Something Is Certain

This news was reported by Bloomberg. The article also shared that this move is stemming from a place of insecurity perhaps. YouTube is pursuing podcasts very passionately and this can be interpreted as to its desire to compete with Spotify. This move also comes after a recent incline in Spotify and Amazon’s investments in podcast streaming on their platforms.

Here’s what YouTube has been doing: it has added listening controls for video playback. Moreover, it has hired Kai Chuk as “Podcast lead” in order to refine the listening experience on YouTube. In addition to that, background listening has been made free in certain regions. Keeping all these in mind, the prospect of Google Podcasts merging with YouTube seem strong.

Can This Change Things Up?

These YouTube grants can provide brilliant incentives for podcasters to create more. We might be looking at a surge of content on the platform that will be as wild as anything in order to get the attention of grants. However, many have reported their apprehensions. Google has not commented on this news yet.

The Current Situation

YouTube recently added a new feature to Shorts. This feature allows users to change voiceover for videos within the app which makes the work a tiny bit easier. However, at the moment YouTube creators can only use the music and audio from YouTube’s library and not others. They also have to use third-party video editors to add other audio tracks currently.

What’s The Campaign About?

The campaign is about how a lot of times jokes are used to marginalize women. These jokes about beautiful women not being able to study hard are incredibly discriminatory. In addition to that, the biggest joke of all “oh she’s a beauty with brains” is incredibly problematic.

Why can’t women be both without that being an achievement? The ad shows young school-going girls in their uniforms as they sit and read out these jokes and respond to them.

Watch the video here:

What Are Some Jokes That Should Be Cancelled?

One joke that they tackle is “beautiful girls don’t put in a lot of effort in studying because they know some fool in some corner of the world would be studying to become an engineer or doctor for them.” Not even sure whether this joke is funny in any sense but we’ll grant it that label to appease the haters!

The girls have the most absurd faces in reaction to this joke. They come up with the strongest arguments to shut down this thinking! For instance, women are also studying to become doctors and engineers. One asks, “does this mean I am not beautiful then?”

What Do These Jokes Do?

Jokes are a tricky zone. If we start letting things slide in the name of jokes, we would be playing a passive role in normalizing such problematic concepts. You laugh at something once, twice, and then it’s fair game. When such jokes become the norm, we not only start marginalizing women more but also perpetuate stereotypes.

Zindagi Trust is playing a role in making young girls aware of jokes that are harmful to them. These young girls will be able to grow older realizing the severity of such jokes and stand up for themselves in the face of sexist narratives. Isn’t it the most amazing way to celebrate International Women’s Day?

Brandsynario met with the emerging stars of K.U,  heard their untold stories and accomplishments from their recent trip to Barcelona FC.

Read what they had to say here!

The Rise of Karachi United FC &  Tour to Spain

The football club was formed in 1996 by Talha Alizai and was set up with the mandate of achieving football excellence. Starting off as a group of passionate weekend footballers, a structure slowly grew out of it. In 2003, a Youth Academy was set up and it became a real club. In 2010 the Youth Academy was formed which started to nurture talent. Over the years it now has the objective to provide the best football development opportunities in the country.

The Karachi United Football Club has also set up 10 centers in many inner city areas of Karachi including Mangopir, Lyari, Malir etc. One of the mandates of the club is to develop community through sport. Almost a 1000 children attend free of cost. From these, the most talented are brought into the academy and trained further.

This year 44 children were taken to Barcelona, Spain out of which two are residents of Malir and Lyari. The trip proved to be highly beneficial as it provided exposure to Barcelona coaches and their teaching methods as well as provided an opportunity to play competitive matches with local clubs in Barcelona and their academies. The local team fared pretty well and even won a few games.

Karachi United’s Players in Action!

The squad was invited to tour the hub of international football and visited Spain’s Barcelona football club for a week long period between 13th to 20th February 2017. The team returned after a successful run in the city where they got a chance to play with international Spanish teams and were trained at Camp Nou under Barcelona FC’s professional coaches.

Speaking with KU’s Director Development, Ali Ata, we learned about the club’s journey over the years and how KU is integrating children from various backgrounds.

Watch Ali Ata talk about the club’s journey towards achieving excellence. He talked about the interest in football increasing in Pakistan due to the growing awareness of people in the sport.

” KU started as a bunch of weekend footballers who wanted to play together 20 years ago. Slowly we put a structure around it and I would like to mention Taha Ali Zai in particular who has been instrumental in the continuity of Karachi United ”

The football club in Karachi is working towards women empowerment and changing communities by operating within inner city centers.  They interact and train around 1500 kids from all over Karachi free of charge.

There have also been cases when children from rough neighborhoods have left drugs and gangs, joining the KU centers where they are not only taught football skills free of cost but given life skills and basic education, nurturing them for a better future. This results in an integration of different communities and encourages collaboration amongst the players. Giving talented children an opportunity, this local football is changing and enriching lives too!

What is more, you will be amazed to know how confident the young players of KU are. Football has become an integral part of their lives and they have learned how to balance their passion along with the pressure of studies.

Watch as they share their experience with us in this video.

Abdul Ali Mehta, another top player and performer for Karachi United shared his football journey from playing within Karachi to Barcelona.

The coach and mentor, Khadija Kazmi is an IBA graduate and she has devoted her life to empowering women in football. She believes in creating an equal opportunity for both boys and girls.

The Ladies team has had greater on-field success as compared to their male counterparts, having won many local/national tournaments including recently winning the State Bank Cup.

See what she shared with Brandsyanrio here.

You won’t believe that a cute, 9-year old Eschal W. Shaikh too is a part of KU Junior Under 13 team. She also received training at Camp Nou in Spain. Bubbling with energy, she plans to be a professional football player as she grows up.

Thought-Provoking Session ‘Kaaf Se Kahani’ On Importance Of Urdu At KLF

6th March 2022, KARACHI: Peek Freans Gluco hosted an interactive session ‘Kaaf se Kahani’ at the ongoing Karachi Literature Festival.

Renowned educators and artists including Rumana Hussain, Bilal Maqsood, Beenish Umer, and Peek Freans Gluco’s Senior Brand Manager Hataf Shahab participated in the session, moderated by Sarwat Gillani. The event’s highlights were the warmly engaging and language-appropriate nursery rhymes launched by Peek Frean’s Gluco in collaboration with Bilal Maqsood.

The discussion revolved around the importance of Urdu, its infrequent usage among the younger generation, and how today’s young minds are losing their touch with Urdu.

The guest speakers highlighted the concerns that due to the dearth of good quality Urdu content, young children view content that is not attuned to our social and moral values. Urdu is something that our children should be familiar with in their early childhood days. The panel unanimously agreed that this could only happen when there is content in Urdu that seeks to teach them not just about morals but also in a way that is creative and entertaining to attract them.

The panel discussed how there is a need for a paradigm shift in Urdu curriculum in schools and educational institutions in order to teach children as to how they could express themselves eloquently in Urdu. Sarwat Gillani pointed out the lack of engaging Urdu content for children in the media stating that our children are learning foreign content and words moving away from the basics of Urdu.

Aaminah Saeed, GM Marketing, responded that the Company had taken an initiative to strengthen its relationship with its core consumers i.e., children and parents. She said: “Peek Freans Gluco as a heritage brand realized that there was a dire need of high-quality Urdu content for children in the media. Through our consumer insights, we realized that mothers are eagerly looking for local content that is not just entertaining and engaging for children but also helps them get attuned to Urdu, their own language. Content is a way for children to learn – especially when it comes to developing language skills.  With the mission of nourishing hearts, lives and communities, Peek Freans Gluco has heard these mothers and brought in content that is entertaining for children using Urdu as a medium”.

Bilal Maqsood said: “This was a dream project for me. I partnered with Peek Freans Gluco of EBM to compose, write and sing 8 original Urdu nursery rhymes for children so as to play my part in giving our kids something to hold on to while growing up something that’ll keep them connected to their language and cultural values without losing the element of learning with fun.”

The session ended on the note that various elements of the society will have to work in tandem to keep the balance of Urdu content available for our younger generation to consume, learn and enjoy.

Published in Daily Express. This article is written by Afia Aslam.

Visitors and the online audience will also have the chance to enjoy Urdu and English poetry readings, a qawwali, a feature film screening, and the first-ever airing of a series of short films, Let’s Heal the World.

A total of seven literary awards for Pakistani authors will be announced at the opening ceremony. The prizes will recognize pioneering work in Urdu prose and poetry, and English fiction, which is sponsored by Getz Pharma. This year, KLF is also celebrating the diversity of languages and cultures across the country by recognizing the best books in the Sindhi, Balochi, Punjabi, and Pashto languages. These awards are supported by the Little Book Company.

Speaking at a press conference at Karachi Press Club, OUP Managing Director Arshad Saeed Husain mentioned how the festival will foster an environment of openness, pluralism, and intellectual discourse that will mark a refreshing change from the closures and restrictions of the pandemic.

“Our 13th KLF commemorates not only 75 years of Pakistan but also 70 years of OUP’s operations in Pakistan,” said Husain. “We have been committed to advancing knowledge, learning, and progress in Pakistan since 1952 through our high-quality educational material and digital resources for schools and higher education institutions. We can’t wait to once again demonstrate our love for literature, culture, and the arts in the most vibrant and intimate way possible: a live, in-person festival!”

Previous festivals have seen over 200,000 visitors gather at the venue to meet their favorite authors, poets, performers, and scholars. Organizers of the festival emphasized that all Covid-19 SOPs would be followed and only vaccinated members of the public would be allowed at the venue.

The festival’s organizers expressed their deep appreciation for this year’s title sponsor, Bank of Punjab. They also recognized the support extended by Getz Pharma, English Biscuit Manufacturers, the British Deputy High Commission, the British Council, the French Embassy, Lincoln’s Corner, Bank Alfalah, NBP Funds, UBL Funds, United Bank Limited, Dawlance, Tehzeeb Foundation, the Institute of Business Administration, Tapal and SMS Security.

This latest news was revealed on their Facebook page. The post showed an image of a new Honda City atop a fancy car carrier being delivered to your home. However, here’s the catch: Honda has added that they will charge Rs. 29,900 for this service which is not bad at all.

Honda added that with this service, “the joy of owning a Honda just got bigger.” Honda takes pride in becoming the first company to come up with this unique and customizable vehicle delivery service for its customers. All you have to do (and that’s the hardest part) is purchase a Honda and then let them handle it.

HACPL has not provided further details on this yet. Is this available in other cities or only in particular showrooms in Lahore? The details are yet to be cleared. However, it would be interesting to see whether this becomes a trend in Lahore or not. Those who have enough to purchase a Honda will also be willing to take out 30K more just for the experience.
