Eat Food Festival Or “Fiasco” Festival?

Every year, the people of Karachi look forward to the biggest food festival of the year. Eat’23 took place in Karachi Beach View Park on 6th, 7th and 8th January 2023. People from all over the country came to the festival to have a good time; setting a new record for the highest people turnover at Eat in the last 10 years.

The festival was supposed to be safe and secure along with being fun for everyone. However, things took a bitter turn. With the entrance fee being only Rs.600, the first day, thousands of people showed up. Security was extremely alert at the entrance and exit. The management made sure the “no stags allowed” rule was strictly followed. But, unfortunately, once the visitors had entered the premises, there was no security to maintain control. The first and second day went smoothly, but the third day of Eat has caused an uproar on social media because of the incidents that took place.

Because the number of people increased unexpectedly, the “stags” were somehow able to get inside. They broke the gates and forcefully barged in when stopped by the bouncers. After that, women at the event were treated inappropriately by the men that entered by force which later led to brawls between them and the men with families.

The situation escalated quickly with all sorts of people entering forcefully. Families and groups had no other choice but to escape the park as soon as they could. The management of Eat took immediate action and cancelled all performances there and then. They got the live artists and people to safety as fast as they could.

Who Is To Really Blame?

Soon, the management of Eat started to get extreme backlash from netizens. But is the management of Eat the only ones to be blamed? Pakistan as a nation has time and again shown that maybe they do not “deserve” such events. Previously, such incidents have occurred at other events like concerts of Talha Anjum, Natasha Baig, Atif Aslam and many other artists. Despite the security being extremely well trained and well equipped, the crowd present has misbehaved. So, cases like these make one adamant to believe that maybe there are groups of individuals that will always show a lack of decency and common sense when attending such events no matter the management.

Response From The Eat Management

Even after getting immense hate from the public, the management of Eat came out with an apology. Here is what Omar Omari, CEO Eat Food Pakistan had to say,

“The Eat Festival came to life 10 years ago with the aim of bringing diverse good food, the citizens of Karachi and music all together under one roof. Over the years, we have taken the brand to Lahore and Islamabad with the same aim in mind. Despite our most stringent efforts, the closing day of our 10th Eat Festival saw unruly crowd behavior and some very unfortunate and sad incidents occurred. This vengeful disregard for rules and regulations gave rise to events that caused much discomfort to innocent people as gate crashers ran amuck. The crowd at the venue on Sunday was less in absolute numbers than on Saturday but because there were no unruly gate crashers, the first two days ended on a civilized note. Regardless, we are collecting the data and conducting a deeper investigation into the
matter of surveillance, breach of boundary walls and the need to up the restrictions of what is brought into the arena. Our thoughts and sincere apologies for all who were affected by the unruly crowd and the innocent people who were caught in the crossfire.”

Here’s Why Everyone Is Doing The “Moisture Sandwich” Trend On TikTok

Every other day, viewers on TikTok are going crazy following several new trends. Female viewers mostly make videos as soon as a new skincare trend is launched. This time it’s the “moisture sandwich” trend. After “slugging” and “skin cycling”, this new trend is helping people achieve the glass skin look. Skincare trends like these are heavily inspired by Korean beauty standards where women have crystal clear, poreless, translucent, and luminous skin that imitates a glass-like look because of all the shine.

Image Source : The DIY Hustle

The moisture sandwich trend basically requires one to layer all their skin care products one after the other. The process of applying products on top of damp skin ensures your skin stays hydrated. It is seen that this trend works best for people with dry skin, especially in the winter season. Influencers have also been promoting their skincare routine while showing how to the moisture sandwich routine.

How It Is Actually Done

According to dermatologists and beauty influencers, this is how it is supposed to be done :

  1. After washing your face, dry just enough to leave the skin a little damp.
  2. Follow up with a hydrating toner, essence, or mist and let it sit so it penetrates deep intp the skin.
  3. Next, begin applying your lighter serum, continuing to spray a hydrating mist between each step until you reach your final product. So basically, the order is mist, serum, mist, the next serum and then finally moisturizer.
  4. An optional step is to seal all the products with a thick barrier of Vaseline or any balm, though this is not recommended for those with acne-prone or oily skin types.

Why It May Not Be Suitable For Everyone

This trend is seemingly doing well for everyone on TikTok however, dermatologists have reacted and said that this may not be the best skin care hack for every skin type. They caution against this if you have acne-prone skin or tend to sweat a lot. The nightly application of a thicker ointment can be too occlusive and cause breakouts when excess sweat or oils get trapped. It’s also important to pay attention to how this feels against your skin. If you don’t like the feel or consistency of a thicker ointment, it may not be the best option.

Anyhow, like other viral skincare trends, this has also taken over TikTok overnight. And we don’t think that influencers are getting over this anytime soon.

Wednesday Season 2: Release Date, Cast and More

Netflix has finally picked up Wednesday for a second season after its record-breaking debut. Here is all the information you need to know about Wednesday season 2, including the cast, possible release date, and more.

Wednesday, a The Addams Family spinoff, received a second season renewal from Netflix on January 6, 2023. Fans have eagerly anticipated this since Wednesday’s season 1’s original release on November 23, 2022. The recent rumors that Wednesday would be replaced by Amazon Prime Video made the news from Netflix even more thrilling for consumers.

Source: Whats on Netflix

Creators confirm season 2

Netflix revealed the second season and provided a teaser as part of the announcement. But other than talking about how Jenna Ortega’s character, Wednesday Addams, has been “mimicked millions of times across the internet,” it doesn’t reveal anything about the second season’s comeback.

Thanks to everyone who made the forthcoming season possible, Jenna Ortega said in response to the news. She remarks, “This has been quite bizarre.

“So there you have it!!!!” Catherine Zeta-Jones, who portrays Wednesday’s mother Morticia, said in response to the news on Instagram. The greatest news!

Season 2 release date

We do not yet know the release date for Wednesday season 2 because the Netflix trailer left many unanswered. Since there is currently no information on when season two’s production will begin, no assumptions can be made about when it could be released.

Rumors about season 2 being aired on Amazon

Days before to Netflix’s announcement, rumors started to spread that Amazon Prime Video, a competitor, would be taking over season 2. This is as a result of its merger with the company that created the show, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). Fortunately, Amazon has affirmed that the MGM-Amazon combination won’t have an impact on the availability of projects on other platforms, dispelling these fears among worried fans.

Wednesday cast members

We anticipate the following characters to reprise their roles from season 1 as Wednesday plunges headfirst into a new season.

Jenna Ortega plays Wednesday Addams in the Tim Burton-directed television series, which also features the actors mentioned below.

  • Riki Lindhome as Dr. Valeria Kinbott
  • Jamie McShane as Sheriff Donovan Galpin
  • Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin
  • Percy Hynes White as Xavier Thorpe
  • Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair
  • Moosa Mostafa as Eugene Otinger
  • Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay
  • Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolus
  • Naomi J. Ogawa as Yoko Tanaka
  • Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams

What to expect from season 2

Fans were on the edge of their seats as the first season came to a close on a cliffhanger with the debut of Wednesday’s “very first stalker.” Due to her distaste for social media, the programme has made it known that Wednesday has little internet presence. She got the texts on a phone that Xavier gave her. It’s strange how quickly a stalker was able to send her the threatening texts.

However, it is not surprising that the character has drawn a lot of attention from people around her given her remarkable temperament.

Who can be the new principle of the Nevermore Academy

Given that Morticia Addams is a former pupil and a Nightshade, it is quite likely that she will be chosen to lead the school now that the current principal has resigned.

If that happens, we can anticipate Wednesday’s response to be a fairly amusing and ultimately unsuccessful attempt to get her mother fired from her position as principal. Morticia Addams will probably start appearing regularly in the series if she wins the election for principal.

Were you guys nervous about releasing a movie after five years now that so much has changed?”

While answering the question Syra mentioned,

“What helps us in maintaining a good equation is that we are parents to a child and that has helped us to maintain that equation in a very healthy manner. When we prioritize something, when we prioritize a human being especially when it’s a child then you realize that your problems are petty compared to that individual. Partnership On Supporting Childhood Growth Through Good Nutrition Takes Flight

Abbott and Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) teamed up to educate on how good nutrition can support childhood growth and bring awareness to the issues of malnutrition and stunting. Passengers on PIA domestic flights will receive materials on how to recognize and address picky eating behavior and ideas to engage kids in the kitchen, In addition, board games, coloring books and puzzles will be provided to keep children entertained on board.

Kids need nutritious foods for healthy growth and development, especially during early, formative years of their lives. When kids are picky eaters for long periods of time, they may not be able to get complete and balanced nutrition through regular diet, and this can lead to serious health issues like malnutrition, immune deficiencies, diminished bone health, stunting and decreased muscle mass, which can have lifelong consequences from poor health outcomes.

Growth issues in the first five years may challenge a child’s development and limit future potential, as approximately 60% of adult height is achieved by the age of five.  Making sure children get the right nutrition for proper growth and development should be a high priority for parents and caregivers so that all children can grow and live to their fullest potential.

”We are very happy to partner with our national carrier, PIA, on this initiative and bring awareness to the importance of proper nutrition for childhood growth,” said Asim Shafiq, general manager of Abbott’s nutrition business in Pakistan and Iraq. ”Through PediaSure, Abbott has been playing a pivotal role in providing children in Pakistan with a science-based milk supplement that will help address nutrition gaps and foster healthy growth.”

”Being the national air carrier, PIA believes it has an important role to play in protecting and nurturing the future of our country,” said Vice-Marshall Amir Hayat, Chief Executive Officer of PIA. ”We have therefore decided to partner with global healthcare leader Abbott.”

The Future Is Here: BMW Unveils Its Color-Changing Car

During the automaker’s keynote address at CES on Wednesday night, BMW unveiled a working prototype of the I Vision Dee concept vehicle. In order to demonstrate Dee’s E-Ink technology, which will enable car owners to customize the exterior of their vehicle with 32 distinct colors, the four-door sedan first appeared on stage in a bright white hue.

Despite being a concept car, Dee serves as a representation of BMW’s upcoming Neue Klasse platform, which the firm announced will debut in 2025 with a dynamic sedan and a sporty activity vehicle as its first two models.

The reveal

Arnold Schwarzenegger made a cutesy video for the unveiling in which he reflected on the bond individuals had with their vehicles in the 1980s. The voice of Dee, which stands for Digital Emotional Experience, then attempted to persuade the actor/politician that future automobiles are indeed best friends.

The concept behind it

Dee’s voice helped to individualize and humanize the automobile throughout the presentation. BMW once claimed that Dee had a digital soul, a personality that includes both facial emotions and a voice. The following line from the movie “The Terminator” truly drove home this point: “The unknowable future rolls toward us. I approach it with optimism for the first time because, if a machine like a Terminator can comprehend the worth of human life, perhaps humans can as well.

Since the “software-defined vehicle” trend started to gain traction, manufacturers have been looking for novel ways to employ this software to give drivers and passengers a more customized experience. A wide variety of samples are constantly available at CES. This year looks to be all about in-car gaming, as opposed to last year when it was all about Google Home integrations and Amazon Fire streaming coming to cars. BMW, however, is taking it a step further by proposing that there is not just an emotional bond between a person and their automobile, but also a car with its own feelings.

Color-Changing BMW i Vision Dee At CES 2023 Has Up To 32 Colors
Source: Motor1.com

Software and hardware advancements for a complete Omni channel experience is one way BMW intends to make that vision a reality, according to Zipse. This concept is shown by Dee’s head-up display, which has four levels of interactivity and is referred to by BMW as its “mixed reality slider.”

The depth behind the vision

All the necessary driving and navigational information are provided at level one. Level 2 facilitates communication by displaying texts and calls. The elements of Levels one and two are combined in Level three, which also highlights potential obstructions and adds collision alerts to the navigation data displayed on your windscreen. Social media is also visualized and level four “far beyond reality,” What does that imply in reality? We’re not really sure, but the talking Dee said that you could practically pack up your entire social group and drive away.

But the point is that automakers like BMW are attempting to equip their cars with so much dazzling, seamless technology that consumers begin to view them as their ideal companions—friends, living rooms, personal assistants, and fashion accessories all in one. How bizarre is that?

10 Things From the 90s That Millennials Are Missing Out On!

old pakistani snacks

Good times come and go.

All that’s left behind are memories.

As our life has become easier with the passage of time, there’s a lot the ‘Millennials’ are missing out on and we, the ‘centennials’, are lucky enough to enjoy them.

So let’s get all nostalgic and have a look at a few things that belong to the ‘Good Old Days’.

1. iPhone of the 90s

Nokia 6110 was the iPhone of the 90s. Owned by our parents, this weighty gadget with a huge antenna on its head was the dream phone for all kids.

2. Classic Consoles

999 in 1 games, NES, Arcade games by Atari were the tablets of the Golden Era, these consoles were the most “advanced” gadgets of that time.

Related image

The “cool kids” used to flaunt these devices to gain popularity. Now, the bulky consoles have shrunk into handheld devices.

3. Roadside Games

Be it of any age, all boys used to gather on the street to play cricket in the evening. Marking the crease on the ground with chalk, huge rocks were the wickets, and “kisi ghar ki chatt pay gai to out” were some of the most common features of that era.

Girls from the same neighborhood played games such as ‘baraf paani’, ‘lattu’, ‘hopscotch’ and ‘pittu’ amongst others.

4. Our Own Laboratory

No light at home? No problem! You can have fun while playing with water bubbles. Blending soap with water is all you have to do but this had to be done in a very careful manner.

We can’t forget the feeling it gave us! Just like some scientists at work. One extra drop and boom! Your mixture is ruined!

5. Multi-Player Games

Unlike nowadays, the games of Generation Z were more competitive and challenging. ‘Pinball’, ‘Need for Speed 2000’ and ‘Angelina Jolie’s action feature game Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’ are things we all dearly miss.

Image result for windows pinball

We were the luckiest generation who played poker without any fear of losing money. Collecting cards and trading them was very serious business.

Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, and Monopoly have ruined more friendships than any other thing.

6. TV Shows

This generation is unaware of ‘Kamolika’! They don’t know who Tulsi was! God! The horror! We had to wait for Fridays to watch our favourite dramas like Shaka Laka Boom Boom, Shararat and Karishma Ka Karishma. Don’t you feel old? Yep. We know that feeling!

They don’t know how much we wanted to have that “Hannah Montana life”. They can’t imagine how much we wanted to be a part of the “Wizards of Waverly Place” family.

Kids today won’t understand our hatred for Mojo Jojo, and our fear of King Ramses’ mummy from Courage the Cowardly Dog.

7. Socializing

We had no Facebook, no Snapchat, no Instagram, and no Twitter! MSN was our Facebook, huge photo albums and frames were our Instagram, and balconies were Twitter. Not only the kids, but aunties were also great Twitteratis.

Image result for aunties gossip gif

8. Food

Do you miss Dino Munchies? Super Crisps? Chocki? Spacer Toffee? Mr Bear chocolate? Polka ice cream? We surely do. Good old days!

9. Cassettes, Walkman, and Floppies

Remember if you ever had to manually rewind cassettes? We did not need to go to the gym to get toned biceps and triceps. We had cassettes. The struggle was real!

Walkmans were the iPods of that era. Floppies were our USBs and how careful we were of not losing our data by even keeping it in our pockets as it would damage the floppy disk.

10. Kewl Email Id’s

We are all guilty of it! pwincess.mahi@hotmail.com, k3wl_ali@yahoo.com, stylish.john@hotmail.com, 2cool4u@hotmail.com, and what not! You had one too. How “kewl” we were, no?

Do you feel nostalgic? Do you miss these things? We surely do and we really wish that this new generation gets to enjoy and cherish the things that we once did.

How Can Public Transportation Help Traffic Congestion In Karachi?

How Can Public Transportation Help Traffic Congestion In Karachi?

As a long-established, significant metropolis in the area, Karachi, Pakistan, has outgrown its transit system due to the city’s recent fast growth. Now that the metro region is home to an estimated 23 million people, the city’s over reliance on vehicles is catching up with it and producing uncomfortable traffic jams and air pollution.

Snap checking by law enforcers causes massive traffic jam in Karachi's downtown area - Pakistan - DAWN.COM
Source: Dawn

Is population the root cause?

The city’s transportation and land use plans have not kept up with the city’s population growth from 450,000 in 1947 to now. Long commutes became the norm as a result of downtown financial and commercial centers and the city’s constant growth. The tremendous influx of population, initially from rural Pakistan and subsequently from India, outpaced efforts to establish new manufacturing facilities outside the city for new immigrants. As a result, residents’ commutes to the city centre for employment continued to dominate transport usage patterns.

Karachi is trying to make significant modifications to its transit system in order to enhance life for locals as a result of a historic transportation crisis that is producing congestion and pollution. The city has invested in how a state-of-the-art bus rapid transit system may help to enhance mobility and provide an alternative to ever-increasing congestion in collaboration with ITDP and the Asian Development Bank. An example of this is the green line metro which has been infamously seen bursting with people inside of it due to its long connectivity and cheap fares.

Milestone': First batch of 40 buses for Green Line project reaches Karachi - Pakistan - DAWN.COM
Source: Dawn

Some Initiatives

A positive move in this direction is the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s proposal to begin a dedicated bus lane for the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS). The 22.4-kilometer track runs from Dawood Chowrangi in Landhi to Numaish Chowrangi in Saddar and cuts travel time in half. According to the BRTS, around 13,000 passengers will be able to utilize it every hour and approximately 200 big buses would operate at intervals of a few minutes on either side of the road’s green belt. A public-private partnership would be used to carry out the project, which will cost two billion rupees.

A “direct service” concept was also recommended to benefit travellers the most. Instead of needing transfer stations at either end to use the dedicated lanes, the system may eliminate transfers and expand its reach outside of the corridor itself by enabling buses to enter and exit the BRT route at any location. Additionally, it provides additional chances for collaboration between the city and private bus companies to enhance city transit. Planners might lessen drivers’ worries about losing customers and income by involving bus operators in plans for Karachi’s future transport system.

For now, the spike in petrol prices has already made public transport more attractive however they do not serve the purpose of providing comfort and convenience to the passengers. While public transportation is praised and is deemed the solution to all traffic clutches in the city, it is important to supervise bus and coaster drivers and have a systematic check and balance system often times they are the ones causing traffic and inconvenience for others by switching lanes, coming on the wrong side of the road or even racing with each other which basically defeats the purpose of this public transportation system.

Also, the new Kung Fu Steamed Bun consumable can restore Health and Energy. Revealed earlier this week, PUBG MOBILE will be bringing Bruce Lee, the international icon, to the Version 2.4 Update in partnership with The Bruce Lee Family Company. Pakistan Still Needs Billions To Completely Recover From Floods

Pakistan has always been at risk of natural disasters. Events such as earthquakes and floods have always been common. But, the monsoon rains of 2022 brought the worst floods that affected around 33 million people. From multiple deaths, landslides, flash floods, and destruction of crops to people being homeless for months, scarcity of food and water and infectious diseases led the government to declare a state emergency.

Pakistan Still Requires Billions Of Funds

Pakistan says it needs billions to recover from the economic and life loss caused by the floods. To add to that, the UN also urges to provide financial aid for the flood relief fund. In numbers, approximately $16 billion is needed after the floods have submerged a third of the country last year, and to better resist the impact of climate change according to the United Nations.

Currently, Pakistan has received financial aid from the government of Malaysia of $200,000 and £10 million of life-saving humanitarian support from the government of the UK. Along with these, many other countries have also helped Pakistan financially.

Syed Haider Shah, the head of Pakistan’s foreign ministry’s UN section, said via video from Islamabad that his nation aimed to finance half of that sum using its own “internal resources.”

The calamities still count up to 1,739 to 2000 deaths, ₨ 3.2 trillion of damage and ₨ 3.3 trillion in economic losses. Flood relief funds provided in the future may help better the overall situation.

Half Of Earth’s Glacier To Melt In The Next 100 Years

As the Earth gets warmer day by day due to increasing global warming, the glaciers are melting at a much faster rate than expected. According to a new scientific study by Journal Science on Thursday, half of the planet’s glaciers will completely melt by the year 2100. However, timely precautions taken can help solve this problem.

Himalayan Glaciers Are On Their Way To Disappearance

The Earth currently has 215,000 glaciers. Unfortunately, half of them might disappear by 2100 and humans may not be ready enough to face the consequences. Continuously rising temperatures are melting glaciers and other frozen water across the Hindu Kush Himalayas which includes the mountain ranges of the Pamirs, the Tien Shan, and the Tibetan Plateau.

What The Consequences May Be

Rapid glacier loss will only result in threatening problems like sea levels rising, shrinking water supplies for a big chunk of the world’s population, risk from flood events, and extinction of natural habitat. On the bright side, slowing down the rate at which the glaciers are melting can lead to prevention.

What’s happening with Influencers in Pakistan? Walee’s Influencer Industry Insights Report breaks it down

2022 was the year in which influencer marketing transformed from a nascent industry to a booming one. The rise of the influencers and the trust several brands invested in them harnessed social media power unlike ever before in Pakistan and Walee is ensuring that this revolution is here to stay.

What is Walee?

It is a platform that has become the leading influencer marketing and social commerce ecosystem in Pakistan. Launched in 2019, the platform has now become a go-to name for the major global and national brands who seek to enhance their social identity. Walee takes pride in assisting, managing and curating over 10,000+ collaborations to date with a 150,000+ influencer community.

Pakistan’s First Industry Influencer Insights Report Which Analyzes Over 7 Million Data Points!

This report is the product of Walee’s AI-powered social listening and insights tools which analyzed millions of data points over the 2021-2022 for 1000+ campaigns & influencers on Instagram.

It identifies the top 10 performers of various categories, brands, industries and campaigns to provide access to insights from the growing creator economy unlike ever before. This is a much-needed step towards formalizing the influencer industry and even empowering the listed influencers to use statistics for marketing or pitching to various advertisers themselves. This new development courtesy of Walee will add structure to the influencer business.

The Industry With The Most Influencer Campaigns

One of the most interesting segments in the report is identifying the industry with the most influencer campaigns as that can give influencers and marketing experts guidance on where their expertise is most needed.

This isn’t surprising considering the majority of influencers, females especially have risen to prominence through lifestyle and fashion.

Fariha Asghar, who goes by the username of @farihaasghar. Fariha’s share of the campaigns was the highest at 12.1%. Mehwish Alam, Chief Business Officer at bSecure noted:

“The power of female influencers is not just about the number of followers they have, it is about the authenticity, engagement and connection they establish with their audience. They seek and trust other women’s opinions more. Since they share more stories on social media, they tend to instill more emotional value to a product or message. They connect with their audience, something far more useful than plain old ads. Brands leverage this storytelling experience, which is a two-way communication process compared to traditional ads.

Here are the other female influencers who made it to the top ten.

These data points and their results are also more fascinating because they can pave the way for influencers to get business based on merit. In the influencer industry, there are several niche names that become prominent only in particular social circles. However, with the help of reports like these, those who stand at the top by genuine standards get to become more prominent.

The Brand With the Highest Campaign Engagement Rate

Another incredible insight that comes through from Walee’s report is The Brand With the Highest Campaign Engagement Rate, drum-roll: SAPPHIRE! In this particular category, Walee analyzes the brand’s average engagement range across the content of all their major campaigns. This category was dominated by a fashion brand and a beauty brand. Sapphire is a leading apparel brand that won this category with an engagement rate of 52.6% while the second close contender was ST London with 47.4% engagement. This was followed by Head & Shoulders at 37.5%, and super closely standing at fourth is L’Oreal Paris at 37.1%.

Sapphire’s place at the top is justified: over the years it has evolved as a family brand unlike any other which can explain the high rates of engagement. Men, women of all ages and the youth all find a point to engage with what the brand has to offer.

Below are the others who made space for themselves with a high engagement in the year. Interestingly, six out of the ten brands stand in the Lifestyle, Fashion & Beauty category – what’s up Pakistan?

All in all, while Walee’s report is comprehensive covering every tiny aspect across the industry, be it engagement rate or the most popular campaigns, these were the most interesting categories whose findings can resonate with a large crowd.

Walee Influencer Industry Insights Report 2021-2022 is publicly available and you can download it from here. How do you think this report can change the influencer industry?
