BARD Foundation celebrating Success of Naila Kiani after summiting K2, Gasherbrum I and II

BARD Foundation hosted a press conference at the Lahore Press Club to highlight Naila Kiani’s experience during her 2-month long mountaineering feat. The Dubai-based banker by profession and mother of two, Kiani, became the first Pakistani female climber to summit three 8000+ peaks in her first attempt. Her original expedition commenced in June 2022 from Skardu, where she was accompanied by Sirbaz Khan & Suhail Sakhi, as she summited  K2 and Gasherbrum I.

Speaking at the conference, Naila said, “It’s very important to have a strong support system during times like this and I’m proud that my nation, my fellow climbing community and the BARD Foundation, did not fail me. The foundation’s unconditional faith in my endeavours is proof of its vision to enable the Pakistani sports ecosystem. Even though this was one of the most difficult challenges I’ve undertaken, I pledge to continue to take on more mountaineering adventures and encourage aspiring climbers to experience this amazing quest for themselves.”

During her talk, Mehreen Dawood said, “Naila has inspired and motivated women across the nation to pursue their sports careers with zeal. She has also promoted gender equality in the sports community and proven, through her conviction, that women can surpass any challenge in their path. The foundation encouraged by Naila’s success will continue to nurture young athletes so that they can be stars for Pakistan.”

Previously, in 2021, Kiani also set a record by becoming the first Pakistani woman to climb Gasherbrum-II (8,035 meters), the world’s thirteenth highest mountain. She was presented with an award in December 2021 by the President of Pakistan in acknowledgement of her achievements and contributions to mountaineering.

‘The problem is not the focus on cricket, but the lack of focus on other sports’

arshad-nadeem-from-mian-channu-to-paris-olympics-0

For those who thought Pakistan was only a cricket-crazy nation, the recent success of Pakistani athletes in the Common Wealth Games (CWG) has proven that our love of sports is not just restricted to cricket but other games as well.

Arshad Nadeem and Nooh Dastgir Butt are the two names that trended on top on all social media platforms recently after winning gold medals in javelin throw and weight-lifting respectively.

However, the surprising part is that although both of them had represented the country earlier in different tournaments across the globe, they only shot to fame after their recent wins. Nadeem has won a gold earlier at the South Asia Games in 2019 as well, but did not get the kind of recognition back then as he did now. This, raises eyebrows and makes one wonder why do these athletes do not get the same promotion and media limelight as our cricketers. Why do they not get featured in adverts and why are they not treated as celebrities as our cricketers are?

To find answers to the questions above, we need to dig deep into the rotten corrupt system of the Pakistan Sports Board and their treatment of athletes. The reality is that most athletes train and prepare themselves on their own, without much support from sports boards or the government. Even after winning, they do not get the deserved appreciation, except for a few cash prizes from the government or private organizations. It is because of this, that Pakistan is perceived as a cricket loving nation only and our youngsters choose cricket for a career.

It is important to look into our strengths in sports other than cricket and hone the upcoming talent so that we can benefit everyone involved, from sports boards to athletes and the audience.

If we look back on Pakistan’s sports history, the country has had her fair share of glory in terms of sports other than cricket, and this could be a driving force for the next generation to pursue them.

Squash

Pakistan ruled squash for almost 50 years, from Hashim Khan to Jansher Khan. Between 1950 and 1997, Pakistan amassed over 30 British Open titles, 14 World Open titles, and many more PSA professional titles.

Hashim Khan laid the foundation of Pakistan’s dominance in Squash with his first British Open Title in 1951. The family had ‘squash’ in their blood as they went on to produce many great squash players throughout the decades.

Jahangir Khan, who is arguably the greatest ever squash player, also came from Hashim Khan’s family. Khan holds the record for the longest undefeated streak in any sport for winning 555 consecutive games of squash. He was the last to dominate the sport from the family.

However, the dominance of Pakistan didn’t end there, as the torch was passed to Jansher Khan, who won the World Open a record eight times, and the British Open six times. He was ranked number 1 in the world from January 1988 till January 1998, for almost ten years. His nephew Amir Atlas Khan also rose to prominence but could not bring back the past glory to Pakistan.

Unfortunately, despite our dominance in squash for so many decades, we failed to promote and market the game as it should have been. Our legends, post retirement, went across the globe to coach players but in our country, they were not used to their full potential. If the relevant departments took the sport seriously and invested in it, we could have prepared another generation of champions this game even bigger in our country.

Hockey

Hockey is the national sport of Pakistan, and at one point, it was the most popular sport in the country – even more than cricket. Pakistan is considered to have the most successful team in the history of field hockey World Cup, for having won the World Cup a record four times, in 1971, 1978, 1982, and 1994.

That’s not all… Pakistan has also won three Olympic gold medals, in Rome 1960, Mexico City 1968, and Los Angeles 1984, as well as eight Asian Games and four Champions Trophy tournaments. Though Pakistan dominated the hockey world from the late 1950s to the mid-1990s, the 70s and the 80s are considered the golden years of Pakistan hockey.

The country produced some of the greatest players in hockey history, notably, Hanif Khan, Hasan Sardar, Samiullah, Mansoor Ahmed, Manzoor Hussain Jr., Shahnaz Sheikh, Shahbaz Ahmed Sr., etc., who ruled the hockey world and helped Pakistan stay at the top for decades. Sohail Abbas was the last superstar of Pakistan hockey, holding a record for the highest number of goals in international field hockey.

Our hockey players have also trained and coached many international teams notably China, South Korea, Japan, and Malaysia, who are currently ranked higher than Pakistan in the world ranking.

Despite the above, today Pakistan ranks 18 in world rankings, meaning they cannot directly play the final rounds of any major tournament, be it the World Cup, Olympics or Champions Trophy. They have to first compete in a qualifying round to advance to the finals.

Pakistan’s history in hockey is a perfect example of ‘falling from grace’; a team who once dominated the sport has now been relegated to play qualifying rounds for every major tournament. The lack of government support and modern infrastructure, and falling sponsorships, have all contributed to the gradual decline of hockey in the country.

Tennis

Tennis has never been as popular a sport in Pakistan as hockey or squash, however, it has a massive following. We have witnessed glimpses of brilliance in the sport, starting from Haroon Rahim, who was the youngest ever singles national champion as well as the youngest to play for Pakistan in the Davis Cup competition at the age of 15. He was also the highest-ranked singles player in Pakistan’s history, ranking 34th in 1977.

After him, Aisam ul Haq rose to prominence as the only Pakistani player ever to reach a Grand Slam final, having done so in both men’s and mixed doubles at the 2010 US Open. Along with him, Aqeel Khan was also a major tennis player during the same time. They have often spearheaded Pakistan’s Davis Cup campaigns, partnering with each other in doubles and competing each other in singles.

Aisam ul Haq was quite popular in his peak days, he was the first Pakistani non-cricketer sportsman to star in a Pepsi advert and become one of their brand ambassadors. He was a major motivation for young players to take up the sport, but the government as well as other relevant departments, as usual, did not pay much attention.

Tennis has a huge potential to grow in our country as there are many young players at the national level who can go on to become international players if trained properly.

Snooker

Snooker is a popular street sport in Pakistan; you will find several snooker clubs in almost every locality. Pakistan has won IBSF World Snooker Championship four times. Mohammad Yousuf won it in 1994, Mohammad Asif in 2012 & 2019, and teenager Ahsan Ramzan in 2022.

Our snooker players have left a mark on almost every international tournament in which they participated and some of our notable Pakistani snooker players have been are Asjad Iqbal, Babar Masih, Saleh Mohammad and Mohammad Sajjad, to name a few. However, none of them got recognition within Pakistan.

Most of these players trained and participated in international tournaments on their own, without any sponsorship or support from the government. Unfortunately, it is the same story as that of every other sport in our country except cricket.

The talent exists, but since there is no direction, it is being wasted on the street side snooker clubs.

Conclusion

Pakistan has become a single sports nation, courtesy of the popularity of cricket among the masses. The passion for cricket in Pakistan is on another level… there is a lot of emotion, enthusiasm, and jingoism involved in the game of cricket. This is the reason, the government and other relevant bodies invest more in the game and players get sponsorships, fame and whatnot.

Hence, the problem is not the focus on cricket, but the lack of focus on other sports. At one point, hockey was as popular as cricket today, but today it is laying helplessly on a ventilator; the same is the case with squash. Our nation – that revels in its cricket victories and celebrates them for years – seems to have forgotten the achievements of other sports too soon.

I hope Arshad Nadeem and Nooh Dastgir Butt would not be forgotten as soon, and sink into oblivion like athlete Abdul Khaliq or snooker players Mohammad Yousuf, and Mohammad Asif, along with so many other sports stars who brought glory to Pakistan but earned no recognition.

Free Fire vs PUBG, the ultimate comparison.

Moving towards the digital era, advanced gaming functions have become a commonplace expectation from smartphone devices. The gaming & esports culture in general has been on the rise in Pakistan, even before the offset of the pandemic where it peaked on a global scale. The growing trend presented a vacuum that 2 leading battle royale games captured, namely Free Fire and PUBG.

Gamers and fans from both sides have often sparked debates on which game is superior. We’re here to settle the debate:

Free Fire:

Free Fire is a world-class mobile shooting game with a very fun and diverse gameplay that offers gamers numerous modes such as Battle Royale & multiplayer. The game is renowned for its ingenious matchmaking system which makes it suitable for all kinds of players (newbie to pro) pairing you with similarly ranked players. Its inherent optimization makes it compatible with all kinds of devices (1Gb-12Gb RAM). As such, it’s been the indisputably most downloaded game globally for 3 consecutive years, with more than 1 billion downloads to date.

Free Fire has become more than just a game to a social platform where individuals can interact with each other. Garena Free Fire focuses on providing a wide variety of content and experiences allowing the gamer to explore new and engaging adventures before even the game starts.

PUBGM:

PUBGM is a player versus player shooter game which offers upto 100 players inside its battle royale mode. PUBG has amassed a great feat of 500M+ downloads globally, from its release in 2017. The game is renowned for its ‘real’ concentration on gun play, with their gun classifications & recoil standing out from the rest. PUBGM offers a number of unique options to mobile gamers such as the mini zone mode, war mode, and sniper mode in the arcade mode which are available for both TPP and FPP servers.

Despite being in the same genre, the two battle royale games are vastly different from each other. While the Krafton classic has more ‘real’ gameplay that is rooted in gunplay, Free Fire’s character abilities and numerous engaging game modes add additional elements to the mix.

Let’s compare the two:

PUBG is more inclined towards replicating real life battle scenarios and does a great job displaying it on a mobile screen using the Unreal Engine. Free Fire has a more fun-based theme which includes animations to attain their perfect blend of realism and fantasy.

It’s hard to judge which one is better since they have 2 different art style directions, but we still give PUBGM the edge as it’s our personal preference of the realism art style. Nonetheless, if you want to play a fun game with vibrant graphics and colors, we would still recommend Free Fire who did a better job at this.

Gameplay: (PUBG – 4/5, FREE FIRE – 4.5/5)

Both games are market leaders which they do have their fun and superior gameplay to thank for. Free Fire has the edge in terms of having varied gameplay with a well-developed character system and many more fun and creative modes such as Craftland & Lone Wolf. PUBGM, on the other hand, focuses on serving the hardcore Battle Royale players, with many similar function to the hit PC version of the game.

Overall, we’ve given Free Fire an additional 0.5 points because the gameplay is more diverse, game duration is a lot shorter. Hence it’s well-catered to gamers with all type of experience, from soft to hardcore.

Performance and Stability: (PUBGM 2/5, Free Fire 4/5)

For this one, Free Fire is a clear winner. PUBG Mobile is often under fire for its game lagging and app crashes, users have often complained about how the game only runs well on higher-end phones. Free Fire has optimized its game to run smoother on all phones with lower reports of glitches.

Gaming Community in Pakistan: (PUBGM 3.5/5, Free Fire 4.5/5)

Free Fire has a rampant community, with regularly scheduled meet-ups, online tournaments and unique initiatives like the Campus Challenge and Battle of Cities. PUBG too has a sizeable community and also engages its user through localized community campaigns like the Campus Empower Challenge.

Overall, judging from the size and the frequent engagements of the community, we have to give it to Free Fire in this category.

Free Fire has been visibly investing in esports in Pakistan, by setting up the first professional esports league of Pakistan and their winners, HOB represented Pakistan at the grand World Series in Singapore and have other national tournaments such as the Soobai Series. PUBGM has recently affiliated itself with Galaxy Racer where they too will host a large scale esports tournament with a sizable prize pool. We look forward to both games raising the level of esports in Pakistan.

PUBG Mobile has made some notable international collaborations with the likes of Liverpool FC, Tesla, Neymar and Spiderman (which featured in-game as well). They timely captured the Ertugral craze in Pakistan when they announced their collaboration. Free Fire itself has numerous noteworthy collaborations worldwide, such as Christiano Ronaldo for their in-game ‘Chrono”, BTS and Hrtihtik Roshan. They have shown a more local approach in Pakistan with more local collaborations such as cricketing icons Babar Azam & Shadab Khan. Perhaps it is just the difference between the marketing approach of the game publishers. However, we still give it to PUBGM for this category because of the frequency and how deeply integrated the collaboration is in the gameplay of the game.

In conclusion, Free Fire earns 25/30 points, whereas PUBGM earns 22/30 points. This is just an aggregate score of how we would rate the game functions overall, it does not necessarily mean one game is better than the other. Afterall, some gamers might just choose to play a game over just one of the factors above and everyone has their own unique preferences. Hence, we’ll leave it to you to decide whether a Booyah or Chicken Dinner suits you best.

Academic Burnout: 7 Ways You Can Prevent It

Burnout happens in the middle of life. No matter how cohesive you are, there comes a time in life when things seem out of control, and you can’t cope anymore. That’s also true for academic life. According to research, students have been experiencing more burnout than ever. Academic burnout happens when your academic life and general settings feel overwhelming. The feeling of anxiousness and irritation becomes more usual, and you can’t manage to handle day-to-day tasks.

With classwork piling up, the rocky transition to online learning and the added stress of the pandemic, burnout is widespread amongst students. The physical and emotional strain of keeping up with lectures, exams, and assignments causes burnout.

While there are many reasons behind academic burnout, the key is to negate the factors and work on them actively to spiral out of the zone. Here are a few tips that can help you prevent academic burnout.

1. Make Priority Lists

Making priority lists can help you evaluate the essential tasks that can be delayed for a bit. By clarifying your priorities to yourself and others, it will be easy to know which activities should be done first on your list. It will also enable you to make decisions when faced with multiple tasks and invitations quickly.

2. Find Practical Solutions

It is prevalent to face problems in your daily life. However, finding solutions for those problems simultaneously is key. Breaking down your tasks into manageable chunks, will reduce your stress levels and the impact of burnout. Meanwhile, you can always ask for help if you don’t find a way to break out of a problem.

3. Work On Your Wellbeing

We always neglect our needs when faced with multiple tasks and errands. Allowing your mind to relax and taking small breaks can impact your mental health. Skipping meals, exercising, and not drinking enough water can eventually decline your performance; leaving you prone to burnout. Make sure you get enough sleep to sharpen your focus and relax your mind and body from the tension you experience.

4. Learn To Say No

As a youth full of energy, you may fall into accepting every invitation and task. If you keep saying ‘yes’ to everything, you might get burnt out by thinking about how you can accomplish them in so little time. Learning to say ‘no’ to things that are not that important is a good step in avoiding burnout. This will also give you more time for yourself and the things you need and want to accomplish.

5. Take Regular Breaks

The 20-20-20 technique is incredibly beneficial when spending long days staring at a computer. Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 metres away for 20 seconds. This technique reduces the strain on your eyes and allows you to clear your mind before returning to work. It’s an easy way to reduce stress and prevent eyestrain-induced headaches.

6. Focus On Other Activities

Admit it or not, academic activities may not be something you always enjoy doing. If you’re suffering from decision fatigue and student burnout, recover by setting time once a day to do what you want. This may include going to the beach, watching movies, playing with your dog, or painting. When you do what you enjoy, you get motivated and feel a sense of purpose.

7. Limit Contact With Negative People

If surrounding yourself with positive people will help you recover from burnout, being with negative people can induce burnout and drag your mood. While working with negative people may not be helped, you can choose to limit the time you spend with them; so that your positive energy will not be sapped.

Having sugar is the ultimate treat— the rush, the satisfaction, and the comfort are unmatched. However, sugar is a deadly thing to consume and has been linked to various diseases. So, where do the people with sweet tooth go? Do they not have feelings? We know the pain that comes with being healthy so we’ve put together the best five healthy white sugar substitutes.

Why Should You Avoid White Sugar?

Those with a sweet tooth can consume more sugar than is advised. WHO advises that 6 Tbsp/day is the maximum limit. Eating too much sugar contributes to weight gain, tooth decay, elevated triglycerides and blood pressure, insulin resistance, and cardiovascular disease. So here’s what you can use to cut this out:

1. Stevia

The South American native plant stevia is 200–300 times sweeter than normal sugar. However, it has no calories and does not affect blood sugar levels. It’s the perfect substitute for diabetic people or people looking to have a healthy life!

2. Honey

Honey is one of the oldest natural sweeteners. This natural ingredient can range from light and mildly flavorful to dark and powerfully scented. It all depends on the plant it comes from.

If you opt for raw honey, you will also enjoy all of its incredible health advantages. For instance, improved sleep, a stronger immune system, and relief from seasonal allergies.

3. Coconut Sugar

This may sound unusual but it’s an excellent substitute for white sugar. Coconut sugar, which has a flavour and appearance similar to brown sugar, is made from the nectar of coconut palm flower buds. The best part is that it doesn’t cause a blood sugar increase as quickly as white sugar because of its low glycemic index. It also has minerals including potassium, zinc, iron, or calcium.

4. Dates

We all already know how precious dates are. They are one of the best natural sweeteners. They facilitate digestion and lower blood sugar absorption because of their high fibre content. Moreover, this dry fruit has nutrients like selenium, calcium, folate, and vitamin K.

5. Maple Syrup

Last but definitely not the least. This is maple syrup– the yummiest white sugar substitute. It is made from the sap of the North American native maple tree which is boiled. It gives your recipes a caramel-like flavour and (did you know?) is a great source of manganese and zinc.

7 Interesting Documentaries On Netflix That Are Worth Watching

Netflix has many great documentaries that cover various subjects, from true crime to sports to even filmmaking. Besides, fun documentaries are a great way to bring awareness to a broader audience and inspire and inform people.

Below, we’ve assembled a list of what we believe are the best documentaries on Netflix.

1. The Girl In The Picture

The Girl in the Picture is the latest true crime documentary from Netflix. It’s up there with its absolute best work. It feels like, after a period of needlessly bloated multi-episode documentaries, Netflix has started trimming the fat, rereleasing lean, incredibly compelling documentaries. First Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey and Our Father, now this.

Watch the trailer:

The Girl in the Picture tells the story of a young girl, murdered, aged 20. To say too much would spoil the impact, but this is a layered, brutal documentary with endless twists. It needs to be seen to be believed.

2. Our Father

As good as Netflix documentaries are, there’s been a tendency to drag true crime into these bloated multi-episode series. Thankfully Our Father is the opposite of that. It’s a lean, perfectly executed documentary focused on Donald Cline, an Indiana fertility Doctor who used his sperm to inseminate a ridiculous amount of women against their will. This is an incredible piece. One of those stories that escalate and escalates to the point where you’re jaw is dropping in disbelief.

This celebrity documentary movie also focuses on sensitive subjects such as eating disorders, the toxic social media culture, Taylor’s battle with an eating disorder, and media scrutiny.

realme Will Create 15 “1 Million Shipment” Markets Within the Next Three Years While Entering the Second Stage of Entrepreneurship

realme is fast approaching the four year anniversary of its debut as an independent brand in the smartphone market. The upcoming occasion of the realme 828 Fan Fest provides a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the long, arduous path the tech democratizer has taken to reach this stage and look forward towards what realme has in the pipeline. realme started off with the mission to empower the next generation of youth by providing them with access to leap-forward technology and trendy design concepts. Over 140 million loyal fans around the globe have been satisfied with the innovation, accessibility, and community that realme brings to the table. The task that realme had entering the market was an intimidating climb, with a highly saturated mobile phone market awaiting them and long-established players occupying the majority of the market.

Possessed by the “Dare to Leap” spirit, realme persevered in their quest to fulfill their mission, never faltering along the way. The desire to serve the youth with the innovative tech and design they need helped fuel the rising smartphone brand to keep going despite any challenges. As of now, realme still remains the only smartphone brand that is fully focused on the youth and empowering them to get ahead. With the complex and ever-changing market landscape that realme has found itself in, it is pertinent to ask whether the global smartphone brand can maintain its pace of growth, continue to surprise its user base, and mold itself according to changing times and economic conditions. After analyzing its global strategy, Sky Li is confident that they will be able to rise to the challenge.

Over time realme has gained confidence as a brand with its fan base sprawling across the globe. At present time realme has a firm foothold in the global smartphone industry and data shows that their comprehensive market rollout has been remarkable effective. While it is fun to recall the glory days of past, realme never dwells on them for too long as it has a forward-thinking focus. According to Sky Li, “realme is now entering its second stage of growth as a startup, and in this next phase of our journey we will further refine our focus on targeted, long-term growth. This means an added focus on product quality and market focus”. In order to better understand this new strategy, we have to delve a little further into what strategic changes realme is going to make going forward.

On the product side, realme is going to adopt the “Simply Better” strategy which will place a premium on product by increasing investment in R&D by 58% year-over-year in order to further advance its abilities of making essential tech innovations more accessible. With this strategy, realme is placing a greater emphasis on its number series of phones, which have famously been realme’s vehicle for tech-democratization in the past and are realme’s most essential product line. Number series phones pack high-tech features into a visually attractive design with an affordable price tag. In addition to an increased focus on improving product quality, realme will also be streamlining their operations by pooling their resources into global unified development to be more in line with the “Simply Better” strategy. Product improvement is seen as the cornerstone of realme’s growth moving forward.

The market side will be seeing positive changes as well. Now that its core markets have been defined, realme will place a new emphasis on stability over expansion. This new market focus goes by the name of “Market Cultivation” strategy, which will place particular focus on its two 10-million shipment markets while working towards building a core of fifteen 1-million shipment markets. Currently, realme has seven markets with annual shipments exceeding 1 million units with a spot in the Top 5 in certain markets. realme isn’t afraid of dreaming big and stands strong in its belief that it can climb even further to the very top.

The broad market uncertainty that the industry is currently facing does not phase realme. Daraz University and Visa Collaboration will help people to access quality training material

With the rapid evolution of technologies over the past couple of decades, entrepreneurs in developing countries like Pakistan are also gaining access to a whole new world of infotainment.  Building on the e-commerce opportunities and innovative business models, the Online-sellers can now nurture robust and sustainable ventures, delivering quality products to the consumer’s doorstep, at competitive prices.

However, many of these aspiring digital entrepreneurs do not have sufficient knowledge about: How to structure an online business, based on the ‘Online-Marketplace’ facilities; what rules and regulations must be followed; how to identify and engage the right target segments, interested in buying their products; how to raise sufficient investments to acquire the required resources; and how to manage the financial challenges in the long run.

Although there are lots of training programs available online from around the world, most of these tutorials are designed for various other nations. This is why they do not provide solutions for some specific socio-economic challenges faced in the Pakistani environment. Hence, there was a dire need to develop a training program that can provide deeper insights to resolve the specific operational issues of Online-sellers in Pakistan.

With a vision to overcome this dilemma, Daraz.pk – the largest online marketplace in Pakistan has launched a comprehensive training program, for teaching strategic management to the Online-Sellers of Pakistan for enhancing their performance. Participants will be able to accelerate their business growth and capture more segments and expand into international markets.

Visa a leading financial service company is providing modern educational resources and materials, free of cost, for adding value to the Daraz University Program. It also aims to create financial literacy and public awareness about the potential of E-commerce in Pakistan. This curriculum also explains the evolution of managerial practices and regulatory frameworks governing digital enterprises to build capacity.

These video tutorials, presentations and quizzes teach highly effective methods to increase sales; raise capital investments and identify target markets in the Pakistani environment. Entrepreneurs will learn to ensure optimum utilization of innovative E-commerce platforms, for structuring efficient and scalable businesses. The first 1,000 qualifiers will get the ‘Daraz X VISA Certification’, along with Free-Vouchers that grant Shipping-Credits or Daraz Packaging-Materials, sponsored by VISA.

This insightful program has already benefited more than 40,000 entrepreneurs, who have received free-of-cost education from Daraz University, since its establishment in 2018. This university can be conveniently accessed by anyone. Signing up for this program is not required

PUBG MOBILE Launches Gully Squad ‘Be The Hero’ Campaign

PUBG MOBILE, Pakistan’s No. 1 video gaming platform, has launched a recruitment drive for Gully Squad, which is an annual marketing campaign to squad up with friends and fight for the ultimate prize together.

This year, Gully Squad is operating under the theme ‘Be the Hero’ with Markhor, the national animal of Pakistan, the main star of the campaign. Marked as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Markhor truly reflects the brand spirit and matches the ethos of the PUBG MOBILE’s Gully Squad campaign. The Markhor set is specifically designed for Pakistani players with an aim to promote the country’s culture among its youth. With this campaign, everyone has a chance to become somebody whether they’re a student, a regular player, or just starting out.

The designer of the Markhor set from Odd sock Concepts LLP, a team of 2D artists from Lahore, Pakistan, shared their inspiration saying, Markhor symbolizes strength and resilience. Since it lives in the mountains, we designed elements based on tribal culture such as the use of a lot of leather, including funky leather boots, to make the concept edgy and exciting. It was an absolute pleasure working with PUBGM as they were respectful of the local customs and traditions, and welcomed the creative input of artists. They went the extra mile to give Pakistani talent the opportunity to represent themselves in the game”.

To widen the scope of this campaign, this year’s Gully Squad includes some of the most high-profile celebrities in the country such as Hania Aamir, Amna Ilyas, Junaid Khan, and the headlining heartthrob Imran Abbas embodying the Markhor as seen in this teaser below:

Speaking about the initiative, Khawar Naeem, Country Head Pakistan, Tencent Games said, “Gully Squad is PUBGM’s promise towards cultivating the culture of togetherness. Our youth derives inspiration from our heroes and this is an attempt to inspire individuals to be the heroes their squads need, in order to win. By offering an opportunity for everyone to win , PUBG MOBILE enables the youth to become stronger and resilient, not just as individuals but as squads”.

This season of Gully Squad features special surprises for Pakistani PUBGM players, including a cash lucky draw of PKR1,000,000 as well as a collaboration with the Pakistan Super League 7 Champions, Lahore Qalandars! Car sales begin to drop sharply in Fiscal year 2023

The car sales dropped 59% in July month on month (as compared to June), the first month of the fiscal year 2023 – to begin the year on a jinxed note.

“The sales clocked in at around 14000 units (both PAMA members and non-members sales), down 59% month on month,” read a Topline Securities’ research report.

Few new car assemblers, such as United Motors, Lucky Motor Corporation and Changan, don’t share their data with the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) as they are not the association’s members yet.

The reasons for decline of sales in June have been production issues, higher car prices, inflation resulting in low purchasing power of consumers, less working days due to Eid ul Adha holidays and restrictions on auto financing in July.

The sales have also dropped by 52% as compared year on year (as compared to July last year).

Toyota posted a decline of 62% to 2,375 units primarily due to non-production days in the month of July. Similarly, Hyundai sales were down by 89% month on month to 201 units from 1,871 units in June.

Suzuki sales dropped by 58%. All variants of the company reported decline in the range of 57% and 95% month on month basis except for Alto where sales increased to 4,618 units from 1,216 units in June largely due to low base effect.

Honda also recorded a decline of 35% month on month to 2,537 units in July led by decline in sales of city and civic units by 30%.

Amongst Tractors, Millat Tractors (MTL) recorded a decline of 60% MoM and 65% year on year to 1,011 units. Al Ghazi Tractors (AGTL) recorded sales of 1,243 units, down 48% month on month and 12% year on year.

Pakistan bike sales were down by 33% month on month and 34% year on year in July.

Trucks and buses sales were down 22% month on month and 37% year on year to 379 units in July primarily due to drop in transportation activities amid slow-down in overall economy.

The decline in sales of the auto industry in July is precursor to the industry’s annual sales in the complete fiscal year as the reasons for drop in sales is expected to sustain for the coming months too.

Toyota has just announced a decrease in prices of its car after sharp appreciation of the rupee against dollar recently. Other assemblers may also follow. But prices may still remain on the higher side while high inflation may keep purchasing power limited therefore forcing low demand for cars.

Meanwhile, the supply side will also remain under pressure as Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has also said that the government will keep imports reduced till September at least in an effort to bring the economy out of crisis.

Government has reduced imports of CKDs by limiting imports to only 50% of their average imports of the last four months which is expected to go up to 70% by September.

It means car assemblers may not be able to cater even subdued demand.

Some experts see demand falling between 25% and 35% this year. It means profitability of the car assemblers will take a hit.

5 Nutritious Treats You Can Make With Banana Peels

For some of us, cooking with banana peels is not news. South Indians, especially in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, have plenty of traditional banana-based recipes, including the peel. Be it out of necessity or creativity, it is the season of banana peels, and nothing can convince us otherwise.

Try these dishes with peels you will go wild for.

1. Banana Peel Chutney

The recipe is best made with organic banana peels, but for non-organic bananas, soak the peels in 4 parts water and 1-part white vinegar for 20 minutes before rinsing—a perfect option for summer lunches and gifts.

Ingredients

  • 6 ripe banana peels
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 garlic clove, chopped
  • 2 dried red chillies / red chilli flakes
  • salt per taste
  • 1 tablespoon of black mustard seeds
  • 3 tablespoons of garam masala
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 500 millilitres of orange juice

Instructions

  1. Soak the brown banana skins in cold water for an hour, replacing the water twice during that time, and then drain. Put the skins in a saucepan with fresh water, bring to a boil, simmer for five minutes, then drain and leave to cool. Once cool, roughly chop the skins into small pieces.
  2. Heat a large saucepan with a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, chilli and a teaspoon of salt, and saute for five minutes. Stir in the mustard seeds, curry powder, sugar, the chopped banana skin and one chopped banana. After two minutes, add the orange juice and leave to simmer for 10 minutes, until jammy.
  3. Decant into sterilised jars and keep them in the fridge for up to a month.

2. Banana ‘Bacon; Strips

This recipe is exactly what it sounds (and looks) like, raw banana peels that have been marinated in a mixture of sauces and spices. Banana bacon is a perfect rendition for all vegans and vegetarians.

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon vegan Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 banana peels, cut into four strips
  • 1/2-3/4 tablespoon avocado oil

Instructions

  1. Using a spoon, knife, or offset spatula scrape the pulp from the skin and discard it. Combine all marinade ingredients in a bowl, and blend until combined.
  2. Add the peels in a flat layer making sure to coat them evenly. Let them sit in the fridge for 2-4 hours. In a cold skillet, add oil, and lie down the peels with half an inch of space between them (do not overcrowd the pan). Do not put any excess marinade in the skillet, but don’t rub the peels free of the marinade. Over medium-low heat, let the peels begin to sizzle, and sputter for a couple of minutes, then flip them.
  3. Do this 2-3 times until the sugars have caramelised and the peels become dark and pruny. The appearance could be different based on the bananas you use. After about 12 minutes, remove the peels and place them on a wire rack to cool. Serve immediately, or store in an airtight container—only suitable for about 48 hours.

Will Karachi’s Infrastructure Stay Neglected Forever?

Karachi might not be the capital of Pakistan, but it sure is the backbone trying with all its might to sustain Pakistan. Amidst the economic crisis, climate changes, and everything in between, the needs of Karachi have been neglected time and again. While the current situation of Karachi, including its infrastructure, is horrendous – it is just a matter of time till it gets worse. This brings us to our point, i.e., ‘For how long will the authorities look the other way?’

The 2022 monsoon gave us a major deja vu, the constant flashbacks of the 2020 rain and the disastrous effects it left behind. The trauma is still there for those who suffered the most. And while it became a hot topic for social debate, no one was immune from the after-effects of the rain. Broken potholes, urban flooding, standing water which got swarmed with disease-causing flies for days, accidents, and children and adults drowning were some of the things we got to witness in 2020. While the authorities vowed to take all the necessary measures – come again in 2022, we are frightened of the weather’s uncertainty.

“Is this what Karachi deserves?”

The metropolis generates annual revenue of 65%. According to a report, around 95% of Sindh’s GDP is attributed to Karachi. As of 2019, Karachi has an estimated GDP of $164 billion with daily GDP of $449 million. With a month of showers, disrupted economic activity, power breakdowns and business shutdowns, imagine how much Karachi has lost, which ultimately impacts the overall economy of Pakistan within a month.

Our Witness – The Twitter

While our authorities might try to shut their eyes to the situation – the truth is everything is going in the social media record books. From the amount of taxes the Karachites pay to the money they have invested in renovating their neighborhoods, it feels like the money they have spent in building a life for themselves is going down the drain – literally.

Meanwhile, there is no accountability for the money which goes into taxes and conservancy charges. Despite the citizens paying millions in taxes and expenses – the government has failed to provide solutions to the citizens. The average annual taxation is reported by 62.4% from Karachi only.

Let’s walk through some of the most dangerous situations Karachi has been through in the past two years.

From Defence to Saddar and Johar to North – if there is one thing mutual, it’s the number of memories the citizens have created in this city. Meanwhile, it is not just the memories but also the problems the citizens of Karachi face daily. Karachi’s Infrastructure has been facing a major downfall, and no one is coming to its rescue.

The potholes which lead to accidents, the road craters which make the daily commute a hassle and damaged drainage systems are not just adding to the monsoon woes. They have become a significant problem for the residents.

Furthermore, the shortage of water and the lack of resources for the ever-growing population are some of the most common problems. The civic issues are many, but the solutions are none. The authorities might not bat an eye to the issues, but they are the ones who need to take accountability for doing damage to the city.

Futuristic Living That We’ve Only Seen In Movies

With so many real estate projects in Pakistan on the rise, it’s close to impossible to find the most futuristic & tech-enabled, sustainable, and state-of-the-art project that’s worth investing without breaking the bank while also being trust-worthy.

Having said that, we’ve recently spotted a project that’s taking Islamabad by storm. Their streamers and outdoor billboard are literally everywhere we go.

We did a little digging and found out about this real estate giant, namely AVALON City. The masterplan is in development as Pakistan’s first technological city. This is a state-of-the-art infrastructure designed and idealised as the Future of Real State in Pakistan. Embracing their tagline, they truly want you to ‘Envision Your Lifestyle’.

We found out this project sits at an ideal location of Chakri Road, adjacent to M2 Motorway, ensuring a convenient residence and commercial success for its residents and investors. Have you ever thought about having Smart Homes, Wi-Fi trees, 3D and Virtual Theatres, Electric Bikes, Automated Traffic Control? Well, AVALON City has got it all.

We know what you’re thinking. With all these offerings, they must be expensive as anything but after doing a thorough price comparison, we found out that their prices are very affordable compared to other projects in the vicinity.

The hashtag #AvalonCityIslamabad was trending on social media for the past couple of days.

Don’t believe us? Well, Netizens on social media are going nuts about this.

Some people are comparing it to Saudi Arabia’s The Line project.

While others are just excited that something progressive is coming to Pakistan.

iPhone users now find themselves in a pickle again because a new launch is approaching. So, are you an iPhone 13 loyalist or are you somebody who would prefer a new phone each time around? As the new phone starts becoming a crowd favorite, here’s how you can decide whether to stick with iPhone 13 or opt for the upcoming 14.

Read more: Is Using Your Phone Causing Injuries? Here’s What You Need To…

Why It Is Difficult

The iPhone purchasers must make a tough decision. Should they buy the iPhone 13 or not? The 13 has been termed the greatest phone at the moment. It made a debut over a year ago, and the iPhone 14 is probably coming in the coming month. Reports suggest September 6 while others say the end of September is most likely for the launch.

Buy or Wait

Critics are now weighing in on whether getting iPhone 13 or waiting for the iPhone 14 is similar to making any other buy-or-wait option. It largely depends on your own circumstances and what you’re looking for. For instance, if you need one phone right now immediately, then go for it. If you don’t want to settle for the specs already given, then wait!

The greatest iPhone currently in the market is the iPhone 13 Pro Max. It is everybody’s favorite. However, it’s also the most costly. While the Pro Max is the best one, the Pro is at $100 less. Moreover, the iPhone 13 Pro has a smaller display but many of the same capabilities.

14’s Rumours

Regardless of that, the iPhone 14 is already in construction. Many reports claim that the iPhone 14 will bring a new system-on-chip. A chip upgrade is expected and typical for every new iPhone generation. That also indicates that the A15 Bionic silicon that powers the devices currently will be replaced. Apple has also said to release a larger-scree. There will be a less expensive 6.7-inch model of the iPhone 14 with the current 6.1-inch model.

How To Prevent Your Earphones From Breaking

There’s no pain as great as the pain of earphones breaking. And what do we know? We feel that pain too many times nowadays since we somehow manage to always break them. So, how do we make sure our companions who keep the noise out and keep us entertained last? Here’s how:

About The Durability of Earphones

How durable are earphones? Wherever you get them from, the answer will remain same: not forever. Every set of earphones is destined to malfunction. That is because it is a sensitive device with numerous intricate parts, and over time, those parts will be jostled and worn out. Although you can delay it, you cannot stop it. Just like all the other things in life!

However, if you take good care of your earphones, you can extend their estimated lifespan by two or three years and use them for up to three years.

Don’t Leave The Cord On The Table

You might be tempted to just leave the lengthy cord lying around. If so, make extra sure it can’t ever be rolled over by the casters on your computer chair. One cut point is all that is needed to make the whole thing useless. Care is the secret ingredient to get them to last.

Don’t Let The Cord Hang

Another practice that might harm long-cord headphones is letting the cord dangle while using or sitting on the edge of a desk. It’s a risk even with the best-wired earphones. The reason behind it is that a dangling cord is essentially stuck bent at a 90-degree angle. This gives the internal wire unnecessary strain.

Forgetting They’re In Your Ears

Even the most careful among us experience this! After spending hours on your laptop watching games or a match, you suddenly realize that you need to use the restroom. You run, they get pulled back and snap, clatter, damaged.

Don’t Twist And Turn

Have you seen the “lifehacks” that demonstrate “crazy” methods for winding cables to make space? Ignore them! They are particularly bad for earbud users and might be behind your earbuds breaking so easily. The internal wires break faster when they are wrapped in tight loops and knots.

Don’t Throw In Randomly

Stop stuffing your earphones and headphones into your pockets, bags, or backpacks. No matter how delicately you do it, the cord will get tugged, stretched, twisted, bent, knotted etc. They are bound to get destroyed.
