In Pakistan on July 13, 2023, TikTok, the renowned platform for short-form mobile videos, unveiled two significant initiatives dedicated to bolstering the safety and well-being of teenagers. In response to valuable input from parents and caregivers, TikTok has expanded the capabilities of its Family Pairing feature, now offering enhanced content filtering options. This empowering functionality allows parents and caregivers to customize the content encountered by their teenagers on the app.

Through the content filtering tool, caregivers gain the ability to curate a tailored viewing experience for their teens by selectively filtering out specific words, hashtags, and themes deemed inappropriate or unsuitable. Recognizing the unique needs of every teenager, TikTok empowers caregivers to establish a safer and more personalized environment within the app.

To ensure the development of a comprehensive and inclusive safety framework, TikTok collaborated with renowned experts, including the Family Online Safety Institute. Leveraging their expertise and insights, TikTok strikes a delicate balance between addressing caregivers’ concerns and respecting teenagers’ rights to engage and participate in the online world. As part of this commitment, TikTok provides transparency, allowing teenagers to view the keywords added by their caregivers. This transparency fosters open conversations about online boundaries and safety while promoting mutual understanding between teenagers and parents.

The new content filtering feature builds upon TikTok’s existing Content Levels system, designed to prevent mature or complex themes from reaching users between the ages of 13 and 17. By integrating personalized content filters for parents, TikTok strengthens its dedication to creating a safer and more suitable environment for teenagers on the platform.

In addition to Family Pairing, TikTok proudly introduces its Youth Council—an initiative aimed at giving young users a voice and actively involving them in shaping TikTok’s policies and features. Serving as a platform for teenagers to share insights, ideas, and concerns, the Youth Council empowers them to contribute to the ongoing development of a safer and more inclusive TikTok community.

Could Swallowing Fecal Pills Improve Skin Cancer Therapy?

Fecal microbiota transplants (FMT) from healthy donors are safe and show promise in improving response to immunotherapy in patients with advanced melanoma. According to a multi-center study from Lawson Health Research Institute, the Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM), and the Jewish General Hospital (JGH).

Fecal Pills For Cancer Therapy 

A patient had to take between 30 and 40 pills of frozen human excrement from healthy donors. The pills were checked for pathogens to get that healthy gut flora into them. According to scientists these pills have no taste or smell. However, getting past the notion that it might be somewhat repulsive is the major factor coming in the way of production.

“The connection between the microbiome, the immune system, and cancer treatment is a growing field in science,” explains Dr. Saman Maleki, a scientist at Lawson and London Regional Cancer Program who served as the senior author of the study. “This study aimed to harness microbes to improve outcomes for patients with melanoma.”

“In this study, we aimed to improve melanoma patients’ response to immunotherapy by improving the health of their microbiome through fecal transplants.” Said Dr. John Lenehan, Medical Oncologist at London Health Sciences Center.

“These exciting results add to a rapidly growing list of publications suggesting that targeting the microbiome may provide a major advance in the use of immunotherapy for our patients with cancer,” said Dr. Wilson H. Miller Jr. professor in the Departments of Medicine and Oncology at McGill University, in a press.

Trial Details 

The majority of patients who had immunotherapy and fecal transplants saw no negative side effects. Five patients did have uncomfortable episodes, and they stopped receiving treatment. 65 % of subjects who still displayed signs of retaining the healthy microbiota of the donors responded to immunotherapy.

The trial differs from past fecal transplant studies. Since it is the first to administer samples to cancer patients in the form of capsules. The authors claim that the capsules have contributed to their success in raising immunotherapy response rates.

Another phase 2 experiment is in progress. Meanwhile, the effectiveness of fecal transplants in treating various diseases, such as pancreatic cancer and lung cancer, will be examined in this study. Additionally, evaluating fecal transplants for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and HIV is being discussed.

Pakistan now has an ambitious plan where Lahore is set to hoist a 500-foot flag, claiming the tallest in the region. Pakistan will literally raise the bar by unveiling the monumental 500-foot flag in Lahore, aiming to secure the title of the tallest flag in the region. Though this ambitious project comes with a hefty price tag of Rs. 400 million and will be shown in a grand flag-raising ceremony on Pakistan’s Independence Day in 2023.

This plan is part of an ongoing “tallest flag” rivalry between Pakistan and India that commenced in 2017. It all began when India proudly hoisted a 360-foot flag at the Attari-Wagah border in March of that year. Pakistan swiftly responded by raising a 400-foot flag at the same border on its Independence Day in August 2017. India then raised the stakes once more, unveiling a towering 418-foot flag at the Indo-Pak border in Amritsar later that October. Now, Pakistan intends to take the lead by installing a 500-foot flag at the iconic Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore.

Opinions regarding this competition vary, with some viewing it as a patriotic display of national pride. However, critics argue that it is a misuse of taxpayer money and valuable resources. Concerns have also been raised about potential environmental and security implications associated with such colossal flags, as they could pose threats to birds and aircraft.

The 500-foot Pakistani Flag

The Punjab government is funding this remarkable project. The flag itself will be crafted from polyester fabric, weighing a staggering 800 kg. The flagpole, composed of steel and concrete, will boast a base diameter of 12 feet and taper to 4 feet at the top. Enhanced with LED lights and a sound system, the flag will be visible from a distance of 15 km.

The flag-raising ceremony is scheduled for August 14, 2023, commemorating the 76th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence. The event will be attended by government officials, esteemed dignitaries, and prominent celebrities, and will be broadcasted live nationwide, capturing the nation’s pride and celebration.

After months of dedicated efforts, Pakistan has successfully sold a historic building located in Washington D.C. for an impressive sum of $7.1 million, as reported recently. The property, which has remained vacant since 2003, found a new owner in the form of Hafeez Khan, a Pakistani businessman.

Originally owned by the Pakistan Embassy, the building underwent a downgrading of its property classification by the District of Columbia government, resulting in an increase in taxes based on its assessed value.

Renowned as the R Street building, this architectural gem had previously served as a chancery, but in late 2022, it was put up for auction, attracting three bids. Unfortunately, the bidding process was later canceled by Pakistani authorities without disclosing any specific reasons. The highest bid received amounted to an impressive $6.8 million, exceeding the pre-auction evaluation benchmark of $4.5 million.

Over the course of more than a decade, the building remained unoccupied, and in 2018, its diplomatic status was revoked, thereby making it liable for local government taxes. To compound matters further, earlier this year, local authorities downgraded the building’s status, resulting in additional financial burdens. Initially categorized as Class 2 (commercial property) in 2018 and 2019, it was subsequently reclassified as Class 3 (vacant property) from 2020 to 2022.

Finally, in April 2023, due to its deteriorated condition, the building was further downgraded to Class 4 by the Department of Buildings, which indicates a structure that poses potential threats to health, safety, or general welfare. Various factors, such as its state of repair, security, and protection against weather damage, influenced this classification.

It is noteworthy that Class 3 properties are subjected to a tax rate of $5 per $100 of assessed value, while Class 4 properties face a higher tax rate of $10 per $100 of assessed value. Despite a $7 million loan sanctioned in 2010 by then-Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani to fund repairs, the building’s condition continued to deteriorate due to insufficient maintenance.

Riyadh Airport Authority Slams PIA With Warning

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has recently received a warning letter from the Riyadh airports authority concerning outstanding dues, according to sources.

The Warning Letter 

In the letter addressed to the PIA administration, the Riyadh airports authority emphasized the need to settle outstanding dues, amounting to over SAR 8.2 million, within a six-month period ending on July 15. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in the denial of the airline’s winter flight slot, as stated by the authority.

Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has also issued a warning to PIA regarding the unsettled dues. A spokesperson for PIA confirmed that the Riyadh airports authority had issued a reminder regarding the clearance of these outstanding payments.

Twitter-Like Experience, with Some Missing Features

Threads offers a user experience similar to Twitter, allowing users to share their thoughts as threaded posts, interact with others through likes and comments, and repost content. However, the app lacks certain features commonly found on Twitter and other popular social media platforms.

No Bookmarking or Saving Posts

One noticeable absence on Threads is the inability to bookmark or save posts for later. In contrast to Instagram’s Collections feature, which enables users to save favorite posts and Reels, Threads does not offer this functionality. Several other social media platforms, including Twitter, LinkedIn, and Meta-owned Facebook, allow users to save posts for future reference.

Limited Search Functionality

Threads also suffers from limited search capabilities. While Twitter provides trending hashtags and topics, the search tab on Threads only displays a list of accounts to follow. Searching for specific content on Threads yields results matching user accounts, lacking the broader search options found on platforms like Instagram. Furthermore, Threads does not currently support hashtags, making it impossible to discover trending content using this feature.

Profile Deletion Challenges

Unlike many other social media apps, Threads does not allow users to directly delete their profiles. Users can log in to Threads using their existing Instagram accounts, importing their bio and links. However, deleting a Threads profile requires deleting the entire Instagram account. Alternatively, users can temporarily deactivate their Threads profile, hiding their profile, threads, replies, and likes until reactivation.

Lack of Direct Messaging

One notable limitation of the Threads app is the absence of direct messaging functionality. Users cannot send messages to accounts they follow and are limited to interaction through comments. Ameer Gilani, in a recent interview, sat down for a long Q&A session. The interview which ran for over an hour catered to some of the most interesting questions. During a series of questions, the host asked the actor what he thinks about red flags in women.

“I do think over possessiveness. Asking about why didn’t you call, why didn’t you send a text. Where are you, who are you meeting? If I’m with my friends and in the middle, I get a call asking about my whereabouts then it is a huge turnoff. You have to give space. Of course, if someone is asking out of concern then that’s a different story.”

“I have a lot of female friends and my partner should be able to understand that. She should never expect me to break off with them.”

Another red flag in women according to the actor is if “someone tries to mold him into what she wants.” 

He then added that “over possessiveness, manipulative behavior, and anger are some of the things which I hate in a human being.”

Gilani then shared his thoughts about what qualities he likes in a life partner. According to him being best friends with someone is the most important thing for him.

“I want my life partner to be my best friend. I want my partner to be my best friend and that’s the most important quality I think. I want to be able to share everything with her and listen to her, I want to know about her. I don’t want her to hesitate just because she is marrying me, she has to maintain a certain demeanor.”

“I want her to be authentic as she can be because that’s how I’m. I can’t be fake or pretend.”

While talking about the societal norms he said that he doesn’t believe in any of them. He wants her life partner to be as natural as she can be. Further adding,

“I want her to be able to talk to me about whatever she has on her mind and in her heart. I would always like my partner to share if she doesn’t like something about my home or family. I would always raise my voice for my wife because I would want my sister’s husband to do the same for her.”

Saudi Arabia Commences Umrah Season for GCC Nationals

The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has officially commenced the new Umrah season for nationals of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. This includes Saudi Arabia itself, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

According to the announcement, GCC nationals can now apply for the permit through the ‘Nusuk’ or ‘Tawakkalna’ mobile apps. To streamline the permit acquisition process, the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has developed the Nusuk app. This app enables individuals to obtain permits for Umrah and visits to the Holy Rawdah at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah. Additionally, the Tawakkalna app verifies the health eligibility of applicants. This application process becomes available after the successful completion of this year’s Hajj season.

On July 12th, 2023, PUBG MOBILE, the globally popular mobile game, is set to launch a groundbreaking collaboration with Dragon Ball Super on Thursday. The highly anticipated Version 2.7 Update will introduce unique Dragon Ball Super modes, items, vehicles, areas, and more, marking one of the most significant partnerships in the history of PUBG MOBILE.

Dragon Ball Super-Themed Mode

Starting July 13th until September 4th, players can experience the first of two revolutionary Dragon Ball Super modes integrated into the game. This mode combines Dragon Ball elements with the classic PUBG MOBILE battle royale gameplay. By collecting seven Dragon Balls, players can summon Shenron at the Shenron Summoning Altar to make powerful in-game wishes. Additionally, four new Dragon Ball Super areas—Dragon Ball Village, Tenkaichi Budokai, Kame House, and Karin Tower—have been faithfully recreated in Erangel, Livik, and Sanhok maps.

Players can also utilize the new Hoipoi Capsule, which can transform into the three-seater Air Car for efficient traversal across the battlegrounds. The update introduces a “Ki” component, allowing players to gather energy to enhance mobility, execute the legendary Kamehameha beam, and use the Buku-jutsu (Levitation technique) for swift aerial movement. Scattered Senzu Beans can replenish Ki, health, and energy. Moreover, a hidden Dragon Ball Trial challenges players to search for the Dragon Balls while remaining visible to other teams, ultimately defending the Sheron Summoning Altar and making their wish to secure victory.

Battle Royale

Dragon Ball Super The second Dragon Ball Super mode, available from July 15th until September 4th, introduces a never-before-seen gameplay makeover in PUBG MOBILE. The battlegrounds are transformed into a stylistic animated art-style world, and players abandon traditional weaponry to become one of five Dragon Ball Super characters—Son Goku, Vegeta, Frieza, Piccolo, and Ultimate Gohan. Each character possesses unique main and support moves, and players must utilize their abilities strategically to be the last one standing. Spirit Crystlets and Spirit Crystals collected from the ground restore energy and upgrade moves, with the highest level being Level 4. Players can also make use of new features like Teleport Points and Updraft to navigate and manipulate the map.

Players can anticipate an upcoming in-game-themed event that offers exclusive Dragon Ball Super rewards such as the “Kamesennin Style Set.” The Version 2.7 Update also includes various gameplay enhancements, including improvements to the World of Wonder creative mode, the addition of the editable Summer Brawl gameplay template, and the introduction of the new assault rifle ACE32 available on all maps. Cycle 5 Season 13 receives new content, rewards, and cosmetics, while the latest Royale Pass Ace introduces fresh core rewards and Season Missions.

In response to a desecration incident that occurred in Sweden, the Kuwaiti government has now made a decision to print 100,000 copies of the Holy Quran in the Swedish language. This decision was made by the Council of Ministers, following the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, in order to promote the true Islamic faith’s message of tolerance.
