Asia Cup 2022 Live: Naseem Shah, the wonder kid pulls off a miracle against Afghanistan

Naseem Shah

Naseem Shah, the teenager from Lower Dir, is known for disturbing batters with his raw pace, but who knew that this kid could pull off a miracle with the bat too. He sent the whole Pakistan nation into a frenzy, with two mighty sixes to book Pakistan’s ticket to the final of the Asia Cup.

Sharjah stadium was on its feet when Fazalhaq Farooqi came to bowl the last over for Afghanistan against Pakistan’s last two batters (Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain) requiring eleven runs to win. There was little hope in the Pakistan camp, and Afghanistan had confidence on their side, along with the expectations and prayers of Indians. Afghanistan’s victory could have left a chance for India to still qualify for the finals.

Farooqi approaches his bowling mark for the last over, with the bowling figures of 3-19 off his last three overs, his wickets included captain Babar Azam, Mohammad Nawaz, and Khushdil Shah. Naseem Shah on the other hand was feeling the heat, after the dismissal and an ugly altercation between Asif Ali and  the Afghan bowler in the last over.

Naseem takes guard, Farooqi sprints to the bowling crease, strides in, and misses the yorker length. Naseem swings the bat, it connects, and out goes the ball… right into the hands of Afghan fans in the stands. But the victory was still one hit away.

On the next ball, another full toss, another swing, and for the briefest fraction in time, the ball hovers in the air within reach of the long-off fielder. The hopes of the three nations were up in the air, however, like the climax of a Bollywood sports movie, the ball teases everyone from the fielder to the batter to the fans, and lands just outside the boundary line for the six.

Naseem knew that he has pulled off a miracle, just like Miandad did back in 1986 on the same Sharjah soil. The adrenaline rush was visible on his face, he drops his bat, and helmet while sprinting towards the onrushing Pakistan players and staff.

On the other side, the Afghanistan team was on their knees, some of them were crying having come so close yet so far from victory. They have fought hard to defend the small total of 130 against an experienced Pakistani batting line up. They looked like a formidable bowling unit, under the mentorship of Umar Gul, even though they are out of Asia Cup, but the way they have bowled is an alarming sign for every team in the upcoming World T20 in Australia.

Pakistan team was confident about chasing this total easily, after chasing 181 runs against India in the last game. The fans expected a one-sided affair, however, Pakistan batting collapsed against Afghan bowlers, keeping their unpredictable title intact. They looked clueless against spinners, scoring only 59 runs off 11 overs. Shadab Khan, who was promoted to the No. 5 spot, was the only man who posed a threat to Afghan spinners. However, once he perished, Afghanistan dominated the game again.

This was a game to remember for Pakistan for ages, just like the game against India in Asia Cup 2014 when Shahid Afridi sealed the deal with two sixes to Ashwin in the final over. Team India was also knocked out from Asia Cup 2022 with this loss for Afghanistan, as they were banking on Afghanistan to stop Pakistan in their tracks to reach the finals. However, with the result, the next two Super Four games turn dead rubbers now. India will face Afghanistan, while Pakistan and Sri Lanka will square off once before meeting again in the finals of the Asia Cup.

iPhone 14 Plus

Apple has announced two models this time. The iPhone 14 Plus replaces the older “iPhone 13 mini” model with a bigger model with a 6.7-inch screen. The Plus will cost $899. However, while the orders for it open at the same time as the other model, the Plus model won’t ship until October, though.

Airpods

Apple CEO, Tim Cook, also unveiled a new version of the company’s noise-canceling wireless earbuds, the AirPods Pro. These ones go on sale on September 23 for $249. Not bad! Apple claims that this is because of an Apple H2 chip, an improvement over the H1 chip used in the prior generation.

Do you want to know the new characteristics? They include: a new touch-based volume control.

and a longer battery life with a listening time of up to 6 hours. Moreover, they also have an even more minute ear tip with the ability to utilise MagSafe chargers to recharge.

What’s Going On?

Researchers announced on Monday that a smartphone app can accurately identify COVID-19 infection in people’s voices using artificial intelligence (AI). Basically, the software can be utilised in low-income nations where PCR tests are expensive. The other issue can be the challenges to deliver the tests. This is because the app is cheaper, quicker, and easier to use than numerous antigen testing. However, how many people have access to phones and thus, apps in such nations?

Wafaa Aljbawi is a researcher at the Institute of Data Science at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. She said, “The encouraging results suggest that simple voice recordings and fine-tuned AI algorithms can potentially achieve high precision in determining which patients have COVID-19 infection.” The app also supports virtual, remote testing and has a turnaround time of under a minute. The app could be used for instance, at the entrances to huge gatherings to enable quick population screening.

Why Does It Work?

The science behind it is that the COVID-19 infection typically impacts the upper respiratory tract and vocal cords. They change a person’s voice. Aljbawi and her superiors made the decision to look into the viability of using AI to analyze voices in order to identify COVID-19. It’s the day and age of technology and this is how it is used for everybody’s benefit!

They used information from the crowd-sourced COVID-19 Sounds App from the University of Cambridge. It includes 893 audio samples from 4,352 healthy and unhealthy subjects, of whom 308 had tested positive for COVID-19. The researchers then used a method for analysing voice known as Mel-spectrogram analysis. This distinguishes several voice characteristics like loudness, power, and fluctuation across time. As a result, COVID-19 can be detected through the changes in these factors of sound.

The Feasibility

If this were to become a thing, it could not only make testing easier but also control the spread of the virus. Would you download the app?

Samsung Trolls Apple Right Before The Launch Of iPhone 14

Have you seen Samsung’s latest official ad for its Galaxy S22 Ultra and ZFlip4? The new phone is already incredible as it is but the tech company could not have launched it in a better way. It’s always fun when big companies mock each other harmlessly in their advertisements and this one has to be our latest favorite instance:

Read more: 7 Campaigns By KitKat That Have Proved To Be Iconic

What Happened?

Next week, Apple will formally introduce the iPhone 14. However, there won’t be any new features or innovations. These are not our own words but Samsung’s! Samsung wants you to think the following in its newest advertisement for the Galaxy S22 Ultra and ZFlip4: “This new technology won’t be available on an iPhone near you.” The company sold its phone to its new users by highlighting its unique features saying none of this is with Apple.

What Does The Ad Say?

The emphasis of Samsung’s latest advertisement is on the unique features of the Galaxy S22 Ultra and ZFlip4. It does it in a way that leads you to believe that the iPhone 14 will include these new features, saying:

“Buckle up for Apple’s latest launch as you enter a world where heads will turn, just not in your direction. Where the highest resolution camera on a smartphone will be in someone else’s pocket. And that epic moonshot that’s getting all the likes won’t be yours. Because this innovation is not coming soon to an iPhone near you. It’s already here in the galaxy.”

Isn’t this harmless, so funny, and interesting? It’s peak marketing and the best part is this isn’t the first time Samsung has done it.

Does Samsung Keep Doing This?

Prior to Apple’s big events and new product debuts, Samsung frequently teases the company. One of Samsung’s most well-known advertising campaigns took place in 2017. That was when the company relentlessly made fun of the iPhone X’s notch, the absence of a headphone jack, and other features. However, Samsung frequently ends up embracing many of the modifications and features that it originally derided Apple for doing. So this is all fun and games!

Be honest, are you also one of those people who saw this ad because of this whole Samsung and Apple fight? It does bring in the views!

Salaam Takaful Limited Signs UNEP-FI Principles for Sustainable Insurance

Salaam Takaful Limited, being the largest dedicated general takaful operator and first Islamic insurtech in Pakistan, is committed to serve not only its policyholders but also the world they operate in. That is the reason they have been one of the most vocal supporters of ESG and its true practitioners in the country.

Its most recent feat in this regard is its inclusion as one of the prestigious signatories in the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP-FI) Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI). By doing so, Salaam Takaful has the distinction of being one of the first Islamic financial institutions to become signatory to UNEP FI’s PSI.

Salaam Takaful believes that Islamic finance and ESG are confluent in terms of the impact of stewardship and shared value and the takaful industry has an important role to play in bridging the gap between Islamic finance and ESG.

Endorsed by the UN Secretary-General, the Principles for Sustainable Insurance have led to the largest collaborative initiative between the UN and the insurance industry—the PSI Initiative. Over 220 organisations worldwide have adopted the four Principles for Sustainable Insurance, including insurers representing about one-third of world premium volume and USD15 trillion in assets under management. The Principles are part of the insurance industry criteria of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices and FTSE4Good.

“We are delighted that Salaam Takaful is the first takaful company to sign the UNEP-FI’s Principles for Sustainable Insurance. Becoming a signatory to the PSI aligns both with our focus on mainstreaming takaful and to become part of a global network of insurance stakeholders who consider ESG along their entire value chain by embedding environmental, social and governance objectives in their core business,” said Rizwan Hussain, Managing Director & CEO of Salaam Takaful Limited.

Why Do Foldable Phones Recieve Backlash?

Samsung’s foldable phone became the new IT thing ever since it launched last year and turned out to be the proud proprietor of foldable phones, the Samsung Galaxy Flip3.

For those that are unfamiliar, that is a smartphone-sized software that folds in part. While many had been looking forward to such a device ever since the Motorola Razr clamshell of 2004.

The Issue With Foldable Phone

Just over a year of the launch of the Samsung foldable phone the dream of owning the Samsung phone shattered as the ‘fold’ line all at once changed into significantly wider and grew to become silver a few days in the past, the decrease part of the display grew to become inexperienced, the higher part changed into unresponsive, and an ominous black cloud started to develop throughout the display.

“I’m no longer by myself; there are many folks online who’ve had an identical story. One Reddit consumer just lately said that their logo new device shattered after 5 hours.”

According to Samsung, the present iteration must be ready to resist 200,000 folds.

Foldable Phones Durability

The durability of Samsung’s foldable phones has been in question for a long time. Back in 2019, when foldable phones have been debuted with a lot of enthusiasm. There was once a lot of trade hypothesis that this can be the software that will resurrect a stagnant smartphone trade, create a new buzz around handsets, and convince other folks to improve, despite information indicating that they have been keeping directly to their phones for longer, uninspired by means of homogeneous black rectangles.

“I haven’t observed a lot of broken foldable,” says Ben Wood of CCS Insight, “however at a time when other folks in the UK are conserving their phones for 4 years or extra, customers are on the hunt for phones that last more.”

While Samsung claims to have sold over 10 million foldable phones by 2021, and there’s unquestionably a web following for the devices. According to shopper information supplier Statista, Apple sold greater than 49 million iPhones in the best 3 months that very same 12 months. This shows that folding handsets stay a reasonably minor part of the multibillion-dollar smartphone trade and the situation might not change anytime soon.

Here’s What These Cities Are Doing To Protect Themselves From Extreme Heat

The entire world has been facing blistering heat waves. From the United States to Europe and China to Japan, extreme temperatures have soared for weeks, killing hundreds of people, sparking wildfires in Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, and Greece and displacing thousands of residents, as many seek refuge in public cooling centres.

Air conditioners might keep the indoors cool, but they only add to the heat outdoors. And in most cases, they are adding to the climate crisis by increasing planet-warming emissions. Public transportation may be unbearable on a hot day, but driving a car that runs on gas instead just worsens traffic, also adding to heat and emissions. A lack of trees means a lack of shade, and buildings made of dark materials bring hotter interiors, which means more air conditioning.

Here’s a look at a few of the more promising ideas that cities around the world have been pursuing to try to beat the heat.

1. Abu Dhabi – Self-Shading Tower Block

Mashrabiya refers to the latticed screens often seen in Islamic architecture, sometimes surrounding a small balcony, that diffuses sunlight and keeps buildings cool without completely blocking light. They are designed to encourage a breeze and offer a spot of respite from the heat within a building. The idea is essentially to stop direct sunlight from landing on a building’s exterior.

That’s what inspired the design of Al Bahar Towers, a 25-story building wrapped in more than 1,000 hexagonal shades with built-in sensors that allow them to respond to the sun’s movements. When the sun hits the shades, they unfold like an umbrella to ward off the heat. Without these measures, the outside of such a building in Abu Dhabi could reach as high as 200 degrees (around 90 Celsius).

2. Paris – Cool Islands

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo has been credited with putting in place some of the world’s most innovative measures to combat the heat, and the city’s heat plan is truly comprehensive.

The main result is a city full of ‘cool islands.’ Parisians can use an app called EXTREMA to guide them to more than 800 cool spots — parks, water fountains and air-conditioned museums, for example — and get there via a naturally cooled walkway. The idea is that a cool island is always at a maximum walking distance of seven minutes for everyone.

3. Vienna – Cooling Trees

Like in much of Europe, many in Vienna don’t have air conditioning, so water is a big part of how the Austrian capital keeps cool.

For those who don’t have time for a dip in the Danube, the city offers cooling parks with mist-spraying “trees” that people can either “shower” in, or just sit near to enjoy the cooler temperatures they bring their surroundings.

4. Miami – Target Heat Traps

Neat Streets Miami, a board convened by the county council, recognized that bus stops had become real danger zones during heat waves, so they planted trees around 10 stops. They wrote a guide on which trees work best and where to plant them so that other areas could replicate the project.

And that they have. There are now 71 green bus stops in the country, most of them by communities that applied to the government for resources to green their bus stops.

5. Rotterdam – Green Rooftops

Planting greenery on rooftops can help cities keep cool. Rotterdam in the Netherlands took the initiative to demonstrate this with the Rotterdam Rooftop Walk. Water storage along with vegetation is expected to reduce the incidence of flooding. The city hopes to green over 900,000 square metres of rooftops.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, green roofs can reduce ambient temperatures in a city by up to 15C.

6. Los Angeles – Paint The Town White

This one is a little more controversial. Some cities have experimented with painting rooftops white to reflect sunlight and keep buildings cool, but Los Angeles went a step further and is painting entire roads white. Dark things like asphalt absorb sunlight and emit that energy back into the air as heat. Painting the asphalt white would theoretically nip that process in the bud, and lead to cooler air temperatures.

Here’s How You Can Persuade People To Change Their Behaviour

people change behaviour

Governments recently were tasked with changing people’s behaviors when the pandemic hit. Don’t go out, wear a mask. Directives were everywhere. While all of these changes were for people’s betterment, people are less likely to respond to directives. So, here’s how you can influence people’s behaviors and why directives don’t work:

Read more: Blue Therapy: Here’s How It Can Help Boost Mental Health

Why Don’t Directives Work?

Because we all like to feel in control of our decisions, directives aren’t particularly helpful in causing prolonged behavior change. They work in the short term. Why did I use that service, purchase that item, or carry out that action? Because of personal likes and dislikes.

Therefore, when someone tries to sway our opinions, we don’t just go along; instead, we resist their persuasion. We do the things people ask us not to do. We avoid following their advice because we don’t want to feel like they are in charge of us. It’s about feeling in control of our decisions and actions.

Ask Questions Instead

The same idea might be expressed as a question, such as, “Do you believe not wearing a mask will not harm anyone?” If someone responds “no,” they are suddenly in a difficult situation. Encouraging everybody to express their viewpoint allows them to set down a marker and declare that such things aren’t good for them. It allows for self-reflection and self-improvement.

Highlight Inconsistencies

You could also highlight the inconsistency in their beliefs and actions. You could do this by highlighting a gap between people’s ideas and deeds. You can also show them that what they may advise others to do and what they really carry out are very different. This way you might give them a greater sense of independence and power.

Make Your Requests Smaller

Big requests and substantial ones are frequently declined. They enter what scientists refer to as “the area of rejection” and are rejected because they are so different from what people are doing at the moment. You can’t ask somebody addicted to something to drop it the same day. Instead, ask them to reduce their daily intake for example!

It would be preferable to scale back the first request. Ask for less at first, then more later. Divide a challenging request into smaller, more manageable portions.

Are colleges becoming more open to the concept of holding classes in the metaverse after two years of Zoom classes? It sure seems like it. What began as a revolutionary technology only for the gaming world has now enveloped education too. With $150 million invested, Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta is leading the charge in education in the metaverse.

What’s The Experience Like?

The ability to leave your physical reality and fully immerse yourself in a digitally generated environment is what it feels like. According to Muhsinah Morris, the project’s chief investigator, “it might occur in any timeframe and anywhere in the world.” One of the 10 so-called metaversities that offers classes via VR headgear in a virtual classroom is the historically Black college in Atlanta.

Universities Come Around

Reportedly, for years, colleges and universities have toyed with the idea of employing virtual reality as a teaching tool. However, the finances have helped them back. The headsets were large and expensive. Moreover, it is expensive and takes talented engineers to create efficient virtual learning environments.

Zuckerberg has offered ten institutions free admission to the metaverse this autumn as part of Meta, the parent company of Facebook. One of these universities is the University of Maryland Global Campus. It is the only university that takes in more than 45,000 undergraduate students to attend the online-only institution. As a university, it lacks physical classrooms or student life areas. The new project by meta has lent numerous headsets to them too.

What’s The Campus Like?

The virtual campus is clearly a college campus and was created by VictoryXR. It has an extended reality education software firm headquartered in Davenport, Iowa. There are white-columned Georgian-style buildings encircle a lush lawn that is vivid green. Two mallard ducks are chasing a pond in the middle. If you have the stomach for it, you can enjoy a ride on a rope swing that hangs from a tree.

Does this project sound like something you’d be up for? It seems in the near future, the next generation could be studying in this way entirely.

7 Common Myths About Entrepreneurs That Aren’t True

Roughly, one in every 18 people owns their own business. Some step into the shoes of entrepreneurs to pursue opportunities, while others — including those in developing countries — do so out of sheer necessity, because it’s one of the most promising ways to earn a living.

Entrepreneurship is a dream for millions of people around the world. However, it comes with its own set of myths and misconceptions. If you have decided to take the plunge busting these myths is a good way to start.

Take a look at some of the things you might need to unlearn before starting your own business.

1. Entrepreneurs Are Born Not Made

Many people believe that entrepreneurs possess innate, genetic talents. However, experts generally agree that most entrepreneurs were not born; they learned to become entrepreneurs. The recent proliferation of college and university courses on the subject supports this point. Entrepreneurship is currently being successfully taught. While there might be a few factors involved, however, almost anyone can be a successful entrepreneur.

2. Entrepreneurs Do It For The Money

While money could be a motivating factor, however, the most common reason that entrepreneurs start businesses is independence — the ability to create something they can call their own instead of working for someone else. Entrepreneurs want to control their destinies and their working hours.

3. Own Business = Freedom

While the thrill of breaking out of the traditional, 40-hour work week can be a motivating factor behind starting their own business. However, in a majority of cases, the old schedules and creative limitations are exchanged with new demands. Sure, there will be more freedom in some respects, but entrepreneurism often requires great sacrifices. It can consume every part of your waking life; the work doesn’t end when the clock strikes 5 p.m.

4. You Have To Be Young

Entrepreneurship is for all ages! You can start however late or early you want. You do not have to be young to be a successful entrepreneur. A Global Entrepreneurship Monitor report found that the number of older adults who are self-employed outweighs that of young adults.

5. Entrepreneurs Have Limited Dedication

It is a common myth that entrepreneurs are not dedicated to any one thing. Dedication is an attribute that all successful entrepreneurs exhibit. They are dedicated to becoming their boss. To this end, they’ll work day and night to make their business succeed.

6. They Need To Trust Their Gut

The business world is full of stories of wealthy entrepreneurs who have achieved fame by trusting their intuition despite what other people thought.

However, the reality is far more complex. It is fundamental to listen to clients and value constructive feedback. There is always a way of improving and, sometimes, what we think of as genius ideas are not that brilliant.

7. They Are Risk Takers

The myth says that business people are addicted to taking risks, but in reality, the most successful people on the planet are very good at calculating risks.

The story of Bill Gates is a bit more complex than the entrepreneurial legend we are often been told. Bill Gates indeed dropped out of Harvard, but he did it when it was relatively safe to do so. He started selling software programs and applied for a leave of absence, which was approved by the university. Only after the initial success, did he decide to leave his studies and focus on his business.
