Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s Studio Demolished For Orange Line Train?

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s legendary Sargam Studio will be razed to the ground to make way for the Orange Line Train at Scheme Moor Chowk located in Lahore’s Allama Iqbal Town. The saying that ‘development comes at a great cost’ stands true.

The current owner of the famous studio, Raza Shah, has been offered handsome compensation for the decision taken amounting PKR 2 million.

The studio was created in the year 1983 where the now famous qawwalis were penned and composed inside these premises. Shah, the owner, reminisced how it had been like back in the day.“I have myself seen Nusrat produce classics like Ali Da Malang and Jogi De Naal here.”

This space provided Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan with the creative refuge he needed along with serving as an institution within himself for his students.

Orange Line Metro Train Work Suspended At 11 Heritage Sites in Lahore

The studio was bought by Shah to preserve the great memories of the legendary NFAK. He said, “People from around the world approached me to purchase Sargam and many of the instruments kept here. I always told them it is out of the question.”

The co-owner of the place who is a Vice President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Cultural Wing , Altaf Bajwa hails this step as quite sad. “I am the place’s co-owner. Jiyo Shaira, Jiyo Shaira was written by me only. As a worker of PML-N, I urge the government to not do this.”

Yet, Khawaja Ahmad Hasan, the project in-charge still sided with the government’s decision. “We will also secure our heritage and renovate the studio, rest assured.”

Apple-Inc

Dig out your run-down iPhone — handsets with broken screens, cameras and buttons are now part of the Apple Store’s Reuse and Recycle program.

WhatsApp Groups Members’ Limit Expanding To 256

Multimedia messaging app WhatsApp is upping the limit on group conversations from 100 to 256 participants, if an Android update is anything to go by.

WhatsApp version 2.12.437 is thought to be a critical factor in enabling that higher group member number, but as not all users with that latest update are privy to the 256-account limit; WhatsApp appears to be rolling out the feature across its user base.

The relevant Android software update is, for now, available direct from the official WhatsApp download page, whatsapp.com/android.

WhatsApp, launched in January 2010, was bought by Facebook in February 2014

“There’s no telling if this will stick in future beta releases, or when WhatsApp will move it to the official [Android] Play Store release,” wrote Android Police, which picked up on the expanded group limit, “but at least now we know that the service is exploring options to allow for larger groups.”

As of February 1, 2016, Facebook-owned WhatsApp reported 1 billion people were using its services on a monthly basis, with the app currently available for Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, Nokia Symbian and S40, and via a web client.

PSL 2016 Can Benefit Young Pakistani Cricketers

Former Zimbabwe captain and ex-England coach Andy Flower Sunday says the Pakistan Twenty20 league can benefit the country’s budding players in the same way Indians have benefitted from their league.

The 47-year-old, who is now looking after England’s youth side and is serving as Peshawar team coach in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), said: “I think this tournament will be very good for Pakistan‘s youngsters in the way the IPL (Indian Premier League) is being very good for Indian cricket.”

“I think there are five excellent sides and we should have brilliant cricket over the next couple of weeks and we have seen a skillful performance and there is a lot of talent.”

Andy-Flower

The PSL have 69 local and 29 foreign players, with high profile names in West Indian Chris Gayle and Darren Sammy, former England batsman Kevin Pietersen and Australia’s Shane Watson.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) aims to boost the national team — currently eighth in one-day and seventh in Twenty20 rankings — and to groom some young players.

ICC T20 World Cup Twenty20 2016 Will Not Be Held in Dehli, India?

“I think it’s an interesting initiative by PCB and its important for Pakistan cricket and that it is a success. It has started successfully,” said Flower, who played 63 Tests and 213 one-day for Zimbabwe during an illustrious career.

“The PSL is absolutely a launching pad for Pakistan youngsters, some of the benefits they get by mixing with overseas players and gain from their experience and they also get confidence by sharing the same nets and dressing room,” said Flower.

He singled out Peshawar’s left-arm spinner Mohammad Asgher as a player for the future.

“The very good example is Asgher and his performance will do him a world of good,” said Flower of the spinner who has taken five wickets for just 31 runs in eight overs in his team’s two wins.

“The other factor is that the league might take away some of the myths of some of the international cricketers and allow the youngsters to understand that they are also human beings like them who are good at playing cricket and that can grow their confidence,” said Flower.

The ongoing PSL ends on February 23.

Yasir Shah Banned From Cricket For 3 Months!

Yasir-Shah

Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah has been banned for three months after pleading guilty for a failed dope test last year, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said Sunday.

Shah has been suspended from all cricket-related activities for three months after pleading guilty to breaching Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code,” the ICC announced in a statement.

Shah had provided a urine sample as part of the ICC’s random in-competition testing programme after the conclusion of the one-day international between England and Pakistan in Abu Dhabi, UAE on 13 November 2015.

“His sample was subsequently tested and found to contain chlortalidone. This is classified as a “Specified Substance” under World Anti-Doping Agency’s Prohibited List and is prohibited both in-competition and out-of-competition.”

Shah has emerged as a match-winner for Pakistan in Tests after ace spinner Saeed Ajmal lost form due to having to remodel an illegal bowling action.

Yasir Shah banned for 3 months

Shah admitted the violation and a three-month suspension has been imposed, backdated to 27 December 2015, the day when he was provisionally suspended. Shah will, therefore, be eligible to return to cricket on 27 March 2016.”

The ICC said it accepted that the doping offence had been inadvertent as the medication had been taken “for therapeutic reasons, specifically to treat his blood pressure.

Pakistani Cricketer Yasir Shah Suspended After Positive Dope Test

“He was able to satisfy the ICC through evidence and submissions prepared on his behalf by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that he had no intention to enhance his sporting performance or to mask the use of another performance enhancing substance.”

“He had, instead, mistakenly taken his wife’s blood pressure medication that was identical in appearance to his own but which contained the prohibited substance chlortalidone.”

The head of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s medical panel, Sohail Salim, said he was satisfied with the ICC decision.

“We are happy that we made a genuine reply in Shah‘s case,” Salim told AFP.

“At the time of Shah‘s suspension a lot of former cricketers, experts and doctors were giving their opinions without any knowledge and that was disturbing.”

Under anti-doping rules, Shah could have been hit with a two to a four-year ban.

Shah said he was delighted at the news.

“I am delighted and thankful to Almighty,” Shah told AFP by phone from Swani, Pakistan. “I was attending a religious congregation and was waiting for this news with bated breath.”

“The most difficult phase of my life is over now,” said Shah. “I have been bowling in the nets so as soon as I am eligible to play I will get into the groove.”

“The target, of course, is to be part of Pakistan’s tour of England where my team will need me,” said Shah of Pakistan’s tour where they play four Tests, five one-day internationals and a Twenty20 starting in July.

Shah has 76 wickets in 12 Tests. His 12 wickets helped Pakistan beat Australia 2-0 in 2014 and took 25 in a 2-1 win over Sri Lanka last year.

PSL T20 2016: Quetta Gladiators Beat Peshawar Zalmi by 3 wickets

UPDATE: Quetta Gladiators has done hat-trick of victories today in PSL T20 2016 defeating Peshawar Zalmi by 3 wickets and after sensational turns chased down 136 target on second last ball.

Gladiators outclassed Zalmis by their bowling and if Darren Sammy (48) have not rescued, they could have bowled out below 100 runs mark. At one stage they were 59-5. Muhammad Nawaz dominated again with three wickets while Umar Gul got two wickets.

Chasing 136 against Zalmi was not proved easy against their quality bowling  line up, but Kevin Pietersen stayed on crease till long for his 35 runs and guided his side to the edge of victory.

Muhammad Nawaz was awarded Man of the match.

The unbeaten teams of PSL T20 2016 by far, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators are going to clash against each other today in the 7th match of the league at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Both teams have performed par excellence in their first two matches of the league and we can expect a close finish in this contest. Peshwar Zalmi may be everybody’s favorite for this match; however, the Quetta Gladiators have shaped into a solid winning combination, showing off its talent in the field brilliantly.

quetta v peshawar.brandsynario

Peshawar Zalmi will have to get rid of the leading scorer of the league Luke Wright of Quetta Gladiators soon, who is single handedly leading the team to victory. Tamim Iqbal and Hafeez’s opening pair did what was needed in the last match and that is good news for Zalmi.

As far as Gladiators are concerned, Zalmi’s batting and bowling lineup is tougher than the previous they have faced. It won’t be easy to score against Junaid, Wahab, Asghar and Shaun Tait and similarly their bowlers will have to bowl at a tight line and length against Tamim Iqbal, Hafeez, Shahid Afridi and Darren Sammy.

A personalized Friends Day video takes selected “special moments” and places them in a montage that can be edited and shared by Facebook users. They can be found either at the top of users’ own news feeds or by clicking a “Watch Yours” button underneath another friend’s own Friends Day video post.

Facebook launched as Thefacebook.com on February 4, 2004.

PSL T20 2016: Peshawar Zalmi Beat Lahore Qalandars by 9 Wickets

Zalmi Vs Qalandars.Brandsynario

UPDATE: Peshawar Zalmi beat Lahore Qalandars with a huge margin of 9 wickets in a match that turned out to be nightmare for Qalandars in the end.

Lahore Qalandar’s got flattened by Zalmi’s bowling attack and at one stage they were 4/3 in the second over. They could not get out of the early damage done to them and wickets fell regularly. In the end they hardly dragged their total to 118-6 in 20 overs that opponents got over on the loss of only 1 wicket. Tamim Iqbal’s 55 runs not out knock was prominent in run chase with Muhamamad Hafeez’s 43.

The fifth match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) T20 is being played between Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars today in Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

For Peshawar Zalmi. it would be a greater challenge tonight as Lahore Qalandars have the potential to rise up again after yesterday’s defeat that must have intensified their hunger to win. Secondly, they have some top individuals like Chris Gayle, Umar Akmal and Dawyne Bravo and if they click, this time, they can be really dangerous. Umar Akmal might be included in the side for this match.

Pesh vs Lhr.BS

Peshawar Zalmi is said to be the best combination in this league so far with depth in batting and bowling and skipper Shahid Afridi will try to continue the winning momentum. Not sure, but the chances of this game to be a high-scoring one are high.

Players to Watch: No doubt about the master blasters Chris Gayle and Shahid Afridi will be the focus of attention. Their fans will love them to put up an impressive show by hitting sixes and fours; that’s really missing in this league.

Karachi Kings.Brandsynario

In the fourth match of PSL T20 2016, Karachi Kings will be up against Quetta Gladiators today in Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Having won their opening matches in a convincing fashion, it will be a real test of consistency in performance for both teams. As per expectations and expert opinions, it will be a close contest unlike previous one sided games we have seen so far in this league.

Quetta Gladiators was said to be slightly on the weaker side before the start of this competition, but they really stunned who underestimated them by beating Islamabad United in the season opener. They are in the game with a balanced unit, if not with the big guns. Karachi Kings has raised the bar with a thumping victory over Lahore Qalandars, but Gladiators can be a tough challenge to triumph.

It would be a treat to watch if Kevin Pietersen faces Mohamamad Amir for a couple of overs.

ICC T20 World Cup Twenty20 2016 Will Not Be Held in Dehli, India?

icc-world-twenty20-2016

New Delhi could be stripped of its status as one of the hosts for the World Twenty20 unless it receives safety clearances in a matter of days, India’s cricket board said Friday. The Feroz Shah Kotla ground is scheduled to host four matches in the tournament which begins on March 8, including a semi-final on March 30.

But local officials have so far refused to issue the stadium “no-objection certificates” which are a prerequisite for any match, as part of a dispute about the authorisation of structural additions. A report in The Hindustan Times on Friday said that the stadium had already been scratched off the tournament schedule by the International Cricket Council, which is overseeing the event.

Anurag Thakur, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), said no final decision had been taken but added that alternative hosts would be announced next week if there is no resolution to the dispute. “We have already decided on a Plan B if they fail to get the no objection certificates or any court order to host the matches,” he told reporters.

Thakur said that a swift decision was needed as tickets would have to go on sale next week. “The tickets for the event will go on sale on February 9,” he told a press conference in New Delhi where the Indian squad was announced.

A senior official in the Delhi state government told AFP on condition of anonymity that over 60 separate issues needed to be addressed before authorities could give the final green light. The Feroz Shah Kotla was allowed to stage a Test against South Africa in December but only after the Delhi High Court told the local cricket association that it must provide more documentation the next time round.

Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, which is due to stage the World T20 final on April 3, also lost its right to stage matches in the 50 over World Cup in 2011 over structural concerns.

PSL T20 2016: Karachi Kings Beat Lahore Qalandars By 7 Wickets

UPDATE: Karachi Kings beat Lahore Qalandar convincingly by 7 wickets chasing a target of just 126. Mohammad Amir of the Karachi Kings did the first hat trick of Pakistan Super League 2016.

PSL T20 2016 Opening Ceremony in UAE: #AbJhoomKeDikha

Pakistan is set to launch its first franchise-based Twenty20 league in the UAE on Thursday as its cash-strapped cricket board seeks to boost revenues and reverse the national team’s slide in the game’s shortest format.

The long-awaited first edition of the Pakistan Super League follows two previous attempts that fell through over a lack of sponsorship and the suspension of international cricket at home in the wake of a militant attack on the Sri Lankan team almost seven years ago.

With Pakistan’s once-dominant Twenty20 side sliding to a lowly seventh place in world rankings following a their recent series loss against New Zealand, organisers are keen for local talent to hone their skills alongside the world’s best players including Chris Gayle, Kevin Pietersen and Shane Watson.

Featuring 69 local and 29 foreign stars, the five-team, 24-match league will be held From February 4 – 23 across two stadiums in Sharjah and Dubai — Pakistan’s “home away from home” since the 2009 terror attack.

The teams were sold to private consortiums for a sum of $93 million across 10 years, with $200,000 salaries for top-tier players and relatively handsome paydays for middle-tier and emerging talent.

The winning side, meanwhile, will bring home $1 million. Former captain and legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram said the league was vital for Pakistan to match the fast-rising standards of other Twenty20 teams.

“Look at where Indian cricket is now because of the Indian Premier League,” he said, referring to the brash, glitzy tournament first launched in 2008 whose model has been emulated by other leading teams including Australia and the West Indies.

“By rubbing shoulders, by competing against and by sharing the dressing rooms with high profile players all the Indian players have benefitted and I envisage the same in the PSL,” added Akram, who is the bowling coach for Kolkata’s team.

“We have been struggling to match other teams,” agreed Shoaib Malik, a former captain who was part of Pakistan team which lost a Twenty20 series in New Zealand 2-1 last month.

“The PSL provides a launching pad for the future generation of players as four emerging players in each team will learn a lot which is good for the future of Pakistan cricket,” he added.

Not everyone is as optimistic, with organisers privately admitting that in order to be viable the tournament will need to return to Pakistan for the greater gate and TV revenues while rampant piracy puts a question mark over the profitability of kit merchandising.

With lower salary caps than leagues elsewhere, it will also need to steer clear of the ever-present threat of fixing that has hit its predecessor leagues in India and Bangladesh, resulting in bans for the likes of international stars Shanthakumaran Sreesanth of India and Mohammad Ashraful of Bangladesh.
