Najam Sethi Responds To Shahid Afridi’s Comment Over World Cup

Source: Cricket Addictor

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has questioned the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to boycott the 2023 World Cup if it is held in India.

In an interview with BBC Urdu, Afridi said that he was “surprised” by the PCB’s decision. He said that cricket is a sport and that politics should not get in the way of it.

“I don’t understand why they (PCB) are so adamant and keep saying that we won’t go to India,” Afridi said. “Cricket is a sport and we should not let politics get in the way of it.”

Afridi’s comments have been met with mixed reactions. Some people have supported him, saying that the PCB should not boycott the World Cup. Others have criticized him, saying that he is not qualified to comment on the issue.

What should PCB do?

The PCB has not yet responded to Afridi’s comments. However, it is likely that the PCB will stick to its decision to not play in the World Cup if it is held in India.

The security situation in India is a major concern for the PCB. India has a long history of terrorist attacks, and the PCB is worried about the safety of its players and officials. The PCB is also concerned about the safety of Pakistani fans who would travel to India to watch the World Cup.

Politics effecting sports

The political climate between Pakistan and India is also a major concern for the PCB. The two countries have a long history of rivalry and tension. In addition, the financial implications of a boycott are also a major concern for the PCB. The PCB would lose out on a significant amount of revenue if it boycotted the World Cup. The PCB would also lose out on the opportunity to promote Pakistan cricket on the world stage.

The PCB is facing a difficult decision. There are a number of factors that the PCB is considering, and there is no easy answer. The PCB will need to weigh all of the factors carefully before making a decision.

Najam Sethi Responds

Najam Sethi, the chairman of the PCB management committee, has responded to Afridi’s criticism. Sethi said that the PCB’s decision to boycott the World Cup if it is held in India is a “political” one.

“This is a political decision and it is not up to Shahid Afridi to comment on it,” Sethi said. “The PCB has taken this decision after careful consideration of all the factors involved.”

Sethi said that the PCB is not “boycotting” India. He said that the PCB is simply not playing in the World Cup if it is held in India.

“We are open to playing in the World Cup if it is held in a neutral venue,” Sethi said. “We are also open to playing in the World Cup if it is held in India, but only if the security situation is guaranteed.”

Is this the right decision?

Sethi’s response has been met with mixed reactions. Some people have supported Sethi, saying that the PCB is right to take a political stance. Others have criticized Sethi, saying that the PCB is making a mistake by boycotting the World Cup.

The PCB’s decision to boycott the World Cup if it is held in India is a controversial one. There are a number of factors that the PCB is considering, and there is no easy answer. The PCB will need to weigh all of the factors carefully before making a decision.

Pakistan Sets Sights On 30% Electric Vehicle Adoption By 2030

Pakistan has set a goal of having 30% of all vehicles in the country be electric by 2030. This is part of the government’s efforts to reduce pollution and improve air quality.

The government has already taken some steps to promote the use of electric vehicles. In 2020, it introduced a policy that provides subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles. The government has also waived import duties on electric vehicles.

The government is also working to develop the infrastructure needed to support the use of electric vehicles. This includes building charging stations and developing a network of battery swapping stations.

The government’s goal of having 30% of all vehicles be electric by 2030 is ambitious, but it is achievable. With the right policies and investments, Pakistan can make the transition to a cleaner and more sustainable transportation system.

Benefits of Electric Vehicles

There are a number of benefits to using electric vehicles. Electric vehicles produce zero emissions, which helps to improve air quality. They are also more efficient than gasoline-powered vehicles, which means that they save money on fuel costs.

Electric vehicles are also quieter than gasoline-powered vehicles, which can help to reduce noise pollution. They are also easier to maintain than gasoline-powered vehicles, which can save money on maintenance costs.

Challenges of Electric Vehicles

There are also some challenges to using electric vehicles. One challenge is the cost of electric vehicles. Electric vehicles are typically more expensive than gasoline-powered vehicles. However, the cost of electric vehicles is coming down, and they are becoming more affordable.

Another challenge is the lack of charging infrastructure. There are not as many charging stations available as there are gas stations. However, the government is working to address this challenge by building more charging stations.

Robot Hand’s Hyper-Sensitivity Mirrors Human Touch

The human touch is incredibly complicated, so much so that most contemporary robots and artificial intelligence systems struggle to comprehend how it functions.

The ability of machines to manipulate their targets (such as assembling, reorienting, and packaging) is still mainly elusive, even though they are already fairly good at grasping and replacing items. However, scientists recently developed an incredibly dexterous robot after realizing it required fewer, rather than more, sensory inputs. Created by Columbia Engineers, combines an improved sense of touch with motor-learning algorithms and does not rely on vision to manipulate objects.

“[This is] a novel method for achieving dexterous manipulation of complex objects, while simultaneously securing the object without the use of passive support surfaces,” the researchers said in a study recently posted to the preprint server arXiv.

“[We used] the strength of both RL and SBP methods to train motor control policies for in-hand manipulation with finger gaiting,” the researchers said. “We aim to manipulate more difficult objects, including concave shapes, while securing them at all times without relying on support surfaces.”

Robotic Commands

Developing a set of instructions is simple for an AI. It can instruct the robot on what to perform, but most robots are not very good at giving feedback. With fingertips that can precisely feel what they are touching and discern an object’s movement and location, the new robot hand goes beyond that. It required another algorithm, the rapidly exploring random tree (RRT), to do this. The hand can grasp more challenging things because of this method. RRT locates the branch of the tree that provides the shortest route from the current state to the state that denotes the completion of a job.

WhatsApp Finally Launches Message Editing Feature

WhatsApp has been on a very consistent roll of launching one update after the other. They have given users some really exciting updates lately for example being able to react to texts with different emojis and being able to access their WhatsApp on more than one device at a time. Now, they are introducing a new feature! Users will now be able to edit their sent text messages and resend them. So it’s okay if you now send the wrong text to someone that it should’ve been sent to.

This message editing feature has been long requested by WhatsApp users because let’s be honest we’ve all sent the wrong texts to someone else. So addressing the importance of error correction and message editing, the company recently announced the launch of this feature in a blog post. Over the upcoming weeks, this update will be gradually launched to WhatsApp users across the globe.

The Update

Once this text editing feature becomes available, users will have the power to edit their messages within a convenient 15-minute timeframe after they have sent their text. By simply long-pressing the message and selecting the “edit” option from the drop-down menu, individuals can now make necessary modifications. However, for your information, the edited message will be marked as edited, ensuring transparency, while the edit history itself remains discreetly undisclosed. This means that the other person will know that you have edited the text.

Moreover, once the 15-minute window is over, you will not be able to edit the text any longer. And if you still haven’t been able to make the necessary modifications, you will eventually have to delete the message and resend another one, a revised version.

Monitoring Mental Well-being: AI Driven Smartwatches & Fitbits

Recent studies suggest that fitness trackers like Fitbit and smartwatches can monitor a person’s mental health and well-being. According to scientists, technology like the Apple Watch can evaluate psychological states remotely. While, rendering outdated the use of traditional questionnaire-based evaluations.

Meanwhile, The study also demonstrated how machine learning or artificial intelligence (AI) may be used to analyze passively gathered data to assess patient resilience and general well-being. As well as, the capacity to bounce back from difficulty, is essential for lowering stress, preventing illness, and managing chronic diseases

Trackers & Mental Health

Based on data analysis from the Warrior Watch Study, which tracked the heart rhythms of 329 healthcare professionals at seven hospitals for a week, the study was conducted. These individuals participated in surveys on emotional support, resilience, and optimism while wearing Apple Watches. The measures gathered were successful in predicting these outcomes.

Mental health disorders are common, accounting for 13 percent of the burden of global disease, with a quarter of the population at some point experiencing psychological illness. Yet we have limited resources for their evaluation, say the researchers.

“Wearables provide a means to continually collect information about an individual’s physical state. Our results provide insight into the feasibility of assessing psychological characteristics from this passively collected data,” said first author Robert P Hirten, a clinical director at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Germany.

“To our knowledge, this is the first study to evaluate whether resilience, a key mental health feature, can be evaluated from devices such as the Apple Watch.”

“We hope that with this approach we can make psychological assessment and care available to a larger population that may not currently have access,” says Micol Zweig, co-author of the article and associate director of clinical research at the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Health at Mount Sinai. “We also intend to evaluate this technique in other patient populations to further refine the algorithm and improve its applicability.”

Here’s Why Pakistan Will Face Extreme Weather Till October

pakistan weather

Lately, Pakistan has become that one sketchy town where everything bad happens be it natural disasters, aliens, serial killers, spooky stuff, whatever. Recently, the whole country has been facing the consequences of the fight between political parties over power.

Now Pakistan is on a high weather alert according to the Natural Disaster Management Authority. Even, if we’re talking about the weather in Pakistan nowadays, it has been extremely unpredictable with some events taking place that have never occurred before in the past. Let’s look at what NDMA has warned Pakistani citizens about.

Weather Warning

Pakistan has been issued a dire warning by the NDMA to prepare for a series of extreme climate events. These events may include intense heat waves, rapid snow melting, landslides, flash floods, forest fires, and even cyclones. The NDMA’s official letter urges provincial governments to take extraordinary and early precautions in order to weaken the effect of these events between April and October.

Previously too, the floods of 2022 were predicted before time because the annual monsoon rains are expected every year. The floods were heavier than usual because of monsoon rains and melting glaciers that followed a severe heat wave, both of which are linked to climate change. However, despite warnings and predictions the lack of efficient and timely efforts but the authorities led to the nation suffering through one of the worst climactic damages ever.

Region Specific Warnings

To ensure proactive efforts, the NDMA has provided region-specific guidelines to disaster management authorities and stakeholders, urging them to issue impact-based alerts and advisories. The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) have also been tasked with monitoring glacier melt in vulnerable “glacier lake outburst flood” (GLOF) sites and assessing their impact on downstream river flows. They are expected to release monitoring reports on a fortnightly basis.

Sindh, Balochistan, GB, KPK, AJK,

Specifically, the PMD has forecast higher temperatures in northern regions and along the coastal belt from May to July, affecting Sindh, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Additionally, the NDMA has recently also issued a disclaimer following the PMD’s rain-thunderstorm forecast from May 22 to 26. During this period, wind dust, thunderstorms, and rainfall, including possible hailstorms and heavy falls, are expected in various regions of the country.

The affected areas include Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Punjab, and parts of Sindh and Balochistan. Cities such as Islamabad, Lahore, Multan, and Faisalabad are among those likely to experience the impact of these weather events.

Pakistan To Get Its First Air Taxi Service

With all the bad stuff going on in the country, there are a few progressions that Pakistan has been making especially in the province of Sindh. Just last week, the Sindh government decided to introduce new diesel hybrid buses to the already existing lot. This week, it’s the launch of air taxis. Yes! Air taxis are going to be the new means of transportation for people within the next two weeks.

A private company, Sky Wings, in partnership with a foreign investor, has recently revealed this amazing facility in Karachi. The air taxis are set to become operational within the next two weeks, offering their services to the public. Additionally, an agreement has been signed between Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport and the company.

Further Details

Imran Aslam Khan, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Sky Wings Aviation, told that passengers will have the choice of choosing their preferred time and destination using the company’s mobile app, similar to other popular taxi booking applications. He further mentioned that the air taxi service will offer significantly lower fares compared to traditional charter flights. For instance, a trip from Karachi to various cities in Sindh and Balochistan, which typically costs around Rs2.5 million, will be much more affordable with this new service.

Initially, the taxi service will operate with eight aircraft equipped with two to six seats each. However, the company plans to introduce more aircraft in the near future, expanding its aircraft batch to meet the growing demand. Passengers can book the aircraft not only through the dedicated air taxi service app but also through popular transportation apps such as Careem, Uber, and Bykea. Moreover, owners of private jets can also choose to participate in this aerial service.

DA 40 Diamond

Sky Wings Aviation has already expanded its fleet by adding a DA 40 Diamond aircraft manufactured in Germany. This new addition to the fleet has three passenger seats, in addition to the pilot seat, as informed by COO Aslam. Moreover, the German-manufactured aircraft is capable of flying at an impressive speed of 160 knots which is equivalent to approximately 300 kilometers per hour, with just a single refueling.

Khan emphasized that the service aims to cater to a wide range of individuals, including political, religious, and business personalities, as well as professionals like tourists, lawyers, journalists, doctors, and ordinary citizens. The accessibility of aerial taxis will benefit these diverse groups by offering a faster mode of travel. He further emphasized that apart from the convenience factor, this air taxi service has the potential to significantly contribute to the country’s tourism sector, attracting more visitors and boosting tourism overall.

This Firefighting Robot Can Tackle The Most Dangerous Blazes

The first firefighting robot of its kind was introduced in the Middle East by the UAE-based company FFBOTS. It is based in Jebel Ali Industrial Area. Modern technological features and capacities are present in it.

Wabel – The Robot

The robot, called Wabel, which is Arabic for rain, is an important addition to the work of fire departments and firefighters all over the UAE. Due to its ability to increase their safety and support during firefighting operations. Particularly in hazardous, challenging-to-reach areas or when it comes to physically taxing tasks that could endanger their safety.

The robot augments rather than replaces the job of civil defense in fighting fires and defending people and property. Particularly in high-risk circumstances like those involving closeness to oil and gas reservoirs and extremely combustible objects that cannot be approached.

Scientists Invent Electronic Skin That Mimics Our Sense Of Touch

Stanford University researchers have created a ground-breaking electronic skin that gives amputees who use prosthetic limbs a genuine sense of touch, marking a huge advancement in the area of prosthetics. A state-of-the-art skin that simulates nerve impulses that communicate with the brain is equipped with specialized sensors for temperature, pressure, and strain.

Electronic Skin For Prosthetics

Senior author of the study and professor at Stanford University Zhenan Bao told that the next technology might also be used to sense things and feelings while manipulating a robotic limb remotely.

“We’ve been working on a monolithic e-skin for some time,” Professor Bao said. “The hurdle was not so much finding mechanisms to mimic the remarkable sensory abilities of human touch, but bringing them together using only skin-like materials.”

“Much of that challenge came down to advancing the skin-like electronic materials so that they can be incorporated into integrated circuits with sufficient complexity to generate nerve-like pulse trains and low enough operating voltage to be used safely on the human body.” Weichen Wang, a doctoral candidate in Bao’s lab, added.

The team linked the animal’s nervous system to the e-skin, according to New Scientist. The rat’s brain region that controls touch and temperature was then implanted with electrodes. Then the rat’s brain sent messages to the part of the body that governs movement when they applied pressure to the device. The rat’s leg moved when the researchers used an implantable artificial synapse device to send impulses to it.

“You can validate proof of concept into animal models, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be implemented very quickly in humans,” said Stéphanie Lacour, a neuro engineer working on stretchable biomaterials at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.

Connecting Audiences Globally By Expanding Reach And Impact Through Digital Media

Digital Media

The rise of digital media publications has revolutionized the way information is shared and consumed. Platforms like Startup Pakistan provide content creators with opportunities to contribute through various forms of content creation, including articles, blogs, and news stories. These digital platforms, including websites, online magazines, and blogs, offer easy access to information, entertainment, and communication.

One of the key advantages of digital media publications is their convenience. With the ubiquity of smartphones, tablets, and computers, readers can access content anytime and anywhere, eliminating the constraints of traditional print media. This accessibility enables individuals to stay informed and entertained on the go.

Digital media publications strategically advertise businesses, startups, and tech content because their primary audience, the young generation, is highly active in the digital realm, particularly in e-commerce. By targeting this tech-savvy demographic, these publications provide a valuable platform for businesses to connect with their desired audience and tap into the vast potential of the digital market.

Furthermore, digital media publications foster interactivity and engagement. Through features like commenting, social media sharing, and user contributed content, readers actively participate in the content creation process. This feedback loop between creators and readers drives continuous improvement, leading to higher quality content and stronger relationships with the audience.

In addition, digital media publications excel in delivering targeted and personalized content to their audiences. Leveraging data analytics and user profiling, platforms can customize content based on individual preferences, interests, and demographics. This tailored approach ensures that readers receive relevant and engaging content, increasing their satisfaction and engagement. Advertisers also benefit from this personalized approach by effectively reaching their desired audience, resulting in higher conversion rates and improved return on investment (ROI).

Unlike traditional print media, digital publications possess the advantage of instant content publishing and updates. Real time capabilities enable timely reporting of news, events, and developments, allowing readers to stay up to date with the latest information. Digital platforms can provide live streaming, real-time updates, and breaking news notifications, establishing themselves as go-to sources for immediate and accurate information.

Digital media publications have a global reach, leveraging the internet’s connectivity to transcend geographical boundaries. Content creators can connect with audiences beyond their local reach, tapping into diverse cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives. This global reach creates opportunities for new collaborations, economic growth, and the amplification of marginalized voices.

As digital media publications continue to evolve, they will undoubtedly shape the future of information sharing, communication, and community building. These platforms have revolutionized the way we consume news and content, providing a dynamic and inclusive environment for individuals to connect, learn, and engage.

Transport Canada to Audit Security Measures at Pakistan’s Airports

Transport Canada, a well-known security agency from Canada, has recently made an announcement regarding their plans to conduct a comprehensive security audit of the major airports in Pakistan. Now why this decision has been made is completely confusing or it may be completely clear for some other people. This significant step is being taken prior to the commencement of flight operations in Pakistan.

Now the primary objective of this audit is allegedly to thoroughly evaluate and assess the existing security measures that are in place at Pakistan’s international airports. Transport Canada will begin their detailed investigation at Jinnah International Airport, which happens to be the primary aviation hub located in Karachi. This meticulous examination aims to ensure that the highest standards of security are met and maintained, paving the way for safe and secure air travel in Pakistan.

Saudi, UK, and Oman Aviation Audit

In addition to Transport Canada’s involvement, the Saudi Aviation Authority has also scheduled a security audit for the major airports in Pakistan. On June 6, their team will do the audit, further strengthening the dedication to keeping strong security measures in the Pakistani aviation industry.

Furthermore, towards the end of July, Oman’s security agencies are also slated to conduct an extensive audit of the major airports in Pakistan. Moreover, the United Kingdom’s Department for Transport has also expressed its intention to visit Pakistan in October for a comprehensive security audit.

Now the reason behind these audits could be because of the increasing number of imposters from Afghanistan and other neighboring countries trying to enter Pakistan illegally. This has increased the chances of terrorism and other suspicious activities, especially during such high-alert times in Pakistan from a political and economic aspect.

Sindh To Add New Diesel-Hybrid Buses To Its Fleet

Pakistan is one of the most polluted countries in the world. With Lahore being the most polluted city in the world now Karachi is giving some competition to Lahore. In recent months, Karachi has, unfortunately, become more polluted with high levels of air and water pollution. But thankfully, the Sindh government is taking some initiatives to counter this problem. Green initiatives to be precise.

Sindh’s Minister of Information and Transport, Sharjeel Memon, has shown interest and intentions to grow the fleet of the Peoples Bus Service in Karachi.

The Announcement

Now this announcement was made during a ceremony that was originally aimed to introduce a diesel-electric hybrid bus manufactured by Yutong Master Company, Sharjeel Memon then assured foreign investors and the local business community that the Sindh government would fully support them and provide necessary facilities to enhance their capacity and productivity.

At the event, representatives from the local manufacturer presented Minister Memon with the key to a diesel-electric hybrid bus. Sharjeel Memon conveyed the message given by former president Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah that public transport has to be modernized throughout Sindh.

He also disclosed plans for the construction of a dedicated bus depot for the transport department, with additional bus depots to be established in the city as per the requirements of the public transport systems. In a recent tweet, he announced that a new fleet of diesel-electric hybrid buses would soon arrive in Karachi, as the model bus has already been received. “The transport department is introducing new transportation projects for the people of Sindh. Insha’Allah (God willing), PPP’s Sindh government will provide maximum transport facilities,” he added.

This initiative will prove to be great for Karachi, especially during these times when pollution and pollution-provoking activities are at their peak. Hopefully, people will also appreciate this and try to keep pollution at a minimum from their side too.
