Militants attacked a police checkpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Karak district during the early hours of Thursday, killing at least three police personnel and injuring six others, according to authorities.
The armed assailant with heavy weapons launched a barrage of fire at the checkpoint in the Bahadurkhel area. The dead were identified as Taimur, Hayat, Naqeeb and Adnan. The four injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Karak. However, three of the wounded were later transferred to Peshawar in critical condition.

In another tragic road accident in Karachi, two members of a family were killed while a female was critically injured after a speeding dumper hit a motorbike in Malir.
According to reports, the accident occurred near Malir Halt, when a dumper ran over the motorcycle, killing the father and son. Rescue workers confirmed that the mother was injured.

A Japan Airlines (JAL) Boeing 787 clipped the tail of a parked Delta Air Lines aircraft while taxiing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at 10:17 a.m., according to airport officials. Both Japan Airlines Flight. 68 and Delta Air Lines Flight 1921 had all passengers safely deplaned, with no injuries reported.

The Australian government has banned DeepSeek AI from all government devices due to security concerns. According to an official order on Tuesday, the Chinese AI program presents “an unacceptable level of security risk”, as stated by Department of Home Affairs Secretary Stephanie Foster.
Foster said, “After considering threat and risk analysis, I have determined that the use of DeepSeek products, applications, and web services poses an unacceptable level of security risk to the Australian Government.” Following this decision, all non-corporate Commonwealth entities must remove DeepSeek from government systems and mobile devices by Wednesday.

The case emanates from a lawsuit filed by Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite, that accused Google of unfairly dominating the Android app market. Epic contends that Google’s control over the Play Store gives it the authority to charge inordinate commission fees of 15% to 30% on in-app purchases, stifling competition and inflating prices for consumers.

The jury ruled in favour of Epic and the decision may oblige Google to open up its Play Store to other players and lower the commission rate. However, Google claims the case was handled improperly and has appealed the judgment.
The Market Definition Dispute
At the heart of Google’s appeal is the argument that the trial judge improperly defined the market. Google’s lawyer, Jessica Ellsworth, argued that the case should have been decided like a previous lawsuit against Apple, where the judge ruled that Apple’s App Store was part of a broader market. She claimed Google never agreed to let the jury decide its case, while the district judge chose not to.
However, appeals judges appeared skeptical of Google’s position. Judge Danielle Forrest noted how Google’s Android environment diverges from Apple’s closed “walled garden” in that the market definitions may even be different. A separate judge, Gabriel Sanchez, said that this constant competition from Google with Apple regarding operating systems does not restrict it to being a monopoly in distributing applications.

What’s at Stake for Google?
If Google is defeated, a lot is at stake. The remedies that the lower court ordered will impact Google adversely:

Google is also on trial for multiple antitrust issues; one of these issues includes the possibility of being forced to sell Chrome browser since Google dominates the search business.
It is yet to announce the timeline of the decision, but the judgment may take months. While Google wants to fight to maintain its hold on Play Store, Epic Games expects that a more open and competitive app marketplace shall do them and many others more than good.

A new door-to-door garbage collection project has been launched in Lahore, aimed at improving sanitation services across the city and surrounding villages. With this initiative, the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) will see its annual budget rise from Rs16 billion to Rs22 billion. The project will provide cleaning and garbage collection services in villages, a service that was previously unavailable.
The government has set a deadline of March 30 for the completion of this service in all 274 union councils of Lahore. A garbage tax will be imposed on residential and commercial properties by the Punjab government once LWMC starts its collection services. The tax will help fund the new system. However, some residents have expressed concerns over the added financial burden amid rising inflation.
The LWMC spends over Rs 16 billion each year on waste management in Lahore city, but villages still lack these services. As part of the provincial government’s Suthra Punjab programme, the new initiative includes garbage collection from homes, cleaning of roadsand waste disposal in rural areas.
Pilot Project and More
Initially, a pilot project has been launched in 20 union councils across nine towns in Lahore, with plans to expand the service to all union councils by March 30. The project will cover about 70% of urban areas and 300 villages.
The Punjab government has approved purchasing machinery and hiring more staff for the project. In the first phase, 2,800 loader rickshaws have been acquired, and 3,810 employees hired, with another 2,932 to be recruited. This will increase LWMC’s total employees to over 18,000, raising its annual expenses to Rs 22 billion.
The LWMC has developed several business plans to help recover the costs, including a plan for garbage tax collection. However, previous attempts to generate revenue through similar plans have not been successful. The government has approved a garbage charge of Rs200 per month for homes in villages and smaller urban houses. Rs400 will be taken from houses ranging from 10 marla to a kanal and Rs300 to Rs700 from shopkeepers.
While many are in favour of the improved sanitation services, residents like Muhammad Rizwan have raised concerns about the additional taxes, given the current economic challenges. Despite the criticism, LWMC CEO Sahib Deen Babar affirmed that door-to-door garbage collection would be fully operational by March 30, with the tax collection to begin once the service is established.

Approximate Pricing and Packages
Although Starlink has not officially confirmed the pricing for Pakistan, estimates based on global trends are as follows:
Residential Package: 50-250 Mbps, PKR 35,000 per month with one-time hardware fee at PKR 110,000.
Business Package: 100-500 Mbps, PKR 95,000 per month, with PKR 220,000 hardware cost.
Mobility Package: 50-250 Mbps, PKR 50,000 per month, with PKR 120,000 hardware cost.
However, these high prices compared to legacy broadband are for users in remote areas where conventional internet services are unreliable or even non-existent.
Despite the excitement, there have been many concerns on data security. Some policymakers make it clear that user data protection is a pressing concern and should be implemented as early as possible to the Personal Data Protection Bill of Pakistan, although such strict encryption at the global operation of Starlink can eliminate certain fears.

Marvel Studios has denied claims that artificial intelligence was used to design the newly released poster for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The poster, revealed alongside the film’s first teaser on Tuesday, shows a crowd of people from the 20th century waving as the Fantastic Four seemingly embark on a mission.
While many fans welcomed the first look, some quickly pointed out unusual details in the artwork. Observers noticed that a few individuals appeared to have only four fingers, while others shared strikingly similar facial features. These inconsistencies fueled speculation on social media that AI had been used in the poster’s creation.
