Bazaars Buzz with Shoppers as Eid Nears

Bazaars Buzz With Shoppers as Eid Nears

As Eid nears, all the Bazaar streets are clogged with buyers. The influx of customers is so high that the shops are often opened until Sehri just to accommodate everyone. However, not everyone is showing a lot of interest in unstitched clothing due to the high tailoring cost.

Although the Bazaars buzz, very little or sluggish sales are witnessed this time. Traders said that their sales have plummeted even below those of coronavirus-hit days.

Why Are People Returning Empty Handed?

According to many shopkeepers, the shopping activity this Eid season is not the same as before. Why? Well as per the statistics, the slow sales are due to high inflation and the limited purchasing power of the general public. Local traders also attribute the decline in fabric sales to the devaluation of the rupee. This has made imported fabrics more expensive for the general public to buy. With the increasing prices on oil, gas and electricity, all the other commodities are being compromised. This includes garment, shoes, jewelry, cosmetics and everything else festive-based.

Eid is usually the most inclusive holiday celebration in the country during which friends and families get together in their new attire and exchange gifts but the current political turmoil has dampened the festive spirit of Eid.

Tailors Demanding More

The tailors across the city have also increased the rates of stitching of a single suit from Rs1,500 to Rs1,700. This, in addition to the already high inflation cost, has resulted in soaring prices. As a result, more consumers are now opting for ready-made garments over tailored suits. Even those who still prefer unstitched fabric are purchasing in smaller quantities, leading to a decline in foot traffic in traditional fabric markets.

Clearly, the high tailoring price is effecting the locals. They are complaining that an unstitched suit costs them between Rs2,500 and Rs3,000. This in addition to the Rs1,500 stitching charges, brings a total cost of Rs.4,000 – 4,500.

In comparison, the branded ready-made suits are still costing them the same price of Rs4,000 – 5,000 and the non branded ones are even cheaper and range from Rs.2,000 -2,500. Hence, purchasing stitched clothes is much more economical to the general public instead of bearing the high cost of tailoring.

Difference in Prices from the Last Year

Currently, cotton fabric suits in the markets range between Rs2,000 and Rs2,500 in total. On the other hand, wash-and-wear fabrics range from Rs2,000 to Rs3,500, depending on quality. Compared to last year, fabric prices have surged by Rs100-150 per meter, making a standard six-meter suit costlier by Rs600-900.

Sales Increasing Before Chand Raat

In the last days of Ramadan, the best Eid sales are witnessed. However, this time the situation is a lot different. The country is in the midst of a crippling economic crisis and the decade old inflation is influencing customer spending on a mass level.

This time the retail buyers are sparse, and those who are venturing out are  purchasing less than they traditionally would. Will Chand Raat change anything about this? Chances seem low but only Chand Raat will tell this now.

Mohammad Amir Opens Up: The Untold Story Behind His Retirement

will-mohammad-amir-miss-ireland-t20i-series-fakhar-zaman

Mohammad Amir has always been a name that sparks debate in Pakistan cricket. From his sensational debut as a teenage fast-bowling prodigy to his controversial exits from international cricket, his journey has been nothing short of a rollercoaster.

Now, the left-arm pacer has finally broken his silence on why he stepped away from the national team—not once, but twice.

“I Was Deliberately Ignored”

In a recent television interview, Amir recalled how he was left out of Pakistan’s squad for the 2020 New Zealand tour during the COVID-19 pandemic. He claimed that despite 40 players being selected, his name was nowhere to be found.

“Pakistan was going to New Zealand during COVID. Forty players were selected, but my name was not there.”

For a bowler who had proven his worth on the international stage, this omission felt personal. It wasn’t just a selection decision—it was, according to him, a deliberate move to keep him out.

“PSL Was Used to Sideline Me and Malik”

Amir also alleged that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) was strategically used to ensure he and veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik had no chance of making a comeback.

“PSL was about to start, but they announced the team early so that Amir and Malik wouldn’t perform well and they wouldn’t have to take us.”

This accusation raises some serious questions. Did the selectors fear that Amir and Malik would force their way back into the squad with standout performances?

Aiming at Waqar Younis and the 90s Cricketers

Amir didn’t hold back when speaking about the influence of certain former cricketers in his career. He specifically pointed fingers at former head coach Waqar Younis, accusing him of making biased decisions.

“A former cricketer from the 90s tried his best to destroy my career.”

While Amir didn’t name anyone, his words hint at deep-rooted politics in Pakistan cricket, where past grudges sometimes dictate present selections.

A Controversial Career Ends—Again

Mohammad Amir first retired from international cricket in 2020, citing mistreatment from team management. However, he made a surprise comeback ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, only to retire again on December 14, 2024.

His career will always be remembered for what could have been. From his meteoric rise as a teenager to his spot-fixing ban, comebacks, and eventual fallouts with PCB, his story remains one of Pakistan cricket’s most dramatic sagas.

Mohammad Yousuf Reverses Withdrawal From New Zealand Tour

why-did-mohammad-yousuf-resign-as-pakistan-selector-mohammad-yousuf-picks-icc-champions-trophy-2025-favorites

Pakistan’s batting coach, Mohammad Yousuf, has decided to travel with the team for their white-ball series in New Zealand after initially pulling out due to his daughter’s health issues.

Yesterday, reports suggested that Yousuf had withdrawn from the tour, leaving the team without a batting coach. However, after receiving positive news about his daughter’s recovery, he reversed his decision and confirmed his availability.

“Touring with the Pakistan cricket team is a national duty, and I am going to discharge it,” Yousuf stated.

This decision comes as a relief for Pakistan’s struggling batting lineup, which desperately needs guidance ahead of a challenging series against the Black Caps.

A Rollercoaster of Emotions

For any parent, their child’s health comes before everything else. Yousuf’s initial withdrawal was completely understandable, as family always takes priority. However, the improvement in his daughter’s condition gave him the confidence to join the squad.

His dedication to Pakistan cricket is commendable. He could have easily chosen to stay back, but instead, he decided to be with the team in their crucial overseas assignment.

Pakistan’s Tour of New Zealand: A Tough Test Awaits

Pakistan’s squad departed for New Zealand on Wednesday, gearing up for an intense series. The tour includes five T20Is and three ODIs, with matches spread across multiple cities.

Here’s a look at the T20I schedule:

📍 March 16 – 1st T20I (Christchurch)
📍 March 18 – 2nd T20I (Dunedin)
📍 March 21 – 3rd T20I (Auckland)
📍 March 23 – 4th T20I (Mount Maunganui)
📍 March 26 – 5th T20I (Wellington)

Once the T20I series wraps up, the focus will shift to the ODIs.

📍 March 29 – 1st ODI (Napier)
📍 April 2 – 2nd ODI (Hamilton)
📍 April 5 – 3rd ODI (Mount Maunganui)

Why Yousuf’s Presence Matters?

Pakistan’s batting lineup has been inconsistent in recent months, struggling in major tournaments. Mohammad Yousuf, one of Pakistan’s finest batters, brings valuable experience and technical expertise to the table.

With New Zealand’s challenging conditions, Pakistan will need all the help they can get to counter their potent pace attack. Yousuf’s input will be crucial in preparing the batters to handle pace, bounce, and swing.

Shahid Afridi’s Blunt Reality Check: ‘Pakistan Cricket is in the ICU’

shahid-afridi-unhappy-babar-azam-shaheen-afridi

Pakistan’s horrendous Champions Trophy 2025 campaign has left fans heartbroken, and cricket legend Shahid Afridi is not holding back.

The former captain has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), calling out their poor decision-making, lack of consistency, and reactive approach to team management.

In typical Afridi style, he didn’t mince words. Comparing Pakistan cricket to a critically ill patient, he made it clear that the problems run deep.

“All the time we talk about preparations, and when an event comes and we flop, then we talk about surgery. Fact is, Pakistan cricket is in ICU because of incorrect decisions,” Afridi stated.

A Tournament to Forget

Pakistan’s Champions Trophy campaign was a disaster—not a single win, a crushing defeat to India, another loss to New Zealand, and a washed-out game against Bangladesh. This was a performance that exposed everything wrong with the team, from lack of planning to leadership instability.

Afridi’s frustration echoes the sentiments of millions of fans who expected better but were left disappointed.

Shadab Khan’s Surprise Recall: What’s the Logic?

One of Afridi’s biggest concerns was the sudden recall of Shadab Khan to the T20 squad. Shadab, who had been out of favor since the last T20 World Cup, is not only back but has been appointed vice-captain for the upcoming series against New Zealand.

Shahid Afridi was blunt in questioning the move:

“On what basis has he been recalled? What are his performances in domestic cricket or otherwise that he had been picked again?”

It’s a valid point. If there are no clear selection criteria, how can players feel secure or motivated to perform?

Pakistan Cricket’s Never-Ending Leadership Crisis

Shahid Afridi also highlighted the constant changes in Pakistan’s leadership, saying it prevents any real progress. Captains, coaches, and selection committees keep changing, but the results remain the same.

“There is no continuity, no consistency in the board’s decisions and policies. We keep changing captains, coaches, or some players, but in the end, what is the accountability for board officials?”

Read More: From National Hero to Street Vendor: The Tragic Tale of Muhammad Riaz

He’s not wrong. Over the past few years, Pakistan cricket has seen a revolving door of leadership changes. If the system itself is unstable, how can the team perform consistently?

The Blame Game Never Ends

Afridi also slammed the toxic blame culture in Pakistan cricket. After every poor performance, there’s a cycle of finger-pointing between players, coaches, and management.

“It is sad to see coaches blaming players to save their jobs and the management blaming players and coaches to save their seats. How can our cricket progress when there is a sword hanging constantly over the captain and coaches’ heads?”

Despite all his criticism, Afridi did acknowledge that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi wants to improve Pakistan cricket. However, he questioned whether Naqvi even has the time or expertise to run the board effectively.

“He wants to do well for Pakistan, but in the end, he depends on advice. And I told him he can’t continue doing three jobs at a time. He needs to focus on one job because being PCB Chairman is a full-time job.”

This is another crucial issue—can someone who is juggling multiple responsibilities really dedicate enough time to fixing Pakistan cricket?

Soon, online merchants like Onic, Gul Ahmed, Sana Safinaz, J. and KE will also be available with PayFast’s integration with Google Pay and businesses using Safepay’s platform will soon offer customers a faster, more secure, and seamless payment experience with Google Pay.

In addition to storing and accessing payment cards, users can add boarding passes from Batik Air and Thai Airways to Google Wallet. With boarding passes in Google Wallet, travelers will be notified of changes to departure time and gate changes to ensure a hassle-free experience at the airport. Furthermore, they will be able to tap and pay securely using Google Wallet during their overseas travel, without the need for their physical card.

Using Google Wallet is Simple

Your card will then be tokenized and ready for use in Google Wallet.

Adding digital items such as boarding passes to Google Wallet is equally simple. For example, after purchasing a flight ticket from Thai Airways, users will see a button labeled “Add to Google Wallet,” which creates a digital version of the boarding pass in their Google Wallet.

When making a payment, Google Wallet uses an alternate card number (a token) that is device-specific and associated with a dynamic security code that changes with each transaction. Banks also require verification before adding a card to your device, and screen lock protection ensures that only you can access your Wallet.

If your phone is lost or stolen, you can use the Find My Device function to lock it instantly, secure it with a new password, or erase your personal information and payment details.

To provide transparency and control over information management, users can update their settings from the Google Wallet app or on their computer at myactivity.google.com/product/wallet.

Download Google Wallet from the Google Play Store today and enjoy a faster, safer, and more convenient way to pay and store your digital essentials.

Saudi Arabia’s 100-Mile Skyscraper is Turning Into a Disaster

Saudi Arabia's 100-Mile Skyscraper is Turning Into a Disaster

Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Neom Project, which involves the building of a 100-mile-long skyscraper called The Line, is rapidly turning into a financial and management debacle. Reports say that the projected costs have risen to an eye-popping $8.8 trillion, more than 25 times the kingdom’s annual budget.

Financial Manipulation and Skyrocketing Costs

An audit report revealed that some Neom managers manipulated finances to hide rising project costs. These included overcharging prices for its ski resort and charging higher rates for hotel rooms to make the project look more lucrative than it truly is. For instance, a boutique hiking hotel room rate was raised from $489 per night to $1,866, while the rate for a glamping area went up from $216 to $794 per night.

The report further stated that management consulting firm McKinsey, which has collected over $130 million a year from the project, supposedly assisted in covering up these cost manipulations. But the firm did not admit to being involved in any illegal financial reporting.

Construction Challenges and Unrealistic Goals

Initially proposed as a 100-mile-long skyscraper, which would be 1,600 feet tall, The Line project is now being downgraded. The most recent proposal has the goal of finishing only a 1.5-mile section by 2034. Proposals to cut the skyscrapers’ height to approximately 1,000 feet were vehemently rejected by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the prime promoter of Neom.

Amid the setbacks, the previous CEO of the project, Nadhmi al-Nasr stepped down late in 2024 after claims of foreign worker fatalities while building.

Suspect Progress

In spite of extravagant expenditures, such as a $45 million launch celebration where celebrities such as Will Smith and Tom Brady were in attendance, much of the Neom project is still not finished. The Sindalah resort, for example, is not yet accessible to the public even months after its purported opening.

The Future of Neom

Saudi Arabia’s Neom project is turning out to be an expensive venture marked by mismanagement, financial engineering and unrealistic expectations. If it keeps going the way it is headed, the futuristic city could end up being a cautionary tale of overreach and bad planning.

Bayer Foundation Supports Mezrab To Set Up Women-Focused Primary Health Clinics For Karachi’s Under-Served Communities

“Karachi is home to some of the largest urban slums in the world, which lack basic health infrastructure and qualified health providers.

Karachi, Pakistan, March 11, 2025: Bayer Foundation, Bayer’s corporate foundation supporting social innovation, has supported Mezrab, a non-profit organization in Pakistan, with a grant that enables the launch of three primary health clinics in the underserved urban neighborhoods of Karachi. Formally inaugurated on March 11, the Pehli Kiran Family Health Clinics will provide sustainable primary healthcare with a focus on women’s reproductive health.

“Karachi is home to some of the largest urban slums in the world, which lack basic health infrastructure and qualified health providers to cater to the primary health needs of their inhabitants,” said Asma Balal, Director of Mezrab.

According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2022, Pakistan ranks 143 out of 156 countries for health and survival, which translates into severe gender inequalities in access to healthcare.

In particular, women residing in these neighborhoods are at risk of unintended pregnancy due to lack of access to safe contraception. Incidences of gender-based violence are also frequent, due to poverty and a myriad of other social challenges.

“We are very pleased that Bayer Foundation is funding this primary healthcare project with Mezrab,” said Ahmed Ali, Managing Director and CEO of Bayer Pakistan Limited, “There is a tremendous need for developing sustainably funded social business models in Pakistan.”

Khurram Mirza, Country Commercial Lead, Pharmaceutical Division, added, “This project will help address a serious gap in primary and reproductive healthcare access for the most vulnerable women in low-income urban neighborhoods. It also aligns very well with Bayer’s strong overall commitment to women’s health.”

Each of the 3 clinics will be staffed by a small team including a doctor, lady health visitor, and attendant, and will provide primary healthcare including reproductive health, contraceptive access, and identification and referral for victims of gender-based violence.

This initiative therefore addresses the dual challenges of healthcare access and gender inequality by ensuring availability of trained female health providers in under-served urban communities. Patients may also avail a tele-consultation facility at the clinic, and will be able to access prescription medicine as needed.

Supported by Bayer Foundation, the initiative is estimated to achieve sustainability within 18 months of the clinics’ operation, via a sustainable business model realized through blended finance.  The model uses a combination of user fee, grant, and CSR funding for diversified revenue streams.

Operating globally, Bayer Foundation focuses on two strategic pillars: advancing science for societal progress, and driving social entrepreneurship as an enabler for long-lasting change. The grant to Mezrab originates from Bayer Foundation’s Social Innovation Ecosystem Fund which aims to support social business models impacting low-income communities.

iOS 19 Rumours Suggest Huge Redesign on the Way

iOS 19 Rumours Suggest Huge Redesign on the Way

Apple enthusiasts could be in for a shock this year as there are rumours that iOS 19 will have a huge redesign. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman states that this will be the largest redesign since iOS 7 launched in 2013. The design will allegedly take cues from visionOS, the operating system of the Apple Vision Pro headset. This ambitious redo will provide a new look with the intent to remain familiar to older users.

What to Anticipate from iOS 19

The revamp will feature new app icons, menus, windows and system buttons, all displayed in a more harmonious visual language. Apple is striving for a uniform interface design across its platforms, including iPadOS and macOS, which are also anticipated to get similar overhauls. The new design language will likely consist of rounded icons, greater depth, shadows and smooth animations drawn from visionOS.

Besides, new transition effects, better multitasking interfaces and new notification designs are said to be included by iOS 19 in order to increase productivity. It will stress developing a richer and more interactive experience for customers.

Why This Matters

Apple has, for years now, had the same overall visual look it pioneered with iOS 7. These reported updates aim to modernise the user experience and make it more intuitive and aesthetically pleasing. The latest cosmetic improvements are going to become the biggest marketing angle Apple sells when the next iPhone 17 series releases.

However, Apple’s emphasis on visuals may be trying to make up for the absence of grand functional overhauls. Apple Intelligence, including Siri, is not expected to get the degree of update that users have been looking forward to.

The Bigger Picture

This redesign process appears to be part of Apple’s larger plan to unify its different software platforms under a single design language. By making iOS, iPadOS and macOS visually consistent, Apple hopes to build a more cohesive user experience across devices.

While the excitement over the redesign is palpable, it remains to be determined if the new look will do justice. Customers are looking forward to more than mere cosmetic updates, with expectations of real improvement in AI and system functionality by many.

When to Expect iOS 19

The official release date for iOS 19 will most likely occur during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, while the public availability will probably follow in September when the iPhone 17 series releases.

Apple’s attempts to revolutionise its software may be the turning point the user experience needed, but it is unclear whether this redesign will actually be game-changing.

Yamal Becomes Youngest Player to Score and Assist in UCL

Yamal Becomes Youngest Player to Score and Assist in UCL

Lamine Yamal made history in the Champions League on Tuesday, becoming the youngest player to score and assist in a match. The 17-year-old played a key role in Barcelona’s 3-1 victory over Benfica, securing their place in the quarter-finals with a 4-1 aggregate win.

His assist was a moment of brilliance—driving toward the visitors’ box before threading a perfectly weighted pass to Raphinha, who volleyed home. Minutes later, Yamal produced a stunning goal of his own, curling a strike from the edge of the box beyond the goalkeeper into the far corner.

“His goal was spectacular,” Raphinha said. “It shows what Lamine is—he’s a spectacular player with tremendous quality.” Barcelona’s 3-1 victory on the night sealed a 4-1 aggregate win, setting up a quarter-final clash with either Borussia Dortmund or Lille. Manager Hansi Flick praised Yamal’s impact.

“Lamine hadn’t scored for over a month, so he’s happy because it was a very important goal for us,” Flick said. “We are all happy for him—he is a great kid and a fantastic player.”

Former England midfielder Owen Hargreaves compared Yamal’s rise to that of Wayne Rooney, who made his mark as a teenager at Everton. “I’ve never seen a 17-year-old this consistent,” Hargreaves said. “Rooney was out of this world, but this kid is unbelievable. He scores, creates and makes it look incredibly easy—the best 17-year-old I’ve seen.”

Yamal has already played 50 games for Barcelona last season and has made 36 appearances this term. However, former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman cautioned against overuse. “You have to be careful because we saw it with Pedri, Ansu Fati and Gavi, who suffered injuries at a young age,” McManaman said.

“Barcelona know how to develop young players, but avoiding injuries is key. He’s too good to be missing from the football field.”

Jaffar Express Hijacked in Balochistan: What Happened and What’s Next?

Jaffar Express Hijacked in Balochistan

On March 11th 2025, 9 AM, Jaffar Express departed from Quetta to Peshawar carrying 450 passengers in total. At least 100 passengers out of the 450 passengers were military personnel.

What first started as a normal journey soon turned into a nightmare when a separatist group, the Balochistan Liberation Army, attacked the train and took the passengers hostage. The attackers reportedly also detonated explosives in tunnels and on the train tracks before opening fire on the train.

Here is what we currently know about the attack.

Jaffar Express Route Map

How Did the Jaffar Express Get Hijacked?

The train departed from Quetta at 9am (04:00 GMT) on Tuesday morning, embarking on a journey of more than 1,600km (994 miles) through Punjab to reach its final destination in Peshawar. The trip takes roughly 30 hours, with stops at around 30 stations across the country.

According to the officials, the attack occurred around 1pm (08:00 GMT) as the train passed through the Bolan Pass. The attackers blew up part of the railway track when the train was  going in the tunnel. This interception was calculated in such a way, knowing that this is a mountainous region and counter-offensive is much more difficult in this terrain.

After blowing up the track, they seized the train and took all the 450 passengers as hostages. The hostages are reported to be mostly LEA personnel and non-Baloch civilians.

The armed group the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for an attack on a train in southwestern Pakistan.
The armed group the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for an attack on a train in southwestern Pakistan.

Background of Balochistan Liberation Army

The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), is a Baloch ethnonationalist group founded in 2000 and have been involved in insurgencies against the Pakistani government. The claim to seek independence for the ethnic Baloch people, who they think are being stripped off of their basic national rights.

About half the world’s Baloch community resides in Balochistan and it is the largest province. Many Baloch people have experienced torture and enforced disappearances since decades. The people refer to it as the “Baloch Genocide” at the hands of Pakistani army. However, several countries, including the U.S., have declared the BLA a terrorist organisation.

The group has been officially banned in Pakistan since 2006.

Yet, despite the ban BLA attacks have only increased in recent years. Especially after Pakistan leased out Gwadar Port in Balochistan to China as part of its Belt and Road Initiative. China also helped fund a new international airport in Gwadar.

These events enforced the BLA’s believes that the Pakistani government is exploiting rich minerals and using the revenue just to develop other provinces, especially Punjab. The attack from Jaffar Express is also associated with this very conflict.

What do We Currently Know  About the Attack?

As of now, it has been reported that the separatist group demanded that there should be no Military attempt to save the hostages otherwise there will be “severe consequences.” Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has refused to not do a thing. “The beasts who fire on innocent passengers do not deserve any concessions,” Naqvi’s statement read.

Pakistani security forces launched a large-scale counter-operation at the site. They rescued 104 passengers from Jaffar Express including 58 men, 31 women and 15 children. Security personnel eliminated 16 BLA individuals during the operation. while the BLA killed 10 people in total, out of which 9 were military personnels.

Railway officials said mobile connectivity in the remote, rugged terrain is virtually nonexistent, and hence it is difficult to get timely updates of the site. Currently they are still holding women and children as shields still as we speak.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the hostages that were killed and the ones that are still hostages. We also wish speedy recovery to the ones still injured.

Pakistan Ranked as the Third Most Polluted Country in the World

Pakistan Ranked as the Third Most Polluted Country in the World

Pakistan stood at the number three position, as listed in the 2024 World Air Quality Report by Swiss air technology firm IQAir. This is an alarming ranking that points to the acute air quality crisis that the country has been grappling with. Chad held the number one position as the most polluted nation, followed by Bangladesh. Other nations on the list are the Democratic Republic of Congo and India.

Facts and Figures

The study utilised information from more than 7,000 cities globally, comparing air quality with the levels of PM2.5. Pakistan’s average PM2.5 level was 71.5 micrograms per cubic meter in 2024, much higher than the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) suggested threshold of 5 micrograms per cubic meter. Lahore and Karachi are well-known to be among the worst cities with smog and dirty air and contribute significantly to the country’s overall poor air quality.

Pakistan Ranked as the Third Most Polluted Country in the World
Pakistan Ranked as the Third Most Polluted Country in the World

Furthermore, air pollution in Pakistan causes thousands of premature deaths every year, in addition to serious respiratory diseases and other health issues. The economic burden is also enormous, with lost labour and healthcare expenditure outweighing the country’s finances.

Measures Already Taken

Pakistan has accepted the fact that it has a pollution issue, and attempts like the ‘Clean Green Pakistan’ plan have been made to enhance the environment through tree plantation initiatives and promoting awareness. The government has even, on special occasions, enforced short-term solutions like shutting down schools and limiting industrial practices during extreme smog attacks.

Pakistan pollution: Teens fight to save Lahore from toxic air
Source: BBC

A few provincial governments have implemented air quality monitoring systems, but there is weak enforcement. There is still limited access to credible air quality data, which makes it difficult to create effective policies.

Solutions to Combat Pollution

To tackle air pollution, Pakistan must implement immediate and long-term solutions:

Enhancing Public Transport: Creating a more efficient and environmentally friendly public transport system can help lower vehicular emissions by a considerable margin.

Stronger Industrial Regulations: It is imperative to enforce tighter regulations on industries, especially the ones dealing in brick kilns and steel industries.

Encouraging Renewable Energy: Moving from fossil fuels to more environmentally friendly sources of energy like solar and wind power can minimize pollution.

Urban Planning and Parks: Greening urban areas and improving urban planning mechanisms can minimise pollution.

Awareness Campaigns: Raising public awareness on the health implications of air pollution and mobilizing individual action.

The Way Forward

As programmes are underway, the scale and speed of these initiatives are inadequate in light of the scope of the issue. Pakistan needs to reaffirm its commitment to improving air quality through increased enforcement of rules, wider application of clean energy technologies and ongoing measures to track levels of pollution. Cooperation with neighbouring nations with similar issues might also offer a means to more ambitious regional responses.

With pollution still posing a threat to public health and economic security, immediate and concerted action is needed to ensure a cleaner, healthier future for the nation.

Media Report in Mustafa Amir Murder Case Denied

Media Report in Mustafa Amir Murder Case Denied

The murder case of Mustafa Amir has taken a fresh turn. The report circulating on social media and other media platforms has been categorically denied by the University of Karachi’s Industrial Analytical Centre. The Sindh Police allegedly used the Centre Report to bolster their assertion that “no traces of intoxicating, sedative, or poisonous substances were found in the samples taken from Mustafa Amir’s body.”

According to research center sources, the media’s reference to the report is inaccurate. The scientists involved claim that the police-provided biological samples for chemical analysis were so severely burned that no scientific inference could be made from them. Internal organs including the liver and lungs were also scorched as a result of the body’s intense scorching, which precluded any scientific examination.

The scientists at the Industrial Analytical Centre explained that they never published a report claiming that Mustafa Amir was not exposed to any hazardous or intoxicating substances before his murder.

The experts, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also disclosed that the first paragraph of the report makes it quite evident that the organs were totally burned, but the media only reads the second line. A scientific analysis is therefore impossible.
