Braving The Odds

The news of arrival of first child in family is a celebrated event. In anticipation the first thing that an expectant mother does is anybody’s guess…yes, shopping! This is what Rafia Zahid set out to do for her first child. She looked for clothes that would be comfortable as well as trendy for her first child to be, but she was rather disappointed. She observed that most of the available garments and products for newborn were imported. And they did not necessarily catered to the need of the children as would a local brand in a certain price range. She thought of turning this disappointment into an opportunity, and found out a solution. She would make children’s garments with all things local, all made in Pakistan. This is how the idea of Tippitoes came into being.

She shared her idea with her husband, Zahid Farrukh, and took him on board as a cofounder. In 2016 they launched Tippitoes with a single retail store; after all the work that goes into setting up a brand new business, from market research to procuring raw material. Tippitoes is basically a mother’s idea of comfortable and practical apparel for new born to 6 year old children. Rafia Zahid, Co-Founder of Tippitoes, declares her venture as “a brand for the parents by the parents”. We can safely say that Tippitoes is a mother’s gift to children across Pakistan.

With business established, Rafia runs the show while Zahid supports her in managing accounts and procuring materials. Zahid Farrukh offers his unwavering support to his wife and is of the opinion that women entrepreneurs are more dedicated and loyal as business counterparts. He advocates women’s active participation in the economy and believes that there should be opportunities, platforms, and financial support to encourage women to step in the world of entrepreneurship.

Five years down the road with 14 outlets and 70 employees, they are still going strong. Growth in their business is evident from these numbers. With business growing rapidly, they needed capital to keep things going at this pace and also implement their growth plans. As all of us in Pakistan do, friends and family are the first to be reached out for loans as a matter of convenience. Rafia recalls that they had already exhausted that option and at this stage loan from the family could never have been sufficient. To raise the capital they visited different financial institutions. They were taken aback when they read the terms and conditions put in place for business like theirs by these financial institutions.

When they were just about to lose all hope, Rafia came across Karandaaz on a social media platform. Informing Zahid about her finding, together they explored different initiatives by Karandaaz. One being Women Ventures is an initiative, which is specifically designed to encourage women entrepreneurs to grow their business with easy access to capital and business support. They were happily surprised to see a financial offer specially carved out for women entrepreneurs, that too by a financial institution in Pakistan. Besides the provision of capital, it offers women-led businesses customized business development support, training, and capacity-building sessions.

They considered themselves fortunate to have come across Women Ventures just at the right time. They applied and Karandaaz led Tippitoes to a journey of exploring new horizons of business expansion. Its financial management assistance was an added advantage along with the provision of capital.

Talking about challenges women entrepreneurs have to face in Pakistan, Rafia says it is not easy to work in a predominantly male sector. She thinks that “Men in Pakistan are not ready to see women in the driving seat and are reluctant to work under the supervision of a woman. But this will change with more working women around, men in society will get accustomed to working for and with women.” To give women more opportunities to work Rafia prioritizes hiring women in her workforce and is very supportive, as being a woman entrepreneur she is well aware of the challenges working women face. She makes sure that women, depending on their potential, have enough representation in her workforce. She is glad to be in a position where she can enable other women to be financially independent and be an active participant in the country’s economy.

Covid-19 changed the dynamics of businesses all over the world. The retail business was particularly hit hard and Tippitoes was not an exception. With all stores closed as per the measures of the government to control the spread of Covid-19, Tippitoes assessed the challenges posed by the pandemic and redesigned their business model, with a focus on collaborations for online businesses. Closing down physical stores paved the way for the trend in online shopping. Tippitoes rising to the occasion, who had already made adjustments in its business model, we’re ready to provide online services to the customers.  In the meanwhile, despite the economic uncertainty they did not layoff any of their employees and facilitated them however they could. She agrees that it is not at all a bed of roses when you decide to work, there are challenges and difficulties of all sorts but women should not lose heart and keep striving for their goals. Meanwhile, the brand representative took notice of the complaint and made sure to clear the air about the situation. In their defence, the company allows people to create and sell their designs. While the majority goes through a process of scrutiny, this one was missed and will be taken care of.

The party being portrayed as a ‘homosexuality’ event has raised a serious concern.

It only takes a couple of house-hold ingredients and five steps to get the job done without having to rely on anyone else.

Step 1- Gather Material and Supplies

You’ll need a couple of materials and supplies before you can take that tint off. You’ll need the following if you want to use soap:

  • Dish soap
  • Glass cleaner
  • Spray bottle
  • Paper towels or rags
  • Razor knife or a blade
  • Water

You can also opt for the newspaper technique. For that, you’ll need everything mentioned except the spray bottle. You’ll also need the following:

  • Bucket or bowl
  • Newspaper
  • Sponge

The hairdryer method will need:

  • Hairdryer
  • Glass cleaner

Soap and Scrape Method

The first step is to lift the corner film using a razor or blade gently. Once the corner has started to peel away from the surface, continue the process but be careful not to rip the strip as you will need to again peel from the corner.

Soap and Newspaper Method

You’ll need to make a soapy solution. It’s up to you whether you want the answer to be thick or thin. You need to spray the solution on to the tint film and cover it with newspaper. Keep that on for about an hour.

Keep checking on it every 15-20 minutes to make it hasn’t dried up. If it has, soak it again. After the time is completed, peel the newspaper using the blade. If there’s more film on the surface, repeat the process.

Hairdryer Technique

Set to the highest setting and direct the airflow towards the corner of the tint film. Be sure to keep at least a 2-in of space between the dryer and the film. Once the film curls and starts to peel, use the dryer to do the rest as you take it off.

Step 4- Remove Adhesive Residue from the Window

Removing tint leaves some adhesive residue on the window. There are many ways which you can use to remove.

  • Use the soapy water solution on those areas and carefully scrape the adhesive using the blade.
  • If you are using a hairdryer, reapply heat over those areas and wipe it off using a paper towel.
  • You can purchase and use locally available adhesive remover or glass cleaner.

Step 5- Touchup

State Bank Of Pakistan Launches Roshan Digital Accounts (RDA) Anthem To Pay Tribute Non-Resident Pakistanis

Karachi: 24 March, 2022 – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has released a special anthem, ‘Tum Juray ho to Barha hai Pakistan’ on Pakistan Day, to celebrate the tremendous contributions of overseas Pakistanis to Roshan Digital Accounts (RDA), which resulted in the success of innovative banking solutions and the socio-economic growth of the nation.

The anthem featuring stars Shehzad Roy, Hadiqa Kiyani, and Faisal Kapadia, highlights ‘Roshan Digital Account’ an initiative of SBP, which is inspiring millions of overseas Pakistanis to make resourceful contributions to their beloved homeland.

RDA, in collaboration with reputed commercial banks, is an exclusive offer for the Non-Resident Pakistanis (NRP) and holders of Pakistan Origin Cards (POC) to promise unmatched convenience for overseas remittances and investment opportunities.

Since its launch in September 2020 till February 2022, RDA has received funds amounting to more than 3,632 million US Dollars in Pakistan, through 365,182 accounts opened by Pakistanis living in 175 countries. This initiative is in sync with SBP’s vision to provide lucrative opportunities for attracting foreign investments in shares and units of funds, in the Pakistan Stock Market. The ‘Roshan Apni Car’ facility also enables the Non-Resident Pakistanis to purchase any car of their choice, at attractive prices, and gift it to their loved ones living in Pakistan. While the ‘Roshan Apna Ghar’ scheme brings lucrative opportunities for the overseas Pakistanis, enabling them to invest in Pakistan’s property markets, including both; commercial and residential real estate.

Moreover, according to the report, the monthly charge so far isn’t the price of the device divided by 12 or 24 months. It is going to be something else because this offer is somewhat still there.

Lame’s content largely involves him staging silent reactions to other users’ posts. While he focus on mocking “life-hack” or how-to videos that he deems counterintuitive.

Lame is the fastest-growing global account on TikTok, according to Pepsi, and the most-followed male creator on the platform.

Burger King very recently announced that it will be bringing desserts that will be 100% free of artificial ingredients. However, they can’t just go ahead and promote it like that— it wouldn’t be disgusting enough for their brand. So, what they’re doing is that they’re introducing the ‘poopy ice cream’ to you which is the chocolate ice cream of course. This is giving us flashbacks of the Moldy Whopper days and trust us, you wouldn’t want to go back.

One would question: if you want your customers to eat something, why make them nauseous with it first? The answer is that with April Fool’s day coming around the corner, this campaign can get a good twist. The fast-food chain wants people to know that their food is completely free of artificial ingredients in a fun way.

The agency of Burger King that handles this suggested that the purpose was to do the very same as they did with Moldy Whopper. It is essentially creating a powerful visual to make people think about their food. What are people themselves consuming and is it the same or worse than Burger King’s.

This launch is a part of Burger King’s promise to remove 100% of all artificial ingredients from its food by 2025.

The marketing director added that they wanted to use humor to show that no matter what Burger King’s food looks like, it is still the cleanest.
