Pi Network to Launch Open Network on 20 Feb

Source: Crypto World

After years of building and waiting, Pi Network is finally launching its open mainnet on February 20, 2025. This is a significant milestone for the cryptocurrency, as it lets users—pioneers—interact with the larger blockchain community for the first time.

A Long Road to the Open Mainnet

Released in 2019, Pi Network accumulated quick momentum by providing direct mining capability for Pi coins on mobile platforms. Though attracting millions of members, the swap to an open mainnet suffered repeated delays. This was due to developers emphasising security, verification of identity and scalability.

Today, having overcome initial challenges, Pi Network has reached important milestones:

  • 19 million Pioneers completed KYC verification.
  • Over 10.14 million users have been migrated successfully to the mainnet.
  • Over 100 applications are ready for mainnet, making the Pi ecosystem solid.

These developments have paved the way for a successful open mainnet launch.

What the Open Mainnet Means for Users

The most significant change is that Pi’s blockchain will no longer be restricted to its internal ecosystem. With the removal of the firewall, Pi will be able to interact with other blockchain networks, enabling real-world transactions and expanding its use cases.

Besides, the movement of Pi from testnet to mainnet will witness nodes moving to a fully decentralised environment, with a focus placed on verified and active contributors. Security is also of utmost priority, with businesses being mandated to undergo KYB verification to achieve trustworthiness within the environment.

Pi Coin’s Price Surges

The public announcement of the open mainnet launch has already triggered a large price spike. The value of Pi Coin has risen by 80%, from $49 to $92 within a matter of hours. Market experts think that when the open network will launch, Pi Coin may reach above the $100 mark, further establishing itself as a player in the crypto market.

A Final Call for Unverified Users

For Pioneers who have yet to complete KYC verification or migrate to the mainnet, time is running out. However, they will still have the opportunity to do so after the launch. Users are encouraged to explore Pi’s ecosystem through the Pi Browser and contribute to the network’s growth.

As Pi Network ventures into the world of blockchain globally, everyone is waiting with bated breath to see what it does next. With its open mainnet finally arriving, the future of Pi has never looked brighter.

The Weeknd Drops Haunting ‘Cry For Me’ Music Video

The Weeknd Drops Haunting ‘Cry For Me’ Music Video

The Weeknd is maintaining a grip on his fans with the latest music video, “Cry for Me,” a melancholic visual further solidifying his legacy before even a possible reboot. In his album Hurry Up Tomorrow, which newly dropped at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the song dips into heartache and yearning—standbys of The Weeknd’s classic sound.

Stunning Cinematography and Symbolism

In the gorgeous black-and-white video, The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) appears in a dazzling, hooded ensemble, moving slowly towards an enigmatic woman. The powerful imagery, such as images of the woman weeping thick, dark tears, is one of profound sorrow. The chorus repeats his suffering: “I hope you cry for me like I cry for you.” The cinematography combined with the lyrical intensity creates a visually striking experience.

Hurry Up Tomorrow marks another milestone in The Weeknd’s illustrious career, giving him his fifth chart-topping album. The 22-track project includes collaborations with Playboi Carti on “Timeless” and Anitta on “São Paulo,” both of which have dominated streaming platforms. The album blends elements of his signature dark R&B with futuristic synth-pop, reinforcing his ability to evolve while staying true to his core sound.

The End of an Era?

However, what adds to the importance of this release is The Weeknd’s consideration of abandoning his moniker. In a recent interview, he revealed that Hurry Up Tomorrow could be his last album using this name, as he feels the need to move away from the constant quest for awards. “It’s a headspace I’ve gotta get into that I just don’t have any more desire for,” he said. Although he assured fans that music will never be out of his life, he suggested that there is a creative change to come.

If “Cry for Me” is a goodbye to the character who stood in for an entire generation of music, it is an appropriate one—dramatic, passionate and unforgettable. Whether this is indeed the end of The Weeknd as we have come to understand him and the start of an entirely new chapter, one thing is certain: Abel Tesfaye’s talent will leave its indelible mark.

Project Director Dr Mohammad Khurram explained that their team is working on refining the car’s software and data control systems. While the vehicle’s mapping system is complete, the team is working on signal light recognition and steering control, both crucial for crowd safety.

A Leap for AI Research in Pakistan

This project is not solely about autonomous vehicles; it’s a reflection of Pakistan’s increased ability in AI. NCAI is one of nine research facilities commissioned by the federal government to develop AI technology. This project demonstrates the viability of local engineers to drive technological innovation in high-tech sectors.

The research team, comprising students Inzamam and Aleema, focused on the application of robotics to streamline the car’s decision-making. Their virtual driving simulation has shown promising results, proving the viability of AI-governed vehicles in Pakistan’s urban setting.

Challenges and Future Prospects

While this is an exciting leap forward, several challenges remain. Karachi’s unpredictable traffic, poor road conditions and a lack of regulatory framework for autonomous vehicles pose significant hurdles. However, if successful, this project could pave the way for AI-driven public transport solutions and reduce road accidents caused by human error.

NED University’s autonomous vehicle is likely to run within its campus first, but the intention is to eventually test it on public roads. If Pakistan manages to make AI a part of transport, it may lead to more technological innovations and economic prospects in the field of AI.

With test rides scheduled for the near future, the streets of Karachi may soon see a milestone event—Pakistan’s first autonomous car on the move.

Ramadan Incoming: Healthy Iftaar Ideas

Ramadan Incoming: Healthy Iftaar Ideas

Ramadan is almost here, and if you think this is the time to indulge in fried pakoras, dahi ballay, samosas, chaat and every unhealthy thing possible, think again. Do you really want to do that to your body? Apart from being the most auspicious month of the year, Ramadan is unfortunately also the unhealthiest, and it’s time we change that.

Let’s dive into the five healthiest Iftaar ideas for this Ramadan because you deserve food that’s not only good for your taste buds but also your body.

Veggie Sandwiches

Vegetables in Iftaar? I know it doesn’t sound ideal, but trust me, a little twist can make even the most boring vegetables a dream. Ramadan is a time to skip the rotis and move to more light and refreshing sandwiches, and that’s where the vegetables shine. Choose the bread of your choice, ideally brown bread if you’re going for the super healthy lifestyle, add some eggs, cucumbers, leafy greens, tomatoes and anything else you like. Top them up with spicy mayo or olive oil and toast it. And voila, enjoy!

Date Shake

Give your dates a much-needed twist this Ramadan and make a very delicious date shake. Made with de-seeded dates, milk, a tiny bit of sugar and nuts of your choice, this filly drink will keep you energised after a long, tiring day of fasting.

Chana Masala

Chickpeas are a staple for Ramadan, and why shouldn’t they be, for they aren’t just filling but also exceptionally healthy for anyone looking to lose a few kilos. All you have to do is boil your chickpeas and add dried red chillies, green chillies, onion, garlic, garam masala, tomato puree and, of course, the secret ingredient: dried mango!

Grilled Chicken Salad

In the mood for something fancy yet light? Well, we have the perfect iftaar recipe for that. Grilled chicken salad is loaded with protein, making it a must-have for iftaar. And when you top it with leafy greens, tomatoes, nuts and a hint of olive oil, you turn an oh-so-boring salad into a scrumptious snack! All you have to do is make sure your chicken is nicely marinated and grilled to perfection for that tongue-smacking taste.

Steamed Dahi Bhallay

Are you a big fan of dahi bhallay but feel ever so guilty of having them every day in Ramadan? Well, fret not, we’ve got you covered this time. Instead of frying your fritters, aka bhallays, try steaming them for a healthier version of the beloved dish. For an even lighter touch, make the fritters with moong daal or urat daal and serve with fresh yoghurt.

And that’s it for now, folks; these were some of the healthiest recipes that you need to try this Ramadan. As we welcome the month, remember to fill your iftaar tables with nutrition, health and, most importantly, gratitude.

China’s AI Chipmakers get Competitive Boost from DeepSeek

China's AI Chipmakers get Competitive Boost from DeepSeek

The rise of DeepSeek’s artificial intelligence (AI) models is seen as providing some Chinese chipmakers, such as Huawei, a better chance to compete in the domestic market against more powerful U.S. processors.

Huawei and Chinese firms have struggled for years to develop high-end chips that can compete with Nvidia’s offerings for training algorithms to make accurate decisions.

However, DeepSeek’s models, which focus on “inference” or when an AI model produces conclusions, optimise computational efficiency rather than relying solely on raw processing power. That is one reason why the model is expected to partly close the gap between what Chinese-made AI processors and their more powerful U.S. counterparts can do, analysts say.

Integrating DeepSeek Further

Huawei and several Chinese AI chipmakers, including Hygon, Tencent-backed EnFlame, Tsingmicro and Moore Threads, have recently announced that their products will support DeepSeek models. However, only a few details have been released. Huawei declined to comment. Moore Threads, Hygon EnFlame and Tsingmicro did not respond to Reuters queries seeking further comment.

Industry executives are now predicting that DeepSeek’s open-source nature and low fees could boost the adoption of AI and the development of real-life applications for the technology. It will help Chinese firms overcome U.S. export curbs on their most powerful chips.

Even before DeepSeek made headlines this year, products such as Huawei’s Ascend 910B were seen by customers, such as ByteDance, as better suited for less computationally intensive “inference” tasks.

In China, dozens of companies, from automakers to telecoms providers, have announced plans to integrate DeepSeek’s models with their products and operations.

“This development is very much aligned with the capability of Chinese AI chipset vendors,” said Lian Jye Su, a chief analyst at tech research firm Omdia.

“Chinese AI chipsets struggle to compete with Nvidia’s GPU (graphics processing unit) in AI training, but AI inference workloads are much more forgiving and require a lot more local and industry-specific understanding,” he said.

Shanto’s Bold Call: Can Bangladesh Stun the World at Champions Trophy 2025?

can-bangladesh-stun-the-world-at-champions-trophy-2025

The stage is set. The teams are ready. And Bangladesh? They’re not just here to participate—they’re here to win. Ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto has made his intentions crystal clear: “We are going to the Champions Trophy to become champions.”

Confident? Absolutely. Overconfident? Not at all.

From Setbacks to Comebacks

Let’s face it—Bangladesh’s recent ODI record has been rough. They had a forgettable run at the 2023 World Cup, winning only two matches. Since then, their only bilateral series win was a 2-1 triumph over Sri Lanka in March last year.

But here’s the thing about this team: They don’t back down.

Despite their struggles, Shanto is backing his side to create magic in Pakistan and the UAE, where the tournament kicks off on February 19.

“All eight teams can win this tournament,” Shanto said, “But we believe in ourselves, and no one is under unnecessary pressure.”

No Shakib, No Problem?

Sure, Shakib Al Hasan won’t be part of the squad, but Shanto isn’t losing sleep over it.

He’s happy with the blend of youth and experience in the 15-member squad. And he’s got a point—this team looks balanced and dangerous:

  • Power hitters like Soumya Sarkar and Tawhid Hridoy
  • Experienced anchors like Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah
  • A pace attack led by the fiery Taskin Ahmed and the crafty Mustafizur Rahman
  • And finally, something Bangladesh once lacked—wrist spinners, thanks to Rishad Hossain

Bangladesh has landed in Group A, and it’s anything but easy:

  • February 20: vs India in Dubai
  • February 24: vs New Zealand in Rawalpindi
  • February 27: vs Pakistan in Rawalpindi

But guess what? They’ve beaten all these teams before. And if they bring their A-game, they could do it again—when it matters the most.

What a night for Pakistan cricket! Fans at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi witnessed history as Pakistan chased down a massive 353-run target to crush South Africa by six wickets in the tri-nation ODI series.

It wasn’t just a win—it was a record-breaking masterclass. Batting first, South Africa flexed their muscles with a powerful total of 352/5 against a helpless bowling attack of Pakistan.

Temba Bavuma, Matthew Breetzke, and Heinrich Klaasen all notched up half-centuries, making it South Africa’s second-highest ODI total against Pakistan.

Pakistan Chase Records Against South Africa

In reply, Pakistan pulled off their highest-ever successful run chase in ODIs, breaking their previous record of 349 runs against Australia in 2022.

And guess who made it possible? Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha, with an unforgettable partnership that had everything—class, composure, and carnage.

Rizwan and Agha: Heroes of the Night

Both Rizwan and Agha smashed centuries, creating history as the first-ever middle-order pair from Pakistan to score tons in the same ODI.

But that’s not all. Their stand rewrote the record books:
✅ 260-run partnership – Pakistan’s highest-ever stand for any wicket in a run chase, surpassing the 228-run stand by Mohammad Hafeez and Imran Farhat (2011).

✅ Highest fourth-wicket partnership for Pakistan in ODIs, breaking the 206-run record by Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Yousuf (2009).

  1. 304 runs – Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq
  2. 263 runs – Inzamam-ul-Haq and Aamer Sohail

This chase wasn’t just about numbers. It was about grit, belief, and execution under pressure. Pakistan didn’t just beat South Africa—they made a statement. And with the final against New Zealand up next, this team looks ready for more fireworks.

Babar Azam Says ‘No More King’ – But Fans Might Disagree

babar-azam-breaks-half-century-drought-ms-dhoni-record

For years, Pakistan cricket fans have called Babar Azam the “King.” But the man himself? He’s not a fan of the title—at least, not yet.

After Pakistan’s thrilling six-wicket win over South Africa in the tri-nation ODI series, Babar made a humble request: “Stop calling me a king. I’m not a king yet.”

A Team Effort Seals the Win

Pakistan’s chase of 353 runs was nothing short of spectacular. Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha stole the show with magnificent centuries, guiding the team to a spot in the final against New Zealand.

But Babar’s own struggles continued. He managed just 23 runs before getting trapped lbw by Wiaan Mulder. For a batter of his caliber, it was another frustrating outing.

Babar Azam on His Form and Mindset

Speaking after the match, Babar admitted he’s disappointed with his recent form.

“Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to finish innings, but Rizwan and Salman played brilliantly today. Performances like these lift the team’s confidence.”

And when asked about his “king” nickname, he was clear:”Let’s see what people call me when I retire. For now, I just want to focus on my game.”

The former captain also talked about staying in the present and not dwelling on past performances. “If I keep thinking about what I’ve done before, I won’t perform in the future. Every day is a new challenge.”

Despite his request, fans are unlikely to stop calling him King Babar anytime soon. His class, consistency, and elegant strokeplay have earned him a place among the best in the world.

But for now, Babar wants to earn the title the hard way—through performances, not praise. And with the final against New Zealand coming up, he has the perfect chance to remind everyone why he’s regarded as one of Pakistan’s best.

Who is Marc Fogel: American Teacher Released by Russia

Who is Marc Fogel: American Teacher Released by Russia

American teacher Marc Fogel is home free and the political chumocracy has erupted in both celebration and criticism. Fogel spent over three years in a Russian jail on drug charges and was welcomed back to the US by President Trump in a “fair and reasonable” swap. But the details of the deal are murky and that’s got everyone asking what else have they given up.

A Political Strategy or Genuine Negotiation?

Fogel, a longtime teacher at the Anglo-American School in Moscow, was arrested in 2021 for having a small amount of medical cannabis prescribed for chronic back pain. Despite calls for his release he was kept in harsh conditions and served 14 years in a Russian labour camp. He was designated as “wrongfully detained” by the US State Department along with other high profile cases. Fogel was, however, excluded from previous prisoner swaps under the Biden administration.

Trump, flanked by national security officials, called it a big win for US-Russia relations. “It’s a sign we are moving in the right direction,” he said crediting Russian President Vladimir Putin for the deal. This has been met with criticism as it seems to treat Putin as a partner at a time of ongoing tensions over Ukraine.

Public and Political Reactions

The administration is remaining tight-lipped about the details of the deal, but speculation is widespread that a Russian national held in the U.S. was released in exchange. Previous prisoner swaps included arms dealers and intelligence operatives so it’s important to ask did the US give up too much to get Fogel back. Critics argue these deals embolden authoritarian regimes to detain American citizens as bargaining chips.

What’s Next for America-Russia Relations?

Adding to the intrigue is Trump’s special envoy for Middle East affairs Steve Witkoff who was involved in the negotiations with Russian intermediaries and Qatar. Is this a new strategy towards Russia or just a one off?

Once War-Torn Syria Reopens for Tourism

Once War-Torn Syria Reopens for Tourism

Following the end of a highly destructive war, with tour pioneers counting on the rebirth of tourism in the country, Syria is slowly but surely also coming back to the world. The revolution that took place in Syria in December 2024 and the subsequent fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime is of historic proportion and unprecedented. For the first time since the civil war broke out, international airlines are back in Damascus, signifying a bonding of the conflict-affected country with the world. However, fears concerning stability and security remain.

A Land Steeped in History

Syria was one of the world’s top tourist destinations, welcoming more than 10 million visitors a year before the onset of the war. Palmyra, the ancient city of legend, and the Krak des Chevaliers, the medieval fortress, are “enduring” symbols of Syria’s cultural and historical heritage. They have each survived centuries of conflict. Despite the setbacks of the civil war and ISIS, the recovery and preservation of these sites have now started, with tourism viewed as the primary driver for economic growth.

The Ethics and Risks of Visiting Syria

Syria is on a path to opening up. However, Western countries are still issuing a warning against travel to Syria based on the high-security risks. The new transitional government, which is ruled by a coalition of rebels, is still weak, and problems dealing with governance and stability continue. The argument of self-preservation/food shortages and/or political uncertainty, as well as the question of what is the future of the country, is an interesting one.

Despite these difficulties, travel agencies that are focused on unusual destinations are making plans, especially for history lovers. Regional providers think that the tourism industry of the country can be a vehicle for its economic recovery and shape its international image. However, the ethical considerations of visiting a country still fresh from peacekeeping are a matter of dispute.

A New Kind of Tourism

As opposed to pre-war guests who were eager to see Syria’s grand past, the recent history of conflict and resilience is what’s driving visitors to come there now.

Tours now include visits to former battlefields, bombed-out cities and even prisons once used by Assad’s regime. This ‘dark tourism’ trend is controversial but is seen as a way to educate the world about Syria’s past and the struggles of its people.

While uncertainty looms, Syrians like Ayoub Alsmadi, a Damascus-based tour operator, remain hopeful. “Tourism was the first to collapse in war, and it will be the last to recover. But it will return,” he shared. Whether Syria can sustain this revival remains to be seen, but for now, a new chapter in its history is being written—one that many hope will lead to lasting peace and prosperity.

Is Kanye West’s Career Finally Over?

Is Kanye West’s Career Finally Over?

Kanye West, once a dominant force in music and fashion, now finds himself at the centre of yet another controversy—one that might finally mark the end of his career. After a series of antisemitic bluster, Nazi-isms, and questionable business operations, West has been turned loose by the big sponsors, may be plagued with legal problems and will soon find his remaining support in the industry evaporating.

Shopify and Talent Agency Sever Ties

The e-commerce behemoth Shopify made the news closing down West’s online shop for good after he tried to sell a t-shirt with a swastika on it. This ignited a backlash with a Super Bowl ad showing viewers the site Yeezy.com, and the offensive merchandise came as a result of the platform’s violations of terms and service, “This merchant did not do genuine business activities.”

Simultaneously, talent agency 33&West stated that they would no longer represent West as a result of his inflammatory comments. His music agent, Daniel McCartney, posted to Instagram that the company is against West’s “harmful and hateful statements,” representing a strong rejection of the rapper’s conduct in the industry.

Legal Trouble and Workplace Allegations

Adding to West’s troubles, a former Yeezy marketer has filed a lawsuit against him, alleging workplace harassment, antisemitic remarks and discrimination. The lawsuit details disturbing behaviour, including West reportedly referring to himself as a Nazi, sending offensive messages and verbally abusing employees. The plaintiff claims she was fired after reporting his behaviour, raising further concerns about a toxic workplace culture.

A Career in Freefall?

This is not the first time that West’s behaviour has claimed a heavy price. In 2022, the trend led to Adidas, Balenciaga and Gap ending their relationship with him after the same antisemitic statements, which consequently led to the loss of his billionaire status. Nevertheless, the recent censure implies an even greater slump and, thereby, less chance for salvation.

Though West has, of course, been good at stirring up controversy, it may now be the case that against him, the tide turns. Given significant attention from major platforms, industry peers and former colleagues, his sustainability of relevance is under severe threat. Is this truly the end of Kanye West’s career, or will he find a way to reemerge once again?

Starbucks Sued by Missouri over Alleged Racial and Gender Bias

Starbucks Sued by Missouri over Alleged Racial and Gender Bias`

Starbucks was sued on Tuesday by the US state of Missouri, which accused the coffee chain of using a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as a pretext for systematic racism, gender bias and other factors.

In a complaint filed in St. Louis federal court, Missouri accused Starbucks of tying executive pay to the company’s achieving racial and gender-based hiring quotas. Starbucks was accused of targeting certain groups for extra training and job opportunities, and using a quota system for diverse representation on its board of directors.

“All of this is unlawful,” and violates federal and state civil rights laws, according to the complaint from Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey.

Bailey, a Republican, argued that Missouri consumers pay higher prices and wait longer for services at Starbucks than they would if the Seattle-based chain employed the most qualified workers.

“We disagree with the attorney general and these allegations are inaccurate,” Starbucks stated. “We are deeply committed to creating opportunity for every single one of our partners (employees). Our programmes and benefits are open to everyone and lawful.”

US President Donald Trump, also a Republican, has tried to shut down policies promoting diversity, equity and inclusion inside and outside the federal government. Some companies have taken action.

For example, the Wall Street bank Goldman Sachs on Tuesday cancelled a policy to take companies public only if they had two diverse board members, generally defined as people from underrepresented demographics.

It’s Not Just Starbucks

Last week, meanwhile, Google scrapped diversity-based hiring targets, Amazon.com removed a reference to inclusion and diversity from its annual report.

Tuesday’s lawsuit challenged Starbucks policies adopted since 2020, after the murder of George Floyd, a Black man, by a Minneapolis police officer triggered unrest nationwide.

Missouri said Starbucks’ alleged endorsement of quotas “should come as no surprise,” citing new Chief Executive Brian Niccol’s support of environmental, social and governance goals while leading the Chipotle burrito chain.

Starbucks employs about 211,000 people in the U.S. and 361,000 people worldwide.
In August 2023, a federal judge in Spokane, Washington dismissed a shareholder lawsuit challenging Starbucks’ diversity policies, saying the case addressed public policy questions best decided by lawmakers and companies, not courts.

Afghanistan’s Champions Trophy Setback: Ghazanfar Ruled Out, Kharote Steps In

afghanistan-champions-trophy-am-ghazanfar-ruled-out

Cricket can be cruel sometimes. One moment you’re preparing for a major tournament, and the next, an injury takes it all away. Afghanistan’s young spin sensation, AM Ghazanfar, is the latest victim of this harsh reality.

The 18-year-old spinner has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a fracture in the L4 vertebra. The injury, which he sustained during Afghanistan’s tour of Zimbabwe, will keep him out of action for at least four months.

That means he’s not only missing the Champions Trophy but also the IPL 2025, where he had just secured a maiden contract with Mumbai Indians.

Tough luck for the youngster, but the show must go on.

Enter Nangyal Kharote

With AM Ghazanfar out, Nangyal Kharote has been promoted from the reserves to Afghanistan’s main squad. The 20-year-old left-arm spinner hasn’t played for Afghanistan since their ODI series against Bangladesh in November 2024.

However, he made quite an impact in that series, especially in the second game, where he picked up 3 for 28 to help Afghanistan secure a win.

Kharote might not have a long international career yet, but his seven ODIs and six T20Is have shown glimpses of his potential. And now, he has a golden opportunity to prove himself on the big stage.

Afghanistan’s spin department is already facing a setback with Mujeeb Ur Rahman still out due to an ongoing injury. With both Mujeeb and Ghazanfar missing, Afghanistan’s bowling attack will lean heavily on Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, and now, Kharote.

Beerbiceps in Trouble: Is Freedom of Speech Going too Far?

Beer Biceps in Trouble: Is Freedom of Speech Going too Far?

On February 10, 2025, YouTube personality and content creator Ranveer Allahbadia, more popularly known as Beerbiceps, sparked controversy after telling an inappropriate joke on Samay Raina’s show, India’s Got Latent. Within no time, the joke began trending online with a lot of backlash and court trouble.

After the clip had gone viral, social media was filled with criticisms as many were apparently extremely disappointed with Allahbadia. FIRs were filed against him and others in the show, including influencer Apoorva Makhija and comedian Samay Raina, for “promoting obscenity.” The Mumbai Police initiated an investigation that heightened the public’s attention towards the show and its content.

Government Response and Free Speech Debate

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also added his two cents to the debate, stating that freedom of speech is there, but it doesn’t mean taking away someone else’s freedom. His statement fueled the debate regarding the limits of free speech and whether humour has its boundaries, especially on public platforms.

In response to the backlash, Ranveer issued a public apology, stating that he is “not a comic” and never intended to offend anyone. His apology failed to ease the outrage, as many highlighted the stark contrast between his typical content and the joke he made. His social media comment sections remain filled with disappointed followers questioning his judgment.

Dark Humour or Overstepping Boundaries?

This case has once again brought out the debate over dark humour- is it okay to joke about anything, no matter how fragile, under the pretext of comedy? The show’s proponents argue that comedy is personal and litigation over a joke is too much. On the other hand, some find that certain topics must not be joked about at all, especially those that encourage crudeness or insensitivity.

Similar Controversies in the Past

This is not the first instance when India’s Got Latent landed into trouble. An FIR had previously been filed against a contestant over remarks regarding the consumption of dog meat. Comedian Samay Raina was also targeted previously for his chuckles at off-colour jokes. The case does remind one of the obscenity cases that went against All India Bakchod in 2015, eventually forcing the group into oblivion.

With an ongoing investigation and mounting pressure, the future of India’s Got Latent hangs in the balance. Will it survive the backlash, or will it face the same fate as past controversial comedy groups? Only time will tell.
