site

Train-station-lead

New York on Thursday opens the most expensive train station in the world, on the site of the World Trade Center destroyed 14 years ago in the 9/11 attacks.

Twelve years in the making, there will be no official ceremony to mark the 3 pm opening to rail commuters of the World Trade Center Transportation Hub next to the site of the Twin Towers, which were destroyed in the Al-Qaeda hijackings.

The center connects the PATH commuter rail to New Jersey with New York subway lines, provides indoor pedestrian access to the Trade Center towers and will also house an enormous shopping and restaurant plaza.

The building, designed by Spanish-Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava and called Oculus, is a giant oval made up of steel ribs and glass laid out in elliptical shape, reaching for the sky like wings of a bird.

The space measures 350 feet (107 meters) long by 115 feet (35 meters) at its widest point, according to Calatrava’s website.

Thursday is only a partial opening and the shops are slated to open in August. In the 12 years since the project was unveiled, it has been heavily criticized — for its appearance but also for spiraling so drastically off budget and closing seven years behind schedule.

Initially budgeted at $2 billion, it has spiraled to $3.85 billion according to a spokesperson in Calatrava’s office, which would make it the most expensive station in the world.

In contrast, the temporary station which was built straight after September 11, 2001, attacks cost just $323 million.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey admitted in a report published in 2008 that the original cost estimate was “too low to begin with” but stressed the advantages it would afford the city.

It said that when completed, the transit hub will serve 250,000 people and more than 200,000 commuters each day, making it the third-largest transportation center in the city.

milk

The national representative of the milk business and the administration decided to stagnate the milk price at Rs. 80 per litre after a mammoth session of holding talks, reports ARY news on Thursday.

The local dairy farmer representatives, retailers and milk wholesalers decided in a collaborative meeting with the Karachi Commissioner to resolve the long dispute over the price of milk in the domestic market.

The two parties reached an agreement after a 14-hour long meeting, to fix the per litre milk price at Rs. 80.

The milkmen demanded a price of Rs. 84 per litre but the domestic officials insisted on stagnating the commodity price at Rs. 72 per litre.

After long and exhaustive talks amongst the two sides, a consensus was reached at the Rs. 80 per litre price. Previously, the retailers of milk started selling milk at Rs. 90 per litre; an inflated price.

After the decision, the local administration ordered an action to be taken against the shopkeepers who were selling milk at the inflated price.

His second Oscar for Life of Pi also very well deserved, as it was the first time a real animal was used against the digital one. A team of 15 people were dedicated to creating just the fur by placing and combing all 10 million hairs on his body.

In the interview, Ali said that even after winning two Oscar awards for visualization, he had to sit at home, as there is no job security in the United States.

He disclosed that after facing some ups and down, he was offered a job at Disney for Frozen. “The timing worked out perfectly for me,” he said.

Noori Releases ‘Pinjra’ Video From Begum Gul Bakaoli Sarfarosh

Noori has released the latest video from their album Begum Gul Bakaoli Sarfarosh. Pinjra is the second single to be released from the album; the song is about the shackles that bind us in this world and asks God to free us from the chains of our blinded un-examined beliefs.

Pinjra explores the imprisonment of humans on this earth with their fears and their greed for self proclaimed righteousness. Pinjra is about the journey of letting go.

Directed by Mandana Zaidi, the video is set in a cage in which the imprisoned band hides behind a mask of fame, success and stardom. They are struggling to liberate themselves from the facade that has become their reality. The artists seek inspiration from Begum Gul Bakaoli who has left everything behind and has set on her journeys towards freedom.

Speaking about the song Ali Noor of noori said “The song is about how one’s dogmas become his/her own Pinjras: Dogmas are not made by God, man makes dogmas and this way man uses God as an excuse to control other people [..] and they do so by making them believe that they have to sacrifice and be in fear all the time. That’s the theme of the song and the video is pretty self-explanatory, when you start becoming so dogmatic you almost become a clown”

The video release also marks the launch of the BGBS Experience where Noori will share with their fans the ethos of “Begum Gul Bakaoli Sarfarosh”. The different concept, depictions and ideas behind the album will be revealed in the form of visuals, words and most importantly through music.

Noori will be interacting with the fans who will become “Friends of Noori” and be part of the Noori family. The BGBS Experience is all about the concept behind the album and the journey begins will the release of Pinjra.

Noori will be performing during the month of March in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, Kicking off with the Pinjra Celebration Concert at the BNU Bestival on 4th March.

Urmila Matondkar’s Secret Wedding Pictures!

B-Town stars are more into ringing wedding bells away from public eye. After the hype of Preity marrying Gene Goodenough and Rani Mukherjee and Aditya Chopra getting married secretly, it was Urmila Matondkar who tied the knot with male model Mohsin Akhtar Mir in Mumbai on Thursday evening.

According to the reports, the Rangeela heroine Urmila and Kashmiri based businessman and model Mohsin met each other at designer Manish Malhotra’s niece Rridhi’s wedding in December 2014. Mir is 10-years-older than the actress, but they seem to fit right for each other.

Urmila and Mir

Urmila, while speaking to the Indian media revealed that both she and her husband wanted to keep the wedding quiet, just for close friends and family members, whereas our families also wanted a low-key wedding.

“We seek your blessings on embarking this new journey of our lives,” she said.

Urmila is very well known for her diversified roles in Rangeela, Satya, Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya whereas Mir appeared as a male prostitute in filmmaker Saurabh Sengupta’s A Man’s World. He also did a small role in Zoya Akhtar’s film Luck.

Mir, on the other hand, has also done in-house fashion shows for Manish Malhotra. Mir currently owns a Kashmiri Embroidery business.

New York Museum Lets Children Discover Muslim Culture

The United States may have seen an unprecedented anti-Muslim backlash in recent months, but one New York museum has challenged perceptions by teaching children about the wealth and diversity of Islamic culture.

The Children’s Museum of Manhattan on the Upper West Side has been turned into an indoor playground where children can touch and experiment with artifacts of Muslim culture in a vibrant, colorful exhibition.

One little girl wraps a piece of Senegalese fabric around her middle like a sarong and wriggles around. “It’s lots of fun for dancing!” she says.

Other children in her class are sorting through Turkish ceramics or inhaling the rich aroma of spices from Zanzibar.

Called “America to Zanzibar,” the exhibition focuses on culture in Muslimcommunities, not religion itself, so the tenets and practices of Islamic doctrine have been left well alone.

“We don’t interpret the religion,” said Andrew Ackerman, executive director of the museum. “It’s about the people. It’s about how people that share a common belief express it so differently,” he added.

childrens-museum-manhattan-
Children spend time in an exhibit about the Islamic world called “America to Zanzibar” at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan on February 24, 2016 in New York.

The 2016 race for the White House has been dominated by the rise of Republican frontrunner Donald Trump, a New York real estate mogul who has repeatedly bashed Muslims and advocated a ban on them entering the country.

Recent attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, California have heightened whatMuslim Americans call an unprecedented backlash in a country increasingly fearful about the risk posed by the so-called Islamic State extremist group.

Ackerman says current events had nothing to do with the decision to mount the exhibition, which has been six years in the making. His desire is to lift the lid on culture in Muslim countries that is either poorly understood in the United States or not represented at all.

“The challenge of this project is how do you represent so many different cultures,” said Ackerman. “How do you pick and choose what to show to give the biggest overview possible in a small space. That conversation was completely independent of any current events.”

One strong point of the exhibition is that it also focuses on Muslim heritage in the United States and not just on far-off countries.

Not just Syria

Children can learn about the mosque in Dearborn, Michigan, a Tajik-inspired tea house in Colorado and Senegalese fabric sold in Harlem, New York. A room is also dedicated to Muslim Americans gathering together memories, books, CDs and photographs.

“We really wanted to think about the American story, which is so much more diverse than the rest of the world,” said Ackerman, adding that New York is home to people from every Muslim country in the world.

“It’s very good. They are learning about another culture,” said second grade teacher Judith Espaillat of her class of children visiting the exhibition.

The word Muslim doesn’t mean much to Alex, one of her pupils, but he hasn’t been bored at all. During the first week of the exhibition, which opened February 13, the museum welcomed more than 13,000 visitors despite exceptionally cold temperatures.

“They want to show that this culture is normal, not crazy,” said visitor Francesca Azzariti, an Italian living in New York.

Other than fabric and ceramics, the museum devotes one room to mosques and the wealth of their architectural tradition.

The exhibition also shows contributions by Muslim thinkers to science.

“I think it’s a nice antidote to some of the other ways that people are talking about Muslim cultures, a diverse non-threatening culture rather than what is in the media all the time,” said British tourist Grania Brigden.

“It’s nice to see the other elements, the food, the colors,” she said. “Islam in Africa, Asia, it’s not just Syria.”

The exhibition will run at least a year before possibly travelling to other cities within the United States. Intended for children, it can also offer an entry point for parents too.

“There are a lot of people who don’t see themselves as museum goers but they’ll come here, because it’s for the children,” said Ackerman.

“If we can inspire curiosity as a museum, that’s what we go for.”
