The UEFA Champions League quarterfinals will be underway on April 8–9, featuring four intense first-leg matches filled with tactical intrigue and stardom. Arsenal welcomes Real Madrid, Bayern hosts Inter Milan, Paris hosts Aston Villa, and Barcelona hosts Dortmund—each with its own narrative, plan, and stakes.
UEFA Champions League bracket at the quarterfinal stage
Arsenal vs Real Madrid: Youthful Press vs Veteran Poise
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal return to Europe’s biggest stage with belief, urgency, and the creative spark of Bukayo Saka, who just returned from injury. Their high press and quick transitions will clash with Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid, a team synonymous with European excellence and composed under pressure.
Madrid’s counterattacking prowess and midfield dominance, spearheaded by veterans Modrić and Valverde, might put Arsenal’s aggressive formation to the test. Historically, Madrid have enjoyed success in England, but Arsenal’s desperation might write a different narrative.
Bayern vs Inter: Kane and Musiala vs Inter’s Discipline
Harry Kane captains a Bayern Munich team that is exciting to watch but leaky at the back. Inter, with Simone Inzaghi, provide a defensive lesson based on structure, poise, and measured counterattacks. The match at Allianz Arena brings to mind their 2010 final, but this occasion Kane and Musiala will prove the difference.
Set-pieces and midfield struggles—between Kimmich and Çalhanoğlu—could swing the tie. Bayern are favourites at home, but Inter’s resilience and Pavard’s inside information create an intriguing twist.
Aston Villa’s fairy tale ride collides with PSG’s technical prowess. Luis Enrique’s side shocked Liverpool with a penalty shootout victory, demonstrating their tactical dominance and front-line interchanges. Villa, on the other hand, depend on Emery’s tactical formation, high-pressing, and faithfulness—attributes which have taken them so far in Europe for the first time since 1983.
Emery’s PSG experience brings about more intrigue, and if Villa can thwart PSG’s rhythm, an upset is possible.
Barcelona vs Dortmund: Goals Galore?
With Raphinha and Guirassy among the top scorers in the tournament, Barcelona vs Dortmund may be a shootout. Barça have historical advantage, but Dortmund’s tactical change under Niko Kovač and Guirassy’s form render them anyone’s guess.
Raphinha, Lewandowski, and Gündoğan meet up with a Dortmund team keen to shatter their Blaugrana jinx. Intensity, goals, and perhaps drama are in the offing.
These quarterfinals are not only football—these are chess matches featuring the best talent in the world. Those teams that fare best over two legs—tactically and mentally—will be one step closer to Champions League triumph.

As the Hajj season draws near, Saudi Arabia has temporarily banned visas from 14 countries, including India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The ban is designed to prevent overpopulation and maintain safety for the annual Islamic pilgrimage, bringing millions to Mecca and Medina’s holy grounds.
What the Ban Covers
The suspension will extend to multiple visa types, such as Umrah, business, and family visit visas. According to reports, the ban will remain effective through mid-June 2025—around the end of this year’s Hajj season. However, Hajj-specific visas, diplomatic visas, or residence permits will not be affected.
Saudi Arabia Temporarily Bans Visas for 14 Countries… including India
The countries included under the full scope of affected countries include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Egypt, Iraq, Ethiopia, Algeria, Morocco, Jordan, Nigeria, Sudan, Tunisia, and Yemen.
Why the Restrictions?
The decision follows increasing concern about illegal pilgrims coming to the country on non-Hajj visas and overstaying their visas to join the pilgrimage. Such practices circumvent Saudi Arabia’s formal Hajj quota system, whereby a set number of pilgrims are allocated per country.
Authorities pointed out that most unregistered pilgrims have no access to suitable accommodation, transportation, or medical facilities. They add to congestion and logistical pressure—elements also partly held responsible for the devastating loss of more than 1,200 lives amidst the sweltering heat of the 2024 Hajj.
A Step Toward Safer Pilgrimage
Saudi officials emphasise that this action is not politically motivated. Instead, it’s a logistical move intended to improve safety, especially given past tragedies attributed to uncontrolled pilgrim traffic. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has emphasised that those who try to conduct Hajj without approval or overstay their visa might be subject to a five-year ban on entry.
Saudi Arabia Temporarily Bans Visas for 14 Countries… including India
The nation had previously reduced visa availability earlier this year by suspending indefinitely one-year multiple-entry visas and restricting arrivals from the concerned countries to 30-day single-entry visas.
What it Means for India and Others
India’s inclusion is linked to reported instances of visa abuse by those trying to perform the Hajj outside of official means. For the time being, only pilgrims coming through approved tour operators and under the official Hajj quota will be permitted entry.
The restriction is temporary, but it highlights the need to follow official pilgrimage procedures—a reminder that safety and order take precedence at the world’s largest annual religious event.

Pakistan Crypto Council Appoints Binance Founder Zhao as Strategic Advisor
In a move towards adopting the digital economy, Pakistan has hired Changpeng Zhao, popularly known as CZ, the founder of Binance, as its Strategic Advisor to the Pakistan Crypto Council. The move may signal the start of a shift in Pakistan’s stance toward cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.
Government Indicates its Commitment to Innovation
The decision was made in Islamabad, where the appointment was announced during a senior-level meeting convened by Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb. The leaders from Pakistan’s finance and regulatory organisations, the State Bank of Pakistan and the Securities and Exchange Commission, also attended the meeting—hinting that this isn’t simply symbolic but a highly weighted-institutional appointment.
Pakistan Crypto Council Appoints Binance Founder Zhao as Strategic Advisor
CZ’s addition matters. As the face behind the globe’s largest crypto exchange, his addition does not just bring a global reputation but also unparalleled expertise on navigating the unpredictable yet high-reward space of digital money. For Pakistan, which has historically had a volatile history with cryptocurrencies—between crackdowns and tentative optimism—this development sends a strong message: that the nation is ready to confront the future of money.
Discussions with Top Officials on Cryptocurrency Regulation
Finance Minister Aurangzeb described it as a “historic moment” and noted that Pakistan is actively pursuing a status as a regional hub for blockchain-driven innovation. Zhao also held meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar during his visit to discuss crypto investment prospects, regulatory environments, and possible global partnerships.
This change couldn’t have come at a more pivotal moment. With inflation, a declining rupee, and youth unemployment gripping the economy, blockchain and crypto present a different narrative—one of borderless finance, decentralised empowerment, and technology-fueled job creation. Pakistan boasts one of the world’s youngest populations and a rapidly increasing number of freelance workers, many of whom already use digital currencies for cross-border payments.
Pakistan Crypto Council Appoints Binance Founder Zhao as Strategic Advisor
A Defining Moment for the Crypto Council
Pakistan Crypto Council CEO Bilal Saqib summed up the atmosphere: “There could be no better guide on this journey than CZ.”
With CZ’s advisory presence, Pakistan is making a big bet—not on blockchain alone—but on an era in which innovation fuels resilience. Whether or not this bet pays off will depend on how rapidly the nation can establish an open and investor-friendly crypto environment. However, for the time being, Pakistan has taken its most aggressive step in crypto yet.

TikTok is also exploring mobile service provider-based age verification, enhancing authentication and security measures.
TikTok family pairing has rolled out expanded parental controls and well-being tools designed to support families in fostering healthier digital habits for teens. These updates, part of TikTok’s commitment to online safety, enhance its Family Pairing feature by providing parents with greater oversight while encouraging responsible and mindful screen time among younger users.
The latest updates include:
Time Away Scheduling – Parents can set customize screen-free periods (e.g., school hours, bedtime, weekends). While teens can request extra time, parents have final approval.
Teen Network Visibility – Parents can now see who their teen follows, who follows them, and whose accounts they have blocked, fostering open discussions about online interactions.
Proactive Reporting Alerts – Soon, when a teen reports content that may violate TikTok’s Community Guidelines, they will have the option to notify a trusted adult, even if Family Pairing is not enabled.
To help teens develop more mindful screen time habits, TikTok is introducing a Wind-Down feature for users under 16. If they remain active on TikTok after 10 PM, their For You Feed will be interrupted with a full-screen reminder and calming music, encouraging them to log off. If they continue scrolling, a second, more persistent prompt will follow.
Early trials indicate that most teens choose to keep these reminders enabled, reinforcing the feature’s effectiveness in shaping positive digital behaviours. Over the coming weeks, TikTok will test meditation exercises within the feature, as research shows that mindful meditation can improve sleep quality.
“At TikTok, safety is at the core of everything we do. These new updates are part of our ongoing commitment to empowering families with the tools they need to foster healthy digital habits. By enhancing Family Pairing, strengthening our industry partnerships, and introducing innovative well-being features, we’re ensuring that young users can explore, create, and connect in a safe and positive online environment,” said a TikTok spokesperson.
Industry Partnerships Driving Online Safety Standards
TikTok is actively collaborating with global leaders to strengthen age assurance and digital safety across the industry. The platform remains committed to enforcing its age rules and adding additional ways to confirm the age of people who use TikTok. As part of their enforcement, TikTok continues to use technology, like machine learning, to prevent people under 13 from being on the platform and make sure that teenagers are in the right age appropriate experience.
In partnership with Telefónica, TikTok is also exploring mobile service provider-based age verification, enhancing authentication and security measures. Additionally, TikTok is a key participant in the Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Age Assurance, working alongside the Centre for Information Policy Leadership and the WeProtect Global Alliance to establish best practices for age verification across digital platforms.
As part of its commitment to putting young voices at the centre of platform improvements, TikTok is expanding its Global Youth Council for 2025. Following a successful first year, the council—originally launched in 2023—was designed to amplify teen perspectives and enhance their experience on the platform. The Youth Council plays a vital role in shaping TikTok’s safety, well-being, and inclusivity policies, ensuring that the platform continues to evolve with the needs and experiences of young users worldwide.
With these latest updates, TikTok is reinforcing its commitment to digital safety and well-being by introducing enhanced supervision tools, encouraging healthier online habits for teens, and strengthening collaborations with safety experts. These efforts reflect the platform’s ongoing work to create a safer and more supportive digital environment for families.
Kawasaki has unveiled CORLEO, their latest concept, at Expo 2025 in Osaka under the pavilion theme “Mobile Instincts.” CORLEO is a futuristic off-road mobility robot designed for climbing mountains and riding on rough terrain. It is powered by hydrogen and walks on four robotic legs. Each leg ends in a hoof that helps it move smoothly over different surfaces like rocks, grass and gravel.
The design combines the feel of riding a motorcycle with advanced robotics, in line with Kawasaki’s “Fun to Ride” philosophy. Instead of wheels, CORLEO uses swing arm-supported legs that can adjust to different terrains. The hooves are made of slip-resistant rubber and are split to adjust to uneven ground. The machine helps keep the rider upright even while going uphill or climbing stairs.
Kawasaki says CORLEO shows its idea of what mobility might look like in 2050—a mix of human instinct, nature and technology. A 150cc hydrogen engine powers the legs by generating electricity. Hydrogen is stored in a rear-mounted canister, which helps the machine run quietly and without harmful emissions.
An onboard navigation screen shows the path ahead, the rider’s balance point, and fuel levels. At night, CORLEO can project lights onto the ground to guide the rider. Sensors in the handlebars and foot stirrups read the rider’s movements, making the robot move in response. The height of the stirrups can also be adjusted so the rider stays comfortable.
Kawasaki says this type of ride is not just about control and comfort but also about building a deeper, more instinctive connection between the rider and the machine. The experience is described as being almost animal-like in how the robot responds.

World Health Day: Common Toxic Habits Posing Serious Threats to Your Health
We celebrate certain days for certain events in order to emphasize their cause. The same is the case with World Health Day. Every year on April 7th, the world unites to celebrate this day. All is done in order to raise awareness about global health issues and encourage healthier lifestyles.
However, on this day, many people mainly focus on medical checkups and fitness trends. It’s like the word “health” is only limited to this. Meanwhile, there is a silent epidemic of toxic daily habits that pose serious threats to our physical and mental well-being.
Common Habits That Are Pretty Concerning
Let’s take a closer look at some of the most common harmful behaviors and how they might be quietly sabotaging your health.
1. Neglecting Sleep
It is quite sad how normalised a bad sleep schedule has become these days. Many people don’t know that chronic sleep deprivation is far more dangerous than it may appear. Lack of sleep weakens the immune system, disrupts hormonal balance, and increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. Oh, and not to mention the reduced life span.
Quick Tip: Aim for 7–9 hours of quality sleep. Establish a relaxing bedtime routine and reduce screen time before bed.
Consequences of Neglecting Sleep
2. Sedentary Lifestyle (No Mobility)
Sitting is now being called “the new smoking.” Long hours of inactivity can lead to poor posture, back pain, decreased metabolism, and a higher risk of chronic diseases. For our body to function properly, it must move otherwise, it will be weakened. Almost like getting rusted.
Quick Tip: Take short breaks to stand and stretch every hour. Incorporate regular walks and consider using a standing desk.
3. Excessive Screen Time
It’s another thing that has been insanely normalised. Doom scrolling, a.k.a. “mindless scrolling,” is one of the worst things you can do to your brain receptors. The decreased attention span is living proof of that. Whether it’s scrolling through social media or binge-watching a series, too much screen time strains the eyes, disrupts sleep, and can increase anxiety and depression.
Quick Tip: Use the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Limit screen exposure before bedtime.
4. Poor Hydration
Many people underestimate the importance of staying hydrated. “Drink water” – all this celebrity advice that we get a lot is pretty accurate. It’s no surprise that dehydration affects energy levels, digestion, skin health and cognitive function.
Quick Tip: Keep a reusable water bottle with you and aim for at least 8 glasses of water daily. Adjust intake based on your activity level and climate.
These well-known vices still remain widespread. Smoking damages nearly every organ, while excessive alcohol intake can harm the liver, heart, and brain. Yes, smoking and drinking are very injurious to your health; it’s more than just a “viewer discretion”.
Quick Tip: Seek support groups or counseling for quitting smoking or reducing alcohol. Replace these habits with healthier alternatives like herbal teas or physical activity.
Prioritise Your Health This World Health Day
Your health is your most valuable asset. This World Health Day, take a moment to reflect on the habits that may be silently harming you. Small, consistent changes can make a huge difference in your long-term wellness.

Bitcoin Falls by 7% Following Trump’s Tariff Plans
Bitcoin fell by around 7% on Sunday as global financial markets remained unstable following US President Donald Trump’s tariff announcements. According to CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin fell to about $77,500 in 24 hours after mostly staying above $80,000 this year.
Other major cryptocurrencies also experienced bigger declines. Ethereum and Solana both dropped around 12 per cent during the same time. The overall cryptocurrency market saw a 7 per cent drop.
Bitcoin has now lost around 28% of its value since reaching its all-time high of approximately $110,000 in January.
The crypto market has surged recently, adding over half a trillion dollars in value after Trump announced a new strategic reserve last month. However, the upward trend shifted last week when the president said he would stick with his strict tariff policies. This has created worries about economic instability, especially in the United States.
The decline in crypto prices caused a wave of liquidations, with Bitcoin alone seeing $250 million in long liquidations in just one day, according to CoinGlass.
Investors are concerned about more market ups and downs as Trump’s tariff strategy has raised fears of a potential recession in the US. On Sunday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average futures fell over 4 per cent, S&P 500 futures dropped nearly 5%, and Nasdaq 100 futures declined by 5.3%.
Analysts at JPMorgan raised the chance of a US recession to 60% after Trump announced at least 10% blanket tariffs on nearly all countries. In response, China imposed a 34% tariff on American goods.
Defending his decision, Trump said on his platform, Truth Social: “We have massive financial deficits with China and the EU and many others. The only way this problem can be cured is with tariffs, which are now bringing tens of billions of dollars into the US. They are already in effect and a beautiful thing to behold.”

Minecraft Movie Shatters Box Office Despite Luke Warm Expectations
Don’t judge a book by its cover- a very common statement and, more than that, a very real one. Something exactly like this happened with the new Minecraft Movie. That’s right, the Minecraft Movie has proven to be a box office success, bringing in an estimated $300m (£233m) globally during its opening weekend. The irony is that no one saw this coming.
Despite the mixed early buzz and scepticism from critics and fans alike, the film—based on Mojang’s iconic sandbox video game—proved to be a commercial powerhouse, raking in over $150 million worldwide within its first three days of release. The estimates even place the film’s earnings well above its reported production budget of $150m. One way to shut every critic’s mouth!
Low Expectations, High Rewards
The film had been in development limbo for nearly a decade and underwent multiple script rewrites and director changes. Many wondered whether the game’s open-ended, non-narrative format could successfully translate to the big screen. Furthermore, the promotional campaign leaned heavily on nostalgia and the game’s cultural legacy rather than plot specifics, which made some fans worry about a lack of direction. I think it’s safe to say that the film was under a lot of lukewarm expectations, but that is what made it even better.
Minecraft Movie Shatters Box Office Despite Little Expectations
The film’s surprising blend of humour, heart and a clever meta-narrative turned the tables upside down. Audiences responded positively, with word-of-mouth praise driving ticket sales beyond initial estimates.
Starring Jack Black and Danielle Brooks, the cast brought charisma and depth to characters that originated as pixelated avatars. The voice acting was top-notch, and the chemistry between the leads provided comedic relief. A much-needed refreshing take.
The release timing also played a key role. The film was released during a relatively quiet period with minimal blockbuster competition. This allowed the movie to carve out a niche that attracted families, gamers and casual moviegoers alike.
Jason Momoa in A Minecraft Movie’
What the Critics Have to Say Now
While early critical reception was lukewarm—with many noting its shaky pacing and uneven tone; the audience reviews told a different story. On Rotten Tomatoes, the audience score currently sits at an impressive 92%, with many viewers praising the film’s respectful nods to the source material and creative world-building. The mix of live-action and stylised CGI has also been lauded for capturing the essence of Minecraft’s blocky charm without feeling gimmicky.
A New Era for Video Game Films?
The unexpected success of the Minecraft Movie may mark a turning point in the long-troubled genre of video game adaptations. Following the recent hits like The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Hollywood may finally be learning how to balance fan service with accessible storytelling.
The Minecraft Movie’s sequel is already being discussed at Warner Bros. On top of that, he merchandise is flying off the shelves, which suggests that Minecraft Movie may not just be a one-off success—but the beginning of a full-fledged franchise.

Police Officers Suspended For Leaking Dance Party Video
On Sunday, two police officers were suspended by the District Police Officer (DPO) for their involvement in a recent case regarding the release of a video featuring the suspects arrested at a farmhouse near Pakki Haveli village during an alleged dance party. This decision was shared through a press release issued by the police.
The incident happened on Friday night after the police received a tip-off about an alleged dance party near Pakki Havethe li village. Acting on this information, the police raided the farmhouse and arrested 55 people, including women.
Sub Inspector (SI) Muhammad Sadiq filed a complaint, based on which a case was registered against the suspects under Sections 3 and 4 of the Prohibition (Enforcement of Hadd) Order 1979, Section 6(a) of the Punjab Prohibition of Sheesha Smoking Act 2014, Section 6 of the Punjab Sound System Regulation Act 2015 and Sections 292 and 293 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
The next day, on Saturday, the suspects were presented before a magistrate for physical remand. The local court, however, ordered the release of all 55 individuals and discharged the case.
Following this, the police clarified in a press release that they did not make or release any video in an official capacity. The press release stated, “The police always hold self-respect of citizens as their top priority as per the SOPs.”
Strong Criticism
The suspension of the police officials came after strong criticism from social media users, who accused the police of invading the privacy of the arrested individuals. One user posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “This is absolutely ridiculous to make video of these girls and boys. This needs to stop. Koi aqal karo (Come to your senses).”
Another user said, “Releasing videos of these individuals before their crime is proven is against the Constitution and the law.” A third user commented, “The boys and girls—whose videos went viral now carry a negative identity for the rest of their lives. Who is responsible for that? Bring them to light—make them answerable.”
A fourth user pointed out, “It is strange that when Punjab police arrest drug dealers and murderers, they cover their faces when posting online, but incidents like this are recorded and posted online showing faces; what is the need for that?”

The decision of the board of intermediate and secondary education in Sindh to conduct the annual ninth and tenth examinations in the month of March has caused a wave of shock and concern among students, parents and teachers.
There is no doubt that board exams are an extremely crucial point for every student. As intense as they are, they just can’t be skipped. They are the season of exhaustion and burnout with no care or benefits from the authorities. And now they are scheduled exactly after Ramadan! As if the pressure wasn’t enough already. Honestly, this shows just how much thought the governing bodies put in for students.
Why Board Exams After Ramadan are an Issue?
As someone who has lived through this problem during my CAIE’s, all I can say is that this schedule of exams is entirely tone deaf. As a Muslim country we need to align these announcements with religious events.
Why Are Board Exams After Ramadan An Issue?
It is already really difficult for today’s children to manage their daily schedules and now imagine what happens if you add exams to the equation. Many students are now expected to perform in high-stakes exams while fasting. Oh, and not to mention, these results could have profound implications for their future.
Possible Problems That Might Occur:
The students would have to choose between fasting or preparing for the examinations, leaving them with no other option. Either the religion or the studies will have to be compromised.
Fasting during Ramadan can lead to physical and mental fatigue, which may affect students’ ability to concentrate and perform well on exams.
The need to wake up early for Suhoor (pre-dawn meal) and the potential for disrupted sleep patterns during Ramadan can negatively impact cognitive function and academic performance.
Some students may find it difficult to maintain focus and concentration while studying and taking exams during Ramadan, potentially affecting their ability to recall information and perform at their best.
All in all, the result will be affected despite the potential. The lucky ones might score higher and the unlucky ones will face the consequences even if they’re bright. Pure luck and little merit!
But Why After Ramadan?
Well, only the ones who decided on this “genius idea” can tell why they thought of it. A guess can be that they expected the students to prepare in advance — but we all know how impossible that is. The exam dates are mostly announced with little time to prepare. The only cheat code here is to prepare and recall since the start.
Until our education department figures out that exams right after Ramadan are nothing but a bad idea, we’ll have to make do with what we have.
It all starts with a proper sleep schedule. With or without Ramadan this one is a must, otherwise your productivity gets compromised. Not only should you ensure a full eight hours of sleep each day, but also adjust it in a way that helps you feel the most energised during the exam. Another thing that can be done is making a viable and effective revision schedule; one that is customised in accordance with Ramadan timings. Certain changes in mealtime and sleep schedule usually cause our circadian rhythm to shift for the worst. Instead, try studying right after suhoor when most people around have retired for the night.
The Education Ministry Must Act Fair
This scheduling and planning is undoubtedly unfair to the students who work hard throughout the year, and hence the schedules must be reconsidered.
Otherwise continuous assessment models can be implemented too. This will lower the stakes, increase reliability, help develop student learning profiles, and place testing firmly in servitude of teachers’ instructional goals. They would render the Ramadan debate a non-event because students would no longer rest on a discrete performance.

Once the most explosive fixture in the English game, Sunday’s Manchester derby was a forgettable 0-0 draw, underlining the uninspiring seasons both clubs are having. Played out under the spring sunshine at Old Trafford, the match lacked tempo, imagination and—perhaps most significantly—substantial repercussions.
Manchester City, under Pep Guardiola, is now fifth in the Premier League table with 52 points, holding on to hopes of Champions League qualification. A point behind fourth-placed Chelsea, City’s loss in the derby further complicates their route to Europe’s top competition. Manchester United, on the other hand, continued its free fall- thirteenth in the table with 38 points, Erik ten Hag’s team appears to be in an identity crisis—unable to attack with conviction or defend with consistency.
The first half was a strategic stalemate. Possession went from hand to hand without purpose, and supporters at Old Trafford saw more sideway passes than goalmouth action. Even players such as Jeremy Doku and Bruno Fernandes, usually able to bring a splash of flair, seemed happy to play-pass the ball.
Brief Sparks in a Dull Affair
During the Manchester United vs Manchester City game, the second period did produce fleeting glimpses of life. City’s Omar Marmoush unleashed a rocket from beyond the box, forcing a desperate, full-stretch save from Andre Onana—United’s player of the day. United replied through Joshua Zirkzee, whose astute turn and half-volley was expertly parried away by Ederson, which maintained the stalemate.
Source: Money Control
But these were moments of exception in an otherwise lukewarm encounter. Neither team looked like it wanted to win, much to the frustration of red and blue fans everywhere.
A City Without Firepower
There is a much bigger story that this one flat game represents: the symbolic fall of Manchester’s football giants. City, once the powerhouse and fluid posse, now looks haggard and unsure of themselves. United, once all conscience, has turned into a middle-order outfit, with select moments of form and long stretches of being ordinary.
As the campaign reaches its business end, Guardiola’s City are under growing pressure to find top-four for the first time. For United, the forthcoming games might provide more of a trial ground for players and coaching staff than an actual bid for Europa League football.
The derby was goalless, but that said it all. Two teams rebuilding. Two playing styles in question. And a city asking where its footballing cutting edge went.

“You’re a War Profiter” Pro-Palestinian Protesteer Disrupts Microsoft’s 50th Anniversary Celebration
Microsoft’s 50th anniversary celebration was cut short on Friday by a surprise intrusion of pro-Palestinian protesters, including workers, interrupting the live-streamed event held at the tech giant’s headquarters in Redmond, Washington. The protest started as Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman was showcasing the firm’s AI assistant, Copilot, to an audience with tech legends Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer and present CEO Satya Nadella.
“Mustafa, shame on you!” cried Ibtihal Aboussad, a Microsoft employee, as she strode onto the stage, accusing the company of selling AI technology used in Israeli military actions in Gaza. She tossed a keffiyeh — a Palestinian resistance symbol — before being escorted off. Suleyman replied calmly: “Thank you for your protest, I hear you.”
The disruption did not stop there. Another Microsoft staff member, Vaniya Agrawal, disrupted a different segment featuring all three Microsoft CEOs on stage together for the first time in more than a decade. This was a very public extension of earlier internal conflict — five employees were pulled out of a private meeting with Nadella in February for demonstrating against the company’s military-linked contracts.
At the centre of the protests is a report by the Associated Press, which broke that AI models created by Microsoft and OpenAI were purportedly used by the Israeli military to choose bombing targets in Gaza and Lebanon. The allegations have sparked outrage, particularly in the face of increasing civilian casualties in Gaza, where local authorities claim more than 61,700 deaths since October 2023.

Microsoft’s Official Response
Microsoft issued a statement reiterating that it embraces varied views but demands that expressions of discontent should not interfere with business. “We offer numerous avenues for all voices to be heard… but request participants to move if they create disruption,” the statement stated.
Big Tech Under a Microscope
The Redmond demonstration is the latest of a mounting sequence of actions against Big Tech firms over their connections to Israel’s military campaigns. Universities, start-ups, and international companies have come under increasing internal pressure and public opprobrium as the Gaza humanitarian crisis worsens.
As Microsoft celebrated fifty years of innovation, its own workers’ voices were heard by the world to remind it that technology’s future cannot be disconnected from its ethics of usage.

Journalist Farhan Mallick was granted bail on Monday in a PECA case related to alleged “anti-state” content after a Karachi court accepted an appeal against an earlier bail rejection by a judicial magistrate. His lawyer, Abdul Moiz Jaferii, confirmed the development and said the bail was granted for a surety of Rs 100,000.
Mallick, the founder of Raftar media agency, was arrested on March 20 in Karachi. He was booked under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) in a case linked to his YouTube channel, where he allegedly posted anti-state content. His arrest sparked criticism from media organisations and human rights activists.
District Judge (East) Dr Chaudhry Wasim Iqbal heard the appeal against the March 28 order by Judicial Magistrate Yusra Ashfaq, who had previously denied bail. Lawyer Jaferii also shared that a separate bail hearing related to a spoofed calls case was scheduled for 12 pm at the Malir district court.
In the spoofed calls case, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had raided a call centre in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, where employees were allegedly making fraudulent Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls to foreign nationals. They reportedly posed as representatives of Master and Visa banking systems to steal credit card data.
Raftar Media, on X (formerly Twitter), called the court’s bail decision a “small victory in a long journey” and said, “We are now headed to Malir Court with [the] legal team for the second hearing — keep making dua; hope and resilience keep us going.”
PECA and Alleged Call Centre Cases Against Mallick
Following his March 20 arrest, Mallick was given into FIA custody for four days. On March 25, he was sent on judicial remand, but the next day, FIA received five-day physical custody in the spoofed calls case.
The original FIR mentioned that Raftar TV’s YouTube channel was involved in running a campaign with anti-state videos. Mallick was charged under sections 16, 20, and 26-A of PECA and sections 500 and 109 of the PPC.
Section 26-A was recently added to the PECA law and defines fake news as any information that a person knows or believes to be false and which may cause fear, panic, disorder, or unrest. Punishment under this law can be up to three years in jail or a fine of Rs2 million, or both.
The growing criminalisation of online disinformation has raised concerns in Pakistan, especially among journalists, over the broad application of such laws.

Jason Gillespie isn’t one to mince his words. And when the former Aussie pacer recently opened up about his short and rocky spell with the Pakistan cricket team, he didn’t hold back.
In a brutally honest chat on the Wisden Cricket Weekly podcast, Gillespie admitted something that surprised many: his time with Pakistan made him fall out of love with coaching.
“Right now, I’m not sure I’m interested in coaching full-time,” he said. “Even if Australia comes calling—no, I’m not interested.”
Yes, you read that right. Even a call from his home team wouldn’t tempt him back.
Back in April 2024, Gillespie was appointed as Pakistan’s red-ball head coach. A few months later, he briefly took over white-ball duties after Gary Kirsten stepped down.
Expectations were high. After all, this was a decorated cricketer stepping into a high-profile role.
But instead of growth and success, Gillespie says he was met with internal politics, communication breakdowns, and a lack of cohesion.
“The internal politics and lack of cohesion made the job untenable,” he revealed.
Gillespie’s time with Pakistan ended in December 2024—just eight months after it began. It wasn’t just the early exit that hurt. It was how things unfolded behind the scenes.
Despite leading Pakistan to a historic ODI series win in Australia, the tension and turmoil off the field left a mark.
“The Pakistan experience has soured my love for coaching, I’ll be honest. It really disappointed me how that all ended,” he admitted.
“It really disappointed me how that all ended. It’s made me question whether I want to coach full-time again,” he added.
Jason Gillespie, who’s been coaching full-time for nearly 15 years, isn’t completely walking away from the game. But he’s stepping off the grind.
“I’m open to coaching in the leagues and doing some short-term work or consultancy,” he shared. “But the grind of full-time coaching—it’s just not on my agenda right now.”
In simpler terms, the passion is still there, but not the patience, at least not for the politics and pressure that come with national team jobs.

Some Overview About MDCAT
This time of the year, the entire country is buzzing about “MDCAT Prep.” But what even is it, and why is every medical student so focused on it? Well, mainly because it can make or break their careers. If you are a student who aims to get admission to a private/public medical college or dental college in Pakistan, then you need to clear the MDCAT. At all costs!
MDCAT is an examination given to gain admission to MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) or BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery). It stands for the Medical and Dental College Test and is a paper-based exam conducted annually by the PMDC (Pakistan Medical and Dental Council). This exam consists of 200 MCQS. As per the latest PMDC regulations, the MDCAT is divided into 5 sections: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English and Logical Reasoning.
There is no doubt that all these medical universities in Pakistan offer robust academic programmes. But as a student, one must consider their career goals, budget and location preferences when making a decision.

The pressure is mounting, the fans are frustrated, and the results haven’t gone our way. But in the middle of all this chaos, former Pakistan opener Salman Butt has stepped forward with a much-needed reminder: criticism is fair, but it has to be constructive.
In a chat with a digital platform, Butt urged the cricketing public to back Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, especially during this rough patch. And let’s be honest, things have been tough lately.
“It’s not about Babar and Rizwan. It is about any player in the world. It is (national team) a performance-oriented place. Those players who perform will be appreciated, and those who don’t will face criticism,” Butt said.
In other words, if you perform, you’ll be praised. If you don’t, you’ll face the heat. That’s how professional sport works. But the key point Butt made? The criticism shouldn’t get personal.
“The criticism should be constructive. It shouldn’t be that you just come at someone and start picking on them,” he added.
Under Rizwan’s captaincy, Pakistan crashed out early from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, a tournament we hosted after 29 long years.
Then came the white-ball tour to New Zealand. The result? A 4-1 loss in T20Is and a 3-0 whitewash in the ODIs. Babar Azam showed some fight with a couple of fifties, but the team just couldn’t turn the tide.
No one’s denying that the performance hasn’t been up to the mark. But as Salman Butt pointed out, these two players have carried the team on their shoulders for years.
“Babar and Rizwan have done great service for Pakistan. It is also important to highlight where they are lacking, and it is also important for them to upgrade themselves, and this is for every player in the world, ” he concluded.
Let’s face it: fans in Pakistan are passionate, sometimes too passionate. But that passion shouldn’t turn into blind rage or personal attacks. We need balance—hold players accountable, but don’t forget their past contributions.
Babar and Rizwan have had their moments—iconic knocks, match-saving partnerships, leadership under pressure. But yes, it’s also true they’ve hit a dip. That happens. Cricket is a game of form, confidence, and rhythm.

The rage between spectators and players overflowed at Mount Maunganui on April 5 when Pakistani cricketer Khushdil Shah became part of a post-game brawl with viewers after Pakistan’s 43-run defeat to New Zealand in the third ODI.
Verbal Abuse Sparks Confrontation
Khushdil Shah, who wasn’t included in the playing XI, was noticed agitated alongside the boundary ropes during the concluding stages of the game. A highly shared photo depicted the left-handed batter trying to approach people in the stands before being held back by security personnel to prevent further escalation of the situation.

The cricketer responded after being exposed to abusive and anti-Pakistan jeers in Pashto — allegedly by two Afghan nationals within the audience. The PCB immediately condemned the act, describing the abuse as “deeply inappropriate” and verifying that a formal complaint has been made.
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) also issued a statement confirming the incident. It said two spectators were removed after having a go at what was termed “alleged abuse of Pakistan players in a foreign language.” The statement added that Khushdil responded angrily to the taunt, and security at the ground quickly jumped in to stop any physical altercation.
The confrontation mirrors heightened tensions between Pakistani and Afghan fans, whose cricketing feud has developed political overtones in the past few years. Earlier clashes between the two sides have resulted in public disturbances, heated arguments, and online outbursts.
In the field, Pakistan’s New Zealand tour went from bad to worse. Their 43-run loss in the third and final ODI resulted in a 3-0 series whitewash — Pakistan’s sixth consecutive ODI loss to New Zealand in just two months. It followed on the heels of a disappointing Champions Trophy campaign on home turf and a 4-1 T20I series loss in New Zealand.
Cricketer Khushdil Shah Gets in Crowd Trouble
Calls for Better Crowd Management and Support
Pakistan’s mediocre performance has stirred concerns regarding the leadership of the team, morale levels among players, and consistency at performing on abroad tours. Khushdil’s brawl gave another layer to scrutiny over the already ailing squad, bringing forward the emotionally draining recent losses as well as criticism from outside pressure that has been inflicted upon the team.
While cricket remains a proxy battlefield for larger regional rivalries, such incidents highlight the imperative to improve crowd control, mutual respect between each other, and emotional support for those players coping with politically charged worlds.

Things are heating up off the field ahead of PSL 10, and it’s not just about the cricket. In a rare public spat between team owners, Karachi Kings’ Salman Iqbal has come out strongly against Multan Sultans’ Ali Tareen, who recently criticized the Pakistan Super League’s buildup to its landmark tenth season.
Ali Tareen’s Harsh Take on PSL 10
Let’s start with what triggered all this. Ali Tareen, the passionate and often outspoken owner of the Multan Sultans, went on a podcast and questioned the PCB’s repeated claims of making this PSL season the “best ever.”
“How is PSL 10 bigger and better?” Tareen asked bluntly. “Same games, same teams, same stadiums. I’m tired of these empty words.”
In his view, the lack of innovation and tangible upgrades is making the “best ever” label sound hollow. According to him, there’s too much reliance on slogans and not enough serious effort behind the scenes.
Salman Iqbal Responds – And He Doesn’t Hold Back
That didn’t sit well with Salman Iqbal, owner of Karachi Kings and President/CEO of the ARY Group. In a strongly worded social media statement, he defended the PSL, calling it “Pakistan’s pride” and a “made-in-Pakistan success story.”
He pointed out that from day one, ARY believed in PSL’s potential. Not only did they make the highest bid to own the Karachi Kings, but they also used their media platforms to build and promote the league.
“We broadcasted every draft live and uninterrupted. Later, A Sports offered the highest ever bid for PSL TV rights. Even this Ramzan, ARY dedicated its biggest show, Jeeto Pakistan, to unveil the PSL trophy,” he wrote.
He praised Salman Naseer and the PCB team, urging all stakeholders to back their efforts rather than publicly tearing them down.
Salman Iqbal urged the franchise owners to show unity, recognizing the hard work that’s gone into building the PSL brand. For him, public negativity does more harm than good, especially when the league is finally finding its feet on the global stage.
“Every stakeholder, including Ali Tareen, benefits from its growth. So let’s protect what we’ve built,” Iqbal said in his closing remarks.

The fire that broke out in Karachi’s Korangi area continues to burn for the 10th consecutive day as of Monday, with no sign of being extinguished. The earlier bluish flames have now turned red, signalling incomplete combustion and the release of carbon monoxide.
The blaze began on March 29 after a 1,200-foot-deep bore was drilled at the site. The cause of the fire remains unclear, and there are growing concerns about the kind and volume of the gas fuelling it.
According to sources from Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), a preliminary chemical analysis of the water that emerged from the ditch near the fire has shown the presence of dangerous chemicals. The analysis, based on water samples collected from the fire site, found high levels of benzene, toluene and tetrachloroethylene.
The initial report stated that tetrachloroethylene was present at 33 microgrammes per litre, which is much higher than the standard limit of 5mg. Benzene was found at 19mg per litre, also exceeding the acceptable threshold of 5mg. Toluene was detected at 15 microgrammes per litre, which is three times more than the recommended level. The report also noted a slightly elevated quantity of o-xylene, although it did not specify the exact amount.
However, the report mentioned that the overall hydrocarbon content in the water remained within safe limits. Authorities are also trying to find out if the chemicals detected in the samples came from toxic waste being dumped into the ground through the Malir River.
While there are companies that specialise in handling such underground fires, there has been no confirmation so far on whether the government or any relevant authorities have contacted such firms or are working on a proper contingency plan. No study has yet been launched to determine the depth or scale of the gas reservoir causing the fire.
