iPhone 15’s Feature May Hold the Solution To iPhone 14’s Battery Challenges

Apple’s iPhone 14 users have been grappling with declining battery health, a concern that’s now gaining significant attention. Reports of maximum battery capacity dropping to as low as 88% after less than a year of usage have left some users frustrated. While Apple maintains that its devices are designed to retain up to 80% of their original capacity after 500 charge cycles, the diminishing battery life remains a significant issue.

The Power of 3nm Architecture

However, there’s a glimmer of hope on the horizon for iPhone enthusiasts worried about their device’s longevity. The forthcoming iPhone 15, set to feature the groundbreaking A17 Pro processor built on 3nm architecture, could mark a significant turning point for battery life.

iPhone 15’s 3nm Marvel

The iPhone 15’s 3nm architecture is groundbreaking, making it the smallest processor ever integrated into a smartphone. While the primary focus has been on enhancing the Pro series’ power, the implications for battery life are equally exciting.

Mark Liu, the chairman of the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, has suggested that this cutting-edge technology could lead to a remarkable 35% reduction in power consumption. Such an improvement could have a profound impact on the device’s overall battery life.

A Longer Battery Life

A17 chip for iPhone 15 may focus more on battery life than power
Source: 9to5Mac

To put this into perspective, the iPhone 14 Pro boasted a battery life of approximately 10 hours and 13 minutes. If we consider Liu’s estimate, this could potentially translate into an astounding 14 hours of battery life for the iPhone 15 Pro, raising the bar significantly.

While it’s true that the A17 Pro with 3nm architecture will initially be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro models, history suggests that this technology will eventually trickle down to lower-tier iPhone models.

In the previous generation, the iPhone 14 featured the A15 chip, while the iPhone 14 Pro boasted the A16. This pattern suggests that the iPhone 15 may receive the A16 chip, leaving room for anticipation that the iPhone 16 could also adopt the A17 chip.

The Real-world Impact

If this speculation holds true, it could mean exceptional battery life improvements across the entire iPhone lineup in the future. The iPhone 15 Pro’s launch will provide further insights into the real-world impact of the 3nm architecture on battery life, but the prospects are undeniably exciting.

As Apple continues to push the boundaries of technology, users can look forward to not only more powerful devices but also longer-lasting batteries, ensuring that their iPhones remain reliable companions throughout the day.

[London, 12th September 2023]: Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, in collaboration with Google Arts & Culture, and the British Council, proudly launched ‘Pakistan’s Museum of Food’, a digital hub featuring the rich and diverse culinary landscape of Pakistan.

‘Pakistan’s Museum of Food’ is the largest and most comprehensive exploration of Pakistani cuisine online, featuring over 9000 Images, over  90 videos and over 100 stories that capture the vibrant culinary tapestry of Pakistan’s five provinces and beyond, seamlessly interwoven with recipes from the diaspora, an essential contribution from their UK-based co-creators, W.M.Legacy. The project aims to preserve and celebrate the culture and heritage of Pakistani food, as well as to document its dynamic evolution and progression.

Project Director, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, said, “Pakistan’s culinary heritage is an intrinsic part of the country’s cultural identity, but with the passing of generations and the challenges brought about by climate change, certain domestic practices and traditional recipes are at high risk of being lost. In response to this looming crisis, we embarked on a mission to not just reminisce about the flavors of yesteryears, but to actively preserve and revitalize the vanishing recipes and customs that define our past. We hope that this project will inspire people to explore, appreciate, and enjoy the vibrant culinary culture, lineage and food practices of Pakistan, as well as to contribute their own stories and recipes to this living narrative.”

Amit Sood, the Director and founder of Google Arts & Culture, said “An online feast for the senses, we’re thrilled to unveil our latest exhibition on Google Arts & Culture dedicated to the vibrant flavors and rich culture of Pakistan. From the mountains of the north to the bazaars of the south, Pakistan is a land of diverse landscapes and traditions, all of which are reflected in its cuisine. We hope users can fully immerse themselves in the many wonders of this amazing country through our largest digital hub about Pakistan, developed in close collaboration with Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and the British Council”

The Director Arts Pakistan at the British Council, Laila Jamil said: “We are delighted to have supported this important project highlighting Pakistan’s diverse culinary practices which have been beautifully collated and shared by our partners. This support was possible through our Gender Ecologies Grant Programme, which explores the intersection of women, climate change and the arts.  Food cultures give us insights into people’s customs, agricultural traditions, climatic conditions and their flora and fauna. They also have a direct impact on our health, the health of our planet and our understanding of self. We hope this ‘Museum of Food’ acts as a platform to inspire a wider effort to collect and share these practices and a chance to explore the stories that come with them.”

Together with Google Arts & Culture, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and her team explored the genesis of iconic dishes across all five provinces, capturing the essence of Pakistan’s culinary and cultural diversity. From the coastal allure of Gwadar’s seafood to Multan’s decadent Sohan Halwa, and the innovative incorporation of yak meat in Hunza, the crew traveled through Pakistan’s varried terrain to illuminate how regional topography molds the nation’s distinct eating patterns. Venturing to a multitude of eateries across the country, Sharmeen and her cohort of filmmakers aimed to capture the essence of traditional dining practices while tracing the nuanced impact of modernization on the nation’s evolving taste palate. As the project celebrates Pakistan’s culinary heritage and its dynamic progression, it embraces a collaborative spirit, inviting individuals to join in its pursuit to archive Pakistan’s culinary landscape.

‘I think now this thing has a solid standing in a certain class and has become very common. However, fifty years ago when my eldest sister Neelam was getting married my father was the first one to discuss this thing. He was very intellectual and had massive knowledge about Islam since he studied it very deeply.’ She said.

‘The amount of rights women have in Islam is unexplainable. I can’t even discuss them. A husband has a major responsibility towards his wife. We don’t want to hear and people don’t want to discuss.’

WhatsApp Aims for Cross-Platform Messaging Integration

Source: 9to5Mac

WhatsApp has once again captured the tech world’s attention with its recent Android beta update, version 2.23.19.8. While routine updates are common in the world of apps, this one introduces a new feature called “Third-party chats.” A closer look at this seemingly ordinary addition, however, reveals that WhatsApp may be on the cusp of enabling encrypted messaging across diverse platforms.

The Clues Within the Beta Update

WABetaInfo, a reputable source for WhatsApp-related news and updates, is the bearer of this exciting revelation. The mere presence of a “Third-party chats” section within the update’s code hints at Meta’s, WhatsApp’s parent company, exploration of cross-platform encrypted messaging—a development that could reshape the way we communicate digitally.

Regulatory Winds of Change

The timing of this beta release is particularly noteworthy. It comes at a pivotal moment for Meta, as the European Commission recently acknowledged the company as a “gatekeeper” under the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). This designation comes with specific obligations, one of which is to facilitate interoperability with third-party messaging apps. Meta is expected to achieve this by March 2024.

The Digital Markets Act (DMA) has a clear mandate: prevent gatekeepers like Meta from imposing unfair conditions and ensure the openness of vital digital services. As a consequence, Meta will need to empower its users to uninstall pre-installed apps and explore alternative app stores—a significant departure from the norm.

Strategic Response

In response to the DMA’s requirements, both Meta and tech behemoth Microsoft are gearing up to launch their mobile app stores. This strategic move underscores their commitment to comply with the European Commission’s regulations while maintaining their competitive edge in the dynamic world of digital services.

With its colossal user base, WhatsApp is poised to play a pivotal role in Meta’s ambitions for cross-platform messaging. While the specifics of this feature remain shrouded in mystery, it’s clear that WhatsApp users can anticipate a future of more seamless and secure communication experiences that transcend the confines of different platforms. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, WhatsApp’s dedication to innovation promises exciting developments for its global user community. Keep an eye out for updates as this thrilling journey unfolds.

USB-C Pitfalls: iPhone 15 Cable Chaos Ahead

Source: Wirel

Since its introduction in the 2016 MacBook Pro, USB-C has become ubiquitous across the technology landscape, promising unparalleled versatility in both charging and data transfer. Over the years, USB-C has made its way into almost every device, from laptops to smartphones, becoming a standard feature in our lives. However, the convenience of USB-C also brings its own set of complications, and millions of customers will now get to experience these firsthand with the expected release of the iPhone 15.

The Confounding Nature of USB-C

USB-C’s charm lies in its ability to serve multiple functions, but this versatility can lead to confusion. The problem arises when users are unsure about the capabilities of the USB-C port on their devices or the cables they use. It’s not always clear whether a device or cable supports high-speed data transfer, high electrical power for fast charging, both, or neither.

The iPhone 15 is rumored to ship with a USB-C port and charging cable that can charge effectively but will transfer data at a modest 480 megabytes per second. This is significantly slower than what USB-C is capable of, reflecting the challenges of the USB ecosystem. USB-C offers faster and more versatile connections compared to Apple’s Lightning port, but this transition may come with some hiccups for Apple customers.

USB-C standardisation will not solve the problem of electronic waste | Nokiamob
Source: Nokiamob

Deciphering USB Standards

The USB ecosystem itself is part of the problem, as it encompasses three separate standards: Universal Serial Bus (USB), USB-C, and USB Power Delivery (USB PD). USB originally debuted in 1996, offering a top speed of 12Mbps. USB 2.0 followed in 2000, providing faster data transfer at 480Mbps. USB 3.0 in 2008 brought speeds of 5 gigabits per second, ideal for external hard drives. USB 4 is the latest iteration, reaching up to 40Gbps, with USB 4 version 2 promising 80Gbps in the future.

USB-C, on the other hand, refers to the oval-shaped connector technology and has seen improvements over time, gradually equating USB-C with high-speed data transfer. Lastly, USB PD manages how USB is used for charging, supporting rates up to 240W.

Quality Control and Cost Factors

The existence of these three standards makes it challenging for users to understand the capabilities of their devices and cables. Moreover, many manufacturers, in a bid to cut costs and expedite product releases, forgo certification from the USB Implementers Forum. Unlike Intel’s Thunderbolt, which mandates passing tests, USB-C products can vary significantly in quality.

Goodbye, Lightning Cable: How to Prepare for Your First USB-C iPhone | PCMag
Source: PCMac

Cost is another factor contributing to USB-C’s issues. High-speed data support and high-power charging are more expensive to implement in cables, and cheaper “charging cables” often lack the extra capabilities. Even cables provided by Apple with MacBooks may prioritize charging over data transfer speed.

USB-C in the Wireless Age

Despite these challenges, most iPhone 15 owners won’t be significantly affected by the use of a USB 2.0 cable. As data transfer methods have evolved, users increasingly rely on mobile networks, Wi-Fi, and wireless transfer methods like AirDrop, reducing the need for high-speed data cables.

USB-C’s versatility in charging and data transfer has transformed the technology landscape. However, its complex ecosystem and varying standards have led to complications that users must navigate. While the iPhone 15 may introduce some users to the limitations of USB-C, the majority will find that the slower cable speed is a minor inconvenience in an era when wireless data transfer methods have become the norm. USB-C remains a powerful tool, but understanding its capabilities and investing in quality cables is essential for a seamless experience in the ever-connected world of technology.

Get Ready for Apple’s 2023 Event: iPhone 15 & Beyond!

On September 12, at 10 AM PT, the tech world’s eyes will be fixated on One Apple Park Way as Tim Cook and his team prepare to showcase the latest gadgets ahead of the holiday season. As the anticipation builds, let’s take a look at what’s in store for the big Apple event.

Among the sure bets for the event are the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9. These iconic products are expected to take center stage, offering consumers a glimpse of what’s to come in the world of smartphones and wearables.

iPhone 15: Embracing USB-C

The most prominent announcement is likely to be the iPhone 15, and what makes it even more intriguing is that Apple didn’t make this change by choice. The European Union (EU) played a significant role in this shift by standardizing ports across devices. While manufacturers were given until the end of 2024 to implement this technology, all signs point to Apple adopting USB-C for the iPhone 15. This change aligns with growing consumer advocacy and e-waste concerns worldwide.

Source: Tech Crunch

Apple’s decision to shift away from the Lightning connector, which has been a staple for a decade, is a significant move. Many users and tech enthusiasts have criticized the Lightning connector, making this change a welcome one for many.

Interestingly, reports suggest that the higher USB 3.2 data speed will be reserved for the pro models, while the standard iPhone 15 may stick with USB 2.0, which is still common in the Android realm. Additionally, wireless charging is expected to receive a boost, reaching 35W across all models. Apple may adopt the Qi2 standard, which combines wireless charging with magnets, a feature that aligns with Apple’s history in the Wireless Power Consortium.

The Dynamic Island feature, initially introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, is also expected to make its way to the standard models, enhancing user experiences.

iPhone 15 Ultra

Another exciting addition to the lineup is the rumored iPhone 15 Ultra, set to replace the Pro Max. This model is anticipated to feature a 6.7-inch display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, thinner bezels, and a new “Action” button, replacing the traditional Mute button. This button, borrowed from the Apple Watch Ultra, offers various customizable shortcuts, enhancing user accessibility and control.

Apple Watch Series 9

While the rumor mill has been relatively quiet regarding the Apple Watch, it’s still likely to see some updates. The Apple Watch Series 9 and the Ultra 2 are expected to receive new processors and color options. There’s also speculation about Apple considering 3D printing for case design, following the Vision Pro’s lead. However, given the mass-market appeal of the Apple Watch, the scalability of 3D printing remains a question.

AirPods and Beyond

AirPods enthusiasts might finally get a treat, although it’s more likely to happen in 2024 with the introduction of the H2 chip. However, a standalone USB-C charging case could be on the horizon. Additionally, it’s been almost three years since the AirPods Max release, so a new iteration could also be in the works. Lastly, an updated HomePod mini could make an appearance.

Other Expectations

The Apple event could provide a deeper look at the Vision Pro headset, offering a closer glimpse of its capabilities. The content for this spatial computing headset remains a mystery, but given its early 2024 market release, demos might be in store. As the SDK and Unity’s development platform have had time to mature, gaming-related announcements are also a possibility.

Lastly, the event might shed light on release dates for iOS, macOS, iPadOS, and watchOS updates. While Mac updates may not be the focus this time, the M3 chip could be a highlight in 2024.

As the Apple event approaches, tech enthusiasts around the world eagerly await these exciting revelations, setting the stage for a holiday season filled with innovative Apple products.

Pakistani Brands Jump On The ‘Tum Se Na Ho Payega’ Campaign By KFC

What started as a brand campaign has turned into a social media banter and the whole scenario is hilarious, to say the least. KFC’s campaign ‘Tum Se Na Ho Payega’ has food brands rolling out their response to the statement and here’s everything that went down.

KFC – The King Of Fried Chicken?

The king of fried chicken KFC rolled out a statement ‘Tum se na ho payega’ alongside many reasons why other brands can’t top their level of fried chicken. Whether it was a targeted dig at other brands or a mere statement, is not known. However, brands took notice and responded to the food giant’s statement with a twist of their own.

This situation has ignited discussions about the effectiveness of U.S. export controls, which were originally implemented to hinder Huawei’s access to state-of-the-art components such as advanced processors. Until recently, these restrictions had effectively stymied Huawei’s smartphone business. In fact, prior to the U.S. sanctions, the company was well on its way to becoming a global smartphone powerhouse, even outselling Apple in Europe in 2018.

U.S. Department of Commerce Investigates

The U.S. Department of Commerce has confirmed that it is actively investigating the new Huawei phone and the technology it employs, particularly the 7nm chip. A Commerce official emphasized that export controls are just one of the tools in the government’s arsenal to address national security threats posed by the People’s Republic of China.

Global Tech and Geopolitical Tensions

The release of Huawei’s new phone coincides with ongoing tensions and competition between the U.S. and China across various fronts, including geopolitical issues such as the status of Taiwan and the conflict in Ukraine. U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo’s recent visit to Beijing aimed at improving trade relations underscores the complexity of this relationship.

To understand the implications of the Mate 60 Pro’s success and the U.S. investigation, it’s essential to grasp Huawei’s background and why the U.S. imposed export restrictions. Founded in 1987, Huawei has grown into one of the world’s largest telecommunications companies, operating in 170 countries and employing over 200,000 people. However, its products remain largely inaccessible to American consumers due to concerns about national security, with AT&T and Verizon ceasing distribution of Huawei devices in 2018.

The Mate 60 Pro: A Game-Changer for Huawei

The Mate 60 Pro, Huawei’s latest addition to its Mate smartphone line, is equipped with a 7nm chip manufactured by SMIC. This marks a significant achievement for China’s domestic design and manufacturing capabilities, according to analysts. The phone boasts remarkable features, including rapid download speeds faster than current top-of-the-line 5G phones, satellite support, a sizable OLED screen, a 5,000mAh battery, and a starting price of $900.

Rivalry and Market Dynamics

For Apple, this comes at a critical moment as it prepares to unveil its latest iPhone, the iPhone 15. China represents about 20% of Apple’s revenue, making it one of its most crucial markets. In addition to renewed competition from Huawei, Apple is grappling with new restrictions from the Chinese government, including reports of government employees being prohibited from using iPhones. This news caused Apple’s market value to drop by around $200 billion.

Assessing the Apple Factor

However, some experts argue that concerns about the impact of a government ban on Apple are exaggerated. Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives believes that even in a worst-case scenario, any potential ban would have a limited impact on iPhone sales in China, given the vast scale of the market.

Huawei’s Mate 60 Pro is creating a stir in China’s smartphone market and causing concern in the United States. This situation raises questions about the effectiveness of export controls and highlights the complex relationship between the U.S. and China, with potential repercussions for Apple and its presence in the Chinese market.

10 Stereotypes About Karachi Grammar School That Aren’t True!

10 Stereotypes About Karachi Grammar School That Aren’t True!

Karachi Grammar School, also known as KGS, is one of Pakistan’s most prestigious schools. It is also filled with a bunch of privileged, elite children, right? Wrong!

Over the years, Grammarians have been facing prejudice from other students, whether it be at competitions or social events

Many a time, the judgmental attitude of other children is evident through their words and actions.

Here we have decided to put an end to the prejudice and clear out some misconceptions about Grammarians.

1. We are the biggest snobs on the planet

Everyone thinks we believe we are better than others and that we think no end of ourselves. However, it might surprise you that not all of us are arrogant and most of us do not conform to this stuck up impression.

2. We are spoilt, rich brats

Most people think that everything is handed to us on a silver platter and that we’re nothing but a bunch of millionaires taking everything for granted. But let me assure you, all the students in KGS have diverse backgrounds and work equally hard to achieve success.

3. All of us are burgers

People believe that we glorify western cultures and are clueless of our own but the truth is, that here in KGS, we could not be prouder of our heritage. And yes, we do wear shalwar kameez and eat daal chaawal.

4. Urdu is a foreign language for us

Majority of the people are under the impression that we don’t understand a single word of our native tongue and fake an accent while attempting to speak it. Well, let’s just say we are as fluent in Urdu as we are in English and would surprise you anytime, any day.

5. Associating with people from lesser known schools is social suicide for us.

Students from other schools often believe that we are extremely exclusive. On the contrary, we do not look down on those who are not “blessed” with the “privilege” of being a Grammarian. KGS students are actually quite friendly and welcoming.

6. We constantly party.

People think Grammarians spends their weekends partying the night away. I hate to break it to you, but the reality is that we spend all our vacations studying for the endless test weeks.

Oh, but we do make time for some Netflix sessions.

7. We win everything

No doubt hard work is one of our strengths, KGS does not always bag the first prize when it comes to competitions. We are just as clueless as you are. We are not invincible. Karachi Grammar School does lose… sometimes.

8. And the achievements we do earn are because of our name.

Students from other schools tend to believe that judges are biased towards us, regardless of whether we have the talent or not. This misconception could not be further from the truth than it already is. Every achievement the school has ever earned is through hard work and hours of dedication.

9. Grammarians only travel abroad and have no desire to explore Pakistan.

Nope. Not True. This picture from last year’s school trip to Nathia Gali will serve as proof to that.

10. Those who have money and connections are guaranteed admission in the school

Every year, a number of aspiring students are admitted into the school after being tested and interviewed. These determined individuals are willing to make a difference and our varied student body reiterates that. Hope this information clears all your prejudice.

In conclusion, not every one of us conforms to these typical stereotypes that all Grammarians are labeled with. Instead, we encourage open-mindedness and acceptance.
