Babar Azam Fails Again, Scores 22 for Lahore Blues in National T20 Cup

Babar Azam Fails Again, Scores 22 in National T20 Cup

Babar Azam struggled again with the bat, this time in the National T20 Cup 2025 for Lahore Blues on Tuesday, March 18. Following a string of low scores for Pakistan in the recently concluded 2025 ICC Champions Trophy and the ODI tri-series, the Pakistani batter could only muster 22 runs while chasing 172 against Karachi Whites.

Opening the innings with Umar Siddique, Babar’s early dismissal triggered a collapse in the middle and lower order, leading to Lahore Blues’ 37-run defeat in match number 13 at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Babar Azam Fails to Anchor Lahore Blues’ Chase

Babar was left out of Pakistan’s T20I squad for the New Zealand tour after his poor performances in the home ODI tri-nation series and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

In his first match for Lahore Blues in the National T20 Cup, he failed to take his team to victory. He scored 22 runs off 17 balls, hitting three boundaries, before getting dismissed by Danish Aziz.

Despite being excluded from the T20I series against New Zealand, the 30-year-old will rejoin the Pakistan team for the three-match ODI series in New Zealand.

After the New Zealand tour, Babar will lead Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL 2025 season in Pakistan.

Google Celebrates Nowruz 2025 with a Special Doodle

Google Celebrates Nowruz 2025 With a Special Doodle

Google is celebrating Nowruz 2025, the Persian New Year, with a colourful Doodle designed by guest artist Pendar Yousefi. Nowruz marks the start of the New Year in the Persian calendar and has been observed for over 3,000 years. The word “Nowruz” translates to “new day” in Persian.

In 2025, Nowruz falls on March 20 at 5:01 AM EST (2:31 PM IST), coinciding with the vernal equinox.

According to Google, a key tradition of Nowruz is the haft-sin table, which is a beautiful arrangement of seven symbolic items, all starting with the Persian letter ‘sin.’ These symbols include:

  • Apples for beauty
  • Garlic for health
  • Olives for love
  • Berries for the sunrise
  • Vinegar for patience
  • Sprouts for rebirth
  • Wheat pudding for strength

Read More: Pakistan Declares Three-Day Eid-ul-Fitr Holidays

The Google Doodle incorporates various elements linked to Nowruz, such as cooking, blooming flowers, birds, apples and cleaning. The company also mentioned other traditions like spring cleaning, decorating eggs and jumping over bonfires, which is believed to clear negative energy from the past year and invite positivity.

What is Nowruz?

Nowruz is an important festival that marks the arrival of spring, symbolising rebirth, renewal and the triumph of light over darkness. Families and friends come together to enjoy cultural festivities, traditional dishes and outdoor activities.

The 13-day celebration concludes with Sizdah Bedar, a day spent outdoors with picnics. During this, Sabzeh (sprouted greens) is released into running water to wash away bad luck. The festival originated in Iran (formerly Persia) and is now celebrated worldwide.

In 2010, Nowruz was included in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. For those unfamiliar, a Google Doodle is a temporary, creative version of the Google logo, which appears on the search homepage to mark major events and occasions.

Pakistan Reopens Torkham Border After 26-Day Closure

Pakistan Reopens Torkham Border After 26-Day Closure

Pakistan reopened the Torkham border crossing with Afghanistan on Wednesday after 26 days of closure due to a dispute over a checkpoint built by Kabul.

Cargo trucks started moving again, and trade fully resumed by 4 pm. Afghan forces recently fired across the border, damaging the immigration system, so pedestrian travel will remain closed for at least two to three more days.

During the closure, local elders, religious scholars and business leaders held two meetings with an Afghan delegation. They suggested steps to rebuild trust and reopen the border. Pakistani representatives Malik Tajuddin and Shah Khalid Shinwari said they asked Afghan officials to agree to a ceasefire and stop building the checkpoint before the border could reopen.

Read more: Pakistan Rejects Afghan Taliban’s Request to Extend Refugee Stay

The decision to reopen the border came after these meetings, from both sides. Reports say the Afghan Taliban agreed to stop building the disputed checkpoint, which was Pakistan’s main demand. Then, officials from both countries held a meeting on Wednesday before allowing trade to restart.

Authorities called back customs staff to duty and began repairing the FIA scanner used for checking pedestrians. Once they fix it, people will be allowed to cross the border again.
For now, only Afghan patients needing urgent medical care can enter Pakistan, according to security officials.

With trade back to normal, Pakistani trucks have started entering Afghanistan, and Afghan trucks carrying goods have crossed into Pakistan. Security and government staff are at the border to ensure smooth operations.

Torkham is an important trade route, with around 1,500 cargo trucks passing daily. Customs officials say trade through Torkham adds about $3 million per day to Pakistan’s economy, and total daily trade between both countries is around $1.5 billion.

Eid Al-Fitr is one of the two major Islamic festivals. The other, Eid-ul-Adha, involves the sacrifice of animals like sheep and goats. The meat is distributed among family, friends and those in need. Seema Haider, Who Entered India Illegally, Welcomes Fifth Child

Seema Haider, Who Entered India Illegally, Welcomes Fifth Child

Seema Haider, who entered India illegally from Sindh, Pakistan, in 2023 via Nepal, gave birth to a baby girl on Tuesday morning. The delivery took place at Greater Noida’s Krishna Hospital at 4 AM. Both the mother and the newborn are healthy.

Seema and Sachin Meena met while playing PUBG online and later fell in love. This is 23-year-old Seema’s fifth child. Her four children from her Pakistani husband are currently living with her and Sachin.

A video of Seema Haider’s daughter has surfaced online, with many users praising how cute the baby looks. Seema Haider’s lawyer, AP Singh, confirmed, “Seema gave birth to a daughter through normal delivery. Both mother and child are healthy. They will be discharged from the hospital soon.” Sachin Meena’s family expressed happiness and called it a new chapter for their family. The baby’s name will be decided soon.

Legal experts have stated that since the baby was born in India, she automatically qualifies for Indian citizenship. “Citizenship by birth has been given priority in our Constitution. In such a situation, the child will automatically be considered an Indian citizen,” they explained.

Seema Haider’s first husband, Ghulam Haider, has repeatedly demanded her return to Pakistan. He claims that she was misled and insists that their children should be raised in Pakistan. He had also urged the Indian government to deport her. However, Seema has refused to go back. She said, “I would rather die than return or leave Sachin. I request the Indian government to grant me citizenship.”

In January, there were rumours about Seema’s pregnancy, which she and Sachin denied in an April interview. Speaking to ABP News at that time, she had said, “I have four children, and I’ve already clarified that people make up stories on their own. If there’s happiness or any good news, we will announce it to everyone. But as of now, there’s no such thing. People are always speculating about what will happen or what won’t, but we’re not denying anything. We will have a child together someday, but we have four children for now.”

Ex-Commissioner’s Daughter Assaults Air Hostess on SereneAir Flight

Ex-Commissioner’s Daughter Assaults Air Hostess on SereneAir Flight

A troubling incident occurred on a SereneAir flight at Quetta Airport when the daughter of a former commissioner attacked an air hostess.

Reports state that two passengers, Iftikhar Jogezai and his daughter Saima Jogezai, were travelling on SereneAir flight number 540 from Quetta to Islamabad when the situation unfolded. During check-in on March 18, 2025, Saima allegedly misbehaved with the airline’s counter staff. Witnesses say she appeared intoxicated and stopped other passengers from approaching her.

After boarding, both passengers allegedly insulted and verbally abused the cabin crew when they were politely shown their seats. They eventually sat down, but as the aircraft prepared for takeoff, Saima stood up again. She began shouting profanities and issuing threats, causing discomfort among other passengers.

Seeing the disturbance, the captain decided to return the aircraft and ordered the removal of both passengers. Iftikhar Jogezai exited the plane, but Saima refused to leave. In her rage, she attacked a flight attendant, injuring her. The airline management confirmed that the assault left the cabin crew member with a bleeding nose and a cracked tooth.

Airport Security Force (ASF) arrested both individuals after the attack. Meanwhile, the injured air hostess was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The Quetta Commissioner arrived at the airport immediately, inquired about the situation, and instructed ASF to resolve the issue.

As of now, the father and daughter remain in ASF custody. However, there is increasing official pressure on the airline, airport authorities and ASF to release them. The incident has sparked concerns about airline crew safety, with many calling for strict legal action against such misconduct.

‘Social Media Filters Can Trigger Depression’ Expert Claims

'Social Media Filters Can Trigger Depression' Expert Claims

With social media further ruling the lives of adolescents, fears are being raised over the ill impacts of beauty filters. Experts alert that these so-called innocent weapons are capable of instigating all sorts of mental illnesses, from depression to anxiety and an erroneous perception of one’s own identity.

'Social Media Filters Can Trigger Depression' Expert Claims
‘Social Media Filters Can Trigger Depression’ Expert Claims

Unrealistic Beauty Standards Fueling Mental Health Issues

Social media expert Muhammad Hussain has highlighted how overuse of filters can ruin the self-esteem of teenagers. The filtered perfection showcased through filters generates unrealistic standards of beauty. Teenage girls are especially vulnerable to this. “These filters give unrealistic standards of beauty, leading to a warped sense of self-image and constant feelings of inadequacy,” Hussain states.

The Disconnect Between Reality and Perception

The root of the problem is the disconnect that these filters cause between what is real and what is perceived. Teenagers who regularly use filters to make themselves look better start identifying their self-worth with the idealised versions of themselves. This distortion causes them to suffer a negative effect on their mental well-being as they feel compelled to live up to unattainable expectations.

In addition, the continuous need for approval in the form of likes, comments and shares only exacerbates the problem. As Hussain explains, “The constant need for validation through likes and comments can be damaging to their mental health.” This approval-seeking cycle of never being good enough can make teens feel disconnected from their real thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations.

Government Intervention and Parental Responsibility

Realising the risks, the government of India tabled a bill, which imposed an age cap for social media usage from 14 to 16 years. It sought to safeguard young users from the ill effects of too much exposure to social media, including the use of beauty filters, which are harmful. But, is the law really being followed?

Laws alone are never enough. Parents and guardians have to take a proactive role to protect their children’s mental health. Open dialogue regarding the dangers of social media, a healthy body image and good online practices are all part of the solution.

Embracing Authenticity Over Perfection

Ultimately, the solution is to cultivate a mindset that appreciates authenticity over superficial perfection. As society increasingly becomes aware of the darker aspects of social media filters, it’s important to steer teenagers toward accepting their authentic selves — blemishes and all.

Pakistan Awaits Moon Sighting to Confirm Eid ul-Fitr Holidays

Rare Sighting of Four Snow Leopards in Northern Pakistan Sparks Excitement

Rare Sighting of Four Snow Leopards in Northern Pakistan Sparks Excitement

A video of four rarely-seen snow leopards clambering up snowy cliffs in Northern Pakistan has surfaced online. And the cooperationist couldn’t be happier on this sighting. A ray of hope in conversation efforts!

About the Sighting of the Snow Leopards

Sakhawat Ali, a photography enthusiast from the remote village of Hushe captured this rare moment on March 13. According to Sakhawat, this moment came after 2 weeks of tracking their pawprints. It is said that he first spotted the mother and then started noting additional pawprints.

He later “got lucky” sighting the animals together on a nearby cliff. He then scampered out with his camera to film them, from a distance of 200 meters.

The Rarity of Snow Leopards

Snow leopards are currently listed as “vulnerable” and “endangered” on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. Their global population is estimated at 4,000 to 6,500. Their habitat spreads over 12 nations and they only live in the high alpine areas of the Himalayas. This includes China, Bhutan, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Russia and Mongolia. Even in these nations, the sightings are extremely rare.

These big cats are known locally as the “ghost of the mountains,” because of how easily they camouflage in their natural habitat of the Karakoram Mountain range in Pakistan.

Environmental anthropologist Shafqat Hussain says the rocky terrain in the north of Pakistan is perhaps the “best snow leopard habitat in the world.”

The Endangered Snow Leopard
The Endangered Snow Leopard

The Possible Threats to Snow Leopards

These big cats face ongoing threats from habitat loss, climate change and poaching.

According to the United Nation’s Environment Programme “human activities and growing livestock herds in some areas have led to the degradation of pastureland and wildlife habitats,” affecting the snow leopards food supplies.

Other threats according to the UNEP include the fragmentation of the animal’s habitat due to massive new infrastructure projects in addition to climate change. This aggravates these existing threats.

Moreover, retaliatory killings remains a concern. This is because herders occasionally target snow leopards in response to livestock losses.

The Conservation Efforts

Pakistani conservation groups are working to address these challenges through compensation programmes and educational campaigns.

The Snow Leopard Foundation (SLF), working with international organisations such as the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), has also introduced livestock vaccination programmes and compensation funds to mitigate economic losses for herders affected by snow leopard predation.

It is no doubt that Pakistan has made significant strides in snow leopard conservation. This is a big “win” for these conversational efforts and we wish to only hear more such news in the future.

Seifert’s 45 off 22 balls ended when Mohammad Ali claimed his maiden T20I wicket, while Allen smashed 38 off 16 before falling to Jahandad Khan.

Pakistan made brief inroads, dismissing Mark Chapman (1) and Jimmy Neesham (14), but a steady 35-run partnership between Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Hay kept New Zealand on course. Haris Rauf removed Mitchell (14), yet Michael Bracewell and Hay sealed the win with 11 balls to spare.

Pakistan’s batting woes continued with early wickets once again derailing their innings. Captain Salman Ali Agha and Irfan Khan built a 31-run stand before Ish Sodhi’s double strike in the seventh over removed Irfan (11) and Khushdil Shah (2), leaving Pakistan struggling at 52-4.

Agha fought back with a 28-ball 46, supported by Shadab Khan’s 24, but their dismissals exposed the lower order. A late 22-run cameo from Shaheen Afridi pushed the total to 135, which proved insufficient.

With the series slipping away, Pakistan will aim for a turnaround in Auckland to keep their chances alive.

Armaghan Faces Legal Shake-Up as His Lawyer Withdraws

Armaghan Faces Legal Shake-Up as His Lawyer Withdraws

In an unexpected turn of events, senior lawyer Abid Zaman Advocate withdrew from representing Armaghan Qureshi, the main accused in the Mustafa Amir kidnapping and murder case. The move came on Tuesday, the same day an anti-terrorism court (ATC) extended Armaghan’s physical remand until 24 March.

According to reports, Abid Zaman, who had been handling the case, stepped down after Armaghan’s father (who is also a lawyer) expressed his intention to take over the defence personally. This sudden change raises questions about the defence strategy and the role of new legal representation.

Earlier, during a hearing at ATC No. 4 in the Jail Anti-Terrorism Complex, defence counsel Tahir-ur-Rehman Tanoli requested the judge to summon Armaghan’s mother as a witness. Another defence lawyer, Khurram Abbas, suggested that Kamran Qureshi, Armaghan’s father, should also be called to court. Advocate Tanoli assured the judge that their presence would not cause any disruptions.

Following these requests, the judge ordered both parents to attend the hearing. Meanwhile, Special Prosecutor Zulfiqar Ali Arain informed the court that Armaghan’s father had allegedly threatened him. The judge asked why no formal complaint had been lodged under the Lawyers Protection Act and Arain confirmed that he had already applied.

Investigating Officer (IO) Afsar Muhammad Ali was questioned about whether a formal case had been registered. He confirmed that the required paperwork had been filed.

The court has expressed concern over delays in the case, emphasising the consequences of further postponements. Tensions also rose when the judge ordered Armaghan to sign a power of attorney. However, the accused refused, stating that he did not wish to appoint a lawyer.

abdul-rauf-blasts-pcb-over-poor-pitches-shan-masood-joins-leicestershire-county-cricket

Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood is heading to Leicestershire for the 2025 summer! The experienced left-hander has signed an all-format deal, bringing his wealth of knowledge and solid batting skills to the Foxes.

Masood, 35, is set to make his debut on May 31 against none other than his former club, Derbyshire. Talk about a dramatic start!

A Move from Yorkshire to Leicestershire

This signing marks the end of Masood’s time at Yorkshire, where he served as captain since 2023. His impact was huge—he racked up 1,240 County Championship runs at an average of 53.91, helping Yorkshire earn promotion to Division One.

Before that, he had an incredible 2022 season with Derbyshire, scoring 1,078 runs at a staggering average of 82.61. That season included back-to-back double centuries, one of which was a dominant 219 against Leicestershire—the very team he’s now joining!

Why Leicestershire?

Shan Masood is eager to take on this new challenge, and he’s full of praise for his new team.

“I am really excited to have the chance to play all three formats for Leicestershire. I have always admired the club and have had great conversations with a lot of the team over the last three seasons.”

The Uptonsteel County Ground is already one of his favorite venues, and he’s looking forward to playing in front of passionate Foxes fans.

What Does This Mean for Leicestershire?

Shan Masood joins club captain Peter Handscomb and Netherlands all-rounder Logan van Beek as Leicestershire’s overseas signings for the season.

Director of Cricket Claude Henderson couldn’t be happier with the addition:

“We are delighted to welcome someone of Shan’s calibre to Leicestershire. He is a proven talent both internationally and in county cricket, and someone who can win matches in all three formats.”

With his leadership, experience, and match-winning abilities, Masood is set to be a key player across all formats.

For now, it looks like Masood will be available throughout the summer since Pakistan has no scheduled Test matches in England. However, things could change if the PCB calls him up for the limited-overs tour of the Caribbean in July.

That said, his last white-ball appearance for Pakistan was in May 2023, so for now, Leicestershire fans can expect to see plenty of him in action.

Is Another Pandemic on Horizon? New Corona Virus Discovered in Brazilian Bats

Is Another Pandemic on Horizon? New Corona Virus Discovered in Brazilian Bats

Researchers in Brazil identified a new coronavirus in bats, raising doubts regarding its possible threat to humans. The virus, highly similar to the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), was identified after thorough research carried out by São Paulo and Ceará teams in conjunction with Hong Kong University.

Genetic Similarity to MERS-CoV

The research, which has been published in the Journal of Medical Virology, points out that this new virus has approximately 72% of its genetic makeup identical to MERS-CoV. Even more alarmingly is the similarity of its spike protein — the most important component of the virus about adhering to host cells — that is 71.74% similar to that of MERS-CoV. This similarity suggests the potential for the new virus to interact with the same receptors that MERS-CoV utilises to infect humans.

MERS-CoV, which was discovered in 2012, is a viral respiratory infection that has the potential to bring about mild to severe symptoms such as fever, cough and shortness of breath. It has the potential to result in pneumonia among some patients and has been at the centre of major outbreaks in the past. Despite this, scientists are not yet certain regarding the infectious potential of this newly identified virus.

Future Research and Concerns

Bruna Stefanie Silvério, the author of the study, said that scientists are going to conduct additional experiments in Hong Kong this year to see if the new virus can infect humans. The experiments will be important in assessing the possible risk it presents and coming up with early intervention measures if necessary.

Ricardo Durães-Carvalho, co-author of the study, stressed the need for ongoing monitoring. “Bats are viral reservoirs of importance and should thus be subjected to ongoing epidemiological surveillance. Such monitoring allows us to detect circulating viruses and transmission risks to other animals, and even to humans,” he said.

Call for Enhanced Monitoring

In their research, the scientists took 423 oral and rectal swabs from 16 bat species in Fortaleza, northeastern Brazil. Seven coronaviruses were isolated, and the new one was found to be highly similar to coronaviruses related to MERS previously isolated from humans and camels.

Experts now advocate for increased systematic and integrated examination of viruses from wildlife. Greater surveillance and information-sharing platforms might assist health systems in tracing and anticipating potential outbreaks earlier, preventing their spread. There is as yet no proof of human infection, but researchers remain alert to the fact that the early warning is essential in order to avert the next global health threat.

Bangladesh Set to Tour Pakistan for White-Ball Series – Here’s What We Know

Schedule For Pakistan-Bangladesh T20I Series Revealed
Schedule For Pakistan-Bangladesh T20I Series Revealed

Pakistan cricket fans have something exciting to look forward to in May as the Bangladesh men’s team is all set to tour the country for a limited-overs series, featuring three ODIs and three T20Is.

This will be Bangladesh’s second tour in two years, and if history is any indication, they’ll be feeling confident. The last time they visited, they stunned Pakistan with a 2-0 Test series victory—a result that’s still fresh in the minds of cricket fans.

The series is expected to take place right after the PSL 2025, which is scheduled to run from April 11 to May 18. While the exact dates haven’t been announced yet, media reports suggest that Faisalabad, Multan, and Lahore will host the matches.

Originally, this series was part of the Future Tours Programme (FTP) but got postponed due to scheduling conflicts.

However, things took a positive turn after Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chairman Faruque Ahmed visited Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025 discussions.

Following his meetings with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, both boards agreed to reschedule the series for May.

Ahmed expressed his gratitude, saying: “I would like to thank PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi for inviting me. There has been a discussion between the two boards to hold a white-ball series apart from the FTP. The boards are in talks to schedule the series.”

Naqvi, in return, appreciated Bangladesh’s support for the Champions Trophy 2025 and confirmed that discussions had been ongoing for weeks.

ECB Rejects Saudi’s Global T20 League Plan – Here’s Why

ecb-rejects-saudi-global-t20-league-plan-heres-why

Cricket fans were recently buzzing about a potential Saudi-backed global T20 league, but the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has shut down the idea completely.

With a jam-packed international schedule and growing concerns over player workload, the ECB made it clear—they’re not on board.

What Was the Plan?

The proposed league, called the ‘Grand Slam of Cricket,’ was designed to mirror tennis Grand Slams, featuring eight teams playing in four different locations worldwide. Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund was set to bankroll the tournament, promising big money and global appeal.

But the ECB isn’t buying into the hype.

Why Did the ECB Reject It?

ECB chief executive Richard Gould didn’t mince words.

“With the busy international calendar, a host of established franchise leagues around the world, and existing concerns about player workloads, there is no scope or demand for such an idea,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Simply put, there are already too many T20 leagues. Between the IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, SA20, ILT20, and The Hundred, players barely get time to breathe.

The ECB has its own investment to protect too—The Hundred, England’s 100-ball competition, recently secured $1.27 billion in private franchise funding. Naturally, they don’t want another tournament competing for attention.

Not Everyone Is Against It

Interestingly, the Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) is open to the idea of a Saudi-backed global T20 league.

According to the ACA, such a league could actually benefit players, especially in areas like collective bargaining and gender-equity pay for male and female cricketers.

So while the ECB is saying “no chance,” some cricketers might welcome the opportunity for better pay and more financial security.

Is There Room for Another T20 League?

With so many T20 leagues already in play, the big question is: Do we really need another one? On one hand, a globally recognized league with top-tier financial backing could shake things up.

On the other, player burnout is already a huge concern, and adding another competition to the mix could push things over the edge. For now, the ECB has put its foot down. But with Saudi Arabia’s deep pockets, don’t be surprised if the idea resurfaces in the future.
