Aima Stuns In Yellow

Aima Baig was representing Pakistan, meanwhile, Nepalese singer Trisha Gurung also graced the ceremony with her singing skills. While the focus must have been on the singers’ voices and selection of songs, social media directed the debate toward the outfits worn by singers.

While Trisha Gurung wore a graceful white Nepalese traditional dress, Aima Baig dressed up in a bright yellow two-piece outfit paired with a white crop top and that’s where she went wrong according to the netizens.

Take a look at her outfit below.

The public outrage on Aima’s dress was inevitable, to say the least considering the singer always manages to choose the right outfit for big ceremonies according to Twitter. This Smartphone App Can Measure Your Fever

Source: TechGG

In a world where smartphones are increasingly becoming indispensable tools, researchers from the University of Washington have taken innovation to the next level. Introducing FeverPhone, an app that harnesses the power of your smartphone to function as a thermometer, eliminating the need for additional hardware and offering a convenient solution for monitoring body temperature.

Turning Smartphones into Thermometers

Developed by a team of scientists from the University of Washington, FeverPhone capitalizes on the existing technology within smartphones to measure body temperature accurately. The concept behind the app is ingeniously simple — it repurposes the phone’s touchscreen and the battery’s temperature sensor to gather data that a machine-learning model then uses to estimate the user’s body temperature. This innovative approach transforms an everyday device into a medical tool, providing an accessible way to monitor fever, a key indicator of illness.

The 5 best thermometers (including smart ones) of 2022 | ZDNET
Source: ZDNet

The Path to Accurate Fever Detection

Lead author of the study, Joseph Breda, explains that the inspiration for FeverPhone arose from an experiment involving smartphone temperature sensors and their potential applications in health. The app addresses a common issue — the lack of available thermometers — by leveraging ubiquitous smartphones to provide a timely and reliable assessment of body temperature. By utilizing the smartphone’s touchscreen against a person’s forehead, the app is able to calculate an individual’s temperature with impressive accuracy.

During trials involving 37 patients in an emergency department, FeverPhone demonstrated its clinical potential by accurately measuring temperature within acceptable parameters. The app’s capability to estimate fever, which is pivotal for early intervention in illnesses like influenza, could be particularly valuable for public health agencies. By sharing fever data through the app, individuals could help identify potential outbreaks sooner, similar to how COVID-19 exposure warnings operate.

Source: Insight

How the Technology Works

The journey of FeverPhone involved exploring the untapped potential of existing smartphone sensors. Smartphones are equipped with thermistors, typically used to monitor battery temperature. However, researchers saw the potential for these sensors to track heat transfer between a person and the phone. Laboratory tests involved simulating warm foreheads using heated plastic bags of water, with phone screens pressed against them. The results were promising, with an average error of only 0.41 degrees Fahrenheit, well within the clinically acceptable range.

Looking ahead, the team envisions broader applications for this technology. While FeverPhone initially focused on smartphones due to their widespread usage and data availability, researchers are already exploring the possibility of adapting the technology for other devices like smartwatches. These smaller devices, with quicker temperature changes, could potentially offer even faster insights into an individual’s health status.

A Healthcare Revolution in Your Pocket

FeverPhone represents a remarkable convergence of technology and healthcare. It showcases how smartphones, already deeply integrated into modern life, can be harnessed to address pressing health challenges. As the app continues to evolve, it holds the promise of becoming an invaluable tool for individuals, medical professionals, and public health organizations alike, revolutionizing the way we monitor and respond to fevers and illnesses. With FeverPhone, the future of healthcare is quite literally at your fingertips.

CAA Announces Karachi Airport’s Runway Closure Due To Cracks

CAA Announces Karachi Airport's Runway Closure Due To Cracks

Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport is set to witness a significant change in its flight operations as the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a notification regarding the scheduled closure of two runways. These closures are attributed to the need for crack repair work, with the aim of ensuring the airport’s structural integrity and safe operations.

The affected runways, namely runway number 25-L and 7-R, are experiencing cracks that have the potential to impact flight operations. In response, the CAA has taken the proactive step of issuing a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to formally communicate the planned closures to airlines and aviation stakeholders.

These runways are slated to be closed daily for a period of five months, adhering to the outlined schedule:

To minimize disruptions, flight operations will continue utilizing alternative and secondary runways throughout the duration of the repair work. This strategic approach aims to strike a balance between maintaining operational continuity and executing necessary maintenance.

This situation draws parallels to a past incident in February 2019, where flight operations at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore were temporarily suspended due to the imperative repair of a runway. The decision was prompted by a vigilant captain of a Paris-Lahore bound flight who promptly notified authorities about cracks in the runway observed during landing.

In the aviation world, safety and infrastructure maintenance stand paramount, and the CAA’s measures reflect a commitment to ensuring a secure and efficient aviation environment.

Apple Event ‘Wonderlust’ Launch Date Confirmed

Source: Apple Insideer

Apple enthusiasts and tech aficionados, mark your calendars! Apple has just sent out invitations for its eagerly awaited fall launch event, set to take place on September 12th at 10 a.m. PT. This event, dubbed “Wonderlust,” is in line with the company’s tradition of unveiling its latest iPhone models and other cutting-edge devices in mid-to-late September. Last year, the tech giant introduced the iPhone 14 and the Apple Watch Ultra on September 7, 2022.

iPhone 15 Lineup

The star of the show will undoubtedly be the much-anticipated iPhone 15. Reports suggest that Apple will unveil four different models this year, catering to various tiers of users. These will include the standard and larger Plus models in the lower tier, and the more advanced Pro and Pro Max versions in the higher-end tier.

Apple iPhone 15 Launch Event 'Wonderlust' Confirmed For Sept 12: Here's What To Expect
Source: Apple crunch

Beyond iPhones

While the iPhone lineup is the main attraction, Apple has historically used these events to showcase more than just smartphones. Over the past few years, the company has taken the opportunity to unveil a range of devices, from new Apple Watch iterations to updated AirPods and standard iPads.

One device that has been generating significant buzz is the Apple Vision Pro. Revealed at WWDC 2023 in June, this augmented reality/virtual reality headset is not expected to hit stores until early 2024. However, Apple might seize this event as a chance to generate excitement around its groundbreaking foray into AR/VR technology, despite its hefty price tag of $3,500.

What’s on the Horizon

In addition to hardware, the event might also feature announcements regarding Apple’s services. Subscribers of Apple Music, TV Plus, Fitness, and iCloud could be in for some exciting news regarding new additions and features.

The rumor mill has been busy churning out speculations about the upcoming devices. The iPhone 15 is expected to embrace the USB-C standard across all models. Notably, only the Pro and Pro Max versions are rumored to sport the new A16 bionic chipset, while the standard iPhone 15 and Plus models might retain the A15 chip from last year’s premium iterations. This reflects Apple’s strategy of reserving the latest chipsets for its high-tier models. Excitingly, the standard models might ditch the notch in favor of the multipurpose Dynamic Island.

A Glimpse into the Apple Watch Series 9

While the focus is predominantly on iPhones and watches, other devices are also likely to make appearances. The Apple Watch Series 9 is anticipated to bring fresh processors and new color options. However, earlier hopes for glucose monitoring might not materialize this time. As for iPads, a new standard model seems like a safe bet, considering Apple’s consistent track record of annual refreshes.

Anticipation and Surprises

As the event date draws nearer, speculation is rife about whether Apple has any surprises up its sleeve. The Apple faithful might remember the company’s penchant for unveiling “One More Thing” in the eleventh hour. Nonetheless, with the spotlight on the Vision Pro, it remains to be seen whether Apple will choose to unveil additional surprises or keep the spotlight squarely on its groundbreaking AR/VR headset.

In any case, Apple’s fall launch event promises to be an exciting showcase of innovation, bringing forth new devices and technologies that will undoubtedly shape the tech landscape in the coming months.

The reporter posted the entire conversation between her and the survivor on the Twitter. The horrific details and triggers that followed the incident were nothing short of terrifying. Once the tweet went viral people from all walks of life started sympathizing with the victim and the drama started receiving backlash.

Hadiqa Kiani Shares Her Statement

The actress in her note mentioned that she was adamant about not performing a script that was based on a real-life story. Meanwhile, she also noted that she read the script multiple times. Only then she realized that the story is a sick reality of our society. Where incidents like rape and violence happen far too often.

Here’s what she had to say regarding the backlash on Hadsa.

“To know that something I have been a part of is being used to hurt and trigger a survivor is something I cannot stand for. When I was asked to do the role of Taskeen for Hadsa, my first question was ‘Is this related to the motorway incident?’ ‘Is this based off of a true incident?’ I made it very clear that I would not be a part of a project it is based on anyone’s story. The team behind the project explicitly told me ‘No’. After many conversations with the team and only after reading the script. I understood that ‘Hadsa’ was not related to or based off of the 2020 motorway incident.”

“Unfortunately, the horrific act of rape and violence happens far too often in our society to men, women and children of all social classes and all religions. Often it happens on the road, in obstructed areas and too often the family members are forced to witness the terror. These are the realities of the world we live in. I have sadly been exposed to many stories like this one, but I can say that Hadsa is not based on any one person’s story. It is based on a sickly common part of our reality.”

Pakistan’s Life Expectancy Drops by Nearly 4 Years Due to Air Pollution

Pakistan's Life Expectancy Drops by Nearly 4 Years Due to Air Pollution

Rampant air pollution in Pakistan’s most contaminated regions, including Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, and Peshawar, might truncate life expectancy by a staggering seven years or more, warns a recently published report by the University of Chicago’s Energy Policy Institute (EPIC). The institute’s latest Air Quality Life Index (AQLI), unveiled on Tuesday, indicates that these areas are facing a dire situation.

The AQLI, designed to quantify the correlation between particulate air pollution and life expectancy, underscores that particulate pollution ranks as Pakistan’s second most menacing health hazard, following cardiovascular diseases, causing an average loss of 3.9 years in life expectancy.

The possibility of transformation is striking: adhering to World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines by maintaining an annual PM 2.5 concentration of 5 micrograms per cubic meter could potentially grant an average Pakistani resident an additional 3.9 years of life.

In a contrasting context, child and maternal malnutrition, along with maternal and neonatal disorders, curtail the average life expectancy by 2.7 years.

Challengingly, the entire population of Pakistan—amounting to 240 million people—resides in regions where the annual average particulate pollution level surpasses the WHO guideline. Moreover, 98.3% of Pakistanis live in areas exceeding the country’s own national air quality standard of 15 micrograms per cubic meter.

The AQLI underscores an alarming trend: between 1998 and 2021, Pakistan witnessed an alarming 49.9% spike in average annual particulate pollution, leading to a reduction of 1.5 years in life expectancy.

In the provinces of Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa—the country’s most polluted areas—approximately 65.5 million inhabitants, constituting 69.5% of Pakistan’s populace, could face a staggering loss of life expectancy—between 3.7 to 4.6 years in relation to WHO guidelines, and 2.7 to 3.6 years concerning the national standard—should current pollution levels endure, warns the AQLI.

The report forecasts a promising transformation: Karachi residents could gain 2.7 years of life expectancy, while Lahore could potentially witness an increase of 7.5 years and Islamabad an extension of about 4.5 years if Pakistan adheres to the WHO’s stipulations.

Adding a global perspective, the report underscores that India has contributed to nearly 59% of the world’s surge in pollution since 2013.

After Moon Landing, India To Launch Mission To Study The Sun

Source: Asia news network

In the wake of India’s triumphant moon landing, the nation’s space endeavors continue to soar to new heights. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced its forthcoming mission. Aditya-L1, set to launch on September 2nd. Departing from the Sriharikota launch base, the mission holds immense promise as it endeavors to study the sun – a first for India.

Unveiling Aditya-L1

Aditya-L1, named after the sun god Aditya in Hindu mythology, aims to delve into solar characteristics and their implications for Earth and space weather. The mission will carry seven payloads and find its place at Lagrange Point-1 (L1).  Strategically located between the Earth and the sun. While budget details remain undisclosed officially, sources indicate that the mission costs are estimated to be around ₹400 crore (approximately $45 million).

The primary objectives of Aditya-L1 are ambitious and scientific in nature. One key goal is to examine the sun’s upper atmospheric conditions, focusing on the solar corona, the sun’s outermost layer. By observing the corona’s heating mechanisms and analyzing solar flares, scientists hope to unravel the physics behind partially ionized plasma – a unique state of matter. Additionally, understanding the sequence of solar conditions leading to solar flares could prove invaluable in predicting and preparing for particularly intense solar events.

Aditya-L1 and Beyond

It is noteworthy that while Aditya-L1 marks India’s inaugural mission to study the sun directly, it is not the country’s first space observatory. The AstroSat, launched in 2015, serves as India’s space telescope and continues to be operational, contributing to astronomical studies.

The Solar Flare Connection

The significance of studying solar flares transcends its scientific intrigue. Solar flares, characterized by their immense energy release, can wreak havoc on Earth’s communication infrastructure. Severe solar radiations can lead to disruptions in satellite and radio communications, causing widespread disruptions. The most recent occurrence on August 7th triggered radio and navigation signal disruptions across North America.

These solar disturbances are categorized on a scale by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Centre. Investigating solar conditions could be pivotal in predicting the occurrence, intensity, and contributing factors of such events, thus safeguarding global networks and infrastructure from debilitating downtime.

ISRO’s Steady Trajectory

ISRO’s upcoming mission follows closely on the heels of its moon landing success. In late August, the Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander achieved a historic lunar touchdown on the moon’s southern pole. This remarkable achievement solidifies India’s place as the fourth nation to land on the moon. The scientific insights from this mission are already underway.

India’s thriving space program is set to elevate the nation’s standing in the global space race. The Chairman of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (In-Space), Pawan Kumar Goenka, anticipates that such accomplishments will not only boost private space companies within India but also attract international investors. Although hurdles like space readiness certification and foreign direct investments persist, India’s burgeoning private space sector is poised for growth. With the success of ISRO’s missions serving as a beacon of inspiration and progress.

During the recent episode of Hud Kardi with Momin Saqib, the actress was sharing her thoughts on husbands hiding their phones from their wives. During the interview, the comedian asked the newly married actress a question that is often seen as controversial.

‘Should wives check their husband’s phone?’

“Why and what kind of secrets do men have for them to hide their phones from their wives? If they want to keep things secret and do certain kinds of things, then why even bother to get married?”

“There should never be a need of a wife checking her husband’s phone. However, if a wife picks up her husband’s phone, then the husband should never feel threatened. Thankfully I don’t have that problem. Especially the husbands who keep their phone upside down on the table. These kinds of things must not happen. I feel like after getting married there shouldn’t be any phone codes or passwords hidden from your spouse.”

While talking about her own experience with her husband the actress mentioned that she is lucky to have a husband who understands this and that’s how she knew she was going to marry him.

“He put up my face ID on his phone without even me asking him to do it. This was the first thing he ever did and never even asked for mine. I gave my phone to him, and he was like just take my phone whenever you need it.”

Inflation In Pakistan? But The Coffee Shops Says Something Else

Inflation In Pakistan? But The Coffee Shops Says Something Else

Pakistan has been going through the worst inflation phase ever and it still is; with people not being able to afford basic necessities like water, gas, and food. But is the country really poor? I mean there is absolutely no doubt that Pakistan’s economy is in deficit and is overburdened by debt. But the problem is that people and in fact any sane human would like to believe what they see rather than what they hear and see on the news. And let’s be honest, does the Pakistani public really trust the news anymore?

As you might know, this picture is from Tim Hortons in Lahore. This picture and this branch went viral on the internet a few months ago. This was because the same question was raised in people’s brains, “where is the inflation?” Because seriously where is the inflation? People seem to be complaining about inflation and that they are not able to afford basic necessities but at the same time, in malls like Luckyone and restaurants like House of Mandi, where the total bill easily sums up to more than rs. 15,000, the amount of people is actually suffocating.

An image from the opening of Khaadi at Luckyone Mall

However, I am not disagreeing with the fact that Pakistan isn’t in the worst position economically speaking. Over the past 25-year span, Pakistan has witnessed a doubling of its debt approximately every five years. Consequently, this created an unsustainable burden of debt.

As of May 2023, Pakistan’s inflation rate has skyrocketed to 38 percent, surpassing Sri Lanka and making it the highest in Asia. To alleviate the crisis in the balance of payments and avert bankruptcy, Pakistan continues to borrow substantial sums of money from China to sustain its economy.

This picture is a clear depiction of how poor Pakistan is right now. But at the same time, this is a picture from Burns Road Karachi. The streets are full of people enjoying a night out. Now in Karachi, it is common to queue outside of high-end restaurants. But for those of you who don’t know, Burns Road isn’t a very expensive place and people who come here (mostly) belong to the lower middle class who are also the ones who are complaining about inflation and the general prices being too high.

Previously, there was also a video of a man showing the tea stalls in Karachi from his car saying that “Pakistanis have pranked the IMF and the country in fact does not need the loan”. Similarly, like chai, coffee has now become the most expensive beverage in Pakistan. With shops like Gloria Jeans, DROP Coffee, and Delfrio, an average cup of coffee is now pkr 700 to 800. Like me, a user on Twitter was also confused about the same thing.

Is coffee overpriced or are the whole shenanigans with the milk design and fancy glasses worth it? Here’s what people had to say to this tweet.

Now it definitely, is up to the readers to decide whether their coffees are overpriced or not, and which part of the economy they belong to but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
