Karachi’s Conviction Rate in Street Crime Cases Falls to 6.13%
In 2024, Karachi recorded the disposal of 1,355 street crime cases, but convictions were secured in only 83 cases. This means the conviction rate was just 6.13%, raising serious concerns about the justice system’s ability to handle increasing street crimes, The News reported.
Official records show that 1,272 cases ended in acquittals, which accounts for 93.87% of all disposed of cases. By the end of December, the backlog of pending street crime cases in Karachi courts stood at 2,921.
Comparing the situation with the previous year, things have worsened. In 2023, 2,583 cases were disposed of, with 283 convictions, resulting in a conviction rate of 10.96%. The number of acquittals in 2023 was 2,300, making up 89.04% of total cases.
A district-wise breakdown of the 2024 statistics shows variations across Karachi. District East recorded 444 disposed cases, with 42 convictions, making the conviction rate 9.46%. Malir district saw 398 cases disposed of, but only nine convictions, which is an extremely low conviction rate of 2.26%.
In District West, 219 cases were decided, with only seven convictions (3.20%) and 212 acquittals. District Central disposed of 159 cases, convicting only nine accused (5.66%) and acquitting 150 individuals. District South decided 135 cases, with 16 convictions (11.85%) and 119 acquittals.
Legal experts say the low conviction rate is due to flawed investigations, weak prosecution, and lack of strong evidence. Senior lawyer Shaukat Hayat pointed out that the three key pillars of the criminal justice system—the police, prosecution, and courts—fail to fulfill their duties.
He explained that poor investigation and improper evidence collection are major causes of acquittals. “If the investigation is conducted properly and evidence is collected, the question of acquittal does not arise,” he said.
According to him, the prosecution also fails to scrutinise charge sheets properly, which allows defense lawyers to find loopholes. He further noted that repeated court summons lead complainants to lose interest in their cases, which often results in acquittals. He also mentioned that in some cases, innocent people are wrongly implicated, weakening the case further.
Meanwhile, Karachi’s rising crime rates continue to be a concern, with incidents like the Karsaz Road accident adding to public safety worries. The Karsaz Road accident is another example of the city’s growing security and law enforcement challenges. As authorities investigate, the Karsaz Road accident highlights the need for improved legal and safety measures in Karachi.

Jack Black has formally announced his comeback for Jumanji 4, contrary to previous claims. Only recently, while promoting A Minecraft Movie, Black cast some doubt on the production of the sequel, saying he would not believe it until he set foot on set. But in a twist of fate, the actor has now disclosed that the movie is actually on, and he’s part of it.
Jack Black is Returning for Jumanji 4
A Playful Misdirection
During an appearance on the TODAY show, Black participated in a rapid-fire game where he addressed the status of several of his past films. When asked about School of Rock, he dismissed the idea of a sequel but left the door slightly open by saying, “Never say never.” However, when Jumanji came up, he responded with a confident “Highly likely,” before adding, “It’s in the works… Spoiler alert, I’m in it!”
This announcement flew directly in the face of his earlier statements, confirming that his initial pessimism was merely a good show. Prone to using his timing for comedic effect, Black even poked fun at the release date, announcing Jumanji 4 would be coming out in “Christmas 2030” before almost immediately affirming the real date: December 11, 2026.
What to Expect from Jumanji 4
Sony Pictures has gone ahead with the much-awaited sequel, which will be directed by Jake Kasdan once again. The movie will be the third in the rebooted series of Jumanji, which started with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and followed up with Jumanji: The Next Level (2019). With the franchise doing well, there are big hopes for another action-adventure comedy packed with crazy obstacles and surprise game-changers.
Plot details are kept secret, but fans will be happy to know that Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan will be joining Black once again. With the series’ unique blend of comedy and adventure, Jumanji 4 is looking to become a huge holiday hit.
Jack Black’s Busy Schedule
Even with the occasional retirement wisecrack, Black is one of Hollywood’s most working actors. He has A Minecraft Movie, out April 4, 2025, starring opposite Jason Momoa. He is also shooting a reimagining of Anaconda, where he is wedding photographer Doug McCallister.
With Jumanji 4 officially in the works, further news is imminent. The fans can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing Black’s favorite character, Professor Shelly Oberon, is coming back for another thrilling jungle ride.

Australia, West Indies to Face Off in Landmark Day-Night Test in Jamaica
Cricket fans in the Caribbean could be in for a treat this July as Sabina Park in Jamaica looks to host its first-ever day-night Test when Australia tours the West Indies. But there’s a catch—the historic pink-ball clash hinges on one key factor: floodlight upgrades.
A First for Sabina Park—If the Lights Are Ready
The third Test of the Australia-West Indies series is scheduled as a day-night match, with a 1:30 PM local time start. But since Sabina Park has never hosted a pink-ball international, everything depends on whether the stadium’s new lighting system is ready in time.
Cricket Australia has already given the green light for a day-night game, but their officials will visit Jamaica this month for a final inspection.
“The Australians have agreed for it to be a day-night Test,” said Chris Dehring in a press conference. “It is, of course, subject to the new lighting system being finished in time and meeting the required specifications.”
Why the Delay? A Battle with the Lights
The upgrade hasn’t been smooth sailing. Originally, the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) planned to have the lights installed by January. But technical challenges caused delays.
JCA President Dr. Donovan Bennett explained the situation:
“We could have gotten cheaper lights from China, but they were too heavy for the existing stands. The wind forces on the pylons would have been a major issue.”
So, instead, they opted for lights from a manufacturer in England—but that choice led to delays. Now, with the clock ticking, Sabina Park is in a race against time.
A Lucky Omen for the Windies?
For the West Indies, playing Australia in a day-night Test might actually be a good sign.
Their last pink-ball Test against Australia ended in a stunning victory. At the Gabba in 2024, Shamar Joseph’s heroics led the Windies to their first-ever day-night Test win—and Australia’s first-ever loss in such a match.
Dehring was quick to point it out: “If memory serves me right, the last time we beat Australia, it was a day-night Test. Maybe it’s a good omen!”
Australia’s Rare Visit to the Caribbean
This series will kick off the 2025-2027 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Australia will arrive in the West Indies fresh from their WTC final against South Africa at Lord’s in June.
It will also be Australia’s first Test tour of the Caribbean since 2015. That series saw Steve Smith fall agonizingly short of a double century at Sabina Park, dismissed for 199 in a 277-run win.
Final Thoughts—Will It Happen?
A day-night Test at Sabina Park would be a historic moment for West Indies cricket. But with time running out, it all comes down to the floodlights.
If the upgrades are completed, fans could witness history in the making. If not, it’s back to traditional red-ball cricket under the Caribbean sun.
What do you think? Will Sabina Park be ready in time, or is this dream fading fast?

Deadly Earthquakes Prove Baba Vanga’s 2025 Prediction Right
Baba Vanga’s 2025 prediction has already come true following a devastating global earthquake disaster in Myanmar. The fortune teller had warned of massive earthquakes in 2025, and last week, a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar and Thailand, claiming around 2,000 lives.
The Bulgarian mystic, whose real name was Vangeliya Pandeva Gushterova, lost her sight in childhood and claimed she gained clairvoyant abilities during a severe storm. Before passing away in 1996 at the age of 84, she became famous for predicting major world events such as the 9/11 attacks, the death of Princess Diana and global warming, including mass flooding.
Also known as the “Nostradamus of the Balkans,” Baba Vanga is believed to have had an 85% accuracy rate in her predictions. Even after her death, many of her prophecies continue to come true—including her warning about 2025 being the year of destructive earthquakes.
Her prediction proved to be correct once again, as Myanmar and Thailand experienced deadly tremors. Additionally, the Oceania nation of Tonga was hit by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake, leading to a tsunami warning for the Pacific Islands.
Myanmar Earthquake
Myanmar’s government has declared a week of national mourning following the disaster, while the United Nations has made an urgent appeal for £6.2 billion to support relief efforts. Reports from the BBC describe overwhelmed hospitals and a strong smell of corpses “permeating the streets.”
While Baba Vanga’s earthquake prediction has already come true, her other forecasts for the future are equally alarming. She warned of “cruel wars” and even a global “apocalypse” in the coming years. According to her, a new conflict could emerge in mainland Europe in 2025, leading to consequences that would spread across the world.
Apart from this devastating global event, another major accident has shaken Pakistan. A tragic Karsaz Road accident was reported, adding to the list of unfortunate disasters. This Karsaz Road accident has drawn attention due to the severity of the crash, making it a significant incident amid ongoing tragedies. As authorities investigate, the Karsaz Road accident has raised concerns over road safety in Karachi.

PSL 10 Anthem ‘X Dekho’ Fails to Hit the Right Notes—Fans Left Unimpressed
The much-awaited Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10 anthem titled ‘X Dekho,’ featuring Ali Zafar, Talha Anjum, Natasha Baig and Abrar-ul-Haq, was released with much hype yesterday. But instead of setting the stage on fire, it seems to have left fans divided and, in many cases, disappointed.
Too Many Stars, Too Little Impact?
This year’s anthem brought together a mix of artists—Ali Zafar, who has been the face of PSL music since its inception, rap sensation Talha Anjum, the powerful Natasha Baig, and the evergreen Abrar-ul-Haq.
While on paper, this sounds like a dream collaboration, the execution didn’t quite live up to expectations. In its first 12 hours, the anthem crossed 1 million views on Facebook and 300,000 on YouTube, which, by PSL standards, isn’t exactly record-breaking.
Fans Miss ‘Phir Seeti Bajay Gi’ Era
For many, Ali Zafar’s earlier PSL anthems—especially the 2017 classic ‘Ab Khel Jamay Ga’—remain unmatched. The energy, the lyrics, the sheer hype it created—fans argue that no anthem since has come close.
One fan summed up the sentiment perfectly:
“Even Ali Zafar himself cannot beat the level of ‘Phir Seeti Bajay Gi.’”
Some fans believe that ‘Groove Mera’ (PSL 6, 2021) remains the best anthem of recent years. Sung by Aima Baig, Naseebo Lal, and Young Stunners, it had an unexpected, spontaneous vibe that made it unique.
“Groove Mera would always be special. . . How spontaneously it started with ‘Aj wekhay ga crowd’ was some vibe,” one fan wrote.
Meanwhile, others feel that PSL keeps overloading its anthems with unnecessary elements, making them too crowded and losing the raw energy that made earlier songs click.
Too Much Rap? Too Many Voices?
Another major complaint was the inclusion of rap. While Young Stunners delivered a solid performance in 2021, many feel that rap doesn’t fit well in cricket anthems.
“Every single time, adding more stars makes it worse. What’s the role of rap in a cricketing anthem?” a fan questioned.
Others took issue with the lyrics, criticising lines like “Dama Dam X Dekho” for being meaningless.
“Yaha cricket khelni hai, X thori khelna hai!” one user joked.
While Ali Zafar has been a major part of PSL’s musical journey, some fans believe it’s time for a new voice.
“Hum tang aa gaye hain Ali Zafar se. He should take a rest and give a chance to the king of bhangra and Talha Anjum,” one comment read.
Final Thoughts—Is It Just the First Impression?
Historically, PSL anthems have had mixed initial reactions, but some grow on people over time. Whether ‘X Dekho’ falls into that category remains to be seen. But for now, the consensus is clear—this year’s anthem lacks the spark fans were hoping for.
What do you think? Does ‘X Dekho’ deserve another listen, or is it already forgotten? Let us know!

Val Kilmer, the man behind “Top Gun and “Batman Forever,” has bid us all farewell at the age of 65. The Hollywood “bad boy” was easily one of the most prominent figures in the industry, in the good and the bad way.
Cause of Death
Kilmer died of pneumonia on Tuesday in Los Angeles, as reported by his daughter Mercedes. The star said she was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, which was followed by an intense 11-year struggle. The 90’s Hollywood star had to undergo numerous challenges, which even included two tracheotomies, a procedure that permanently altered his voice.
According to medical experts, the physical toll of long-term cancer treatment can weaken the immune system. This makes patients more susceptible to infections like pneumonia. It could be one of the reasons why the actor fell victim to a mere disease like pneumonia. It was the prolonged impact of the illness that made him more vulnerable. Alas, the actor’s soul will finally get some rest.
Birth and Early Life
The 90’s superstar’s full name was Val Edward Kilmer, and he was born on 31 December 1959 in a middle-class family of Los Angeles. His parents were Christian Scientists, something Kilmer took pride in for the rest of his life.
At the early age of 17, the Californian-born born became the then-youngest pupil to enroll in the Julliard School, in New York. This was one of the world’s most prestigious drama conservatories.
Career: Iconic Val Kilmer Movies
The acting career of Val Kilmer was an iconic one. He was eager to act, and it showed. He arguably gave us the most iconic Val Kilmer movies of all time.
The Hollywood star made his film debut in the spy spoof ‘Top Secret!’ (1984) before appearing in the goofy comedy ‘Real Genius’ (1985). The actor later cemented his acting credentials as naval aviator “Iceman” Kazansky, the nemesis to Cruise’s character Maverick in 1986’s Top Gun. This was the focal point in Val’s career and was the main reason behind his rise to fame.
In 1986, Kilmer was propelled to global stardom for his role as Lt. Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky in “Top Gun.”
Kilmer then went on to star in the fantasy Willow and the crime thriller Kill Me Again – both alongside British actress Joanne Whalley, whom he married in 1988.
One of his most challenging roles came in director Oliver Stone’s The Doors (1991), in which he played the late Jim Morrison. This was the character of the charismatic and ultimately doomed lead singer of the influential rock band. In order to persuade Stone, Kilmer put together an eight-minute video of himself singing and looking like Morrison at various points in his life. All this worked out in Val’s favour, and The Doors ushered in the highest-profile years of his Hollywood career.
Tombstone, in which Kilmer played gunfighter Doc Holliday, and Heat, in which he appeared alongside Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, were also hits.
He then took over Batman’s cape from Michael Keaton for Batman Forever in 1995, which achieved box office success but mixed reviews.
The California-born, Juilliard-trained actor was one of Hollywood’s most prominent leading men in the 1990s before numerous spats with directors and co-stars and a series of flops dented his career. Over the years, Kilmer gained a reputation as temperamental, intense, perfectionistic and sometimes egotistical.
Moreover, when he took on the role of Batman, the audience didn’t respond to it well. According to critics, they didn’t like the noisy, bloated and plodding Batman Forever.’ Later on, Kilmer was pulled out of the next Batman movie. Director Joel Schumacher called Kilmer ‘the most psychologically troubled human being I’ve ever worked with.”
Things only got worse for Kilmer when he clashed with co-star Marlon Brando during the notoriously troubled production of The Island of Dr. Moreau, which flopped in 1996.
Health Struggles and Resilience
Just when the actor’s bad luck wasn’t enough, he was also diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014. The whole procedure severely impacted his health and vocal abilities, resulting in his worst nightmare. However, Val wasn’t weak at all; his resilience throughout this journey was truly remarkable.
Despite these challenges, he remained active in the industry and participated in numerous projects. He even shared his journey with the world through a 2021 documentary named “Val.” In this, he reflected on his health and stated that “I deny none of this and have no regrets, because I have lost and found parts of myself that I never knew existed.”This documentary featured 40 years of home recordings, which included him speaking with a voice box post-cancer surgery.
After years of struggle with cancer, his comeback with a cameo appearance as Iceman in the long-awaited Top Gun sequel was particularly poignant. Cruise said at the time: “I’ve known Val for decades, and for him to come back and play that character… he’s such a powerful actor that he instantly became that character again.”
Tributes and Legacy
Following the news of his passing, fans and fellow actors have taken to social media to pay tribute to Kilmer. Tom Cruise, his Top Gun co-star, expressed his sorrow, stating, “Val was an incredible talent and a dear friend. His legacy will live on forever in the hearts of fans.”
Director Joel Schumacher, who worked with Kilmer on Batman Forever, once described him as “one of the most dedicated and intense actors of his generation.” Hollywood figures, including Robert Downey Jr., Kevin Bacon and Kurt Russell, also shared heartfelt messages honouring his impact on the film industry. Even his ex-girlfriend Cher paid tribute to the actor.
Cher, who previously dated Kilmer, remembered him as a “great friend” who was “brave” during his illness.
The death of Val Kilmer marks the end of a courageous journey that inspired many with its openness and honesty. He left behind a powerful legacy of resilience and artistry. As we bid farewell to a true cinematic icon, Val Kilmer’s legacy remains intact—one of brilliance, resilience, and artistic dedication. Rest in peace, Val. You will be missed but never forgotten.

PM Shehbaz Sharif is expected to announce a cut in electricity price today (Thursday) after receiving approval from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that the prime minister would address the nation and share “good news.” He said the announcement is the result of efforts since 2022 and assured that the government remains focused on national service, development, and economic recovery.
In a separate development, sources revealed that PM Shehbaz will meet top business figures in Islamabad. The meeting will include cabinet members and 336 business tycoons. The prime minister will brief them on reforms in the power sector.
Last month, the federal government formally requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to reduce electricity prices by Rs1.71 per unit. The cut will be managed by increasing the tariff differential subsidy. The proposed reduction will apply to all distribution companies, including K-Electric, from April to June 2025. Lifeline domestic consumers will not be affected.
Nepra has scheduled a hearing on April 4 to review the request of PM Shehbaz. If approved, the government will provide a subsidy of Rs1.71 per unit during this period. The goal is to lower prices for three months and increase electricity demand.
The IMF had earlier approved a reduction of Re1 per unit in electricity tariffs. The relief will be given to all consumers and funded through revenue from levies on gas-based captive power plants.
A government source disclosed that officials initially planned an Rs8 per unit reduction, but the IMF did not approve it. However, Pakistan will receive $1.3 billion under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) once the IMF’s Executive Board gives final approval.

Ex-Police Officer Accused of Kidnapping and Extortion
A former police officer, Rehan Khan, kidnapped, tortured and extorted money from a Pakistani businessman based in the UAE, according to the victim, Sajjad Ahmed. He claimed Rehan and his accomplices stopped him in Rawalpindi, took him away by force, and stole his money and valuables.
Ahmed said he was returning to his residence when a group of men intercepted his vehicle near Lake View Junction. Rehan, dressed in a police uniform, was with three others in plain clothes. They pretended to check his documents, verified his paperwork and weapon licence, but still forced him into a car and started beating him.
The men took Ahmed to a two-storey house, where the torture continued. He told the police that Rehan made him transfer Rs 50,000 to his account and took Rs 70,000 in cash. They also stole 4,500 dirhams, a MacBook, perfumes, a 30-bore pistol with its licence, gift boxes, and the original vehicle registration documents. After robbing him, they left him at the same location and threatened him.
Ahmed immediately reported the crime. Rawalpindi CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani ordered swift legal action, leading Rawat police to register a case against Rehan and four accomplices for robbery, illegal confinement, and impersonating a public servant.
A police spokesperson confirmed that Rehan lost his job three months ago due to prolonged absenteeism and no longer had any ties to the department. He assured him that the police were investigating and would arrest the suspects soon.
Despite these claims, Ahmed remains frustrated. He said Rehan’s phone numbers are still active, and he keeps pressuring him to “settle” the matter. He questioned why the police officer had not arrested Rehan yet.

President Zardari’s health condition is under strict medical supervision to ensure a stable recovery.
Dr Hussain assured the public that a dedicated medical team is closely monitoring his condition and providing round-the-clock care. “The medical team is ensuring proper observation to manage his condition effectively,” he said. Zardari was initially in Nawabshah but was later moved to a private hospital in Karachi after reporting health issues. Mobile Internet Services Suspended Again in Quetta
Mobile internet services have been suspended once again in Quetta, causing inconvenience for users across the city. Authorities have not provided any explanation for the latest disruption, which comes just days after a previous outage.
The recurring mobile internet services suspensions have left residents frustrated, especially during the Eid holidays when communication is essential. Many rely on mobile internet for work, staying in touch with family, and accessing important services. The sudden shutdowns create difficulties for businesses, students, and emergency responders who depend on stable connectivity.
In recent months, Balochistan has seen an increase in militant attacks. Security forces remain on high alert, and restrictions on night-time travel for passenger vehicles are still in place. In March, armed assailants targeted the Jaffar Express, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region.
While officials have not linked the internet suspensions to security concerns, many believe they are related. The government has previously restricted mobile services in different parts of the country to curb militant activities and prevent the spread of misinformation. However, these measures also impact ordinary citizens who rely on digital access for daily activities.
Local businesses, particularly online services and delivery platforms, have reported losses due to the frequent disruptions. Many students preparing for exams also struggle without internet access. Residents have urged the authorities to find alternative solutions that ensure security without affecting their daily lives.
Despite repeated suspensions, the government has not announced any clear policy or timeframe for restoring mobile internet services. Citizens are demanding greater transparency and a permanent solution to avoid future disruptions.

A ceremony was held for the dispatch of aid, attended by Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, along with officials from NDMA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ambassador of Myanmar.
Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry stated that, in line with the Prime Minister’s directives, Pakistan will send a total of 70 tons of aid to Myanmar. He reassured that Pakistan stands with the people of Myanmar during this difficult time.
A message of sympathy was also conveyed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the people affected by the earthquake.
Expressing appreciation, the Ambassador of Myanmar thanked Pakistan’s government and people for their support and recognized the country’s efforts in providing assistance. To further help the victims, an additional 35 tons of relief supplies will be sent soon as part of the second shipment.
Meanwhile, Myanmar has declared a week of national mourning starting Monday, as the death toll exceeded 2,000 and hopes of finding more survivors decreased. As part of the mourning, national flags will remain at half-mast until April 6 in remembrance of those who lost their lives.
The ruling junta has also announced a moment of silence on Tuesday at 12:51 pm, the exact time the 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck. People have been urged to pause and pay tribute, while media broadcasts will halt to display mourning symbols. Special prayers will be held in temples and pagodas across the country.

Myanmar Earthquake: Over 1,000 Killed, Rescue Efforts Ongoing
A 7.7-magnitude Myanmar earthquake on Friday caused widespread destruction and killing at least 1,000 people. The powerful earthquake, which struck near Mandalay, also affected Thailand, where many remain trapped under rubble.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), this is Myanmar’s strongest earthquake in over a century, and the death toll could exceed 10,000 based on early projections.
Myanmar’s state broadcaster, MRTV, confirmed the casualties on Saturday, reporting that collapsed roads and power outages were hindering rescue efforts. The situation is further complicated by the ongoing civil war since the 2021 military coup, making disaster response extremely difficult.
A Mandalay resident told CNN that her grandmother was trapped under debris when their home partially collapsed. “It hit very hard and very quickly,”she said, adding that many buildings in the area developed cracks.
In Thailand, the quake caused severe damage in Bangkok, where at least 10 people died when a high-rise building under construction collapsed. More than 100 people are feared trapped, and Thai authorities have launched a rescue operation.
China and India were among the first to send aid. A Chinese rescue team arrived on Saturday morning, while India dispatched medical teams and emergency supplies.
Geologist Jess Phoenix compared the quake’s energy release to over 300 atomic bombs and warned of weeks of aftershocks. She said, “What would normally be a difficult situation becomes almost impossible,” highlighting Myanmar’s fragile state.
Experts have linked the quake to the collision of the Indian tectonic plate with the Eurasian plate, predicting further seismic activity in the region.
Aid organisations have warned that communication blackouts are hampering relief efforts, leaving survivors in urgent need of medical aid, shelter, and clean water.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up a crisis management cell to assist Pakistanis affected by the earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand.
The Foreign Office expressed solidarity with the victims, calling it an “unprecedented natural calamity.” Pakistani embassies in Yangon and Bangkok have been instructed to provide emergency support, while a Crisis Management Unit (CMU) in Islamabad is monitoring the situation.

According to Bill Gates, in less than ten years, artificial intelligence advances will drastically diminish the role of humans in many traditional tasks, including education and medicine. The Microsoft co-founder recently spoke with comedian Jimmy Fallon on NBC’s “The Tonight Show,” describing a future in which AI technology will easily complete activities that today call for specialised human abilities, eliminating the need for people “for most things.” Expertise in disciplines like medical and education is still “rare” nowadays, according to Gates, who also noted that these industries rely on “a great doctor” or “a great teacher.”
But “with AI, over the next decade, that will become free, commonplace — great medical advice, great tutoring,” Gates said.
In other words, according to Bill Gates’ description of “free intelligence” in an interview with Harvard University professor and happiness expert Arthur Brooks last month, a new era of intelligence is dawning. According to Gates, the outcome will be swift advancements in AI-powered technology that are accessible and affect almost every part of our lives, from readily available AI tutors and virtual assistants to better medications and diagnosis.
The question of how exactly the majority of people will fit into an AI-powered future is still up for dispute. According to some analysts, artificial intelligence (AI) will boost economic growth and create more jobs by making human labour more efficient rather than completely replacing it. Others, such as Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, argue that further technology developments over the coming years would alter the nature of most occupations in almost every field and have a “hugely destabilising” effect on the labor force. In his 2023 book “The Coming Wave,” Suleyman stated that “these tools will only temporarily augment human intelligence.” “They will make us smarter and more efficient for a time, and will unlock enormous amounts of economic growth, but they are fundamentally labour replacing.”
Bill Gates saw the AI revolution coming nearly a decade ago. When asked which industry he’d focus on if he had to start over from scratch, he quickly chose AI.
