Journalist Farhan Mallick Granted Bail In PECA Case

Journalist Farhan Mallick Granted Bail In PECA Case

Journalist Farhan Mallick was granted bail on Monday in a PECA case related to alleged “anti-state” content after a Karachi court accepted an appeal against an earlier bail rejection by a judicial magistrate. His lawyer, Abdul Moiz Jaferii, confirmed the development and said the bail was granted for a surety of Rs 100,000.

Mallick, the founder of Raftar media agency, was arrested on March 20 in Karachi. He was booked under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) in a case linked to his YouTube channel, where he allegedly posted anti-state content. His arrest sparked criticism from media organisations and human rights activists.

District Judge (East) Dr Chaudhry Wasim Iqbal heard the appeal against the March 28 order by Judicial Magistrate Yusra Ashfaq, who had previously denied bail. Lawyer Jaferii also shared that a separate bail hearing related to a spoofed calls case was scheduled for 12 pm at the Malir district court.

In the spoofed calls case, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had raided a call centre in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, where employees were allegedly making fraudulent Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls to foreign nationals. They reportedly posed as representatives of Master and Visa banking systems to steal credit card data.

Raftar Media, on X (formerly Twitter), called the court’s bail decision a “small victory in a long journey” and said, “We are now headed to Malir Court with [the] legal team for the second hearing — keep making dua; hope and resilience keep us going.”

PECA and Alleged Call Centre Cases Against Mallick

Following his March 20 arrest, Mallick was given into FIA custody for four days. On March 25, he was sent on judicial remand, but the next day, FIA received five-day physical custody in the spoofed calls case.

The original FIR mentioned that Raftar TV’s YouTube channel was involved in running a campaign with anti-state videos. Mallick was charged under sections 16, 20, and 26-A of PECA and sections 500 and 109 of the PPC.

Section 26-A was recently added to the PECA law and defines fake news as any information that a person knows or believes to be false and which may cause fear, panic, disorder, or unrest. Punishment under this law can be up to three years in jail or a fine of Rs2 million, or both.

The growing criminalisation of online disinformation has raised concerns in Pakistan, especially among journalists, over the broad application of such laws.

Jason Gillespie Says Pakistan Experience Ended His Passion for Coaching

Jason Gillespie Calls Aaqib Javed a "Clown"

Jason Gillespie isn’t one to mince his words. And when the former Aussie pacer recently opened up about his short and rocky spell with the Pakistan cricket team, he didn’t hold back.

In a brutally honest chat on the Wisden Cricket Weekly podcast, Gillespie admitted something that surprised many: his time with Pakistan made him fall out of love with coaching.

“Right now, I’m not sure I’m interested in coaching full-time,” he said. “Even if Australia comes calling—no, I’m not interested.”

Yes, you read that right. Even a call from his home team wouldn’t tempt him back.

Back in April 2024, Gillespie was appointed as Pakistan’s red-ball head coach. A few months later, he briefly took over white-ball duties after Gary Kirsten stepped down.

Expectations were high. After all, this was a decorated cricketer stepping into a high-profile role.

But instead of growth and success, Gillespie says he was met with internal politics, communication breakdowns, and a lack of cohesion.

“The internal politics and lack of cohesion made the job untenable,” he revealed.

Gillespie’s time with Pakistan ended in December 2024—just eight months after it began. It wasn’t just the early exit that hurt. It was how things unfolded behind the scenes.

Despite leading Pakistan to a historic ODI series win in Australia, the tension and turmoil off the field left a mark.

“The Pakistan experience has soured my love for coaching, I’ll be honest. It really disappointed me how that all ended,” he admitted.

“It really disappointed me how that all ended. It’s made me question whether I want to coach full-time again,” he added.

Jason Gillespie, who’s been coaching full-time for nearly 15 years, isn’t completely walking away from the game. But he’s stepping off the grind.

“I’m open to coaching in the leagues and doing some short-term work or consultancy,” he shared. “But the grind of full-time coaching—it’s just not on my agenda right now.”

In simpler terms, the passion is still there, but not the patience, at least not for the politics and pressure that come with national team jobs.

Salman Butt Backs Babar Azam and Rizwan Amid Tough Times

changes-in-pakistan-cricket-after-t20-world-cup-2024-salman-butt-backs-babar-azam-and-rizwan-amid-tough-times

The pressure is mounting, the fans are frustrated, and the results haven’t gone our way. But in the middle of all this chaos, former Pakistan opener Salman Butt has stepped forward with a much-needed reminder: criticism is fair, but it has to be constructive.

In a chat with a digital platform, Butt urged the cricketing public to back Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, especially during this rough patch. And let’s be honest, things have been tough lately.

“It’s not about Babar and Rizwan. It is about any player in the world. It is (national team) a performance-oriented place. Those players who perform will be appreciated, and those who don’t will face criticism,” Butt said.

In other words, if you perform, you’ll be praised. If you don’t, you’ll face the heat. That’s how professional sport works. But the key point Butt made? The criticism shouldn’t get personal.

“The criticism should be constructive. It shouldn’t be that you just come at someone and start picking on them,” he added.

Under Rizwan’s captaincy, Pakistan crashed out early from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, a tournament we hosted after 29 long years.

Then came the white-ball tour to New Zealand. The result? A 4-1 loss in T20Is and a 3-0 whitewash in the ODIs. Babar Azam showed some fight with a couple of fifties, but the team just couldn’t turn the tide.

No one’s denying that the performance hasn’t been up to the mark. But as Salman Butt pointed out, these two players have carried the team on their shoulders for years.

“Babar and Rizwan have done great service for Pakistan. It is also important to highlight where they are lacking, and it is also important for them to upgrade themselves, and this is for every player in the world, ” he concluded.

Let’s face it: fans in Pakistan are passionate, sometimes too passionate. But that passion shouldn’t turn into blind rage or personal attacks. We need balance—hold players accountable, but don’t forget their past contributions.

Babar and Rizwan have had their moments—iconic knocks, match-saving partnerships, leadership under pressure. But yes, it’s also true they’ve hit a dip. That happens. Cricket is a game of form, confidence, and rhythm.

Cricketer Khushdil Shah Gets in Crowd Trouble

The rage between spectators and players overflowed at Mount Maunganui on April 5 when Pakistani cricketer Khushdil Shah became part of a post-game brawl with viewers after Pakistan’s 43-run defeat to New Zealand in the third ODI.

Verbal Abuse Sparks Confrontation

Khushdil Shah, who wasn’t included in the playing XI, was noticed agitated alongside the boundary ropes during the concluding stages of the game. A highly shared photo depicted the left-handed batter trying to approach people in the stands before being held back by security personnel to prevent further escalation of the situation.

The cricketer responded after being exposed to abusive and anti-Pakistan jeers in Pashto — allegedly by two Afghan nationals within the audience. The PCB immediately condemned the act, describing the abuse as “deeply inappropriate” and verifying that a formal complaint has been made.

Broader Tensions Between Fan Bases

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) also issued a statement confirming the incident. It said two spectators were removed after having a go at what was termed “alleged abuse of Pakistan players in a foreign language.” The statement added that Khushdil responded angrily to the taunt, and security at the ground quickly jumped in to stop any physical altercation.

The confrontation mirrors heightened tensions between Pakistani and Afghan fans, whose cricketing feud has developed political overtones in the past few years. Earlier clashes between the two sides have resulted in public disturbances, heated arguments, and online outbursts.

In the field, Pakistan’s New Zealand tour went from bad to worse. Their 43-run loss in the third and final ODI resulted in a 3-0 series whitewash — Pakistan’s sixth consecutive ODI loss to New Zealand in just two months. It followed on the heels of a disappointing Champions Trophy campaign on home turf and a 4-1 T20I series loss in New Zealand.

Calls for Better Crowd Management and Support

Pakistan’s mediocre performance has stirred concerns regarding the leadership of the team, morale levels among players, and consistency at performing on abroad tours. Khushdil’s brawl gave another layer to scrutiny over the already ailing squad, bringing forward the emotionally draining recent losses as well as criticism from outside pressure that has been inflicted upon the team.

While cricket remains a proxy battlefield for larger regional rivalries, such incidents highlight the imperative to improve crowd control, mutual respect between each other, and emotional support for those players coping with politically charged worlds.

PSL in the Crossfire: Salman Iqbal Hits Back at Ali Tareen’s Criticism

psl-10-salman-iqbal-hits-back-at-ali-tareen-criticism

Things are heating up off the field ahead of PSL 10, and it’s not just about the cricket. In a rare public spat between team owners, Karachi Kings’ Salman Iqbal has come out strongly against Multan Sultans’ Ali Tareen, who recently criticized the Pakistan Super League’s buildup to its landmark tenth season.

Ali Tareen’s Harsh Take on PSL 10

Let’s start with what triggered all this. Ali Tareen, the passionate and often outspoken owner of the Multan Sultans, went on a podcast and questioned the PCB’s repeated claims of making this PSL season the “best ever.”

“How is PSL 10 bigger and better?” Tareen asked bluntly. “Same games, same teams, same stadiums. I’m tired of these empty words.”

In his view, the lack of innovation and tangible upgrades is making the “best ever” label sound hollow. According to him, there’s too much reliance on slogans and not enough serious effort behind the scenes.

Salman Iqbal Responds – And He Doesn’t Hold Back

That didn’t sit well with Salman Iqbal, owner of Karachi Kings and President/CEO of the ARY Group. In a strongly worded social media statement, he defended the PSL, calling it “Pakistan’s pride” and a “made-in-Pakistan success story.”

He pointed out that from day one, ARY believed in PSL’s potential. Not only did they make the highest bid to own the Karachi Kings, but they also used their media platforms to build and promote the league.

“We broadcasted every draft live and uninterrupted. Later, A Sports offered the highest ever bid for PSL TV rights. Even this Ramzan, ARY dedicated its biggest show, Jeeto Pakistan, to unveil the PSL trophy,” he wrote.

psl-10-salman-iqbal-hits-back-at-ali-tareen-criticism

He praised Salman Naseer and the PCB team, urging all stakeholders to back their efforts rather than publicly tearing them down.

Salman Iqbal urged the franchise owners to show unity, recognizing the hard work that’s gone into building the PSL brand. For him, public negativity does more harm than good, especially when the league is finally finding its feet on the global stage.

“Every stakeholder, including Ali Tareen, benefits from its growth. So let’s protect what we’ve built,” Iqbal said in his closing remarks.

Korangi Fire Enters 10th Day With No Relief

Korangi Fire Enters 10th Day With No Relief
Korangi Fire Enters 10th Day With No Relief

The fire that broke out in Karachi’s Korangi area continues to burn for the 10th consecutive day as of Monday, with no sign of being extinguished. The earlier bluish flames have now turned red, signalling incomplete combustion and the release of carbon monoxide.

The blaze began on March 29 after a 1,200-foot-deep bore was drilled at the site. The cause of the fire remains unclear, and there are growing concerns about the kind and volume of the gas fuelling it.

According to sources from Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), a preliminary chemical analysis of the water that emerged from the ditch near the fire has shown the presence of dangerous chemicals. The analysis, based on water samples collected from the fire site, found high levels of benzene, toluene and tetrachloroethylene.

High Concentration of Chemicals

The initial report stated that tetrachloroethylene was present at 33 microgrammes per litre, which is much higher than the standard limit of 5mg. Benzene was found at 19mg per litre, also exceeding the acceptable threshold of 5mg. Toluene was detected at 15 microgrammes per litre, which is three times more than the recommended level. The report also noted a slightly elevated quantity of o-xylene, although it did not specify the exact amount.

However, the report mentioned that the overall hydrocarbon content in the water remained within safe limits. Authorities are also trying to find out if the chemicals detected in the samples came from toxic waste being dumped into the ground through the Malir River.

While there are companies that specialise in handling such underground fires, there has been no confirmation so far on whether the government or any relevant authorities have contacted such firms or are working on a proper contingency plan. No study has yet been launched to determine the depth or scale of the gas reservoir causing the fire.

Eid-ul-Adha 2025 Expected Dates Revealed for Pakistan

Eid-ul-Adha 2025 Expected Dates Revealed for Pakistan
Eid-ul-Adha 2025 Expected Dates Revealed for Pakistan

Eid-ul-Adha, one of the most anticipated occasions in Pakistan — especially for children — is expected to be celebrated on Saturday, June 7, 2025, according to initial predictions. However, the final date will be confirmed by the country’s official moon sighting committee following the traditional Ruet-e-Hilal procedure.

Astronomers have also shared forecasts for the UAE, where the Emirates Astronomy Society expects the crescent moon marking the start of Dhul Hijjah to be visible on the evening of May 27, 2025.

Based on these calculations, Zilhajj is likely to begin on May 28, setting the stage for Eid-ul-Adha to fall on Friday, June 6, in the Emirates.

It is important to note that such predictions offer a general timeline, as the actual dates may vary between countries due to geographical differences in moon visibility.

The Sacrifice

Eid-ul-Adha, one of Islam’s two major festivals, the other being Eid-ul Fitr, commemorates the unwavering devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.), who was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. The revelation came in a series of dreams, and although it was a great trial, Ibrahim acted on it. As Ibrahim prepared to sacrifice Ismail, God intervened, sending a ram to be sacrificed in Ismail’s place

Thus, a central ritual of the celebration is Qurbani (sacrifice), where Muslims slaughter animals such as cows, goats, sheep, or camels, following Islamic guidelines.

The meat is then distributed among family members, relatives, and those in need, reflecting the spirit of sharing and compassion that defines the festival.

The date of Eid-ul-Adha plays a key role in travel plans, animal purchases and other preparations that Muslims make well in advance. However, since the lunar Islamic calendar relies on moon sighting, the confirmed date always depends on visibility in each region.

A Chilling Reminder of what Lies Beneath the Surface

The trailer really sticks with you. Rafay Rashdi’s direction and Ayesha Muzaffar’s writing paired with powerful performances and an eerie art design, makes for a captivating experience. The visuals are gritty, the sound design is crisp, and the metaphors hit hard.

If the complete film matches the promise of the trailer, Dheemak could become a groundbreaking project for Pakistani cinema- one that would bravely address mental health and emotional struggles without sugarcoating or oversimplifying the issues.

Balochistan Govt Threatens Arrest if Akhtar Mengal Enters Quetta

Balochistan Govt Threatens Arrest if Akhtar Mengal Enters Quetta

Leading the BNP’s long march, Sardar Akhtar Mengal had promised to arrive in Quetta on Sunday, April 6, to voice opposition to the arrest of Dr. Mahrang Baloch and other leaders of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) and the purported enforced disappearances of political activists in Balochistan.

The provincial government claims that after two rounds of discussions with BNP leadership, they were asked to stage their demonstration at Shahwani Stadium in Quetta. However, the group refused, insisting on marching to the red zone of the city.

Speaking at a press conference before Saturday’s planned protest, Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind warned that any law violation would be strictly prosecuted.

“The government is showing restraint, but any attempt to breach Section 144 or provoke unrest will be met with a firm response,” Rind had stated.

Blocking the Highway

Rind threatened to arrest BNP chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal if he tried to visit Quetta on Sunday, on X.

“At six in the morning, the administration told Mengal about the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) orders, but he refused to turn himself in. They will be arrested if he enters Quetta,” Rind said, adding that police had been sent in to maintain peace.

The party’s proposal to block national roadways was also denounced by the administration, which said it was an effort to interfere with everyday life and worsen hardship for the populace. According to Shahid Rind, all district administrations have received clear orders that no highway may be closed.

Meanwhile Balochistan residents are concerned about the possible  livelihood and travel disruption following the highway blockage.

In a previous post on X, Mengal said that security forces were encircling him and his allies near Lak Pass and that a significant operation appeared to be on the horizon.

In response, the BNP responded by calling for protests throughout the region, claiming that its leaders and employees were being targeted by the current administration.

IUMS Issues Rare Fatwa Calling For Open Jihad Against Israel

IUMS Issues Rare Fatwa Calling For Open Jihad Against Israel

The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), a religious group led by important Sunni figures, has released a fatwa calling for open jihad against Israel. This comes amid the ongoing killing of Palestinians in Gaza. The group is currently headed by Ali al-Qaradaghi, who said in a statement that Muslim countries and individuals should rise against Israel and provide full support to Palestinians in military, economic and political ways.

Ali al-Qaradaghi also said, “The failure of Arab and Islamic governments to support Gaza while it is being destroyed is considered a major crime under Islamic law against our oppressed brothers in Gaza.”

The IUMS, which was previously led by Yusuf al-Qaradawi, issued a 15-point statement on Friday. The fatwa was backed by 14 other scholars. It called for all support to Israel to stop immediately. It described Israel as the “infidel enemy” for what it called the extermination of Palestinians.

The fatwa also called for a full blockade of Israel through land, air, and sea to show real support for Gaza. Al-Qaradaghi said, “It is forbidden to sell weapons to Israel or facilitate their transport through international routes such as the Suez Canal, Bab al-Mandab, the Strait of Hormuz, or any other land, sea,or air means.”

The statement asked Muslim countries to cut all diplomatic and bilateral ties with Israel, including peace agreements. It told Muslim scholars who had signed treaties with Israel to reject them and join in armed resistance.

The fatwa strictly bans the supply of oil and gas to Israel. It also urges Muslims to give financial help to Palestinians as a form of jihad. A full boycott of Israeli products and of businesses that support Israel is advised. Muslim countries are also urged to withdraw their ambassadors from Israel and place sanctions to isolate it.

Meanwhile, Israel’s military continues attacking Gaza. After a fragile ceasefire in January, Israel violated it on March 18. Since then, more than 1,250 Palestinians have been killed. The Gaza Health Ministry says over 50,523 Palestinians have been killed and 114,638 injured since October 7, 2023. Many people are walking long distances to escape the attacks, including children and the elderly.

PCB Confirms Imam’s Injury, Rules Him Out for 2 Weeks

PCB Confirms Imam’s Injury, Rules Him Out for 2 Weeks

PCB confirms Imam’s injury during the third One Day International (ODI) against New Zealand. According to the official PCB statement, “Pakistan team batter Imam ul Haq sustained a mild facial injury during batting, caused by an accidental throw from a New Zealand fielder. He was immediately attended by the medical team and shifted to Tauranga Hospital for a detailed assessment.”

The board mentioned that after being taken to the hospital, Imam underwent a CT scan of the head and face, which came back normal. Based on the evaluation by doctors, he has been diagnosed with a mild concussion.

The PCB added, “Imam is feeling better now and remains in stable condition. The specialists at Tauranga Hospital have advised a two-week rest from all sporting activities. He has also been declared fit for air travel. The Pakistan team management and medical panel will continue to monitor his recovery closely.”

The injury happened during Pakistan’s chase in the third ODI match held at Bay Oval, where the team once again failed to perform well with the bat. Chasing a target of 265 runs set by New Zealand, the Pakistani side was bowled out for 221 in 40 overs, resulting in a 43-run loss. This defeat allowed New Zealand to complete a clean sweep, winning the three-match ODI series 3-0.

This series has been disappointing for Pakistan, both in terms of performance and injuries. Imam’s injury adds further concern to the team’s preparations and player availability. The incident also highlights the risks players face during high-intensity fielding moments, even from accidental throws.

The PCB has not yet confirmed whether Imam will be available for upcoming matches following the two-week rest period, but his condition is being closely monitored by medical staff.

Trump’s Tariffs are Now Affecting Penguins

Trump’s Tariffs are Now Affecting Penguins
Trump’s Tariffs are Now Affecting Penguins

In a bizarre twist of international politics, the remote and unpopulated Heard and McDonald Islands — better known for their penguins than politics — have been placed in the crosshairs of Donald Trump’s latest tariffs.

Australia Baffled by ‘Penguin Tariff’

Situated about 4,000 km southwest of Australia, these distant Antarctic islands have not received human visitors in almost a decade. Only reachable by a seven-day boat trip from Perth, the islands feature nothing but glaciers, penguin colonies, elephant seals, and Australia’s sole active volcano, Big Ben. And yet,. somehow they are now subject to U.S. import tariffs under Trump’s new trade policy, with a 10% tariff imposed on their alleged exports.

Australian authorities were perplexed. “Poor old penguins, I don’t know what they did to Trump,” groused Trade Minister Don Farrell, terming the action a blatant error and the product of an ill-advised process. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese even went so far as to remark, “It just shows that nowhere on Earth is safe from this.”

Nature Untouched, But Not Unnoticed

Heard Island has no permanent residents. According to scientists and researchers such as University of Tasmania’s Professor Mike Coffin — who’s made the journey to its icy shores seven times — a thriving export trade is a joke. “There’s nothing there,” he said, aside from a little toothfish and icefish harvested by two licensed Australian fishing firms.

The true beauty of the islands is their untainted splendor. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, they’re among the world’s few natural ecosystems immune to alien invasion or human exploitation. Its black volcanic beaches are home to thousands of nesting penguins. Every so often, lava from Big Ben pours into the cold sea, producing steam plumes that are dramatic rather than global commerce agreements.

Wrong Data, Real Consequences

So how did these islands make it onto a U.S. tariff list? Likely due to flawed shipping data, where goods from other locations were mistakenly logged as originating from Heard and McDonald Islands.

Regardless, the inclusion has raised eyebrows and triggered diplomatic confusion. As Australia seeks clarity, one thing remains certain: even a frozen island of penguins isn’t immune to modern geopolitics.

Netflix’s Dark Anime ‘Devil May Cry’ Takes Fans by Storm

Netflix’s Dark Anime 'Devil May Cry' Takes Fans by Storm

Netflix’s new foray into animated video game adaptations, Devil May Cry, is a slow-burner shock. On the surface, the series goes heavy on aesthetics—twitchy gun battles, gothic buildings, and brooding emo soundtracks. It’s like a cutscene that’s been elongated too much, weighed down by too much exposition. The first few episodes lay out the rules of its demon-populated world in ways that labour. But when it gets going, particularly after episode 6, it has an emotional and stylistic payoff that fans did not anticipate.

Dante’s Cool, But the Story Goes Deeper

At its centre is Dante, the signature demon hunter, played by Johnny Yong Bosch. He’s witty and cocky, but just immature enough to be endearing. He’s joined by Mary, his gun-toting, strait-laced foil. They’re a standard anime couple, but the show’s real shock isn’t the banter—it’s the show’s investment in richer themes. There’s a low-burning discussion of purpose, power, and trauma that smolders beneath the stylised violence.

Devil May Cry separates itself from others by its guilt-free tone-jumping. Blood is splattered everywhere on-screen one moment, and then an ironically humorous needle drop that seems, well, slightly out of place—until it isn’t. It’s unwilling to be restrained by tonal whiplash, and, in some strange sense, this works. Its soundtrack, fully embracing its horror and emo ancestry, is effectively a love note to early 2000s anime enthusiasts.

The Real Star? The White Rabbit

Unexpectedly, it’s not Dante who captures the emotional centre—it’s the White Rabbit, the show’s initial villain. His quest to unite the demon and human realms is presented as traditional evil, but his history is full of complicated motivations. His journey becomes the emotional centre and strangely, more interesting than the main characters’. This uneven depth is both a weakness and a promise of improved character development to follow.

Devil May Cry Had Something to Say

Underneath its gaudy battles and puerile humour is a biting commentary on imperialism and power. The series addresses heavy issues—usually more gravely than its hero ever does. While the last twist is telegraphed, the finale’s dark tone and political undertones redeem it. Devil May Cry is not flawless, but it’s ambitious, it’s got attitude, and it’s got enough substance to leave viewers wanting season two.

Is ACP Pradyuman Exiting CID? Here’s What We Know

Is ACP Pradyuman Exiting CID? Here’s What We Know
Is ACP Pradyuman Exiting CID? Here’s What We Know

Daya darwaza todh do” “Kuch toh garbar hai” (*que in the hand gesture*), these were the words we grew up listening to, but unfortunately we won’t be hearing them anymore. Our beloved ACP Pradyuman is finally leaving CID. Yes, the most iconic character from India’s longest-running crime investigation show is planning his exit. Well, allegedly!

According to a report by India Today, the character will die in a bomb blast mishap in an upcoming episode. The episode has already been filmed and will air in the coming days.

Don’t worry, we are all as confused, but alas, every good thing comes to an end.

Rumours of ACP Pradyuman’s Exit: How it Started

Speculation about Shivaji Satam’s (the actor that played ACP) exit began circulating after several fan pages and entertainment tabloids hinted that the actor might be stepping away from the role due to age-related concerns and a desire to explore other projects.

Some unverified sources even claimed that the show’s producers were considering introducing a new lead to refresh the storyline.

How will ACP Pradyuman Die?

Barbosa, played by Tigmanshu Dhulia, will execute the attack on the CID team. While other members of the team will survive, ACP Pradyuman will not. And apparently, this scene has already been shot, as stated by insiders.

No Official Reports Regarding ACP Pradyuman’s Exit

As of now, there has been no official confirmation from either the show’s producers or Shivaji Satam himself regarding his exit. The show’s team has remained tight-lipped about any major cast changes.

In past interviews, Satam has expressed deep affection for his role and the show. He once stated, “ACP Pradyuman is not just a character; he’s a part of me now.” This is exactly why it is such a shock to everyone. Why would an actor leave a character he loves so much? That, too a character that played a major role in his acting career.

Impact on Fans

The mere possibility of ACP Pradyuman leaving CID has sparked a wave of reactions online. Hashtags like “#NoPradyumanNoCID” and “#BringBackACP” have trended on social media, showcasing the character’s cultural impact.

Fans fear that without the stern-yet-kind presence of ACP Pradyuman, the show might lose its essence. Many are urging the makers to retain Shivaji Satam or ensure a proper farewell arc if his departure is inevitable.

What’s Next for CID? The Legacy of 20 Years

CID has always evolved with time, introducing new officers and storylines. If ACP Pradyuman does exit, it’s likely the creators will take a careful approach to transition the story. However, replacing a character as iconic as him would be a tall order.

As of now, the exit of ACP Pradyuman from CID remains unconfirmed. Until an official statement is released, all reports should be taken with a grain of salt. One thing is certain—whether he stays or leaves, ACP Pradyuman’s legacy will live on as a cornerstone of Indian television.

Karan Johar’s ‘Kesari 2’ is Based on the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

Karan Johar’s Kesari 2 is Based on the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

Every once in a while, Bollywood comes up with its depiction of a historical event; sometimes it’s accurate, sometimes not. This time, too, it is taking us on a ride to one of the darkest chapters of Indian history, a chapter forgotten by the masses. Filmmaker Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions will be releasing Kesari Chapter 2, a movie based on a court case following the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of April 13th 1919.

The movie stars Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday and R Madhavan and is supposedly a demand for an apology for the “cold-blooded genocide” once committed by the British Raj. The apology the subcontinent never got.

Revisiting the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre is now a century old, yet we, South East Asians, refuse to forget it. This cold-blooded murder occurred during Baisakhi, a spring harvest festival, resulting in probably the bloodiest Baisakhi that has happened.

The genocide of approximately 500 to 600 people happened during the time of World War 1. It was when the colonial British empire was trying to control the growing nationalist surge in the subcontinent region.

In the Massacre, British Brigadier General Reginald Dyer opened fire on unarmed, peaceful protestors who had gathered there to celebrate the Baisakhi festival. The crowd was also peacefully protesting against the Rowlatt Act, passed by the British government, which limited civil liberties and demanded the release of two nationalist leaders, Saifuddin Kitchlew and Satyapal.

As many as 1,650 rounds of ammunition were fired on unarmed Indians on Sunday, April 13, 1919, at Jallianwala Bagh. The Bagh’s narrow entrance was blocked by 90 soldiers. Nobody, and we literally mean nobody, was spared, not even the kids, the women and the elderly.

Curfew had already been imposed in the city, so even if any of the hundreds of wounded wanted to leave after the brutal act was over, they were just not able to move out of the premises from where blood was flowing uninterruptedly. Thus, many of those who could have been saved succumbed to their injuries.

A narrow passage, which General Dyer used to make his way to the ground along with his soldiers, has been left intact with bullet marks on the walls of few structures and a well in the Jallianwala Bagh.
A narrow passage, which General Dyer used to make his way to the ground along with his soldiers, has been left intact with bullet marks on the walls of a few structures and a well in the Jallianwala Bagh.

The Movie about the Court Case Post Massacre

The film is based on The Case That Shook the Empire: One Man’s Fight for the Truth about the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. This is a book by Raghu and Pushpa Palat that explores the defamation case filed against Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair by Sir Michael O’Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of Punjab and the architect of the massacre. After the massacre, Governor O’Dwyer was strongly in support of the actions of General Dyer and declared this as a “rightful action” that needed to be done. He even made defamation allegations after Nair published a book about the atrocities committed by the British Raj in Punjab.

Even in the trailer, we can see Nair getting his face painted by the public due to the defamation plotted against him.

Karan Johar’s Comments

Discussing the historical context, Johar noted that Britain has never issued an official apology, which is tragic and ignorant. He even elaborated that the film was not to provoke anyone or celebrate anyone but was rather an expression of the lack of accountability from our Colonisers- the Colonisers we never signed up for.

“The film we made is neither driven by joy nor sorrow; it is fueled by anger”, said the director.

By bringing this dark chapter to the big screen, the film not only honours the innocent lives lost but also reminds audiences of the sacrifices that shaped India’s fight for independence. With its emotional depth, historical significance, and compelling storytelling, Kesari 2 is set to ignite conversations and leave a lasting impact on viewers around the world.

Now the main question is, how authentic will this film be in its truth? Only the film’s release will be the judge of that.
