Catholic Church Begins Historic Conclave After Pope Francis’ Death

Catholic Church Begins Historic Conclave After Pope Francis’ Death
Catholic Church Begins Historic Conclave After Pope Francis’ Death

The Catholic Church is entering a historic and emotional moment as preparations are underway for a conclave to elect a new pope following the death of Pope Francis on 21 April 2025. The 88-year-old pontiff left behind a transformative and reform-driven legacy that reshaped the modern Catholic Church.

Following tradition, the College of Cardinals has now gathered in Rome to set the groundwork for the election. The conclave is expected to begin on 7 May, inside the famed Sistine Chapel. Only 135 cardinals under the age of 80 are eligible to vote, according to Church law. Many of them were appointed by Francis himself, suggesting that his reformist spirit may still influence the next chapter of the Church.

Pope Francis’ funeral, held at St. Peter’s Square on 26 April, drew an overwhelming crowd. Over 400,000 mourners, including heads of state and countless faithful, filled the square and the streets of Rome, a powerful testament to how deeply he touched the lives of millions worldwide.

Who will be the Next Pope?

The Sistine Chapel has already been closed to the public as it undergoes preparations for the conclave. Cardinals will reside at the Domus Sanctae Marthae during the election period, with special arrangements made to accommodate the unusually large number of voters. Strict security and secrecy measures are in place, as is tradition, to ensure that the process remains confidential and free from external pressures.

As speculation swirls about who might succeed Francis, several leading names have emerged. Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, is considered a strong contender due to his diplomatic skills and centrist reputation. Others point toward cardinals from Latin America, Africa, and Asia, reflecting the growing global face of the Catholic Church.

This conclave carries a special weight. Not only will it determine the Church’s future leadership, but it will also answer a critical question: Will the Church continue on the path of renewal and openness that Francis championed, or will it pivot toward a more traditional approach?

The world is watching as the Catholic Church stands at this crossroads. The election of a new pope promises to be more than just a ceremonial change; it is a moment that will shape the future of 1.3 billion Catholics around the world.

Only time will tell who will fill Pope Francis’ Shoes.

Kim Kardashian Robbery Case: Major Suspect Dies Mysteriously in Paris

Kim Kardashian Robbery Case: Major Suspect Dies Mysteriously in Paris
Kim Kardashian Robbery Case- Major Suspect Dies Mysteriously in Paris

A key suspect in the 2016 Paris robbery of Kim Kardashian has died unexpectedly, just weeks before the case was set to go to trial. Marceau Baum-Gertner, 72, who had long been linked to organised crime and was accused of helping sell the stolen jewellery, passed away in Paris earlier this March under circumstances that have raised serious questions.
Baum-Gertner, known in the criminal world by the nickname “Nez Râpé” or “Rough Nose,” had a long history of convictions, including theft and forgery.

He had been awaiting trial under judicial supervision after being released on bail. French authorities are now investigating the possibility that his death may not have been from natural causes. Reports suggest Baum-Gertner had been receiving threats from others involved in the robbery, who feared he might disclose critical information once the trial began.

The robbery, which shocked the world, took place during Paris Fashion Week in October 2016. Kim Kardashian, who was staying at the exclusive Hôtel de Pourtalès, was ambushed by armed men dressed as police officers. She was bound, gagged, and locked inside a bathroom while the robbers made off with an estimated $6 million in jewellery, including her $4 million diamond engagement ring from then-husband Kanye West. Despite extensive investigations, only one piece of jewellery, a small cross pendant, has ever been recovered.

Kim’s Testimony

Kim Kardashian is expected to testify in person as the trial moves forward. Over the years, she has been open about the trauma she suffered during the attack, describing it as a moment that fundamentally changed how she approaches fame, wealth, and her personal safety. Her testimony will be a central part of the proceedings, which are scheduled to continue through the end of May.

Even with Baum-Gertner’s sudden death, French prosecutors are determined to proceed against the ten remaining defendants. Many of them are referred to as the “Grandpa Robbers” due to their advanced ages, but authorities have emphasised the serious, violent nature of their crimes.

Baum-Gertner’s death adds another layer of complexity to an already high-profile case, leaving many to wonder what secrets might have been buried with him. As the trial begins, the world will be watching closely to see if justice will finally be served for Kim Kardashian, nearly a decade after one of the most infamous celebrity robberies of modern times.

World Day of Safety and Health at Work: Safety Tips Every Employee Should Know

World Day of Safety and Health at Work: Safety Tips Every Employee Should Know
World Day of Safety and Health at Work: Safety Tips Every Employee Should Know

We mark the World Day for Safety and Health at Work on 28 April every year to promote the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally. This is a day dedicated to promoting safe, healthy and decent working conditions across the globe.

Why is it so important, though? Well beyond the obvious moral responsibility, workplace safety impacts productivity, employee morale and even an organisation’s reputation.

Why is Workplace Safety Important?

Workplace safety isn’t just about ticking all the boxes; it establishes the foundation of a thriving business. Here’s why:

  • Reduces Injuries and Illnesses: Fewer accidents mean healthier employees and fewer disruptions.
  • Boosts Productivity: Safe environments promote focus and efficiency, minimising downtime.
  • Enhances Employee Morale: Workers who feel safe are more engaged and committed.
  • Protects Company Reputation: Organisations known for their safety standards attract better talent and customer trust.
  • Legal Compliance: Meeting occupational health and safety regulations helps avoid hefty fines and legal troubles.

Ultimately, investing in workplace safety is an investment in the people of the business.

Essential Safety Tips Every Employee Should Know

While companies must lead the charge, every employee plays a role in maintaining a safe work environment. Here are key safety practices everyone should embrace:

  1. Stay Aware of Surroundings: Always be alert to potential hazards in your workspace. Whether it’s a wet floor, exposed wires, or heavy machinery, awareness is the first line of defence.
  2. Follow Proper Procedures: Never take shortcuts. Established protocols exist for a reason. Ensure you understand and follow all safety procedures related to your job.
  3. Report Unsafe Conditions: If you notice something unsafe, report it immediately. Quick reporting can prevent injuries to yourself and others.
  4. Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear appropriate safety gear, whether it’s gloves, helmets, masks, or harnesses, and ensure it fits properly.
  5. Take Breaks: Fatigue can lead to mistakes and accidents. Short breaks help refresh your mind and maintain focus, especially during long shifts.
  6. Keep Your Workspace Clean: A tidy workspace reduces the risk of slips, trips, and falls. Keep pathways clear and materials stored properly.

How AI Is Enhancing Workplace Safety

It’s not always necessary that AI takes your job, sometimes it can also protect you on your job too.

Picture a workplace where risks are spotted even before they cause trouble. Through predictive analytics, AI can dig into past incident reports and spot patterns we might miss. It can highlight areas where accidents are more likely to happen. This can allow companies to fix problems before they lead to injuries.

It gets even better. AI-powered cameras and sensors can now monitor workplaces in real-time, catching things like overheating machines, chemical leaks, or even someone accidentally skipping a safety step. These smart systems can send out alerts so issues are fixed before they become emergencies. Wearable tech is another exciting advancement in this regard. Imagine a small device that tracks your posture, your stress levels, or your exposure to noise or chemicals and gives you (and your supervisor) a heads-up if something needs attention. These AI-driven gadgets help workers stay healthy without getting in the way of their day.

World Day of Safety Is a Reminder

The World Day of Safety and Health at Work is a powerful reminder that safety is a shared responsibility. Safety is more than compliance; it’s about caring for each other, fostering trust, and building stronger, more resilient organisations.

As we commemorate this important day, let’s renew our commitment to putting safety first.

“Who Killed Your Mother?”—Owaisi’s Fierce Response to Bilawal Bhutto Sparks Massive Debate!

In turn, Owaisi categorically asserted, "He should first think about who murdered his grandfather and mother. Terrorists murdered his mother.

Hitting out sharply at Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s recent statement, AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi reminded him of the violent assassinations within his own family. Referring to the deaths of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and former President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Owaisi criticised Bilawal’s rhetoric, calling it “childish talk” and “detached from reality.”

Bilawal’s Provocative Statement After Indus Treaty Suspension

Bilawal Bhutto, Pakistan’s former Foreign Affairs Minister until 2023 and still a member of the ruling coalition, had made a threatening statement after India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 25 tourists and a Kashmiri local. Speaking at a rally, Bilawal announced, “The Indus is ours and will always be ours either our water will run through it, or their blood.”

Owaisi: “Terrorism Killed Your Mother, Not India”

In turn, Owaisi categorically asserted, “He should first think about who murdered his grandfather and mother. Terrorists murdered his mother. So, at least, he should not make such irresponsible statements.” In addition, Owaisi challenged Bilawal’s political maturity, asserting, “Unless the US backs you, you cannot even govern your country, and you dare to threaten us?”

In addition, Owaisi criticized Pakistani leaders who make frequent nuclear threats to India. He stated, “If you go to a country and kill innocents, no country will keep quiet. How terrorists targeted people based on their faith, what religion are you protecting? You are more vile than Khawarij and ISIS sympathisers.”

Indian Leaders Unite in Condemning Bilawal’s Rhetoric

Benazir Bhutto was murdered on December 30, 2007, while she was addressing a public rally in Rawalpindi. Terror groups like the Taliban and al-Qaeda were attributed with her assassination by investigations, although the case remains open.

Bilawal’s comments provoked stern reactions from across the political spectrum in India. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri called upon Bilawal to “get his mental condition checked,” threatening, “Enough is enough. We will no longer tolerate such threats.” Likewise, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor characterised Bilawal’s comment as “inflammatory” and declared, “If blood is to flow, it will likely be more on their side than ours.”

536 Pakistanis Returned via Wagah Border as Deadline Expires

536 Pakistanis Returned via Wagah Border as Deadline Expires
536 Pakistanis Returned via Wagah Border as Deadline Expires

As the deadline for Pakistani citizens to leave India expired on Sunday, 536 Pakistanis returned to their homeland, while 849 Indian nationals crossed back into India through the Wagah border.

Many families on both sides of the border remain hopeful of eventually returning to their homes. Meanwhile, amid rising tensions, India instructed farmers in the border areas of Indian Punjab to harvest their crops within two days.

The Border Security Force (BSF) issued directives in the villages of Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, and Fazilka districts, urging farmers to vacate fields near the Zero Line within 48 hours.

Why Were So Many Pakistanis in India?

  • Overstayed their visas accidentally.
  • Completed jail terms but were awaiting transportation back home.
  • Been stuck due to complicated legal or immigration issues.

Some were even caught up by the COVID-19 travel restrictions that made crossing the border nearly impossible for a long time.

Homecoming at Wagah Border

On the day of the return, emotions ran high at the Wagah Border crossing near Lahore. According to reports, Pakistani officials ensured that everyone completed health screenings and immigration procedures smoothly to avoid any hiccups during this delicate moment.

One elderly man, struggling to hold back tears, shared that he hadn’t seen his family in over three years. “Every second apart felt like a year,” he said with a trembling voice. Another young woman, who had travelled with her small children, described the experience as “returning to life itself.”

How Pakistan Facilitated Their Return

Pakistani authorities worked closely with their Indian counterparts to ensure a safe and orderly return. This cooperation between the two countries shows that, despite political tensions, humanity can still find a way to shine through.

Some important steps included:

  • Prioritising the repatriation of women, children and elderly prisoners or stranded visitors.
  • Ensuring proper documentation and clearances to make the transition smooth.
  • Providing medical checkups and transport services once the nationals entered Pakistan.

US Calls for Peace Talks Between India and Pakistan

US Calls for Peace Talks Between India-Pakistan to Ease Tensions
US Calls for Peace Talks Between India-Pakistan to Ease Tensions

The United States has urged direct peace talks between India and Pakistan to avoid actions that could worsen the growing tensions between the two countries. During a press briefing, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller confirmed that American officials are actively communicating with leaders in both New Delhi and Islamabad, emphasising the need for calm, responsible diplomacy.

“We are closely following the developments and are in touch with Indian and Pakistani officials. We continue to encourage both sides to maintain open lines of communication and take steps to reduce tensions,” Miller said.

The renewed call for dialogue comes at a time when relations between India and Pakistan have once again come under strain. The United States highlighted that maintaining peace in South Asia is not only vital for regional stability but also critical for global security.

No Taking Sides, Just Support for Stability

While tensions have increased, the US was careful to reiterate its position of neutrality. Officials emphasised that Washington is not taking sides but is encouraging both countries to work toward de-escalation through peaceful means. The US has long-standing partnerships with both India and Pakistan and views both as important allies in maintaining regional security.

“We value our relationships with both nations. Our goal is not to interfere but to promote a peaceful and responsible path forward,” Miller said.

The US also noted that stronger ties between India and Pakistan would unlock economic opportunities, strengthen trade, and ensure a more secure future for the broader region. Officials added that direct communication, rather than confrontation, remains the best way to resolve disputes and prevent misunderstandings from escalating into larger conflicts.

Why Global Attention Matters

Though the tensions are playing out primarily between India and Pakistan, the situation has drawn international attention due to the potential ripple effects. Both countries possess nuclear capabilities, making any conflict between them a matter of global concern.

The US stressed that peaceful relations between the two South Asian neighbours are crucial for maintaining international economic stability, travel safety, and global peace. Diplomatic experts argue that unrest in one region can trigger financial market uncertainties, disrupt global supply chains, and create humanitarian risks.

“Our interest is in seeing a safe, secure and prosperous South Asia. Stability in the region benefits the entire world,” Miller stated.

What Lies Ahead

While the situation remains tense, diplomatic sources suggest that there is still room for dialogue. Past experience shows that even during high-stress periods, backchannel talks and diplomatic efforts have helped prevent full-scale confrontations.

American officials are hopeful that with consistent pressure and encouragement, both India and Pakistan will find a way to lower tensions and seek common ground. However, they cautioned that peace-building requires patience, restraint and a willingness from both sides to engage seriously.

5 Sweet, Savoury and Refreshing Mango Recipes to Try this Summer

5 Sweet, Savoury and Refreshing Mango Recipes to Try This Summer
5 Sweet, Savoury and Refreshing Mango Recipes to Try This Summer

There’s just something magical about mango season, isn’t it? Known as the “king of fruits,” mangoes are not only delicious but also packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and fibre. Whether you love them ripe and sticky-sweet or paired with something spicy and savoury, there are enough mango recipes for it.

Here are five of my personal favourites.

1- Mango Coconut Sticky Rice

If you’ve ever had Thai mango sticky rice at a restaurant and thought, “There’s no way I could make this at home,” but surprise: you totally can. And honestly, it might even turn out better because you can drown your sticky rice in as much coconut sauce as your heart desires.

Mango Coconut Sticky Rice

What you’ll need:

  • 1 cup sticky (glutinous) rice
  • 1 ½ cups coconut milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • 2 ripe, fragrant mangoes
  • Toasted sesame seeds (optional, but highly recommended)

How to make it:

  1. Soak your rice for an hour, then steam it until it’s tender and chewy.
  2. Heat the coconut milk with sugar and salt — don’t boil it, just melt everything together.
  3. Mix most of the coconut milk into the hot rice and let it soak up all that goodness.
  4. Serve with thick slices of mango, a drizzle of the extra sauce, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
Pro tip: Use the ripest, most aromatic mangoes you can find. It makes all the difference.

2. Zesty Mango Salsa

This mango salsa is a flavoUr bomb. It’s the kind of thing you’ll want to put on everything: tacos, grilled fish, chips straight out of the bag. (Or just eat it with a spoon).

What you’ll need:

  • 2 ripe mangoes, diced small
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 jalapeño, minced
  • A big handful of fresh cilantro
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Salt and pepper

How to make it:

  1. Toss everything together in a bowl.
  2. Chill it for 15–20 minutes if you can wait — the flavors really pop after a little rest.
Pro tip: Add diced avocado if you want it extra creamy (I mean, it’s happy hour somewhere!)

3. Creamy Mango Lassi

When the summer heat feels personally offensive, a frosty mango lassi is your best defence. Thick, creamy, lightly sweet and just a little tangy.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 cup ripe mango chunks (fresh or frozen)
  • ¾ cup plain yogurt
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2–3 tablespoons sugar (more or less to taste)
  • A pinch of cardamom powder (trust me)
  • Ice cubes

How to make it:

  1. Blend everything together until smooth and dreamy.
  2. Pour into a tall glass, add a sprinkle of cardamom if you’re feeling fancy, and sip immediately.
Pro tip: Swap out half the milk for coconut milk if you want to feel like you’re on a beach vacation.

4. Spicy Mango Chicken Skewers

Who knew mangoes can be grilled? These spicy mango chicken skewers need to be on your menu! They’re smoky, sweet, a little spicy and basically the reason your neighbours will start casually “stopping by.”

Spicy Mango Chicken Skewers

What you’ll need:

  • 2 chicken breasts, cut into bite-size chunks
  • 1 large mango, pureed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • ½ teaspoon chili flakes
  • Salt and pepper

How to make it:

  1. Whisk together the mango puree, olive oil, honey, soy sauce, garlic, chili flakes, salt, and pepper.
  2. Marinate the chicken chunks for at least an hour (overnight if you want max flavor).
  3. Thread onto skewers and grill for about 10–12 minutes, flipping so they get those delicious charred bits.
Pro tip: Serve them over a bed of rice or wrapped in a warm flatbread with a squeeze of lime. You’re welcome.

5. Frozen Mango Yogurt Bites

Somewhere between a popsicle and a frozen yogurt cup, these mango yogurt bites are dangerously easy to make… and even easier to devour.

Frozen Mango Yogurt Bites

What you’ll need:

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1–2 tablespoons honey (optional, depending on your sweet tooth)
  • 1 ripe mango, diced small
  • Mini muffin pan or silicone molds

How to make it:

  1. Mix the yogurt with honey, then gently fold in the mango.
  2. Spoon into molds or muffin liners and freeze for a few hours until solid.
  3. Pop them out and store in a bag in the freezer for whenever you need a cool-down treat
Pro tip: Sprinkle a little granola on top before freezing for a crunchy surprise!

Whether you’re making a show-stopping dessert, a fresh-as-heck salsa, or a cooling drink, these mango recipes are guaranteed to make the hottest days a lot sweeter (and a lot more delicious). So stock up while you can and don’t be afraid to get a little messy. Mango juice running down your wrists is basically a rite of passage.

India Blocks Major Pakistani YouTube Channels, Raising Press Freedom Concerns

India Blocks Major Pakistani YouTube Channels Raising Press Freedom Concerns

India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has ordered to block several major Pakistani YouTube channels, including popular news outlets like ‘Bol News‘ and ‘Geo News.’

The Indian government claims that these channels were spreading misinformation and “threatening national security.” Because of these concerns, they acted quickly under their IT rules to block them.

Critics argue that India’s move might be less about national security and more about controlling information. Freedom of speech and press freedom are cornerstones of any democracy. Blocking media platforms affects how people get information and form their opinions.

Who Else is Affected?

It’s not just big media houses that are feeling the impact; this decision affects everyday people as well, such as:

  • Journalists who use these platforms to share important news.
  • Viewers who rely on multiple sources for information.
  • Pakistani communities living in India who want to stay connected with news from back home.

Press Freedom: Why Does it Really Matter?

Press freedom isn’t just a buzzword; it’s the backbone of a healthy society. It ensures that governments are held accountable and that people can criticise decisions without fear.

When a government controls which news sources you can see, it’s like trying to walk through life with one eye closed. You miss out on the full picture. And when people don’t have access to reliable information, it becomes harder to make informed decisions about voting, education, and everyday life.

In short, press freedom matters because knowledge is power. Without it, that power shifts away from the people and into the hands of a few.

India’s Side of the Story

To be fair, India’s government says it took the step to protect its citizens. They’re worried about the spread of fake news, especially with sensitive topics like national security and public order.

We’ve all seen how false information can spread like wildfire online. Sometimes, it even leads to real-world violence. In that sense, governments do have a responsibility to keep people safe.

But where should the line be drawn? That’s the big question here.

Looking at the Bigger Picture

India’s move to block Pakistani YouTube channels isn’t happening in a vacuum. Around the world, more governments are getting involved in controlling online information. Whether it’s social media bans, internet shutdowns, or censorship of news outlets, the digital world isn’t as “free” as it once was.

What can be Done?

Instead of blocking content, many believe that encouraging a culture of openness and critical thinking is key. Encouraging respectful debates, supporting independent journalism and holding all media outlets (yes, all of them) accountable for honest reporting can make a huge difference.

At the end of the day, freedom of information empowers everyone. And when more people have access to diverse information, society grows stronger—not weaker.

Final Thoughts

India’s decision to block Pakistani YouTube channels has definitely sparked a serious conversation about press freedom—not just in South Asia, but all around the globe. It reminds us that while the digital world offers amazing opportunities, it also comes with challenges we must face carefully.

As more of our lives move online, protecting access to accurate and diverse information becomes more important than ever. After all, the internet is supposed to bring people together, not keep them apart.

Shahid Afridi Highlights Islam’s Message of Peace, Criticies India’s Violence

Shahid Afridi Highlights Islam’s Peace Message, Criticies India’s Violence

Have you ever wondered how famous sports figures use their platform to talk about important topics beyond their game? Recently, former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi took a moment to speak about peace, religion and rising violence in India. His comments have sparked conversations across the cricketing world and beyond.

Shahid Afridi: “Islam Teaches Peace”

At a recent public gathering, Shahid Afridi focused not on cricket, but on something very close to his heart — the true message of Islam. He made it clear that ‘Islam promotes peace, love, and tolerance, not hatred or violence.’

Afridi emphasised that:

  • Islam’s core teachings revolve around helping others.
  • Peaceful living and respecting all lives are fundamental values.
  • No faith ever encourages harming innocent people.

He seemed genuinely disturbed by how often religion is misunderstood or misrepresented. Many times, people associate certain acts of violence with a whole religion, which is unfair and misleading. Afridi wanted to set the record straight—at least where Islam is concerned.

Afridi’s Strong Criticism of Violence in India

While speaking about peace, Shahid Afridi also took a firm stand against violence happening in India, especially related to minorities.

He didn’t shy away from saying that ‘India, a nation known for its rich diversity,’ is sadly seeing a dangerous rise in internal conflicts, both political and religious. Afridi pointed to reports claiming people are being attacked simply because of their religion or cultural background.

He said bluntly, “India is killing its own people”—a bold, but true statement that caught a lot of attention.

Why was this Statement so Shocking?

Coming from a sports star, such political and social criticisms are always surprising. Usually, athletes stay neutral when it comes to matters like international relations or domestic politics. But Afridi decided to use his voice differently.

It’s almost like when your favourite teacher suddenly gets really serious and talks about life’s bigger issues—you sit up and listen, right? That’s what Afridi tried to do: wake people up and start a conversation.

India’s Diversity: A Blessing or a Challenge?

India is home to countless cultures, languages and religions. In many ways, it’s like a colourful patchwork quilt — every piece different, but stitched together beautifully.

However, maintaining unity in such a diverse nation is challenging. When national leaders and citizens let differences turn into divisions, the results can be devastating.

Just like a cricket team relies on each player’s unique skills, a country depends on every citizen to play their part in harmony. As fans of the game, we know what happens when teammates start fighting among themselves—the whole team suffers!

Should Athletes Speak Out on Social Issues?

This brings up a really interesting point: Should athletes and celebrities voice their opinions on political issues?

Some people believe sports should stay separate from politics. They feel players should focus only on their game and avoid anything controversial.

But others think that when you have a platform, you also have a responsibility. If you have millions of followers, why not use your voice to promote peace, understanding and positive change?

What do you think? Should cricketers like Shahid Afridi speak up about social issues?

Who is Corbin Bosch? The South African Player Who is Banned from PSL

Who is Corbin Bosch? The South African Player Who is Banned from PSL
Who is Corbin Bosch? The South African Player Who is Banned from PSL

For Corbin Bosch, cricket has never been an easy ride — and maybe that’s why his Mumbai Indians debut in IPL 2025 is all the more special. Once touted as a teenage sensation following his Player of the Match heroics at the 2014 Under-19 World Cup, Bosch’s early career did not live up to the hype. But now, aged 30, he’s finally making the most of his moment on one of the sport’s biggest stages.

From SA20 Success to International Recognition

Signed into the MI team as an injury cover for Lizaad Williams, Bosch was not on the auction radar at all in the earlier half of the year. But fortune had other designs. A promising domestic campaign for MI Cape Town — in which he picked 11 wickets in only seven innings to aid his team win the SA20 trophy — resurrected interest in his talent. His steady performances ultimately saw him earn a much-awaited summons to South Africa’s Test and ODI sides in the late part of 2024.

Pakistan slaps one-year PSL ban on South African Corbin Bosch for breaching contract
Source: Times Union

Bosch’s bowling has everything a T20 team desires: slippery pace, tight bounce, and clever variations. But it is his calm under pressure that distinguishes him best. His untouchable 81 against Pakistan in the Boxing Day Test and a calm 40* during his ODI debut demonstrate that he is more than a batsman who bowls — he’s an actual all-rounder waiting to go big when the pressure is at its highest.

Learning the Hard Way: The PSL Controversy

However, his trip to Mumbai was not controversy-free. Bosch’s withdrawal from the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) to play for MI angered many, resulting in a one-year PSL ban. In a contrite apology, he took complete responsibility, saying sorry to the fans of Peshawar Zalmi and the entire cricket fraternity. It was a bitter lesson, but one that appears to have hardened his determination.

Now, donning the blue of Mumbai Indians, Bosch has a new chance to reinvent himself. With the IPL providing the brightest stage in world cricket, a couple of solid performances may open even larger doors, both abroad and in franchise leagues globally.

Corbin Bosch has a unique tale of second chances, hard knocks, and never giving up. And as he sets out on this new journey, cricket fans across the globe will be sitting up straight — because sometimes late bloomers make the biggest impression.

JS Bank Reports PKR 2.74 Billion Profit Before Tax for Q1 2025

JS Bank, one of the fastest growing banks in Pakistan, has announced its financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2025. The Bank reported an unconsolidated Profit Before Tax of PKR 2.74 billion profit, while Profit After Tax stood at PKR 1.29 billion. Earnings per share for the period were PKR 0.63, compared to PKR 0.84 in the same quarter last year.

Despite a significant reduction in the regulatory policy rate year-on-year, the Bank delivered steady growth in its core earnings. Net interest income increased by 5% year-on-year to PKR 7.43 billion, while total revenue for the quarter reached PKR 10.61 billion. Core fee income also showed strong momentum, rising 19% year-on-year to PKR 1.31 billion. The growth in core earnings was primarily driven by an improvement in average non-remunerative deposits and volumetric expansion across the balance sheet.

Operating expenses remained well-managed with a modest 13% year-on-year increase. The Bank’s coverage ratio improved to 72.4%, compared to 70.7% at year-end December 31, 2024.

On a year-on-year basis, the Bank’s average non-remunerative deposits grew by PKR 22 billion. As of March 31, 2025, period-end non-remunerative deposits stood at PKR 179.95 billion, representing 34% of the deposit mix. The Bank’s total assets increased to PKR 670 billion, up from PKR 636 billion at year-end 2024. The net investment portfolio grew by 19% to PKR 361 billion, while customer deposits rose to PKR 534 billion. Net advances stood at PKR 193 billion, reflecting a prudent lending approach.

On a consolidated basis, the Bank posted a Profit Before Tax of PKR 7.49 billion and a Profit After Tax of PKR 3.10 billion. Consolidated earnings per share were reported at PKR 1.18.

Basir Shamsie, President & CEO of JS Bank, said “Our performance this quarter reflects the strength of our strategy and our continued focus on delivering value to our customers. As we move forward, we’re focused on scaling our impact through innovation, expanding access to financial services, and supporting the country’s economic progress.”

Standard Chartered Pakistan Delivers Profit Before Tax Of PKR 17 Billion

Standard Chartered Pakistan’s results reflect a resilient start to the year underpinned by prudent risk management.

Standard Chartered Bank Pakistan Limited (SCBPL) delivered a resilient financial performance with profit before tax of PKR 17.0bn compared to PKR 24.7bn in Q1’24.

The Bank posted revenue of PKR 23.1 bn, lower by PKR 6.4bn primarily due to a sharp reduction in interest rates. This was partially offset by an increase in non-funded income and a decrease in cost of funds. While expenses increased 11% on the back of inflation, investment in infrastructure and people, bank continues to lead the industry with lowest cost to income ratio of 25%.  A prudent risk approach and recoveries of bad debts led to a benign charge of PKR 0.3bn during the year.

On the liabilities side, the Bank’s total deposits stood at PKR 726bn; down by 13% from start of the year. The Bank’s deposit mix improved with current accounts now constituting 54% of the deposit book, compared to 48% last year. On the assets side, net advances recorded a strong growth of PKR 54bn or 31% during Q1’25, reflecting pick-up in economic momentum.

With a healthy Return on Equity (ROE) of 28.9% for the period and a Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) of 19.0%, the Bank remains well positioned for future growth.

The Bank continues to monitor the economic landscape and is well placed to cater to the needs of its clients and will continue its strategy to build a profitable, efficient, and sustainable portfolio bringing best-in-class services and solutions; focusing on its differentiated cross-border capabilities, wealth management expertise and digital transformation.

The Bank also partners with Karachi United and launched the Seventh Youth League – Football Tournament to promote sports amongst children for the seventh year in a row.

Commenting on the results, Rehan Shaikh, Chief Executive Officer & Head of Coverage, Standard Chartered Bank Pakistan said, “Standard Chartered Pakistan’s results reflect a resilient start to the year underpinned by prudent risk management, disciplined execution and continued trust from our clients. The current lower interest rate environment has supported a healthy uptick in lending which bodes well for business expansion. We have seen encouraging momentum across key segments and remain focused on delivering sustainable growth and contributing meaningfully to Pakistan’s economy.”

China Rushes PL-15 Missile to Pakistan Amid Rising India Tensions Hint at Escalation

By now, we all know about the India-Pak situation and how, one after another, India continues to pull the strings to make matters worse. Now what choice does a country 7 times smaller than it’s neighbour has? Fight back. This is exactly what Pakistan is doing now. I mean, you can’t just expect it to sit back and watch.

You threaten to cut off our water, send our patients back and openly massacre Muslims in the name of revenge and then expect us to stay complacent?

Recent reports confirm that China has delivered its cutting-edge PL-15 missiles to Pakistan. And as expected, it has been met with hand-wringing in the Indian and Western media. However, all these media platforms must know that this is not an act of provocation; it is just a long overdue reply to balance the scales.

PL-15: A Game-Changer in Air Combat

The PL-15 is a formidable weapon; a beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM). The missile is said to have a range of over 200 kilometers, powered by advanced AESA radar technology. In simpler terms, it gives our pilots the ability to strike first and strike accurately, even before other aircraft come close enough to pose a serious threat.

For years, Pakistan’s Air Force has been quietly modernising, often overshadowed by India’s massive defense budget. Yet despite New Delhi’s PR machinery touting its “superiority,” Pakistan has consistently maintained credible deterrence. This was shown during the 2019 post-Balakot fight where our pilots downed an Indian aircraft and captured one of their pilots alive (the “tea is fantastic” reference).

The arrival of the PL-15 missiles, particularly when integrated into our JF-17 Block III fleet, gives Pakistan a much-needed technological edge; one that cannot be dismissed so easily.

Strategic Timing: Why Pakistan Needs this Now

China’s expedited delivery of the PL-15 is not about “offense.” It is about credible deterrence. A strong Pakistan Air Force equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry like the PL-15 ensures that any future misadventures will be met with swift and decisive retaliation. It also sends a clear signal to the world: Pakistan is not isolated, nor is it defenseless.

The Hypocrisy of Western Narratives

The double standards in international commentary are glaring. When India acquires cutting-edge missiles like the Meteor for its Rafales, it’s hailed as “modernisation” and “self-defense.” When Pakistan acquires similar capabilities like PL-15, it’s labelled “destabilisation.” Pakistan has repeatedly called for dialogue, for peace and for de-escalation. Yet we are left with little choice but to prepare for the worst. Strategic parity is not optional for us but it is essential for our survival.

Moreover, critics conveniently forget that Pakistan’s nuclear doctrine is defensive. If India feels threatened by Pakistan acquiring defensive capabilities, perhaps it should introspect on why its neighbours feel the need to arm themselves in the first place.

Jhelum River, Pakistan, Stabilise Following Mangla Discharge

Jhelum River, Pakistan, Stabilise Following Mangla Discharge
Jhelum River, Pakistan, Stabilise Following Mangla Discharge

The Jhelum River, Pakistan, is an important source of water for Punjab and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK). Its flow varies with seasons and the management of upstream dams. Recent events raised concerns, but flows are now stabilising.

The River System and Mangla Dam

The Jhelum river originates in the Himalayas. It runs through Indian-administered Kashmir before it enters Pakistan. The river is important for agriculture and hydropower. Mangla Dam is located on the river in AJK. It is a giant earth-filled dam that retains water during wet seasons, such as monsoons or spring snowmelt. The authorities release this water in dry seasons, primarily for irrigation canals of Punjab. The dam also produces considerable electricity.

Recent Water Level Surge

Late April 2025 saw water levels in the Jhelum suddenly increase close to Muzaffarabad. The rise created alarm among local communities. This occurred at the time of heightened political tensions following India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). People were concerned about unannounced water releases by Indian upstream projects, such as the Kishanganga dam. There were reports that this had happened.

Official Explanations and Data

But Pakistan flood forecasting authorities presented a different picture. They explained that flows are usually higher from April to June. Snowmelt in the catchment of the river results in increased flows. Officials explained that the water levels recorded, although higher, were still below the official “low flood” level of the Jhelum at Mangla.

Managed Flows and Normalisation

The Indus River System Authority (IRSA) monitors water inflow and outflow at Mangla Dam on a daily basis. After the phase of increased inflow (about 47,100 cusecs in late April), IRSA regulated the outflows. Controlled releases (e.g., 32,000 cusecs) from Mangla were reported. This regulation balances downstream irrigation requirements, dam safety, and flood control. Although surges upstream of the dam can concern local communities, the operation of the dam tends to normalise flows further downstream. This keeps river levels in line with seasonal requirements. Proper management by WAPDA and IRSA remains essential for the region.

Olo: Scientists Discover a New Colour Invisible to Human Eye

Olo: Scientists Discover a New Colour Invisible to Human Eye
Olo: Scientists Discover a New Colour Invisible to Human Eye

Science has the knack of disclosing marvels that lie beyond our immediate sight. Just recently, researchers uncovered an interesting one regarding colour perception. They discovered a colour, “Olo,” which lies outside the range of colors humans typically perceive.

Unveiling the Invisible

A group of scientists in America reported this finding. Olo is not a laboratory-created colour; it always existed. Yet it is outside the spectrum of wavelengths of light the human eye usually perceives. Our eyes hold cone cells responsive to red, green, and blue light. These enable us to see the familiar spectrum of colours. Olo exists outside these parameters.

Read More: According To Science, Here Are 10 Physical Traits That Reveal Your Personality

Viewing Olo with Technology

Olo can’t be directly viewed by the human eye. The researchers created a custom method, dubbed Oz, which makes it observable. The procedure involves the careful targeting of laser pulses into the eye. Such pulses excite the cone cells in a selective manner. Practically, the procedure “misleads” the brain into recognising a colour stimulus it wouldn’t otherwise receive in the environment.

What Does Olo Look Like?

How do you define a colour that no one has ever seen? Five volunteers experienced Olo with the Oz technique. They tried to translate their perception into language. Descriptions were slightly different but tended towards a teal-like shade. Some called it an extremely bright or saturated blue-green colour, unlike anything they had ever seen before. It illustrates the distinction between the physical reality of light wavelengths and our biological capacity to see them.

Olo: Scientists Discover a New Colour Invisible to Human Eye
Olo: Scientists Discover a New Colour Invisible to Human Eye

Beyond the Visible Spectrum

This finding raises interesting questions regarding human perception. It is a reminder that our senses offer only a partial view of the physical world. Technologies such as the Oz technique may permit us further glimpses beyond our natural limits of sensing. Although Olo itself may not revolutionise our everyday lives, knowing how we can see previously unseen things advances the limits of neuroscience and optics.

Just think about it: Olo is just one colour that we can’t perceive; what else is out there?
