State Bank Keeps Interest Rate Unchanged Despite High Inflation

State Bank OF Pakistan

The interest rate or policy rate is the main instrument a country’s central bank has to adjust to keep inflation in check but the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has chosen to keep it unchanged at 15% despite high inflation. Why does it choose not to adjust the interest rate and what will be its consequence?

Last month, the SBP jacked up interest rate by 125 basis points taking it to a 14-year high of 15%. So experts were expecting another hike this month due to high inflation but the central bank has decided to keep it unchanged.

In our previous monetary policy story, it was discussed how interest rates affect inflation, trade deficit and exchange rates, why it is used, and why it sometimes does not give the desired results in the context of Pakistan?

In the State Bank’s official media communication, it said that interest has been increased by a cumulative of 800 basis points (from 7% interest rates to 15%) ‘to cool the overheating economy and contain the current account deficit since last September’.

Economy overheats when imports increase more than imports, there’s economic growth but it is unsustainable because of falling foreign exchange reserves. This also increases inflation. It forces government’s economic managers to take action such as adjusting interest rates and restricting imports.

“With recent inflation developments in line with expectations; domestic demand beginning to moderate and the external position showing some improvement, the MPC (Monetary Policy Committee of the SBP) felt that it was prudent to take a pause at this stage,” read the MPC note.

“Looking ahead, the MPC intends to remain data-dependent, paying close attention to month-on-month inflation, inflation expectations, developments on the fiscal and external fronts, as well as global commodity prices and interest rate decisions by major central banks,” it added.

The headline inflation rose further to 24.9 percent in July, with core inflation also ticking up. This was expected given the necessary reversal of the energy subsidy package—effects of which will continue to manifest in inflation out-turns throughout the rest of the fiscal year—as well as momentum in the prices of essential food items and exchange rate weakness last month.

Second, the trade balance fell sharply in July and the rupee reversed course during August, appreciating by around 10 percent on improved fundamentals and sentiment.

“Third, the board meeting on the on-going review under the IMF program will take place on August 29 and is expected to release a further tranche of $1.2 billion, as well as catalyzing financing from multilateral and bilateral lenders. In addition, Pakistan has also successfully secured an additional $4 billion from friendly countries over and above its external financing needs in FY23. As a result, foreign exchange reserves will be further augmented through the course of the year, helping to reduce external vulnerability,” it added.

The expectations that the foreign exchange reserves to increase from $7.9 billion on August 12 to rise to around $16 billion during FY23 has given some hope to the policy makers to not further choke growth, however it means inflation may stay at present level.

Climate change has become an unavoidable reality that many are now paying attention to. While the mitigation efforts are underway globally, we might be too late in many areas. Did you know that climate change is also changing our bodies? We mean to say, it has been reported that climate change could be impacting our health for the worse in multiple ways. Read about them here:

Less Sleep

A study by Kelton Minor at the University of Copenhagen’s Centre for Social Data Science this year revealed sleep and climate change stats. They reported that the amount of sleep that people worldwide get is fastly declining due to rising temperatures.

They reported, “Sleep is a time our bodies recover and mend.” It’s essential for both our mental health and our overall functionality and performance. Thus, in the long run, this lack of sleep is negatively impacting our health.

Poor Lung Health

Increased ground-level ozone and particulate matter are linked to reduced lung function. This is also, particularly if a person is exposed to air pollution in childhood. Given the conditions of our countries and air health, this is not rare. Asthma, rhinosinusitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and respiratory tract infections are the ways air pollution affects us.

High Temperatures Hurt Hearts

Record-breaking high temperatures have become common. We are hearing greater reports of fatal heatwaves and wildfires globally. It is estimated that 5 million people, per year, are discovered to die from hot temperatures.

Here's How Climate Change Is Affecting Our Bodies

The demand on the heart increases as the temperature increases. The heart has to pump quickly and harder to redistribute blood and enhance blood flow to the skin to cool the body. Therefore, heart failure and heat stroke are common for people with weaker hearts in high temperatures.

Kidneys Lose Water

Our kidneys are dependent on water to help remove waste from our blood. Dehydration can impact them negatively.

In these temperatures, dehydration causes excessive water loss. This increases the number of minerals and waste materials in the urine. Kidney stones can then develop which result in various painful symptoms like nausea, lower back pain, and difficulty passing urine.

Responsible marketing is the new form of marketing. Brands all around the world are paying attention to how they can focus on sustainable marketing. Encourage consumers to recycle and give them an incentive— this way consumers and the corporate world can all come together to be more responsible. It appears Bonanza Satrangi is on the right path and Pakistanis are quite impressed.

What Did They Do?

A customer at Bonanza Satrangi saw this brochure at their branch and shared it with others too. The brochure reads that Bonanza Satrangi customers can return their empty perfume bottles and get Rs. 100 off on their next perfume shopping spree. Have a look:

bonanza satrangi initiative

Is This A Marketing Tactic?

This is an excellent marketing tactic. It encourages people to not throw away their bottles and then share the bottles with the brand again. It’s still rare for Pakistani brands to engage in such sustainable practices so obviously, this move would go viral. Aren’t we talking about it with you? It works!

bonanza satrangi initiative

Moreover, it guarantees a second purchase from the customer. Those who come once and get the Rs.100 off will for sure come again to avail the discount. Notice how the discount is also only on the perfumes? It’s to encourage greater sales of a section of their product categories. Initiatives should not be discouraged or shelved if they’re a marketing tactic because marketing, at the end of the day, is all about generating sales. This new gesture will definitely be roping in more customers.

What Are People Saying?

Pakistanis are a tough crowd. However, they are still impressed by Bonanza Satrangi’s latest initiative. They are analyzing how this is a marketing ploy but so what? It’s a sustainable initiative. We all start from baby steps, right? What matters is that Bonanza Satrangi is taking its steps. The bottle would be worth far more than Rs.100 but they’re offering to help their customers.

Have a look at what all people said:

Is Hyundai Catching Up With Tesla In The Electric Car Market?

Is Hyundai the new Tesla? Everyone is asking the same question after Hyundai beats Tesla in the US this year. Through May, Hyundai and Kia sold 21,467 of these two machines. Beating even the white-hot Ford Mustang Mach-E, which was snapped up by 15,718 drivers.

Hyundai The New ‘Tesla’?

The South Korean carmakers rolled out two new battery-powered cars – the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and its sibling, the Kia EV6. They promptly tore up the sales charts, passing the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Bolt and every other electric vehicle on the market not made by Tesla.

Earlier this year Elon Musk said that “Hyundai was doing pretty well” in June, the South Korean carmaker appeared unlikely to pose an important aggressive menace to Tesla. However, the recent figures are saying otherwise.

Tesla Vs Hyundai

Tesla still sells far more cars, but it took the company a decade to deliver as many electric vehicles as Hyundai and Kia have managed in a few short months.

Granted, Hyundai is no startup. The design of the current hits started about six years ago, according to Steve Kosowski, manager of the long-range strategy at Kia America. At the time, the Chevrolet Bolt had just hit the market and Kia considered a car similar in size and scope. Ultimately, Kosowski and company green-lit something far larger, sportier and swankier – at a slightly higher price.

“From an EV perspective, they’re just kind of cleaning the floor,” said Edmunds analyst Joseph Yoon. “I honestly don’t know if any dealers around me have any in stock.”

“The thinking was, with the platform we have and the market understanding we have, let’s put together a bold, breakthrough proposition. We’re going to make a statement that Kia is here.”

Kosowski said the new Hyundai products are capitalizing, in part, on Tesla fatigue as the first-mover sedans and SUVs become ubiquitous even beyond coastal states. Also, owners are sticking with what they know of those trading in a Hyundai or Kia recently. About 60% stayed with the brand, according to Edmunds.

Hyundai plans to launch a new battery-powered car every year for the rest of the decade and is spending $16.5 billion to boost EV production in South Korea. By 2030, the automaker wants to claim 12% of the global EV market, some 3.2 million cars and trucks.

Cash stuffing: A New Money-Saving TikTok Trend ?

Cash stuffing is the latest trend that has gone viral on the video-sharing platform TikTok. In a nutshell, cash stuffing is a process with which you can save your hard-earned money.

Understanding what budgeting is and how it works, has never been more important. At a time when prices are rising all around, families are searching for ways to avoid overspending where they can. This might be switching to the cheapest supermarket, looking for ways to save energy at home or hacks to save on the cost of food shopping.

And to help people learn how to save money, a TikTok trend called cash stuffing has emerged within the TikTok community. The video has been viewed over four hundred million times.

Adam French, Personal Finance Editor at The Money Edit, said: “Cash stuffing is a new spin on old budgeting techniques our parents and grandparents will be all too familiar with, like stashing money for different expenses in old jam jars.”

Read More: Do You Cry At Work? Here’s A Surprising Truth!

How Does Cash Stuffing work?

  1. With Cash stuffing dividing your spending into categories is the way to nail the art. Spends such as shopping, dining out, entertainment, petrol, gifts, and groceries might be the most consistent monthly costs, to begin with.
  2. Assign an envelope for saving. You can start to deposit any spare change at the end of each month into it. This could be for a car deposit or saving for a renovation or holiday. Having a specific goal is a great way to keep you motivated. Having these additional folders means you’re always allocating some money to long-term goals.
  3. Work out how much to assign to each category. If you know you spend too much on socialising, then lower your budget in that category, and so on. After you’ve budgeted, it’s worth creating a spreadsheet to track your spending, simply writing down how much you allocated and then spent that month. This creates an awareness of your spending habits and helps see where you went right and where you could cut back. Any leftovers can be added to your long-term envelopes to encourage you to keep going.
  4. Only spend what’s in that envelope. Restrict your spending to only using the allocated amount on each category and you should have savings in no time.

When working out your overall cash stuffing budget, it’s best not to follow how another person or a TikToker sets their budget, as this varies for every household depending on income and expenses. You might decide to set your budget weekly or monthly. Make sure you choose the method that works best for you and your family.

realme Pakistan’s Country Director Syed Mashood Hassan Shares His Opinions on the Smartphone Industry

After a long and arduous wait, the Government of Pakistan recently announced that LCs, which had previously only been open for essential goods, are now open for all goods including non-essential and luxury items. The final decision to lift the import ban entirely was made in accordance with the final requirements imposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the Country. The past few months have been plagued with high levels of uncertainty and panic in the market as smartphone companies struggled to adapt to the restrictive situation. The industry has seen quite a shake up as a result.

Cnsumers in the smartphone industry are having to shift from the premium to mid-segment due to a decrease in buying power caused by the dollar deficit, rampant taxation, and inflation. Market share in the industry has also become more widely spread across the different players in the industry as consumers have started to jump ship between brands seeking better value propositions. The import ban has also led to the shutdown of smartphone and automobile assembly plants across the country, which sent ripples of unease across these industries.

When speaking with Syed Mashood Hassan, Country Director, realme Pakistan on the situation, he went into details regarding the perseverance of the realme team and the strategies one should adopt in turbulent times like these. realme is a Chinese smartphone brand that caters mostly to the interests of the Pakistani youth segment. Their “Dare to Leap” philosophy is reflective of youthful values such as being adventurous, taking risks, and bold, trend-setting behavior. As a result of the current political and economic conditions, realme has put its focus on sustainability in the short-term. The tech-democratizer isn’t short-sighted however. In the long term, it aims to get a larger share of the mid-range category through realme’s stellar number and C series. During our discussion, Syed Mashood Hassan had some recommendations for his peers in the smartphone industry for weathering the turbulent phase the industry is in.

His first recommendation was to shift towards a sustainability mindset. In the past few months, many local startups failed and some global companies withdrew or reduced their operations in Pakistan. With this in mind, focusing on sustainability is of utmost importance to eventually reach stability. Secondly, he advised his peers to focus on consolidating their existing key territories instead of expanding further into tier 3 and 4 cities. Expansion at this time is a highly risky move as it involves high levels of investment with uncertain returns.

His third recommendation focused on utilizing existing stock to cover demand. This would be the perfect opportunity to give an extra push to existing stock lying around and liquefy those assets. His final recommendation had to do with the retention of key employees. In difficult times companies tend to let go of whatever team members they can in order to make their operations more efficient. realme greatly values its employees as it believes they are the cornerstone to its success. Human resources are extremely valuable and if let go prematurely can take their talents to a corporation that values them more.

Hopeful times are just around the corner as the situation in the smartphone industry will begin to change now that the Government has lifted restrictions around imports. This is the time for players in the industry to strengthen their bases so that they can quickly prosper when conditions in the country start to improve.

Dalda Maamta Story hits home with an emotional insight of motherly love

In a world full of superficial, neon lights, random rap battles and all the bling bling, Dalda brings out “Dalda Maamta story”. Dalda creates a narrative that not only caters to the younger generation, but also the older ones. Finding the middle point that calls out to everyone is something Dalda loves doing, sticking to their roots.

The engaging and captivating storyline, revolves around how a mother loves and provides for her family effortlessly and unconditionally. The advert reminds us of the sweet and playful banter we used to have with our mothers as kids, and how she would come up with the most unique and fascinating stories to playfully distract us.

In the hectic routine, we forget to understand, respect and appreciate our mothers for all that they have been doing for us, consciously or subconsciously through the most natural yet magical thing called a motherly instinct.

In addition to the story, we have an unexpected appearance of the most loved and appreciated celebrity, Fawad Khan. Who not only plays the role but also narrates the scenario. With his soothing voiceover, the nostalgia, the memories, the overflow of love and everything else ends up syncing perfectly to the core.

And just like our mothers, Dalda, in its essence, keeps on providing its consumers with the same love and respect, without compromising on the quality or their health.

Parwaaz Hai Junoon Review: When Romance Meets Patriotism, TV style!

parwaaz hai junoon trailer

Parwaaz Hai Junoon is one of the few patriotic films that tackle the subject in a light-hearted way; it has romance, it has comedy, it has action sequences and above all, it is shot in places where no civilian has gone before.

It also has an ensemble cast featuring TV stars as well as people who should be in films, making it a one-time watch for the sake of your motherland.

However, its biggest drawback is that is doesn’t have anything new as the academy scenes are inspired by Sunehrey Din, action sequences from Top Gun and the romantic angle from Farhat Ishtiaq dramas and if you missed the title, you would have guessed that the film is a Momina & Duraid production, such as the predictability of the plot.

Synopsis

The film revolves around Sania (Hania Aamir) who joins the Pakistan Air Force as a cadet as a promise to his to-be-fiancé and does well in the academics. Hamza (Hamza Ali Abbasi) is a Tom-Cruise-inspired GD Pilot who loves to take risks and impress his fellow pilots, even if it means making his boss (Adnan Jaffer) angry.

Then there is another cadet Zain (Ahad Raza Mir) who wants to pass out as the best cadet in the academy and when others do better, that makes him jealous. How the three are related is a mystery that unravels at the climax after a lot of aerial shots, dance numbers, supporting characters and a few intensely patriotic scenes.

Analysis

Parwaaz Hai Junoon’s heart is in the right place but when you screen the director’s name casually during credits (his name must come in the very end), it shows how much authority he might have had in the production phase. It is shot like a TV drama and comes out as one too, despite some very attractive aerial shots where cadets train and pilots unleash their weapons on enemies.

Unlike Waar, the bad guys have no presence except for the scenes where they are shooting at the good guys or getting killed. Most of the actors like Asif Raza Mir, Marina Khan, Arjumand Azhar, Hina Bayat, and Kubra Khan etc. are relegated to ‘special appearances’ while the bulk of the acting is done by Hamza Ali Abbasi, Hania Aamir, Shaz Khan and Ahad Raza Mir which looks monotonous after a few scenes.

At times, the romantic angle takes you away from the patriotic side of the film which is not a good thing for a film that is the first Air Force Film in the last 50 years. Also, the climax gives you the impression of the last episode of a TV drama than a feature film and disappoints the many fans of all the three actors playing the lead. The soundtrack by Azaan Sami Khan is one of the positives in the film as in the wonderful background score by Mohsin Allah Ditta that give you the impression of watching an international release.

Verdict 3/5

For a film the release of which was postponed once, Parwaaz Hai Junoon has done well as an Eid release, despite stiff competition. The star power of Hamza Ali Abbasi, Ahad Raza Mir, and Hania Aamir have attracted people to cinemas which is something one expected from the film. However, giving them a product that was more of a telefilm than a feature film wasn’t a good idea especially when the other two releases were much bigger in scale and plot.

Had it been released on a Patriotic day (August 14th or September 6th) than a religious holiday, it might have done as a solo release with patriotism as its key ingredient, something that people missed in the abundance of releases.

Seventeen teachers from Beaconhouse complete the International Subject Leadership Certificate

Seventeen teachers from Beaconhouse, one of the largest private educational networks in the world educating over 315,000 students, have successfully completed the inaugural International Subject Leadership Certificate by the UK-based Professional Training Institute.

The 18-month accreditation is a modular course that allows participants to work with experienced practitioners to design exceptional lessons. It aims to develop subject leaders through the design and delivery of challenging Schemes of Work (SOW).

Teachers enrolled in the course reflected on the current context of their subject within their school curriculum, considered what makes successful subject leadership, and explored the course success criteria during the online launch meeting. They gathered evidence to help reflect upon and illustrate the impact of their work on pupils, colleagues and themselves. During the course, participants were assessed in peer-to-peer professional interviews during an online review meeting, to discuss and reflect upon the success and impact of their work.

The Professional Training Institute is a UK education charity supporting teachers at all stages of their career to develop specialist subject knowledge. It believes that all children, regardless of their background or ability, are entitled to a rich education delivered by passionate and knowledgeable teachers.

Commenting on the accomplishment, Ali Ahmed Khan, Chief Operating Officer, Beaconhouse said,“This has been a great learning experience for our hardworking teachers. At Beaconhouse, we prioritise teacher training and believe in continuous development that supports them in facilitating effective learning in the classroom. I congratulate all the Beaconhouse teachers for completing the certification and look forward to seeing them implement their learnings.”

Sana Saleem Agha, Omema Hassan and Saima Nazli are among the Beaconhouse teachers who completed the certificate.

Sana Saleem Agha said, “It was great to observe that my students felt more positive about their ability to read and have improved reading skills. They have shown great confidence in speaking too. It was observed that they raised and answered questions about the characters, settings, events, etc. from stories easily. Hence, the designed schemes of work had a significant impact on my students.”

Omema Hassan said, “I am happy to be part of this unique experience where I felt empowered to choose my own focus, design my own SOW, implement it, and plan further. Learning, unlearning and relearning has made me a reflective practitioner and a better teacher. I now keep on improving my teaching strategies.”

Saima Nazli said, “My students have developed a love for reading after the pandemic had drastically deteriorated their reading skills. Furthermore, the SOW helped to develop and regain their confidence in public speaking.”

Chris Pope, Co-Director, Professional Training Institute said, “The Professional Training Institute is delighted to congratulate these teachers on their incredible hard work and effort to complete our International Subject Leadership Course. It takes a lot of dedication to complete this course and we couldn’t be more thrilled to celebrate their incredible achievement. It is great to see that not only does this help teachers improve their confidence and skills in the classroom, but also translates to the students feeling more inspired.”

Beaconhouse and the Professional Training Institute aim to inspire teachers and school leaders to become more effective, enthusiastic, and influential. Their sustainable approach to professional development helps teachers become experts in their subjects and pass on a love of learning to their students.

About The Show

Tamasha Ghar is the name of the reality program created by Pakistani producers. It appears to have finally caught on with public attention. Many keen internet users have noticed many similarities to Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss which is why they’re speaking against it.

However, it has become suited to Pakistanis.

Who Hosts and Who Attends

The show began airing on August 20 on ARY Digital. Guess who the presenter and judge is? You won’t be surprised. It has Adnan Siddiqui serving as presenter and judge. Just like Bigg Boss, before introducing the contestants, actors Aamna Malick, Umer Aalam, Maira Khan, Humaira Asghar, Mareeha Safdar, Saeeda Imtiaz, and Saim Ali, opened the show.

Aadi Adeal Amjad, a TV personality is among some of the contestants. Moreover, there is singer Nouman Javaid, comedian Rauf Lala, choreographer Nigah Jee, model Faiza Khan, and fitness instructor Sehr Beg.

What Are People Saying?

The Pakistani community can see the obvious similarities between this and the Indian TV reality show. However, many are also critiquing the critics because they suggest even Bigg Boss was a local adaptation itself. Want to know exactly what they’re saying and posting? Read about it here:

What Are The Similarities?

The main similarities are structural. For instance, they have the same kind of rooms designated for males and females. The house structure is very similar to the lounge, the co-opted washrooms, and also the ground where activities are done. Besides that, the whole sequence of guests coming in or speaking to contestants is reminiscent of Bigg Boss.

The way Salman Khan used to stand at another stage and speak to the participants inside is a lot like Adnan Siddique speaking to the contestants of Tamasha. However, this is not to say that Tamasha is a new “copy” of Bigg Boss. Bigg Boss itself was inspired by Big Brother in the US and Tamasha is a Pakistani adaptation of that. The reality TV framework has become homogenous overall which is why there are similarities.

The show should be welcomed as a new addition paving the path for a new kind of entertainment in Pakistan. Are you excited about this show? Let us know in the comments below.

Here’s Why Rainwater Is Harmful To Drink

A recent study published in Environment Science and Technology has found that rainwater from many places across the globe is contaminated with ‘per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances,’ (PFAs). These are called ‘forever chemicals’ because they tend to stick around in the atmosphere, rainwater, and soil for long periods.

According to the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), PFAs are man-made chemicals used to make nonstick cookware. As well as, water-repellent clothing, stain-resistant fabrics, cosmetics, firefighting forms and many other products that resist grease, water, and oil.

PFAs can migrate to the soil, water, and air during their production and use. Since most PFAs do not break down, they remain in the environment for long periods. Some of these PFAs can build up in people and animals if they are repeatedly exposed to the chemicals.

PFA Levels In Rainwater

The researchers found the levels of PFA in drinking water in every part of the world. Even in some of the most remote areas, exceeded the EPA’s contamination guidelines.

That means “rainwater everywhere would be judged unsafe to drink,” Ian Cousins, lead author of the study and environmental science professor at Stockholm University, said in a university press release.

“Although in the industrial world we don’t often drink rainwater. Still many people around the world expect it to be safe to drink. Meanwhile, it also supplies many of our drinking water sources.”

The study also found that levels of other PFAs variants, such as perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS), also exceeded U.S. guidelines in numerous rural and urban regions around the globe.

“The extreme persistence and continual global cycling of certain PFAs will lead to the continued exceedance of the above-mentioned guidelines,” Martin Scheringer, a co-author of the study and a professor based at ETH Zurich in Switzerland and Masaryk University in the Czech Republic, said in the news release.

Health Hazards Of PFA Chemicals

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) lists a variety of health risks that are attributed to PFA exposure. Including decreased fertility, developmental effects in children, interference with body hormones, increased cholesterol levels and increased risk of some cancers. Research also revealed that long-term low-level exposure to certain PFAs can make it difficult for humans to build antibodies after being vaccinated against various diseases.

TikTok and Zindagi Trust have initiated a series of workshops across their network of government schools in Pakistan in a bid to create awareness around digital safety amongst students, teachers and parents. This initiative will see up to 3,000 students, teachers and parents attend day-long workshops to learn about safe usage of the internet, with a focus on social media. There will also be separate workshops for teachers and parents that will seek to educate them on how they can ensure the safety of youngsters on the internet.

Thousands of young internet users from grades 7-9 will be able to learn about best practices of internet usage and how they can become responsible digital citizens and cultivate a safe online community across the nation. The workshops will cover a range of topics including navigating online safety issues such as cyber bullying, catfishing and false information. There will be detailed modules on the harmful behaviours prevalent on social media, ways to share appropriate information, identifying fake news and misinformation and reporting mechanisms to report illicit and harmful content on social media.
Content for the workshops was designed based on the findings of the student surveys that were conducted prior to their commencement. The surveys helped identify the major challenges students were facing on the internet, including issues like bullying and online harassment.

The workshops also aim to educate teachers and parents on how to use safety features on platforms like TikTok to ensure their children remain safe on social media. For instance, they will be guided about TikTok’s Family Pairing features, which allow parents to link their TikTok account to their teens’ and set controls including Screentime Management, Restricted Mode and Direct Messages.

Farah Tukan, Head of Government Relations and Public Policy – Middle East, Turkey, Africa and Pakistan (METAP) at TikTok, said: “These worksops that are a part of our ongoing partnership with Zindagi Trust, are another step in the right direction for ensuring our TikTok community in Pakistan remains digitally safe. We are fully committed to ensuring the safety of Pakistan’s digital community, as we continue implementing policies and processes to proactively identify and prevent every attempt to share inappropriate content on our platform.”

Faiq Ahmed, Senior Marketing and Resource Development Manager at Zindagi Trust: “It brings us great joy to be a part of this wonderful digital safety campaign in partnership with TikTok to deliver informative workshops for students in our adopted government schools. It’s about time we make sure our young generation is aware of digital safety so they are better equipped to deal with safety and privacy challenges on the internet.”

Review: House of Dragon

House of Dragon

Game of thrones has left an untouchable legacy and although nothing about the story is a continuation in the most awaited show of the year “House of Dragons” – also referred to as the successor of the Game of Thrones, the expectations are very high. The first episode of the much-anticipated show has made the strongest hearts crumble with the violence showed on screen. Those who were expecting the gut-wrenching scenes in the show have also been shocked by the brutality, however, it has filled its purpose of giving a strong and bold message to the viewers about the future of the show.

The scenes where a realm prince is slitting throats and chopping limbs have given the audience an uncomfortable, yet thrilling experience by keeping them at the edge of their seat. The plot takes place 172 years earlier Daenerys Targaryen, during the reign of Viserys I Targaryen, the grandson of the prosperous King Jaehaery. Viserys, the second of the grandchildren of the king and the man to be hailed as King after Viserys’ death.

The new King of the Westernos is shown to be contended with how things are in the region with generous qualities. When Lord Corlys, Lord of Driftmark and the seventh richest man comes to Viserys for help, he refuses to wage war which could upset the Gods of the free cities. Visery is a loving father but his brother has a contradictory nature. Daemon is Viserys’ younger brother and a ruthless character, who is at the same time, charming and cold.

The King and Queen share a very happy and loving relationship as they both adore each other. The queen is pregnant with what they will know later, their long awaited male heir to the throne and the king throws feasts in order to celebrate the queen’s pregnancy. The night is filled with joy and their personal lives seem to be going well. However, the violence in the show indicate that this happiness might be short-lived. This indicates that the show can get vividly dark, and viewers might expect to see the smile on the couple’s face vanish sooner than they may think.

Viewers have pointed out how masterfully the creators have weaved in the details from the Game of Thrones to this show to link them both. The presence of white walkers and the threat they pose and the historical facts and figures established in the first few scenes have created a larger audience due to the shadowing story. The presence of external forces such as betrayal, honor and power have made each character a fortune’s fool. This gives the show a sense on unpredictability which many viewers enjoy watching.

Viewers have also pointed out the high emotional roller coaster that the first episode puts them through when Viserys is faced with a difficult choice of either saving his heir or his beloved wife. Many had suspect it coming as everything was picture perfect in the King’s family and there was an enveloping feeling of it all being too good to be true. There have been nothing but praises about the masterpiece and the audience is eagerly waiting for the remaining episodes.
