The City School PAF Chapter Hosts ‘CityTech 2023’ Conference In Karachi

Humanities and technology are combined in educational technology to not only produce novel learning experiences but also to broaden access to contemporary education. Therefore, it is not surprising that EdTech has taken the globe by storm.

Modern computer labs or classroom desk-based computers are now standard in City institutions and all other contemporary institutions. As a result of this significant shift in educational institutions, our students are eager to expand their knowledge and skills and feel fully at home using computer technology.

Hence, it is not surprising that the CityTech2023 conference was a great triumph. In order to discuss how technology is gradually changing education, the conference brought together business leaders, educators, and technologists to focus on the effect of technology on education.

Is the future of EdTech in today’s classrooms, which is constantly growing and, for the developers, financially extremely profitable, really that bright? The majority of conference speakers concurred that the success of the programs is determined by the learning results. The problem is not with technology per se, but with what technology can do. Learning won’t be as effective as it should be, according to keynote speaker Dr. Kevin Martin, Centre Manager of Cambridge University’s “Digital Education Futures Initiative” (DEFI). He made this point by emphasizing the importance of partnerships and dialogue in the learning process and experience.

The current covid crisis internationally made this point very obvious. There were other issues besides a dearth of infrastructure. Learning results will be subpar if engagement and conversation are absent. In order for EdTech to be effective for teachers, Dr. Martin continued by stating that it must be centered on high-quality transformative experiences, that teachers must be involved in the creation of EdTech interventions, and that teacher training must be teacher-centric. EdTech is “a servant, not a master,” said Mr. Rob Jamieson, Head of Partnerships at Pearsons School Qualifications, who was a second keynote speaker. Teachers should be led by their knowledge of the material and not become deterred by lofty promises made by particular programs.

Mr. Khan Kashif Khan, Director of Strategy and Operations at The City School Southern Region, when asked to share his vision and thoughts on EdTech said: “Digital technology has made the entire educational process faster, more efficient, and more interactive than previously. Students are learning faster, staying engaged, and retaining more with well-made virtual lessons and they are enjoying entire individual and group projects so it’s no surprise that students learn faster.”

Like all the other conference speakers, Mr. Khan suggests that schools include technology in their curriculum as a necessary first move. “It’s no longer a matter of choice but a crucial responsibility. The goal must be to prepare students for a world that is continuously changing, and technology is an essential component of that preparation. Without technology, students may not be equipped to handle the demands of the modern world which may leave them irrelevant. Therefore, it is essential to make technology integration a priority and to continuously explore and incorporate new technologies to ensure that students are adequately prepared.”

The City School’s main plan is to create solutions in close cooperation with significant technology partners like Microsoft and Google. The objective is to bring about a significant change in the methods used to offer educational programs. In other words, the conference’s goal was to promote a more comprehensive reform of education rather than to teach new skills.

The City School places a high priority on making sure that all of its faculty and staff are adequately prepared and trained to use technology in the classroom. Technology permeates every part of teaching and learning, not just the ICT curriculum. Therefore, regardless of their topic area, all teachers and staff are exposed to it. Teachers do not need to be ICT specialists because The City School invests in its infrastructure to make technology simple to use. Instead, a supportive setting is offered to make it simple for them to incorporate technology into their instruction.

Mr. Jamieson claimed that we are gradually transitioning from knowledge-based education to computer-based education, quoting Jack Ma.

The 30-year-old Rodrigo Nascimento Ferreira is a well-known mixed martial artist from Brazil who competes in the Heavyweight division of the UFC. The MMA fighter has reportedly converted to Islam, according to sources. The boxer allegedly spent a lot of time learning about and investigating Islam before converting. Many of the boxer’s supporters were shocked and in disbelief when they heard that the UFC fighter had converted to Islam.

Many people praised him once he decided to convert to Islam. He’s getting a lot of attention on Twitter. A picture of him conversing with an Islamic expert is also popular on social media.

In Lahore on March 22, 2023, PepsiCo Pakistan organized an event today to celebrate World Water Day 2023 by sharing that the company is replenishing 100% of the water they use at their Snacks manufacturing facilities in Sundar and Multan watersheds, in line with its global vision to become Net Water Positive by 2030. The company also showcased a unique Water Stewardship Model Community that is being set up in partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature – Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan). The Center of Water Informatics and Technology (WIT) at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) will provide technical expertise for the project while Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) will create policy briefs based on the project learnings to facilitate policymakers.

The event was held at WIT LUMS with an aim to raise awareness about the importance of water and sanitation and to promote sustainable management of water resources through public-private partnerships. A robust overview of various water conservation projects by PepsiCo Pakistan across the country was shared, including partnerships with multiple stakeholders such as the government, non-profit organizations, academia, and policymakers. PepsiCo Pakistan also honored Community Leader Dr. Humera Saleem, who has been a key part of spearheading community mobilization for the PepsiCo Foundation and WaterAid-supported Access to Safe Water program in Humak, Islamabad.

Eugene Willemsen, CEO of PepsiCo Africa, Middle East, and South Asia (AMESA), and Furqan Ahmed Syed, CEO of PepsiCo Pakistan and Afghanistan along with stakeholders from WWF-Pakistan, SDPI, and WIT LUMS unveiled the Water Stewardship Model Community project. The Reality Of How Dirty Hotel Rooms Actually Are

The cleanliness of a hotel room can vary depending on the specific hotel, its standards for housekeeping, and the diligence of its staff. However, most hotels have established procedures for cleaning and sanitizing rooms between guest stays, including changing the bed linens, cleaning the bathroom, vacuuming or sweeping the floors, and wiping down surfaces such as tables, counters, and nightstands.

That being said, it’s important to note that hotel rooms are shared spaces that are used by many people, and they can harbor germs and bacteria despite being properly cleaned and disinfected. Some studies have found that hotel room surfaces, such as TV remotes and light switches, can be particularly high in bacteria.

Dirt & Grime Found In Hotel Rooms

Hotel rooms are high-traffic areas that are frequently touched by multiple guests. As a result, they can harbor germs and bacteria that can lead to illness if not properly disinfected. Even if you have managed to disinfect the buttons and switches, back-and-forth movement inside and outside the rooms can only keep the bacteria at bay for a limited time.

Bathrooms in hotels are another source of bacteria and viruses, especially if they are not properly cleaned and disinfected. Mold, mildew, and soap scum can also accumulate in the shower, sink, and toilet. This can become a breeding ground for bacteria and can often lead to illnesses.

Hotel rooms can accumulate dust and dirt quickly, especially in hard-to-reach areas like under the bed or in corners. This can be exacerbated by poor ventilation or air conditioning systems. Dirty carpets and floors can trap most of the dust causing allergies and respiratory problems.

Bedbugs are another common problem in hotels, and they can easily infest your bedding and luggage. These blood-sucking insects are difficult to detect. Fortunately, bed bug bites are unlikely to give you a transmissible disease, but their bites can cause itching and allergic reactions.

Cleaning Protocols In Time Of COVID-19

Many hotels have implemented enhanced cleaning protocols in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These may include more frequent cleaning of high-touch surfaces, such as door handles, light switches, and remote controls, as well as the use of disinfectants and other cleaning products that are effective against the virus.

In addition, hotels may use specialized cleaning equipment, such as ultraviolet (UV) lights or electrostatic sprayers, to sanitize surfaces and kill germs.

Despite these measures, there is still a risk of germs and bacteria in hotel rooms, just as there is in any public space. It’s important to practice good hygiene habits, such as washing your hands frequently and using hand sanitizer, to reduce your risk of getting sick.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 Leaks Are Floating Around

Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 Leaks Are Floating Around
Source: Beebom

Samsung has been at the forefront of the smartphone industry for years, and the company’s Galaxy series has become synonymous with cutting-edge technology and sleek design. Two of the most highly anticipated upcoming releases from Samsung are the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. While the official release dates for these devices have not been confirmed, there are many rumors and leaks circulating about what we can expect from these new additions to the Galaxy family.

Revolutionizing the “Hinge Mechanism”

One of the most exciting aspects of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is the potential for an improved hinge mechanism. The previous iteration of the Galaxy Z Flip had a hinge that was prone to breaking, so Samsung has reportedly been working to address this issue. Rumors suggest that the new hinge will be more durable and smoother, making it easier to open and close the device. Additionally, there may be an upgrade in the display technology, with a possible switch to a more efficient OLED screen.

Another interesting feature that has been rumored for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is an improved camera system. The previous model had a single camera on the back, which was not as powerful as many users would have liked. The new device is expected to have a dual-camera system, which should provide better quality photos and more versatility when it comes to taking pictures.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5, on the other hand, is expected to be an even more revolutionary device. One of the most talked-about rumors is that the device will feature an under-display camera, which would be a significant advancement in smartphone technology. This would allow the device to have a completely uninterrupted display, without the need for a notch or punch-hole for the front-facing camera.

Upgrading the under display camera

In addition to the under-display camera, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to have several other upgrades. One rumor suggests that the device will feature a larger display, with a possible increase to 8 inches. There may also be improvements to the device’s battery life and processing power, making it even more powerful and efficient than its predecessor.

These are all just rumors and leaks at this point, and we won’t know for sure what Samsung has in store until the official release of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. However, it’s clear that Samsung is working hard to continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with smartphone technology. These devices are sure to be some of the most exciting releases of the year, and we can’t wait to see what Samsung has in store for us.

Pakistan Earthquake: When Will We Stop Making Fun?

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Service, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake that rattled sections of the nation on Tuesday resulted in at least two fatalities and six injuries. The earthquake’s epicenter was in the Hindu Kush region (PMD). According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake shook Afghanistan as well as sections of India, including the nation’s capital New Delhi. Its epicenter was located 40 kilometers south-southeast of the Afghan town of Jurm.

Here have a look at some of the videos showing the aftermath of the quake.

According to a preliminary report from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority, eight homes were partially destroyed in the province, resulting in two fatalities and six injuries from incidents involving roof, wall, and house collapses. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also put out an alert warning for the citizens of the affected areas.  Politicians and public figures also prayed for safety and defense.

However, despite the terrible calamity, some Pakistanis still thought that it would be funny to joke and mock the situation. They failed to understand the depth and seriousness of the situation. Here are some tweets and stories which were apparently supposed to be “funny”.

While some of them found it funny, many also bashed such Twitter users. Have a look.

It truly was saddening to see people take a topic like an earthquake so lightly. People joking about something that is killing others.

What do you think about this? Let us know in the comment below.

TikTok Underlines Its Commitment To Safety With Updated Community Rules

Reiterating their dedication to safety, TikTok released updated Community Rules in Pakistan on the 22nd of March. The community guidelines for TikTok are the requirements for participating in the community and they apply to everyone and everything on the platform. The platform is also presenting TikTok’s Community Values as part of this release.

The Community Principles will make it easier for users and the larger community to comprehend the choices made on how the platform operates to maintain TikTok as a secure environment for users. These guidelines are in accordance with international legal frameworks and are based on TikTok’s commitment to upholding human rights. The platform strives to be fair in its activities, protects human dignity, and strikes a balance between freedom of expression and preventing harm.

The platform consulted with more than 100 organizations globally, including the International Association for Suicide Prevention, and regionally with the Safety Advisory Council and SMEX in addition to members of their community to inform the most thorough updates to TikTok’s Community Guidelines to date. Their suggestions helped TikTok tighten its policies and address fresh dangers and threats. Some of the key changes are:

• TikTok is developing its policies regarding how it handles synthetic media, which is content produced or altered by AI.

• In its policies against hate speech and other discriminatory behavior, TikTok has added “tribe” as a protected attribute.

  • The platform will provide more detail about their work to protect civic and election integrity, including their approach to government, politicians, and political party accounts.

On April 21, TikTok will implement its new Community Guidelines, and in the months that follow, the platform will give its moderators more training to help them properly enforce the new policies when they go into effect.

TikTok has centralized all of its rules and standards information so that everyone, from creators to academics, can get what they need by taking into consideration prior input. Now, laws and regulations are categorized thematically into many subject areas, such as behavioral and mental health. TikTok gives a quick explanation of what is and isn’t permitted for each topic, followed by more information, such as definitions and a list of potential consequences if the terms are broken.

1. Remove violative content.

2. Age-restrict mature content so that only adults may watch it (18 years or older). The TikTok Community Rules must still be followed by the content, nevertheless.

3. Remove content that is inappropriate for a broad audience from the For You stream.

4. Provide the TikTok community with informational tools and resources so they may maintain control over their experience.

The platform’s enforcement strategy is also expanded upon in today’s update to the TikTok Community Guidelines, which

• Shares more details about the actions it takes against accounts that break its rules after updating earlier this year.

• Specifies that it does not permit the use of multiple accounts to knowingly circumvent its rules or its enforcement

• Describes the factors it takes into account when doing so.

• Providing more information regarding the informational labels, cautions, and opt-in screens TikTok utilizes.

TikTok is providing their community with more openness about their regulations and how they’re enforced through the revision of their Community Guidelines. It takes a village to keep people safe online, and TikTok is appreciative of everyone who has contributed to the platform’s community as well as to all of the outside experts who continue to aid TikTok in advancing its standards and staying ahead of new threats.

According to TikTok, everyone should feel secure when using the internet because that is the key to fostering creativity and imagination. TikTok keeps investing in its efforts to maintain the platform as a secure, welcoming, and genuine home for the international community so that people can create, discover, and connect.

GPT-4 Is Helping People Generate Profitable Business Models – Here’s How!

ChatGPT-3 is a large natural language processing model developed by OpenAI, the latest version of their “Generative Pre-trained Transformer” (GPT) series. It has over 175 billion parameters, making it one of the largest and most powerful language models currently available. As if ChatGPT 3 hadn’t caused enough global hype, GPT4 is now on the way. Because of the popularity and extensive use of earlier GPT models, it is likely that ChatGPT-4 will spark a great deal of curiosity and anticipation for the breakthroughs in natural language processing it may bring.

Recently, a Twitter user requested that GPT-4 assist him in earning “as much money as possible.” The AI-assisted him in creating a business plan and turning a profit. Jackson Fall, the founder of Circus Dot Fish, is one of those who put it to the test. Jackson Fall gave GPT-4 a $100 (about Rs. 8000) budget and a set of guidelines.

He instructed the robot to generate the most money out of the $100. Also, he told the bot to avoid suggesting any ideas that would require human labor or would be prohibited. The AI then instructed Fall to create an “affiliate marketing site generating material around eco-friendly or sustainable living products,” according to his instructions. A logo was even created by the AI. Here have a look.

The website went live after everything was put up, including the advertising budget. Here have a look at the tweets from Fall.

Fall stated that the website had $163.84 in cash as of day one (approximately. 8200.) A breakdown of his earnings was also provided.

Fall then also provided those who were interested with day-to-day updates.

The adventure isn’t over yet! After the website was operational, GPT-4 even provided Fall with a performance evaluation.

These tweets were shared just two days ago. Since being posted, it has been viewed over 17 million times. Many were fazed at the whole incident.

EBM Emphasises The Value Of Females Education

In Karachi on 21st March 2023, in Pakistan’s basic and secondary schools, there are about 70% female teachers. To reach the aim of universal primary education by 2030, Pakistan must boost the growth rate of primary school teachers by 50%, according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

This incredibly moving film honoring the wonderful female teachers who toil relentlessly to improve Pakistan’s future was released by EBM on International Women’s Day. The movie emphasized the enormous influence of these professors, who not only transfer knowledge to their pupils but also build values, ethics, and character in them. Teachers are the backbone of society and aid in determining the future of the country because of their nurturing and loving character. The movie provided a potent reminder that we must continue to promote and celebrate women since educating them affects entire generations.

To its credit, EBM is making every effort to give boys and girls equal chances, and as a matter of policy, it only supports institutions where boys and girls are equally represented. In partnership with the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and the Rashid Memorial Welfare Organization project (RMWO), EBM has established two school campuses for boys and girls in Swabi, which will start operating in August 2023. Moreover, EBM helps GCT’s network of schools, which serves 29,000 kids in 160+ distant sites throughout rural and urban Sindh. They have also contributed to the adoption of The Citizen Foundation (TCF) schools and the TCF Agahi Adult Literacy Program, which aims to teach the families of TCF students the fundamentals of literacy and numeracy. Other partnerships for upcoming teacher training programs are also being developed by EBM.

Dr. Zeelaf Munir, Managing Director & CEO of EBM, said, “The future of our country is linked to the future of women. By educating a woman, you are educating an entire generation. We, at EBM, believe that we will be able to make a true difference in the lives of millions only when we start educating our girls.”
